The "Gundam Franchise's New Work Unveiling" event on Friday briefly showed a visual for the works in the Universal Century timeline.

In the section for "new screen projects" were the following listings:

Universal Calendar 0097:

Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative (Kidō Senshi Gundam NT)

Film project — Fall/Winter 2018

Universal Calendar 0103:

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash (Kidō Senshi Gundam: Senkō no Hathaway)

Film trilogy — Fall 2019 or later

Universal Calendar 0104:

Mobile Suit Gundam UC2 (Kidou Senshi Gundam UC2, tentative title)

Overseas drama format — 2022

However, the Sunrise studio's emcee and one of the event's guests, Gundam Unicorn novelist Harutoshi Fukui, quickly told the audience to "pretend you didn't see that" visual. The visual did not confirm that the last two projects have been green-lit. The event did confirm that the Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative anime project will start theatrical screenings in November.

The visual also listed several official side stories that are being developed through games: MSV Gaiden (Mobile Suit Variation Side Story), Gya-Char UC: Gundam Kaihatsu Hiwa (Char's Counterattack UC: The Secret Story of Gundam Development), UC ep 0, and UC 0100 Zeon Jichiken Hōki (UC 0100: The Renunciation of Zeon Autonomy).

Brian K. Vaughan to Write Live-Action Gundam Film

Entertainment news website Deadline reported on Wednesday that comic book author Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways) will write the script for Sunrise and Legendary Picture’s live-action Hollywood Gundam film. Vaughan will also serve as an executive producer for the film.

Legendary’s executive vice president of production Cale Boyter (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu producer) will oversee the project. Boyter appeared with Bandai Namco Holdings president and representative director Mitsuaki Taguchi at Anime Expo in July to announce the adaptation. Robert Napton, former Bandai Entertainment Director of Marketing and Legendary Comics’ current Senior Vice President of Publishing, moderated the panel segment about the live-action film project.

The “Gundam Franchise’s New Work Unveiling” event in April had listed a tentatively titled Mobile Suit Gundam UC2 (Kidō Senshi Gundam UC2)project that would have an “overseas drama” format. The listing said the project takes place in Universal Calendar 0104 and would launch in 2022.

Annunciato un film live action di “Gundam”

La pellicola sarà prodotta da Sunrise e Legendary Pictures.

Durante il proprio panel all’Anime Expo di Los Angeles, Sunrise ha annunciato a sorpresa che lavorerà assieme allo studio cinematografico statunitense Legendary Pictures per la realizzazione di un film live action legato all’iconica saga robotica di “Gundam”.

Al momento non sono stati rivelati ufficialmente dettagli sul progetto, ma ad aprile era stato citato un possibile nuovo lavoro dal titolo provvisorio di “Mobile Suit Gundam UC2″. Da quanto trapelato, la finestra di lancio dovrebbe essere fissata per il 2022 e la storia ambientata nello Universal Calendar 0104. Il format era stato definito drama oltreoceano.

Lo storico franchise conta finora numerose rappresentazioni fra serie animate, film d’animazione, manga, romanzi, videogiochi ed una solo pellicola live action, intitolata “G-Saviour”, prodotto nel 1999 assieme a Polestar Entertainment.
