Trend forecasting platform WGSN has unveiled the key colours and one of them is ‘CHERRY LACQUER’. This shade lies somewhere between Bordeaux and cherry red. The colour symbolises resistance and rebellion, which means that it is associated with the desire to go against existing rules and expectations.

Sabato De Sarno reinvented ‘Gucci classics’ such as the monogram and introduced Gucci Rosso Ancora, described as “a deep and rich shade of oxblood, just a few shades darker than the middle stripe in Gucci’s signature tri-stripe motif”.

Gucci held the Ancora Fashion show late last week with a new creative director Sabato De Sarno at the heart of the designs. Gucci, a fashion behemoth and subsidiary to Kering SA (Paris: KER), made a strategic digital move to widen its global reach through the fast-growing metaverse industry. Having held the Gucci Ancora Fashion show last Friday, the company now intends to display its products to more audiences through metaverses created by Roblox, ZEPETO, and China’s QQ. Universale, atemporale, emotivo: Styles racconta il nuovo profumo Gucci. Un omaggio alla nostra memoria olfattiva.

Dal fondo buio del corridoio di broccati un fischio accompagna l’incedere armonico e flessuoso, un paio di pantaloni bianchi e un maglione con scollo a V, da cui sbucano le due rondini in volo tatuate sul petto. Fuori dalle finestre dell’Hotel de Russie, due passi da piazza del Popolo, il vociare delle ragazzine assiepate in attesa di Harry Styles, ex frontman dei One Direction, boy band da milioni di incassi. Styles ora è un cantautore solista, un attore capace di “prestazioni brillanti” (come ha scritto il Telegraph), l’uomo voluto da Gucci prima come volto delle ultime campagne Tailoring e ora come capo crew di un gruppo di spiriti liberi talentuosi e bizzarri, scelti per fare da sfondo emotivo a Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur, il primo profumo no gender concepito sotto la direzione artistica di Alessandro Michele.
Diverso da tutto, e da tutti. «In tanti anni che creo profumi a nessuno era mai venuto in mente di farne uno alla camomilla», racconta divertito Alberto Morillas, maître parfumeur della composizione olfattiva, «eppure tutti ne conservano un ricordo. Questa fragranza non ha sesso, perché è un’emozione, libera. Ha a che fare con l’immaginazione. È come un elisir, un balsamo dell’anima». Universale e atemporale, Mémoire d’une Odeur parla del peso specifico, intimo e segreto, della nostra memoria. «La prima immagine che ho della mia vita è un viaggio a Disneyland, avevo circa tre anni e mi sono addormentato durante i fuochi d’artificio. L’odore dei popcorn, il profumo di mia madre... Annusarlo, ancora adesso, mi riporta a quando ero bambino», racconta Styles. Insisti per capire di che essenza si tratta e lui scherza: «È incredibilmente simile a Gucci Mémoire: camomilla, muschi bianchi, legni e vaniglia!», e scoppia a ridere snocciolando la composizione come un rosario. «No, davvero, quello di mia madre non posso descriverlo a parole… per me profuma solo di lei».
Lo shooting della campagna ha invece l’odore afoso della canicola estiva: «Abbiamo girato a luglio scorso, tra le rovine di un antico casale, alle porte di Roma. Un caldo torrido. Glen (Luchford, il regista dello spot, ndr) è strepitoso. Forse la persona con cui amo di più lavorare, in assoluto. Un paio di giorni meravigliosi anche perché sul set c’erano alcuni dei miei amici più cari, quindi è stato tutto immediato e genuino». Amici come Harris Reed, designer britannico che ha vestito Styles in più occasioni, o il barone Stanislas Klossowski de Rola, attore e musicista, nipote di Balthus, poi ancora l’artista Olimpia Dior, o Leslie Winer, la prima modella androgina a sfilare sulle passerelle negli anni 70. Insieme ballano, cantano, ridono, si baciano. La campagna è concepita come un album fotografico di famiglia.
Il protagonista è Styles, che al Met di quest’anno ha accompagnato Michele vestito di chiffon nero trasparente. «Negli ultimi due anni sono diventato più sicuro di me stesso e questo mi ha portato a essere più libero e aperto nei confronti del mondo. Ho realizzato che gli abiti hanno a che fare con il divertimento! Se sei a tuo agio nessuno potrà dire che non ti stanno bene o che hai sbagliato». Un cambio di stile riflette un’evoluzione personale: «Stare vicino a persone libere di pensiero, amorevoli, che ti incoraggiano a essere te stesso, e quindi diverso dagli altri, è una fortuna che non tutti hanno. Ti dà l’opportunità di capire cosa ti fa davvero felice». In questo ha avuto un ruolo decisivo l’incontro con Alessandro Michele: «È una continua fonte di ispirazione per me. Basta vedere come lavora, come ragiona! Vive nel suo mondo, immaginario e fantastico. Se ne esce con un’idea, magari tu non credi che la cosa funzionerà, mentre invece lui in qualche modo la sente: lui lo sa già».
Cambio scena. Palazzo Brancaccio, due passi dalla Domus Aurea, affreschi, stucchi e celebrities. Zumi Rosow mette i dischi, poi un concerto dei Fleetwood Mac. La musica è alta, la gente si diverte. A un certo punto una ballad, Landslide. Harry Styles è sul palco e duetta con Stevie Nicks. Tutto si quieta. Lui ha un completo bianco, occhiali a goccia. E lì succede qualcosa di magico, senza tempo. Di cui conservare memoria, e un odore di polvere di stelle.
