FicTober: Day 9
Prompt #9: "I wouldn't do that if I were you." Original Fiction: Broken Mirrors Series Rating: T Warnings: Implied abuse
Characters: Gilbert Lehmann, Alice Sweeney, Firmino Amello Ships: N/A
Gilbert eyed the new boy from across the room, he could tell that he didn’t want to be here. He knew the other kingdoms didn’t have the same tie to their royals as the Sweeney and Lehmann of Ephariel did, but he honestly didn’t understand it until he started following Alice to the other kingdoms on her trips to royal gatherings. He couldn’t believe that some of the other royal families treated their servant clans as expendable toys to be used, abused and tossed away. His fists clenched when he recalled the look on Alice’s face when the boy was ‘gifted’ to her in the cage that still sat in the room with him. The boy hadn’t said much outside of telling Alice and him to stay away from him, and honestly, it was getting on his nerves. He hated watching how upset Alice looked every time she tried to help the boy only to receive an insult thrown at her.
His eyes widened when he watched the boy try to swing at Alice, “Hey, I wouldn’t do that if I were you! She might be nice, but I’m not! You hurt her and I’ll break your arm!”
Gilbert kept his eyes on the boy but crossed his arms when Alice waved him off, “Gil, relax. He’s new and scared. I don’t know what they did to him in Atadell, but he’s entitled to not trust me and see me as a new enemy. If it’ll make him less scared to be able to take a swing, so be it.”
“I’m your guard, I’m not going to le-”
Alice rolled her eyes, walking by him, “Gilbert, I’m not asking. Now, I’m going to see what I can grab from the kitchen, keep him company.”
Before Alice slipped out the door, she quickly shot him a glare, “And be nice, or else we won’t have our weekly sleepover!”
A snort caught his attention as the boy finally glared at him, “What are you, her dog?”
Gilbert returned his glare, puffing out his chest, “No, I’m her best friend! And her personal guard! I’ll be head of the royal guard one day!”
He frowned as the boy rolled his eyes, “So you’re a glorified show pony until she gets bored of you.”
“Don’t talk about her like that! I don’t know what your problem is! She’s done nothing but be nice to you!”
Gilbert felt his anger rise when the boy waved him off, “She’s a royal, no different than any other. She’ll brand me and then I’ll be just another toy until I’m not useful anymore. You’re not special because you’re higher on the pecking order of servants here.”
“I choose to serve her! It’s the highest honour in my family to be the personal guard to the heirs of the Sweeney Clan! Even before they became the rulers of Ephariel!”
The boy scoffed again, “So you’re from a long line of pets.”
That was the last thing Gilbert needed to hear before he lunged at the boy, only to be pulled by the back of his shirt.
“Gilbert! I said be nice! Go stand outside while I get him settled into his room!”
Gilbert gave Alice a pleading look, he hated disappointing her, but turned a quick glare at the new boy, only stopping when Alice gently pushed him out of the room.

FicTober: Day 2
Prompt #2: "Don't worry, I got you." Original Fiction: Broken Mirrors Series Rating:  T Warnings: Implied suicide attempt
Characters:  Alice Sweeney, Kazimir Barkov, Gilbert Lehmann Ships: N/A
“Hey! Are you alright?!”
Kazimir startled awake as he felt soft hands shake his shoulders, he quickly leaned away from them, reaching his own shaky arm to shove the hands off of him.
“Oh, hey, it’s ok. You’re badly hurt, are you able to walk?”
He quickly pulled himself back away from the calm voice, “What do you want?”
His vision was gone, when he tried to open his eyes nothing changed in the darkness before him.
“My name is Alice, can you stand? I want to help. My home is close, I can get you healed up.”
He didn’t want her help, “I don’t need help.”
He stood on shaky legs before starting to fall only to feel the girl under his arm as she supported him, “Don’t worry, I got you. Let’s get you healed.”
He tried to pull away from her, but quickly found he couldn’t in his weakened state as her grip tightened, “Why are you helping me?”
He relented, stumbling along without fighting her as he felt her pull him along, “Well, I saw you when I was passing by and you looked like you needed a hand.”
“I didn’t want help. I wanted to be left.”
He felt her stiffen under him, “Then you need more than a hand.”
He followed her lead until he began to smell lavender and bread, “Where are we?”
“Sweeney castle, I’m bringing you through the kitchen. I don’t want my parents to think there’s a battle or something, plus I snuck out while Gil was polishing his sword so I don’t want to run into him yet. He always gets mad when I sneak out.”
He lifted his head toward her, “Sweeney castle? Sneaking out? Wait, you can’t b-”
He felt her giggle before he heard it, “Princess Alice, yes. Now let’s get you to Kikuma, he can get you bandaged up.”
Kazimir couldn’t help the confusion filling him, “What do you gain from helping me?”
He felt her small frame shrug, “Well, I wasn’t really thinking about that… But I guess I gain a new friend.”
“Alice! There you are! Wait why are you covered in blood?! Who is that?!”
Kazimir flinched at the sudden loud voice booming in front of them.
“Relax Gil. I don’t know his name yet, and the blood is his. He was injured by the castle and I wanted to get him help.”
Kazimir felt her grip on him tighten, likely trying to tell him to go along with her omission of how she found him.
“Kazimir. My name is Kazimir.”
He could feel the smile in her voice, “Well Gil, this is Kazimir! Now, help me get him into my room before one of your brothers sees us and runs to tell Dad. Oh, and then I need you to get Kikuma.”
Kazimir listened to the long sigh from Gilbert before he felt his other arm get lifted over strong shoulders.
“Fine, but if we get caught, you owe me a new sword.”

FicTober: Day 7
Prompt #7: "Do you recognise this?" Original Fiction: Broken Mirrors Series Rating: G Warnings: N/A
Characters:  Alice Sweeney, Roderich Klein, Gilbert Lehmann, Baltasar Klein Ships: N/A
Alice smiled brightly as she and Gilbert buzzed with excitement, they had been planning this surprise for months.
“Do you think he’ll like it? He’s been really upset since the divorce…”
“Alice, he’ll love it. I promise. I think it's just what he needs.”
Alice straightened her back, leaning up from polishing the ivory keys, “I hope so. He’s been avoiding everyone since he kicked her out.”
Gilbert smiled, pulling the black cloth over the piano to hide it, “He’s probably embarrassed about the situation. He loved her and trusted her, he didn’t even believe me when I told him about her. I’m sure he just doesn’t want an I told you so.”
The two jumped slightly as Baltasar excitedly dragged Roderich into the room, “Come on Dad!”
“Balt, relax. Why are we rushing? It’s-”
Roderich stilled when he noticed the two standing in his living room, “Alice? Gilbert? What are you two doing in my house?”
Alice smiled sheepishly, “Well, we’re here to surprise you.”
“We were worried, Rod. You’ve been avoiding everyone and even your kid was getting worried about you. He helped us plan a little surprise for you to force you to come to the annual get-together.”
Roderich huffed in annoyance, “And if I refuse?”
Alice smiled, quickly pulling the cloth off of the piano, “Then this will go to waste!”
Gilbert smirked as he watched Roderich’s wide eyes take in the piano beside them, “Do you recognise this, Roddy?”
Roderich hesitantly approached the large piano, “I…I can’t believe it. Where did you even get this?”
Alice gently placed her hand on his arm, “I saved it from the castle. Gilbert’s been working on fixing it up for years, and we finally got it working right again.”
Gilbert smiled proudly as he pointed to the keys, “The keys are from the old one, everything else I had to hand carve to match the burnt one.”
“You remade it?”
Gilbert nodded, “Yeah, you said it was your father’s. I couldn’t leave it to rot with the rest of the castle.”
Alice stifled her giggle as Roderich suddenly hugged Gilbert tightly.
“Dad, could you teach me how to play it?”
The three turned to the small boy who eyed the piano with awe, they had forgotten about the boy while they were caught up in the moment.
Roderich quickly wiped his eyes from the brimming tears, “Of course, I’ll show you just like my father taught me.”
Alice and Gilbert couldn’t hide their smiles as Roderich quickly sat beside his son and began to explain the different piano keys. He would recover from leaving his wife and so would his son.

Song Fic: Sleeping Alone
Song: Sleeping Alone by Dixon Dallas Characters: Kurt Lehmann, Gilbert Lehmann, Jorg Lehmann, Killian Lehmann, Lukkas Holt, Arthur Mitchell, Alice Sweeney Ship: Kurt x Lukkas, Lukkas x Arthur
Kurt sighed as he watched Arthur and Lukkas dancing around the ballroom together. He tried to keep the sting in his chest from showing on his face. He wouldn’t admit it out loud, but he missed him.
“So you really did break up?”
Kurt flinched, “Yes Gil, we broke up. Well, he broke up with me.”
Gilbert glanced up at him, “So you let him go? Doesn’t it hurt to see him with someone else?”
“Of course it hurts! But Lukkas doesn’t love me anymore! He left, I can’t keep him from leaving, idiot.”
Gilbert shrugged, looking back to the dancefloor, “Did you chase him away again?”
Kurt turned to glare at his younger brother, “Chase him away? What are you talking about?!”
“Killian says you push people away, especially when you love them. He said that’s why you yell at us so much. So, if you loved Lukkas, you’d push him away too. Killian says it’s what people do when they’re scared of getting their heart hurt. He said it’s because you miss Ma.”
Kurt turned away from Gilbert to shoot a glare across the room at their older brother, crossing his arms, “Killian needs to keep his mouth shut. Just because he’s the oldest doesn’t mean he knows everything!”
Gilbert gently kicked his foot on the floor, “Do you still love him?”
“Yes.”
Kurt’s wide eyes met Gilbert’s, he hadn’t meant to answer, especially not so fast.
“Maybe you should talk to him? Alice says that if you talk to someone they’ll give you a second chance.”
Kurt rolled his eyes at his brother’s naivety, “Alice is a royal, Gil. Her world is different from ours. You need to remember that.”
“Ignore him, Gil, Kurt messed up too many times and didn’t think little Luka would actually leave him. When you push someone away too many times, they take the message even though you want them to stay.”
“Jorg, shouldn’t you be minding your own business?”
Jorg stood beside his younger brothers, “Shouldn’t you be guarding the ballroom instead of filling Gil with your cynical view of the world?”
Gilbert chuckled as Kurt received a quick scold from their older brother.
“I’m allowed to be upset.”
Jorg sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder, “No one said you can’t I’m just saying that you did this to yourself. You pushed the kid away and expected him to keep coming back. That doesn’t mean you can make Gil feel bad for suggesting talking to him to work things out. He’s younger and hasn’t been through a relationship, let alone a break-up. He just sees you sad and wants to throw out ideas to make his brother feel better. Don’t bark at us, pushing us away will be worse than pushing him away.”
Kurt huffed, marching away from the two and returning to his post outside the entrance to the ballroom. He didn’t need to be analysed by his brothers. He knew he messed up, he pushed Lukkas away too many times. He wasn’t an idiot. He couldn’t give Lukkas what he wanted and needed out of their relationship, and Lukkas couldn’t give him what he needed either. He just wasn’t ready to see him happy with someone else. He needed time to mourn what they had, what he fought so hard to change for. He was glad that Lukkas looked happy, but that didn’t make the pain hurt any less. Eventually, he could be truly happy for him, they were friends before they dated… He just needed time, and his brothers’ didn’t get it.

Song Fic: How do I get there?
Song: How do I get there? by Deana Carter Characters: Alice Sweeney, Gilbert Lehmann Ship: Gilbert/Alice
If you asked him, Gilbert would deny everything, there was no way he had a crush on his best friend. He didn’t smile like a dork when she praised his strength or when she called him amazing, even if his older brothers insisted he did. They didn’t know anything anyway. She was his best friend, or course he’d smile when she complimented him!
“Hey Gil, will you help me with my hair? It keeps getting caught on the flowers.”
Gilbert nodded, “Sure, come sit here and I’ll pick them out.”
A small pout formed across his face, ok, maybe he liked her a little bit more than a friend. He gently began to run his pale hands through her thick hair, meticulously picking the small lavender buds out of it.
“Why don’t you have your mother put your hair up before coming to the field?”
Alice leaned her head back to smiled up at him, “Because I like when you pick out the flowers!”
Gilbert scoffed as his cheeks began to burn, “Well it’s not very princess like to let your hair pick up stray flowers.”
Maybe he liked her more than a little more than friends. Gilbert wouldn’t tell anyone though, especially not his dumb brothers, they’d never let him live it down.
He watched her cross her arms, “And it’s not very Gilbert like to be gentle and take them out, but look where we are.”
Gilbert chuckled at her, “Ok, ok, I get it. We can keep it between us.”
Alice laughed, “Of course, this is our special time, I don’t want to share it with anyone else.”
Gilbert rubbed his face with his free hand, ok, maybe he was in love with her, but she didn’t help his situation! She always said things like that and would happily swing her feet and rush off for them to play tag in the courtyard. She didn’t care that she shouldn’t say those things, she meant them, but he was her guard and best friend so it was normal for her.
“Alice, I…”
Maybe he could tell her, just once, “I love you.”
Alice smiled up at him again, “I love you too, Gil, I always will.”
Gilbert’s cheeks began to flush as he opened his mouth to ask her a follow up question, but closed it as she shoved his shoulder and rushed off.
“Tag! You’re it!”
Gilbert blinked, “Hey! No fair!”
He quickly rushed after here, annoyed that she’d start their game of tag when he was trying to open up to her. He couldn’t really blame her though, he was itching to move too. Maybe he’d try again when they were older, like when he’s 8.

Song Fic: Happy
Song:  Happy by Saving Jane Characters:  Gilbert Lehmann, Klaus Lehmann, Maylin Fuentes, Amelia Wilson, Victor Wilson Ship: Klaus x Maylin, Maylin x Amelia
Klaus laid on the ground, relaxing against the dirt, where he belonged. His eyes stung from the tears he was fighting back, forcing them shut. His chest burned with each breath he took.
“You overheard us, huh?”
Klaus flinched, he hadn’t realised his brother noticed him rush out of the house.
“You don’t have to talk to me, just listen, ok?”
Klaus grunted at his brother, he honestly wanted to be alone to wallow in his feelings.
“Victor was visiting to celebrate his sister getting married. Amelia and Maylin as getting married.”
He didn’t need it spelt out for him, he knew which sister Victor was talking about and he knew she was dating Maylin. He wasn’t an idiot.
“I know you have feelings for Maylin…”
His eyes sprung open in surprise as he glared at his brother, he shouldn’t know that. He hadn’t told anyone.
Gilbert chuckled, “I’m not an idiot Klaus, I know when my little brother is eyeing his friend.”
“It was that obvious?”
To his annoyance, Gilbert nodded, “Of course it is. You are not a very subtle person. You don’t go out of your way to bake dad’s famous chocolate cake for just anyone.”
“What do you want then?”
Gilbert shrugged, sitting on the ground beside him, “Maylin is going to invite you, she wants you to be her best man along with her brother.”
“So you wanted to warn me?”
Gilbert shook his head, “No, I think you’ll go and smile and support her the whole time. I just want you to know that I know how bad it’s going to hurt, and I’m proud of you for knowing you need to let her go.”
Klaus glanced up at his brother, watching him pull his knees up, “How do you know? I could storm over to Maylin and tell her my feelings.”
“Because, you know she makes her happy. You want to see Maylin happy, with or without you. You’re her best friend, and you won’t risk losing her friendship or making her feel bad for not sharing your feelings.”
“Is that how you feel about Alice?”
Gilbert’s glare told him his answer, “We’re talking about you here kid, not me. Don’t push it.”
Klaus finally let out a small laugh, “Is this a family thing?”
Gilbert’s laugh joined his own, “I don’t think dad had that hard of a time, he was married twice.”
Klaus smiled softly as he leaned back into the ground, his brother was right. He wants to be happy for Maylin, and he will, he just needs time.

Song Fic: Speak Now
Song: Speak Now by Taylor Swift Characters: Alice Sweeney, Gilbert Lehmann, Roderich Klein, Lizzy Lupei Ship: Roderich/Lizzy, Lizzy/Gilbert, Alice/Gilbert
His throat clenched as he watched her step out from around the corner in her beautiful white gown. His fists clenched against his sides, he needed to keep his composure. He couldn’t let anyone know how bad this was killing him, he was supposed to be happy for his brother. He was given the honor of standing with Klaus, Bach, Leonardo and Sebastian for Roderich. It was his duty to smile and keep the mood light. Who would be selfish enough to ruin their brother’s wedding, so what if he was in love with his bride, it wasn’t his right to ruin their event. So what if she had been in his home days ago, in his bed, telling him how they’d be together forever? He bit the inside of his cheek to fight the forming tears, had he known she was his brother’s fiancé, it never would have happened. He betrayed his own brother, but his heart ached to say something. He needed to know why, why she lead him on, why she lied to him, why she was choosing his brother over him?
“Gil, are you ok?”
Gilbert blinked, he hadn’t realised they ceremony was over. Everyone was celebrating, moving to join the new couple in the ballroom. Everyone except him, and Alice.
“Gilbert, what’s wrong?”
His red eye glanced down at her worried gaze, he wasn’t sure what to say. He hadn’t spoken to Alice since she left his home.
“I… Yeah, I’m fine.”
Alice frowned, she could always see through him, “Gil, what’s going on? You haven’t been acting like yourself at all today.”
He wanted to point out that she was the only one who noticed besides Klaus, “I’m fine.”
She crossed her arms over her red dress, “Gilbert, I’m not going to force it out of you and make a scene at Roderich’s wedding, but I don’t appreciate the secrecy lately. Just because we aren’t on good terms right now, doesn’t mean that I suddenly don’t care how you’re doing.”
Gilbert sighed, she wasn’t going to drop it, “The girl I was seeing… It was her.”
He watched her eyes glance behind them toward the closed doors before turning to him with wide eyes. He quickly placed a hand over her lips.
“I sware I didn’t know she was dating Roderich or his fiance or anything until yesterday! You know he and I haven’t been talking for a few years. I knew he had someone and was getting married, but I had no idea who she was until I ran into her yesterday. I swear.”
Alice sighed, pulling him into a hug, “I’m sorry, Gilbert.”
Gilbert’s arms wrapped around her automatically, and he finally let the tears start to fall. She wasn’t accusing him, she wasn’t mad, she offered him comfort, even after their fight.
“You should tell Roderich, he deserves to know the kind of woman he married.”
Gilbert squeezed his eye shut, “He’ll hate me.”
Alice sighed, “Ok, when you’re ready.”
He nodded into her shoulder, she was right, she seemed to always be nowadays. He’d tell him, tomorrow. He didn’t want to ruin his brother’s celebration.

Song Fic: Great Escape
Song: Great Escape Characters: Alice Sweeney, Lovino Bellincioni, Gilbert Lehmann Ship: Lovino x Alice
“Why not just run away?”
Alice’s amber eyes widened as she turned to face her best friend, “What?”
Lovino laid on the grass beside her, lazily opening his dark blue eyes to meet her gaze, “I said, why not just run away?”
Alice’s eyes rolled as she leaned her head against her knees, “I was being serious when sharing how stressed I am with this war, Lovi. You don’t need to make light of this just because your kingdom has remained neutral.”
Lovino’s arms flailed in annoyance, “So because you don’t like my idea, I’m making fun of you? Come on Alice, you know I wouldn’t take anything like this lightly!”
“Oh come on, like running away was a real idea.”
Lovino groaned, sitting up, “Look, I meant it. Why couldn’t we just run away? Me and you, out in the wilderness, maybe a whole new world if you figure out that old dimension gate way spell.”
Alice glanced at him, “You can’t be serious Lovi.”
“Think about it! I could ride in at night, sneak in. We can meet up in the lavender field! You can sneak past your guards, and zoom! We’re in the sky, flying to a new realm, or the woodland far away from all this! No more war, no more arranged marriages, no more expectations! Just us, maybe a dragon, and the world to explore at our own pace.”
Alice smiled softly at Lovino as he reached for her hand, “Lovino…”
Lovino stood, gently pulling Alice up with him, “Come on Alice, just say the word and we go.”
“Lovino.”
His grip on her hands tightened, “Please Alice, lets just leave this all behind us! What do you have to lose? Hannah and Sam are not going to stop until your kingdom is theirs, so if we just run away they can’t complain!”
Alice’s hands tightened around his, she couldn’t meet his eyes when he was begging her so earnestly. Part of her wanted nothing more than to run away with him, but she couldn’t. She was the queen now. It was her job to die with her people if they couldn’t defeat their enemies.
“Lovi, I can’t. I want to, but I can’t. I just can’t.
Lovino roughly pulled his hands away as he shouted, “You can! If you want to, then you can! Why can’t we just be happy?! Why stay here and be miserable?!”
Alice took a slow step back, “I can’t leave my people. I can’t leave Jason or Gil or Firmi…You know I can’t.”
Lovino huffed, turning away from her, “You don’t want to.”
Alice’s hand reached for him, almost touching his arm before falling to her side, “Lovino, please.”
Her eyes stung as she watched him walk away from her. She couldn’t leave her kingdom, why couldn’t he understand! He was a king too! He should know that they couldn’t just up and leave!
“...Alice?”
She didn’t know when Gilbert arrived, but she didn’t care. He was warm, and his hug was exactly what she needed to fall into after her fight with Lovino. Could she even call it a fight?
“Let’s get you back to the castle. Kazimir and Firmino are worried sick. You can’t keep sneaking off like this. Not now.”
She numbly allowed him to guide her back, refusing to remove herself from under his arm. He didn’t try to pull his arm back either. She knew he’d let her lean on him as long as she needed. She couldn’t leave them, even if it meant her and Lovino would be at odds.

Song Fic: I Write Sins Not Tragedies
Song: I Write Sins Not Tragedies Characters: Alice Sweeney, Firmino Amello, Gilbert Lehmann, Erin Mitchell, Antonio Castellano Ship: Isabella x Firmino
“Can you stop?”
Gilbert rolled his eyes, “Look, just because you don’t want to hear this, doesn’t mean it isn’t true.”
Firmino glared at Gilbert, “Can you just leave me alone?!”
Gilbert leaned against the sofa, “Firmino, I know this is tough to hear but just hear us out.”
Firmino stormed past Gilbert, “I’m not going to listen to your lies!”
“Mino, I’m not lying. I wouldn’t say she did something like this just for fun! Do you think I want to hurt you?”
“Just shut up Antonio! You, Gilbert and Erin can get out of my house!”
“Hey, watch it, I haven’t even said anything yet!”
Firmino rolled his eyes, “Then why are you here?”
Erin sighed, “I’m just here to make sure Antonio and Gilbert don’t get into trouble, Alice would be pissed if anyone started trouble right now.”
“So you’re here because Alice made you come?”
Erin’s eyes rolled, “She’s worried about you, just like those two are. She’s giving you the space you asked for, but not everyone will respect your request.”
His eyes met Firmino’s, “I’m here to warn you that your bridge with her is burning because of all this, and you run the risk of exile over being a toy for Isabella. Alice asked that I make sure those two don’t take their worry too far, but I came to warn you. They’re already starting to talk about revoking your rights to the suitcase.”
Firmino’s eyes narrowed, “Then she can do that! If she’s so mad about me being happy, then so what?! I don’t want to be stuck here with everyone anyway!”
Erin’s eyes widened as Gilbert suddenly shot forward, pinning Firmino to the wall in front of them by his neck.
“Gilbert! Let him go!”
Gilbert glared at Firmino, “If that’s really how you feel, then don’t you dare come back when you find out we were right. If you come crawling back, I will make sure it’s the last thing you do.”
Firmino gasped as Gilbert let him go, allowing a rush of air to fill his lungs again.
Erin grabbed Gilbert’s arm, “It’s time for us to go. You shouldn’t have done that, Gilbert.”
Gilbert huffed, shaking Erin off of his arm before storming out the door. Erin sighed, shaking his head before rushing after him.
Antonio frowned, “Mino, Isabella is using you to get to me and Alice. We heard her say it. You don’t have to listen to me, but I just… I don’t want you to get hurt. You deserve better.”
Firmino watched him walk away, following Erin. He didn’t need any of them anyway.
