Release: July 26, 1996
Lyrics:
He was working through college
On my grandpa's farm
I was thirsting for knowledge
And he had a car
Yeah, I was caught somewhere between a woman and a child
One restless summer we found love growing wild
On the banks of the river on a well beaten path
It's funny how those memories they last
Like strawberry wine and seventeen
The hot July moon saw everything
My first taste of love, oh bittersweet
Green on the vine
Like strawberry wine
I still remember
When thirty was old
And my biggest fear was September
when he had to go
A few cards and letters and one long distance call
We drifted away like the leaves in the fall
But year after year I come back to this place
Just to remember the taste
Of strawberry wine and seventeen
The hot July moon saw everything
My first taste of love, whoa-oh, bittersweet
Green on the vine
Like strawberry wine
Yeah
The fields have grown over now
Years since they've seen the plow
There's nothing time hasn't touched
Is it really him or the loss of my innocence?
I've been missing so much
Strawberry wine and seventeen
The hot July moon saw everything
My first taste of love, whoa-oh bittersweet
And green on the vine
Like strawberry wine and seventeen
The hot July moon saw everything
My first taste of love, oh, bittersweet
And green on the vine
Like strawberry wine

Does anyone know a very specific aesthetic that's kinda like what shows like Dawson's Creek and Deana Carter's "Strawberry Wine" music video had? Like what do you call this? Is there a specific name for it? The vibe is very mid to late 90s, or very early '00s. It's a very cozy, warm vibe. It's like afternoon spring/summer sunshine peeking through a screen door. The sound of a mourning dove as you wake up on a Saturday morning. A house filled with wood furniture and the only phones are landlines and/or rotary. The Internet is still dial-up. You still make most of your social connections in person. You smell like old school Bath and Body Works like Cucumber Melon or Juniper Breeze or Country Apple. A childhood friend who gradually becomes to mean so much more. The newness of a first love, first kiss, first everything. Your parents are still relatively young and it hasn't really dawned on you yet that they won't be around forever. Time seems to stand still. You think things will always be the same. You can't wait to grow up but it also completely terrifies you.
Maybe it's not an "aesthetic " but just plain nostalgia for my childhood/teen years. 😭

Song Fic: How do I get there?
Song: How do I get there? by Deana Carter Characters: Alice Sweeney, Gilbert Lehmann Ship: Gilbert/Alice
If you asked him, Gilbert would deny everything, there was no way he had a crush on his best friend. He didn’t smile like a dork when she praised his strength or when she called him amazing, even if his older brothers insisted he did. They didn’t know anything anyway. She was his best friend, or course he’d smile when she complimented him!
“Hey Gil, will you help me with my hair? It keeps getting caught on the flowers.”
Gilbert nodded, “Sure, come sit here and I’ll pick them out.”
A small pout formed across his face, ok, maybe he liked her a little bit more than a friend. He gently began to run his pale hands through her thick hair, meticulously picking the small lavender buds out of it.
“Why don’t you have your mother put your hair up before coming to the field?”
Alice leaned her head back to smiled up at him, “Because I like when you pick out the flowers!”
Gilbert scoffed as his cheeks began to burn, “Well it’s not very princess like to let your hair pick up stray flowers.”
Maybe he liked her more than a little more than friends. Gilbert wouldn’t tell anyone though, especially not his dumb brothers, they’d never let him live it down.
He watched her cross her arms, “And it’s not very Gilbert like to be gentle and take them out, but look where we are.”
Gilbert chuckled at her, “Ok, ok, I get it. We can keep it between us.”
Alice laughed, “Of course, this is our special time, I don’t want to share it with anyone else.”
Gilbert rubbed his face with his free hand, ok, maybe he was in love with her, but she didn’t help his situation! She always said things like that and would happily swing her feet and rush off for them to play tag in the courtyard. She didn’t care that she shouldn’t say those things, she meant them, but he was her guard and best friend so it was normal for her.
“Alice, I…”
Maybe he could tell her, just once, “I love you.”
Alice smiled up at him again, “I love you too, Gil, I always will.”
Gilbert’s cheeks began to flush as he opened his mouth to ask her a follow up question, but closed it as she shoved his shoulder and rushed off.
“Tag! You’re it!”
Gilbert blinked, “Hey! No fair!”
He quickly rushed after here, annoyed that she’d start their game of tag when he was trying to open up to her. He couldn’t really blame her though, he was itching to move too. Maybe he’d try again when they were older, like when he’s 8.

I write you letters, but I don't send them
I just can't figure out how to end them
I try to reach you, you're right beside me
There's something missin' and we can't deny that

Set list. 35's. 5 foot 9. Me for me. Small town me. Cruise. Out this way. Tough. Dancin' in the Country.
And we will go to our final episode of CMT Summer Sessions that we will talk about. Which is the 90's hosted by Lee Brice and aired on Friday August 18th, 2023 at 9pm EST.
Chris Janson - (Tim McGraw cover) - Down on the farm. Breland - (Deana Carter cover) - Strawberry wine. Ashley McBryde - (Pam Tillis cover) - Maybe it was Memphis. Lee Brice - (Travis Tritt cover) - Here's a quarter (Call someone who cares). Tanya Tucker - It's a little too late.
And that's a wrap for all the shows that I wanted to highlight for you guys. And I picked the episodes that I would be interested in. See ya all next time.
