I often wonder what the world would look like if pressing local or state level issues people claim to care about generated the same kind of action and enthusiasm that massive national news stories with complicated power mapping do. Idk even when I'm 100% with the people who are up in arms. Like what if just as many people in MA had turned out for the ROE act as turned out to protest the overturn of Roe after the fact? What if the rent control actions were as well attended as the ceasefire actions? I have had many instances where I am trying to get progressive people who regularly go to big demonstrations to show up for something state level they have said they care about and they just won't. And what I'm left with after that is the conclusion that where their interests actually are is feeling like a part of something big and heady rather than accomplishing a concrete goal and that's. Demoralizing.

Wait, seriously, can someone please write a Modern HTTYD AU like this? These ideas are great, I absolutely love stuff like this. I love the whole “fictional creatures in real life” idea and thinking about how it would affect the real world. It’s also why I love the “Pokémon in real life” ideas that people come up with.

YES.

That's why I frankly dislike most modern AUs I see. The AU always remove half/most of what makes the series really interesting: the critters!

Hiccup and the gang living in an average modern world doing average things with average animals takes away everything that made the series unique and it just feels like it's another group of friends. Like, I could look anywhere (literally, anywhere even irl) and see that. Modern society is boring to me because I live in it. I see it every day. I am apart of it.

Give us a Modern AU that has that spark of magic we all know we want. Gives us a night fury that gets to play with a modern lazar pointer or flies his rider to his part-time coffeeshop job, chews his expensive textbooks, and gets spooked by cars. Show us nadders that try to roost on telephone wires or gets excited when their riders show them Tik Tok videos of other nadders. Show us gronkles that block up traffic because they wanna eat the road pavement, or confuse cars with food. Show us zipplebacks that lights BBQ grills or have to be chased away from construction sites working on gaslines. Show us monsterous nightmares that play at the park and keep firefighters on their toes.

Show us OUR world but without the magic sucked out because 'Modern' doesn't have to mean lifeless. I want less Modern AU Cat!Toothless and more Modern AU Toothless and Hiccup meet the others at Starbucks to discuss why Tuff and Ruff won't stop posting to their Facebook all of their dangerous stuff with their dragon.

HOW DID FAK GET INTO THE WALK-IN?

Season 2 episode 8 Bolognese

Sydney tries to get into the walk-in (for whatever reason)

The handle breaks off in her hand.

She calls to Neil Fak to fix it.

He says he is trying to fix the gasline (he clearly just came from trying to do that but he said he couldn't fix the door handle)

Syd goes to talk to Marcus

Richie talks to Nat

Fak comes in while Richie is talking to Nat. He's covered in dirt. Says he's been fixing the gasline. Now mind you when he was working on it before he wasn't dirty at all. So who knows WHAT he was really doing.

Later CARMY goes into the walk-in (we know why), but FAK is ALREADY THERE.

Obviously Fak knows how to fix the handle, how to get in and out even if the handle is broken.

Remember this because in episode 10 his brother's PARM FOR CARM ends up in the fridge and soon after it's broken again

Let's keep a big eye on Fak and friends please

(also remember, if it's all in one person's mind. A person who is an addict, he is just sabotaging himself. But for the sake of the show and these characters we gotta show who is doing what)
