Fun fact!
On February 17th, 2005, my husband and I went on out first date. I had broken up with my ex just before Valentine's Day, his valentine stood him up, and we had been flirting for a year by this time.
I worked at a grocery store, and ever day he came in, he would wait in my lane. Didn't matter how many people were ahead of him, he would wait, usually with just two items. He missed his bus home soooo many times, just for those five minutes of flirtation. At the time, I was with an abusive man, but I firmly believed I didn't deserve better. My Bubby showed me otherwise, made me feel like I was worthy of happiness.
A few days before ValDay, my ex came to my flat with a couple friends. I had a cheap frozen pizza baking, and when I removed it when it was done, I saw it had warped during the baking process. My ex immediately got angry, and his friends stepped outside while he cornered me against the hot stove, blaming me for the pizza warping. I burned my back on the edge of the hot stove, and that was it. That's what snapped me out of my fear. I was dealing with bad rounds of PTSD flashbacks because of what happened to me just before ValDay when I was 18. My ex's behavior and the flashback and the absurdity of why he was angry pulled out of the spiral of fear. I got pissed off and snapped, kicked the fucker out, told him to leave the uni campus now or security would do it for him, and told his friends to fuck off into the sun for not protecting me. I was 100 lbs soaking wet, beanpole thin, barely 5'2," and this asshole was 180 lbs and over six feet tall. Almost a whole foot taller than me! I told him we are over. I'm done with him, his bullshit, the way he treats me, and that we are over. He was so shocked by this, his friends had to escort him.
Next few days, Bubby doesn't show up at all at my workplace. Like he up and vanished. I was planning on dropping the info about my being single and without a Valentine. He had told me where he hangs out between classes on the uni campus, so I hung out there for an entire day seeing as I had no classes or work that day. Just hung out while doing homework, waiting for him. Then he shows up, sees me, and is damn near glowing. Turns out, he quit his job, which was at a restaurant in the grocery store parking lot. His Valentine stood him up and ghosted him, so he offered to take me on that date instead.
He proposed nine months later (we do make jokes about that) he proposed to me after I survived a severe case of the flu. I had a high fever for days, couldn't bathe nor shower due to being so sick, he had to escort me to the bathroom just so I could use the toilet. The fever finally broke, and I was able to walk outta the bedroom unassisted. He got down on one knee, just outside the door, and proposed. I was a week without a shower, and he's proposing marriage. The proposal was not a surprise. We had spoken about marriage extensively. A proposal should never be a surprise, just the how and when. Please, for the love of fuck, never make it a public event. Bubby absolutely shocked me with how he did this. Obviously, I said yes!
We married June 18, 2006.
All possible because I dumped my ex and Bubby's date stood him up and ghosted.
BTW that date was a $200 shopping trip at Victoria's Secret, a really fancy expensive dinner, spending hours with other, talking and flirting and having a fucking blast. I still flirt with him, publicly and privately, because it makes him smile and blush.
Until 2019, February has always been the hardest month of the year. After decades of therapy, it's just another month. He got me roses today, found gluten-free mint oreos and bought me a pack (they taste like soft Thin Mint cookies, and i haven't tasted those in over a decade), Reese's Peanut Butter cups, made GF crab cakes and accompanying sauce from scratch, GF bow tie parmesan butter pasta from scratch (the sauce, not the noodles), and we watched the latest Hunger Games film (which does an outstanding job following the book because Suzanne Collins is the executive producer). Normally, we do pretty much nothing. This is the first time I got more than a card, the first time my anxiety was at base level, the fifth year without flashbacks from what caused the PTSD, and I'm soooo happy. He was thrilled to make something and got smiled big when I started crying about the cookies.
It was a fun day, and I wanted to share this story with you.

Whether you favor classic cream cheese and lox, a BEC or some type of sugary birthday cake cream cheese, a person’s bagel order can be truly personal and sacred.
However, after a controversial video that was posted onto TikTok over the weekend, we learned that it can also spark chaos.
In the 30 second video, user Taylor Offer recounted his experience attempting to order his preferred bagel in New York City. The Los Angeles native claimed that when he walked into a local deli, he was met with hostility when he asked for a “scooped, gluten-free” bagel, which runs rather contrary to the chilled-out bagel service that he was accustomed to on the West Coast.
Let me backup and define what a “scooped bagel” even is: It’s a regular bagel with most of its fluffy innards removed, creating two hollowed discs. The argument for some people to order a scooped bagel is to either make room for more toppings, or to remove a few extra calories from your morning deli order.
Though Offer tells his story with a smile, since uploading the video he and all the scooped-bagel lovers of the world have been facing backlash from every corner of the internet. From commenters claiming to be “team bagel shop” and calling the order a “crime” to people straight-up calling for border control in New York state to weed out carb-averse Californians, it’s safe to say that a scooped bagel is a less than savory choice.
In my opinion, this is an over dramatic yet very fair reaction. The concept of the scooped bagel is also lost on me. The fluffy interior is the best part — why ask the server to do the extra unnecessary arm work to remove it? Why make an already risky gluten-free bagel even less structurally sound? I’ll also echo other commentators and ask: Why not just order something else?
As  someone who used to work customer service, what’s extra satisfying about this little debacle are all the people calling out scooped bagel guy’s entitlement. Though I really do think Offer meant well, I wholeheartedly disagree with the phrase “the customer is always right,” because a lot of the time they’re wrong — very wrong. No one is entitled to the thing that they want just simply because they want it, even a scooped gluten-free bagel. While it may seem absurd to refuse service just over differing tastes, this worker was well within their rights to turn away a fussy, unnecessary order on a stressful day.
The  thing that stumped me the most, as an Angeleno myself, was Offer’s claim that scooped bagels are not only commonplace but celebrated in the city. Don’t get me wrong, Los Angeles bagels are nowhere near the caliber of New York’s, I can admit that. However, this video going viral further propagates the myth that Californians wouldn’t know a good bagel if it smacked them between the eyes.
With one of the biggest Jewish populations in the country, and an exciting bagel boom of late, I would consider Los Angeles bagels to even be a bagel destination, with places new and established to choose from.
While it’s tempting to lambast this naive user and call him a stereotypical health nut, don’t take  the rest of Los Angeles or its local bagel enjoyers down with it. I believe in the right to choose: If this man or anyone else wants to eat a really sad scooped bagel, let them. Just don’t expect to order it in NYC without getting a bit of a tongue-lashing, respectfully.

You know something that until you have a dietary restriction where you can’t eat a very common and specific ingredient that you don’t think about?
Spices.
I have to do a full background check and forensic analysis to find spices that are celiac safe, meaning: not processed near wheat or barley. Wheat and wheat protein are often used as anti-caking agents, which also makes things like shredded cheese a risk, but SPICES. The very cheap store-brand spices all come with a “may contain traces of wheat, nuts, and soy” warning. I don’t take risks on that warning if I don’t absolutely have to. The name-brand spices that are two to three times more expensive don’t come with a gluten free label, and googling the companies will often throw up a “the PRODUCT is gluten free, but the FACILITY isn’t a dedicated gluten-free facility so we can’t guarantee it’s totally safe” warning that drives me up the wall.
This happens with all kinds of things—grits, nuts, lunch meat, baking chips, candy, GRITS AGAIN BC IT IRKS ME HOW A NATURALLY GLUTEN FREE FOOD IS SO OFTEN PROCESSED ALONGSIDE WHEAT THAT I HAVE TO LOOK UP SPECIALTY BRANDS THAT COST A WHOLE ARM AND A LEG TO SHIP—but today’s particular irk is about spices. Specifically paprika.

Rambling thoughts on Episode 4x08 Control Freak
I knew the tux scene would be in the beginning – it was too perfect of an introduction to the full extent of Owen’s Dadzillaness – and Rob played it well (I feel sorry for his sons when they get married – I also love how they roast him all the time)
I love how Mateo has NEVER been afraid or shy of showing his emotions – going all the way back to when the 126 found out about Owen’s cancer in Season 1
So, if they are wearing the tuxes at Owen’s house – that means they already bought them – Dude – they aren’t cheap – let them wear the traditional stuff if that is what they picked out.
“I don’t have words” then continue to spew a lot of words.
I love the build up that we see in both TK and Carlos – How they are trying to humor Owen – even though it is making them both miserable.
The Grant guy kinda reminds me of Matthew Lillard from Scream.
That is some perfect lipstick on Marj.
Trying to figure out when the girl put the note on Marj’s bike
This was exactly what driving with my mother was like – I made it a whole entire block before refusing to drive with her in the car. This dad is so much like my mom.
When my mom was pregnant with me, my father drove up the guidewire of a power pole. He was 16 and dumb as fuck. He did it on purpose and didn’t make it that far up, but the whole car was on the wire. – Fortunately for my mom (and me) she refused to be in the car when he tried it. He is a fucking moron.
So much of this call is terrifying. The kid does an awesome job.
When do they have time to play operation? Do they have it in the firehouse game cabinet?
This reminds me of having to evacuate people from Roller Coasters on the lift hills when I worked at Cedar Point. It was kinda terrifying at times for the people (and depending on which coaster – for me too) and the security of it felt about the same as this rescue.
I am loving Paul – I love how he is so blunt when trying to rescue people – it can really help to get them out of their heads – this time he just needed an assist from the kid in the car. “Just shut up and let me help you.” Wesley.
I honestly thought we were going to get the first death of the season (outside of the nazi storyline) – I really liked the high risk of this rescue
TK is so used to control freaks that this dad doesn’t even faze him – just push the dad in the back of the rig and move on
Ahh the lunch scene is so cute
50% of wedding guests leave after the cake is served & toasts/first dances are done – this is my experience from the literal 100’s of weddings I have been a part of. If you have a cash bar – you lose another 20% with in an hour of the cake/dances.
I love the looks that each person gives Mateo when he corrects Carlos on the monk fruit.
Somebody has to stand up to him – so you call Mom.
I am on team Tarlos with not wanting their parents planning their wedding – sorry – but it is their day.
I find it absolutely fucking hilarious that Carlos “control freak & pushy bastard” Reyes called Owen a control freak. He wasn’t wrong – but it was a little bit funny.
I have had some pretty decent gluten & vegan free cakes.
Coach Beiste – I love seeing Dot-Marie Jones on anything – I love her
I love PI Marj
“Better you a kook then her dead.” That is actually a really powerful line. Doing/saying something in the face of domestic violence can be scary, but is so fucking necessary. I have no regrets for the times that I have stepped in, none. I can’t imagine the regrets I would have if I hadn’t done anything.
Tumblr media
The centerpieces he was doing were no where near as dramatic as I had imagined. (the pic above was my idea of Owen’s wedding moodboard.) The ones in the floral shop looked vastly different & were much more dramatic.
Carlos’ “Really?” when Owen said that his feelings wouldn’t be hurt if Andrea picked the other cake makes me laugh – like he is so so very doubtful.
They are so cocky coming in – the grins, the smirks, the looks.
I love silent communication – my husband and I are very similar and it is so convenient.
They are so mad that they liked that cake – like regretting so many things right now.
Carlos is trying so fucking hard to remind his mom that she is on team Tarlos not team Dadzilla.
Orchids are fucking expensive & fragile as fuck
The dawning of the awareness that Andrea turned zilla was so well done. Ronen and Rafa always have such amazing facial expressions.
I had a feeling the girl wouldn’t leave in the semi – it seemed like it was too easy and clean of a conclusion to their story – curious on if she is in the next ep or if it is just him.
Those are insane for each table – totally overwhelming
Fuck the flower arches too
I do like that they are not just forgetting that Carlos was married – like that we aren’t expected to forget about it.
“There’s a flower arch now?” the rise in TK’s voice is the beginning of him getting ready to go off and I fucking loved it
I love him.
That scene was amazing and everything I needed from them – the wedding is about the couple and what they want/feel – I loved that TK was the one to snap
This dude is fucking nuts – maybe
I love the talk between Owen and Andrea – I love how she admits to him what her biggest regret was.
I love how she tricked Owen while eating cake.
“Their ideas were just dull” – “At least they were their dull ideas”
They were mostly coming from a good and/or understandable place – but, I am glad that they realized that TK and Carlos need to be the ones to make the decisions on their wedding.
I kinda thought Marjan was going to be in the motorhome – but tied up in the back (before it was revealed that she was riding behind them)
Nice use of the fire extinguisher Marj – I was wondering if that would come back into play when she told them to keep it
I am hoping that the woman stays away from the guy in the next ep – like I hope that she doesn’t go back to him when he gets out of jail – I didn’t see her in the promo, but they love to hide shit with editing on those.
“Slightly overboard?” – slight exaggeration.
I wonder when Owen’s mom passed (really I am assuming she did, but who knows) for him to think that TK wouldn’t still need his dad after he got married.
Like I have been married for over 10 years and I still need my mom.
I think TK will leave tea bags in all mugs forever around Owen now.
I was actually worried that I wouldn’t like the talk between TK & Owen – this show likes to make TK blame himself for things & I was worried that they were going to go in that direction – so I was so fucking happy with the talk that they had.
This was a talk that felt more like them, like father and son instead of coworkers & sarcastic quips at work.
Owen did something with TK that he has a VERY hard time doing – he showed his vulnerability to him, his fear of not being needed in TK’s life.
I am looking forward to next ep – how much shit does Marj go through? She looked really messed up & I wonder if Paul or Paul and Judd (from the stills we got before the season starts) find her when they all go out looking for her & happen to be the ones that save her from the abusive guy.

Oooohhh! Can I ask about your favorite dessert and drink?
Hi Erika! Thank you so much for the ask! I’d love to answer these questions for you! 🥰
Questions from this “Get To Know Me” Ask Game
🎂 — Favourite Dessert
So fun(?) fact about me, I have Celiac/Coeliac Disease which kind of limits the types of desserts I can have, but there are lots of wonderful desserts that are gluten-free! 😊 While I have been blessed to have some really tasty gluten free cakes, cookies, and other baked goods in my life, my favourite desserts tend to be ones that are naturally gluten free (like ice cream, custards, and jello). One of my favourite naturally gluten free desserts is French macarons (which are made with almond flour). There's a local macaron bakery near to where I live that's fantastic, but I've also baked some myself (it's just a very labor-intensive process and I'm not skilled enough to make the more interesting flavors they have at the bakery 😅). For very special treats (since it's something I can't make myself...at least not yet😅), I love crème brûlée! But my go-to dessert at home is usually something simple like ice cream or jello! 🥰 (And now I'm reminded of a scene from one of my favourite movies "My Best Friend's Wedding", so I think I'll end this with a gif 😁)
Tumblr media
Gif from Buzzfeed
🫖 — Favourite Drink
I love tea of any kind, but my favourite is probably Darjeeling. My favourite soda pop is Dr. Pepper, and I also love apple juice and strawberry lemonade. For something a little more out of the box, I adore any flavour of blue gatorade.
In terms of an alcoholic beverage, I'm not a big drinker because I'm kind of lightweight, but I do enjoy making up my own cocktail recipes (it's a lot easier and more cost-effective for me to mix my own cocktails at home since Celiac/Coeliac Disease limits the kinds of liquor I can have too). If I go out to drink with friends (which is a very rare occurrence), I usually order something pretty standard like a Vodka Cranberry or Rum & Coke. Dirty Shirleys (Sprite, Grenadine, & Vodka) are pretty good too! 🥰 I also appreciate a good wine and prefer red wine over white though I tend to like rosés the best. There is also a local vineyard that makes wines out of other fruits which is pretty great. [I actually loved their cherry wine so much it actually inspired one of my fanfictions ("Wine Therapy")]. 😊
Thank you so much for the ask and for playing my ask game! 💖

What is something you want but can't afford to buy? A projector in my room. I’ve always planned to get one of those so that I’m not always stuck watching on a smaller screen - whether it’s my phone or laptop - but bigger priorities always get in the way every month. Then again I always feel uncomfortable making gadget purchases, and I largely save those for either my birthday or Christmas.
What is something you want but aren't sure if you should splurge on it? Tae’s Mute Boston Bag – my brain’s been through a million internal fucking debates on whether I should get my own or not because the thing’s market price keeps going up lmao.
Do you prefer ham or turkey with your stuffing and mashed potatoes? I’m gonna go ahead and assume this is a Thanksgiving thing and skip this. The closest thing we have is Christmas ham, but then again I’m not sure if any family here has it with the stuffing and mashed potatoes you’re talking about.
Do you usually eat wheat bread or white bread, or are you gluten-free? White. I never liked the texture of wheat bread.
What type of church do you like the most, if any? Not sure what this question is trying to ask since you just kinda have to go to a church that operates under your denomination, and it’s not like church-hopping is a thing people do hahaha...but in any case, I’m not a fan of the church and just attend to a Catholic one every Sunday out of obligation.
Was anyone rude to you today? No, not today. But boy did I come head-to-head with a really rude delivery rider yesterday...I get that we all have rough days, but idk, I hadn’t done anything to give him a reason to be short with me. I tried to be understanding, but he kept up quite a schtick until I lost my temper with him and in the end I gave him a not-so-generous review afterwards.
Which lost friend do you most wish you could be friends with again? I haven’t lost friendships that I regret.
Have you ever had a friend turn against you? Not turn against, but I had a couple of friends stop talking to me and my ex (then my best friend) all of a sudden, back in Grade 7. Like we were our own group, that’s how close we were, until one day when they just dropped ties with us. They must have had their reasons so I didn’t (and still don’t) resent them for it, and if anything it just taught me that people will do such things sometimes and you’ll just have to move on. What is your town known for? Being a pilgrimage site. And a bunch of rice cakes.
Do you live in the town you grew up in? Yeah, we just moved villages but pretty much the same area, yup.
What was that good year that you had? 2014 and 2021 I’d count as really great and happy years.
Did you make a memory jar for this year? If so, is it full? I don’t keep those. I did have a since-discarded memory box when I was in a relationship, but otherwise I don’t keep one for my life in general.
Do you want to make a memory jar for next year? No. I think this blog and my camera roll already serve a similar purpose.
Are you optimistic? Generally. Being pessimistic doesn’t lead me anywhere, as I’ve learned.
Do you think people ask too nosy questions? (in real life) Oh for sure. Come to the Philippines and spend a weekend with a Filipino family and you’ll learn just how irritatingly nosy people are capable of being.
Do you think you would be happier if you had more money? Well, I would. I’ve never been wealthy or privileged enough to treat money as a passive thing, and I always actively seek it to be closer to both necessities and luxuries. That being said, that motto about money being able to buy happiness is something I can really relate to.
Who's youtube channel would you like to guest star on? JOLLY or Good Mythical Morning.
What was the last thing you purchased off of Etsy? I’ve never bought anything from there. I don’t even know if I can get stuff from Etsy, where I’m from.
What is something currently on your wishlist from Etsy? I don’t even have an account. Is there a Target near you? Um, no.
Which is closest to you: Target, Walmart, Kmart, or Meijer? 🙄
Where did your Christmas tree come from? I have no idea, my parents bought it years ago.
Would you rather be an elf or a reindeer? Why? Neither. Who do you go to when you're lonely? Or what do you do when you're lonely? I just deal with the loneliness myself and try to nurse it by watching stuff that makes me feel less lonely.
Are you alone? Yes.
Are you ok? I’m always ok during weekends. I feel like I’m happiest during weekends, these days.
What color is your favorite sweater? I don’t have a favorite.
Name 10 things that are on your Christmas list this year. Hahaha 10? That is a lot...my wishlist will be largely the same as last year’s, which is just “get me anything BTS-related, doesn’t matter if it’s original or not.”
Silver or gold? Silver.
