I started and finished Quiet on Set in one sitting this evening. There’s obviously a lot to unpack from this docu-series and it would take a significant amount of time to run through every single thing that stood out to me in all the wrong ways, so I just want to quickly say this: there was an abundance of red flags with all these adults who were trusted with young children, and it truly blows my mind that 1) Nickelodeon as a network approved it and 2) almost none of the parents of these child stars spoke out about it. The ones who did were either alienated from their child or their child was fired. I can’t remember who it was who said something along the lines of “if you’re an adult who’s going to employ children, it’s your responsibility to ensure that you create an environment where they feel safe expressing they’re not comfortable with something,” but she hit the nail on the head with that one. In the 20 year time span this docu-series covered, none of these child stars felt comfortable expressing any discomfort they felt in their tenure with Nickelodeon. Jennette McCurdy’s book still haunts me to this day, and it pains me to say that she barely scratched the surface.

It’s disappointing to learn that so many disgusting things were going on behind the scenes of so many shows I adored as a child/tween, and I hope every single one of these child stars know how much support they have and are able to heal.

Dan Schneider, Jason Handy, Brian Peck, Ezel Channel, Robin Bell, and whoever else was behind these child stars being abused and exploited — you should all feel ashamed of yourselves and I genuinely hope you all know no peace for the rest of your lives.

The comments on that Giovonnie Samuels post are so sad. Many people underestimate the general public's resentment towards "Hollywood" performers.

and you can’t really blame people for their resentment because under capitalism pursuing the arts as a career is a luxury.

so it’s easy for people to be like oh you should’ve gone to college instead or oh go get a different job. but the central idea here and the basis of the labor movement is that no one deserves to work and be treated like shit and not be able to afford food and a roof over their head. it doesn’t matter if you’re a cashier or an actor or an astrophysicist, if you get up everyday to go to work you deserve a good working conditions and a livable wage.

x blind item was the obscure nick post from 3 years ago, it mentioned that Drake was the john doe in the case, and credits a "source close to the family of Drake Bell"

The additional comment references the theory that Dan S would try something to discredit Drake, which nobody can say for certain of course.

Another source, a woman whose name I cannot remember detailed something about how Dan allegedly, after firing her, bought and cancelled items from her ebay shop to give her a bad review from a sock puppet account.

Dan also allegedly contacted Alexa Nikolas' boyfriend back in 2017/2018

And last but not least, giovonnie samuels said in post QOS stuff that Dan contacted her, he knew about the doc for a year before and I think it might be because they extended an invitation for him to be a part of it (as per obscure nick) he wanted Samuels to put in a "good word" for him.

Highlight/s: I kept forgetting the movie wasn’t made in the 90s lmao the set design, costumes, hair & makeup etc are fantastic!; Awesome performances all round!; Real Holocaust survivors as themselves - that was intensely emotional; Honestly I wasn’t taking notes during this movie bc I was completely immersed almost immediately, it didn’t let me go til the credits started rolling. So I don’t have any other specific highlights to mention - the whole movie was a highlight of my week!

Lowlight/s: There’s too much focus on Hilary Swank’s character tbh, and her little whiney baby of a husband Patrick Dempsey omfg, instead of showing more of the kids’ lives in & outside of school. I got frustrated at times bc I wanted to see what they were up to but instead had to watch Patrick Dempsey in a strop bc.. well, for no reason really, nobody was stopping him from going out & doing what he wanted to do except him! And he just blamed it on everyone else instead. Ugh I don't care.

Will I watch it again? Yes! And I want to read the book! 🤞🏻

Giovonnie Samuels doesn't get the credit she deserves for adding so much humor and color to our childhood shows/movies. Personally she was my favorite cast member on All That and one of the first darker skinned girls I saw in the media. She looked like my aunts, my sisters, and I felt like I had a connection to her in a way I hadn't had with anyone on tv before.
