Best Destinations In India
Sikkim
Tumblr media
Sikkim is a state in northeastern India. It borders Tibet in the north and northeast, Bhutan in the east, Nepal in the west, and West Bengal in the south. Sikkim is also located close to India's Siliguri Corridor near Bangladesh. Sikkim is the least populous and second smallest among the Indian states.
Nestling in the Himalayan mountains, the state of Sikkim is characterized by mountainous terrain. Almost the entire state is hilly, with an elevation ranging from 280 metres (920 ft) in south at border with West Bengal to 8,586 metres (28,169 ft) in northern peaks near Nepal and Tibet. The summit of Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, is the state's highest point, situated on the border between Sikkim and Nepal. The state has 28 mountain peaks, more than 80 glaciers,[227 high-altitude lakes (including the Tsongmo, Gurudongmar and Khecheopalri Lakes), five major hot springs, and more than 100 rivers and streams. Eight mountain passes connect the state to Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal.
Highlights of Sikkim
Solophok Chardham Namchi, South Sikkim
Located about 5 kms from Namchi on top of the Solophok Hill Siddheshvara Dham is a unique Pilgrim Center. The entire complex is famous for the exact replicas of four Dhams, Badrinath, Jagannath and Dwarka Dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Rameshwar to Lord Shiva
Yumthang Valley Lachung, North Sikkim
Yumthang, situated at a height of 11800 feet is popularly known as 'Valley of Flowers', Located at a distance of 148 kms from Gangtok, it is a paradise for nature lovers with a fascinating blend of flora and fauna and breathtaking scenic beauty.
Tumblr media
Tsomgo (Changu) Lake Gangtok, East Sikkim
38 km from Gangtok and at an altitude of 12,400 ft, the ethereally beautiful Tsomgo lake is a must on every visitors itinerary. A winding road through rugged mountain terrain and sharp cliffs takes you to Tsomgo, which means source of the water in Bhutia language. The lake derives its water from the melting snows of the mountains surrounding the lake. Of legendary beauty, the lake looks different at different seasons. In winter the placid lake remains frozen with the area around it covered in snow while in late spring the profusion of flowers in bloom adds a riot of colours around the lake. The lake is associated with many myths and legends and is revered by the Sikkimese as sacred. It is believed that in old times, Buddhist monks would study the colour of the water of the lake to forecast the future.
The lake is also of special significance for the Jhakris [faith healers] of Sikkim who congregate here annually on Guru Purnima, which coincides with the festival of Raksha Bandhan, from all over the state to offer prayers.
 Pelling
Around 10 kms from Gyalshing, Pelling is today emerging as the second biggest tourist destination in the state after Gangtok. Although in itself it is little more than a strip of road lined with hotels, its main USP is the breathtaking view it offers of the Khangchendzonga and surrounding ranges, as well as the easy access it provides to tourist spots in the area. Pemayangste monastery is less than a kilometre from Pelling while a 40 minute walk on the hill opposite the monastery takes you to Sanga Choling monastery built in 1697, one of the first in the state.
Borong and Ralong hot water springs are located within a distance of 7 kms from each other. Popular with visitors from all over the region, these natural spas are said to have strong curative powers. Ralang Cha-chu can be reached after an hour long walk from Ralong monastery while Borang Cha-chu is reached after a 7 km drive to Ralong and then a 40 min walk downhill. For overnight stay temporary huts are available but you have to carry your own bedding and cooking utensils.
Buddhist Circuit
Sikkim was blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, the great Buddhist saint who visited Sikkim in the 8th century and consecrated the land, meditating at its four corners to rid it of all negativity. Here he is believed to have hidden many secret teachings
Samdruptse literally means 'wish fulfilling hill' in the Bhutia language. Situated near Namchi in South Sikkim, it is at a distance of 75 kms from Gangtok. A unique, awe inspiring and gigangtic 135 feet high statue of Guru Padamasambhava is installed atop Sampruptse. It is the highest statue of Guru Padamasambhava in the world. His Holiness the Dalai Lama laid the foundation stone of the statue in October 1997. It took nearly three years to complete the statue.
Best Sikkim tour package of 5N/6D
Gangtok is one of the more popular hill destinations in India’s northeast region. Most travelers visit Gangtok with the idea of catching a glimpse of the spectacular Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world. Gangtok roughly means ‘Majestic or Lofty Hill’
Tourists throng to Darjeeling throughout the year to enjoy its cool weather, mystical Himalayan mountains, beautiful hills and more. Each sight in this town is picture-perfect. Darjeeling is perfect for honeymoons or romantic getaways.

Top 10 Best Places For Visit in North East India
Namaste When the sweltering heat of the cities starts bothering us, we badly look for a retreat. In such a situation perhaps those who are single like me do not think much about location, weather, food and a heavy weight luggage. But, if your travel plan involves family as a whole all these concerns create a big hotchpotch and choosing the destination you want to head to turns out to be a million dollar question.
Tumblr media
Pelling, Sikkim
If you are bargaining for spending your summer break in a hill station other than the Shivalik or Western Ghats, head to Pelling- the popular hill station of Sikkim. One of the best summer holiday destinations in North-East India, Peling is around 10 km from Gyalshing, the district headquarter. The most exciting part of travelling to Pelling is the unsurpassed view of Kanchenjunga at dawn when the valley remains silent and you get the golden opportunity to mingle with nature and be yourself.
Mokokchung, Nagaland
You might have seen several tribal villages and communities in your life time, but Mokokchung district in Nagaland will introduce you to some unusual elements that you can’t find anywhere else in India. It takes around 6 hours to reach this place from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. Although the entire community of this region follows Christianity, yet they have not given up their traditional practices; it is an amazing thing one which you can explore when travelling in Mokokchung. The small villages of this district are found on green hillocks and inhabited by friendly Ao Naga tribe.
Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh
A multi-coloured canvas painted with the strokes of white-brown and green, Tawang is the land of the Monpas. Picturesque Buddhist Monasteries, sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls deck this North-Eastern travel destination which looks nothing less than a slice of heaven. You can easily plan for a vacation as Tawang has enough to meet your expectations. Unlike other Indian cities you don’t have to wait in long queues to visit its monasteries like Taktsang Gompa or Tawang Monastery. So you get sufficient time to explore the rich collection of artefacts and Buddhist manuscripts. As your family will be with you, let them experience the beauty of Sella Pass which exhibits an unsurpassed view.
 Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh
If you are travelling in summer to take a break from mundane lifestyle and looking for a less commercial yet mind refreshing tourist spot, Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh will be the best place. The flourishing paddy fields, gurgling rivulets and placid locale will amaze you and urge you to sit at the edge of a small hillock to feel one with nature. The long stretches of greenery that expand as far as you eyes can see and the pleasant weather would make you feel enchanted. Go exploring the small villages of Apatani tribes who are very friendly.
Dzukou Valley, Nagaland
I would suggest you to plan a trip to Dzukou Valley only if both you and your better half are equally zealous and love to explore the most exclusive natural beauty with open eyes. Tucked away at an elevation of 2438m, this valley is the dreamland of trekkers who cannot afford difficult grades. This picturesque hill station of Nagaland earns the sobriquet of the “Valley of Flowers of the North-East” for getting carpeted with wild flowers in summer. Dzukou is located at the border of Manipur and Nagaland and trekking expedition in this valley tends to be easy to moderate.
Haflong, Assam
The only hill station of Assam, Haflong is dubbed as the “white ant hillock” and you will undoubtedly fall in love with it once you reach there. Located at a distance of 310km from Guwahati, this quaint hill station revives you from inside as there is an absence of commercialisation and disturbing honks. Less crowded and less advertised in comparison to other Indian hill stations, Haflong appears to be the best summer holiday destinations in Assam.
 Majuli, Assam
If Assam is the cultural hub of the North-East then Majuli is its fulcrum; you will realize the logic behind my argument when you explore the hidden gems of this holy land with utmost care. Located at a distance of 200km east of Guwahati, this river island can be accessed by ferry from Jorhat. Formed on the heart of mighty Brahmaputra, this river island flaunts unparalleled scenic beauty speckled with wind-blown rice fields and water-bodies blooming with flowers.
Shillong, Meghalaya
If you are expecting to enjoy your much-awaited summer holidays in North East India without compromising on the level of comfort and class then Shillong town should not escape your sight at any cost. The neat and clean roads meandering through the hills, salubrious weather and the free lifestyle of the locales would inspire you to be here for the second time. Dubbed as the “Hollywood of North-East”, Shillong hosts lavish accommodation built on the edges of placid mountains and lakes.
Cherrapunji, Meghalaya
If you want to walk amidst the clouds even in the sweltering heat of July, head this summer to Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on earth. 58km from Shillong this amazing tourist spot has vivacious waterfalls, lush green meadows and delightful weather that make your sweet summer feel appropriate. Officially known as Sohra, Cherrapunji has abundant camera-friendly landscapes which will be not less than a lifetime experience. Nohkalikai Falls is reckoned to be the tallest plunge waterfall in India.
Tsomgo Lake, Sikkim
For touring North East India in summer season, Sikkim hardly has any other rivals and to verify this statement you should explore the part of Tsomgo Lake which is tucked at an altitude of 3780m. Located at a distance of around 38km from Gangtok, this lake exudes ethereal views for the surrounding mountain ranges of the Himalaya. The best part of exploring this lake vicinity in summer season is the unmatched vistas painted with blooming rhododendrons, primulas, blue and yellow poppies. If you are travelling in May, chances of witnessing snow are brighter as it remains frozen till mid June.
