Scrapbook 2021 | Part II

For anyone that’s new to this, this is how I keep track of all of the things I enjoy and/or create throughout the year. I have literally been doing this since I had a livejournal. I think the first one was 2011? Maybe? In which case, woohoo, ten years of scrapbooking!

It’s a nice little snippet of my life and helps to organize my brain.

A reminder:

Goals are: read 80 books (as of today, i am at 31 books, which sounds not great but goodreads assures me that it’s only 1 book behind schedule), finish five video games (at two at the moment... mostly because I keep dragging my feet on actually finishing P5R), write more than 20 fics (at... 6) or something larger than 20k (negative), and write either an original short story or start a novel (i have started plotting for the novel? does that count?)

The Samsung Tab S5e is the brand's latest attempt to break the budget of the Android tablet market. Compared to the new Samsung Galaxy S10, this may not sound so cool, but if you look closely at the Tab S5e, you will find it to be one of Samsung's most attractive versions to date.

The new Galaxy Tab S5e is side-by-side with Samsung's older Galaxy Tab S4 and shares many of our favorite features with its predecessor. There is a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display, Atmos audio and AKG tuning speakers. Like the Tab S4, the Tab S5e features an elongated frame on the display and corners. In appearance, it doesn't look very similar to the iPad Pro (2018).

I spent a lot of time using the Tab S5e at the Galaxy S10 conference, and I have to say that I was very impressed. Considering the rather mundane Android tablet in recent years, it feels like a fresh air.

The star is comfortable with a 10.5-inch AMOLED display. With a resolution of 1600 x 2560, it looks amazing. The color flows with charm, black is ink, it can become very bright. I watched a few demo videos and played some Asphalt 9 and I was completely immersed in it.

The lack of a thick bezel also gives the impression that you are just holding a large display.

The next thing you will notice after the screen quality is its lightness. It is only 5.5 mm thick and can be comfortably held with just one hand without any problems. The dark grey color scheme looks smooth too, although it is a white model that I have not seen. After years of quite boring mid-range tablets, this is the right direction for Samsung.

On the side is a capacitive fingerprint sensor and a fairly large 7040 mAh battery that can be squeezed by USB-C and Samsung's fast charging technology.

The problem with Android tablets has always been software. Too few apps support larger layouts, and the extended mobile app you left looks good and junk. Samsung itself can't solve this problem, although it has made some clever software adjustments here.

DeX mode gives you a PC-like desktop view with a window application and a taskbar at the bottom for fast multitasking. I like this view when I look at Tab S4, so I am very happy that it can be found here. You can also attach a folio keyboard, which will be a boon for anyone looking for a laptop replacement.

I only spent a while using a tablet, but it still feels fast and smooth navigation. Of course we have to spend more time to really judge how it handles everyday use.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e looks great, has an excellent display, and is inexpensive. Samsung may eventually create an Android tablet worth buying.

Flashback E.1

In the first installment of Flashback I am taking a look at the Samsung Galaxy S4 5 years after it’s initial release. First I will note that I am running a custom OS (Lineage OS 14.1/AOSP Nougat equivalent)

Pros:

Updated features and settings make this device worthwhile to own and easy to handle. Be warned though if you choose to use a nightly version of this OS you will see bugs. Overall this is the best operating system that has been on this phone since premiere with in-depth customization and the ability to use up-to-date apps and games.

Cons:

I run the Nightly OS so I do see bugs mainly with the calling feature, e.g. i have to make sure my headphones are unplugged before making a call or else the other person will not hear me. Other than that the biggest problem is camera quality but then again, this phone is five years old.

This phone has experienced wear and very noticeably because the plastic casing is experiencing weathering.

I do love the removable battery. I personally keep 3 extra batteries charged and ready so when I’m out and my phone dies I can simply pop it out and put the next one in.

Overall the Galaxy S4 is a choice contender in today’s low-cost market and is my choice for cell phones in general because of its many uses and functions.

If it is required more often than that you have bigger problems at hand. Put plainly: fully discharging a battery is bad for it. Trying to overload a battery is also bad for it. The good news is that charging batteries automatically shut off when their safe limit is reached and there’s always a little in reserve even if your Samsung S4 won’t start. But again: do this only when really necessary, because it does have a negative impact on battery life.

(Important) Without leaving the Command screen, press the Menu key, the button that’s found left of the Home button.

Select Key input and enter option 2 which will turn your FTM OFF

Wait for a minute. Remove your battery and SIM card for two minutes, place your battery in your phone back but not the SIM card. Turn on the device then.

When the phone is booted, enter the command mode again dial – *#197328640#

Select the Debug Screen, normally option 1

After that, choice phone control, option eight

I found this solution by working around with my Samsung galaxy phone. Please follow this method precisely, and if it doesn’t work at the first attempt, try doing it again.

Turn off your phone by holding the Power Button and the Home in conjunction.

While the phone is off, wait for 2 minutes.

After 2 minutes, remove the battery and the SIM card from the phone

Press the Power button and the home button together for 10 consecutive times.

Afterwards, hold the power and home keys for 1-3 minutes.

Next, insert your SIM card and the battery

Turn on your Samsung galaxy.

While your phone is on, remove your SIM card, and then re-insert it. Repeat this five times.(On some android phones you need to remove the battery before you can take out the sim card. If this is this issue, please skip this step)

A message will appear saying that you need to “Restart your Phone”- click it.

Finally, your Samsung galaxy should boot up with no errors.

Assuming you’ve checked that they’re turned on in Settings > My device > Smart screen. You should also make sure that the lighting is sufficiently bright for your S4 to see you. The phone has to be able to see your face using the front-facing camera. If you’re obscuring that camera, or the environment is too dark, then it simply won’t work.

In this article, we’ll round up the most commonly reported HTC One problems and try to offer up some solutions for anyone suffering from this beautiful phone’s known issues.

Glitch: Background noise or static

A number of people have been complaining about a buzzing sound or background static. The problem is most common through the speakers, but can be heard when using headphones as well. Some people report hissing through the headphones when listening to music, especially noticeable during gaps in the audio. Others are reporting popping sounds from the speakers, most noticeably after notifications come in. There is also hissing for some during voice calls, and stuttering during audio playback.

It’s not clear whether this is a hardware or software issue. Some people have returned their handsets for replacements and report the exact same problem occurring on the new one as well.
