Last movie: ummm i kind of think it was ready or not, which i watched on the flight back from new zealand like... three weeks ago oop. but my mom and i might go see 1917 tonight!

Reading: i’m currently listening to the things we cannot say by kelly rimmer and reading sir john franklin’s narrative of a journey to the shores of the polar sea in the years 1819, 20, 21 and 22! technically i have a lot of other half-finished books shelved on goodreads LMAO but uh i’ll get back to those someday!

Are you named after anyone? . . . oh lordy, am I ever. My legal name goes like this: Virgin Mary+maternal grandmother (first name), ship my dad sailed around the world in (middle name), and patron saint of writing (Confirmation name). Then my chosen name, RC, is actually taken from this URL so idk if that counts? 

When was the last time you cried? :eyes emoji: Can I take a pass on this one? Let’s just say late night phone conversation? 

Do you have or want kids? Mmmmmmm nope. Being the oldest of six and seeing how we were raised due to largely invisible cultural contexts and familial trauma has put me off the idea pretty thoroughly. I’m totally down for being the cool aunt, though, or for being a mentor figure to my kids, i.e. my comp students each semester. 

Do you use sarcasm a lot? Never. /s

What’s the first thing you notice about others? Tattoos! They always catch my eye, particularly those with any kind of pop culture flavor to them and those with strong lines, bright colors, or well-executed shading. These things can all be hard to do well, and even harder to sit still for! Also, in my experience people tend to have strong personal reasons for getting tattoos, so seeing their artwork is a really neat way to get a glimpse of them as individuals even before talking to them!

What’s your eye color? brown

Scary movie or a happy ending? mmmm I don’t know. . . Both fall into formulas a little too easily for my taste? 

Any special talents? I can eat a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts in one sitting? 

Where were you born? A since-decommissioned military base in Japan

What are your hobbies? sleeping, writing, reading fic, playing D&D, keeping up with a select few shows and YouTube channels, spending time here on tumblr (I have too many sideblogs), prepping for conferences/research projects (no, really), and driving!

Do you have any pets? i wiiiiiiish. . . unfortunately, my lease and my schedule don’t really allow for one right now. 

What sports do you play/have you played? Gymnastics, basketball, and tennis 

How tall are you? 5′8

Favorite school subject? I’m not sure, actually. Believe it or not, biology and math used to be up there on the list! Also believe it or not, I’ve always hated creative writing classes (. . . my mom tried to teach me once and I took two in undergrad. Never again.) 

Dream job? I vacillate between tenure-track lit professor or editor/proofreader. Both have their upsides and downsides, and each makes use of a different part of my current education and experience, so. . .

GRES

I GRES nascono a fine 2018 nelle nebbie perenni della provincia modenese. Dave, Marcello, Simone e Camilla vengono da progetti locali differenti, da cui si portano dietro differenti influenze che creano il mix sonoro di “La Giusta Distanza”, il loro primo album pubblicato nel marzo 2020 per We Work Records. Una miscela incendiaria che potrebbe far pensare a delle Bikini Kill con i riff dei Motorpsycho più incazzati.

1 - Ti svegli su un isola deserta. No panic: hai potuto portare con te tre cose e una di queste è un album.   

- Cami: Relationship Of Command. E’ l’album di cui ruberei la paternità se come in certi film si potesse tornare indietro a prima che fosse scritto e pubblicarlo in anticipo. Magari non è l’ascolto più sofisticato possibile, ma se chi legge ha presente cosa significa ascoltare un pezzo e sentire che risuona con qualcosa che si ha dentro, all’altezza della pancia, potrei spiegare dicendo che questo è l’album con il quale sento più corrispondenze interne. Suoni, idee, rabbia. Poi porteremmo credo tutti qualche strumento per continuare a suonare e una misteriosamente funzionante connessione a Netflix. 2 - On the road: c'è un’ autoradio con dentro una musicassetta. Dentro ci sono almeno tre canzoni da cantare a finestrino aperto.   

- Cami: 1) Qualsiasi hit dei Queen. Ho imparato a cantarle praticamente mentre imparavo a parlare e sono affezionata al timbro di Freddie Mercury come un pulcino alla voce di mamma anatra. 2) Loud Love dei Soundgarden. A forza di urlare per raggiungere Chris le sporcature del mio cantato hanno iniziato a sembrarmi accettabili. Gli devo una parziale consolazione per il triste fatto che non sentirò mai un bel timbro maschile uscire dalla mia gola. 3) Bailando, Paradisio. E’ una canzone con grandissime potenzialità punk non capite e prima o poi convincerò gli altri a farne una cover incredibile. 3 - Hai rimandato, hai rimandato ma oggi tocca a te. La playlist dal dentista per non sentire il trapano nelle orecchie.

- Simmi: non mi dispiacerebbe un tiro dal cannone che Bob Marley fuma sulla copertina di “Catch A Fire”, giusto per mettermi alla prova. Vorrei anche l’asta del microfono del cantante dei Korn da tenere come lampada in casa… mi è sempre piaciuta un sacco. 5 - Guilty Pleasure: quella canzone che ti fa vergognare, ma che non puoi proprio fare a meno di ascoltare.

- Cami: tra i recenti direi Bando di Anna Pepe, rifiutato categoricamente da tutti gli altri della bénd, che infatti mi disconoscono come leader tranne quando c’è da rispondere alle interviste. 6 - Film o serie tv: questa volta sceglilo per la colonna sonora.

- Cami: Fight Club, scena finale della città che crolla su Where Is My Mind dei Pixies. Grande riferimento per il mio personale concetto disfunzionale di amore dall’età di 17 anni. Marci: Gli anime ormai sono considerati serie tv quindi dai, dico Cowboy Bebop di Yoko Kanno & the Seatbelts. C'è di tutto dentro, un'infinità di generi diversi ed è tutto bellissimo. 

7 - La chiavetta nello spazio: la band o il musicista di cui la terra non ha proprio bisogno.

- Cami: la facciamo decollare vuota, mi sa. La musica è il nostro spazio di libertà. Così come ci vogliamo esprimere noi senza ricercare per forza un consenso, ci piace l’idea che possano tutti viverla esattamente come ritengono. Poi sarebbe un peccato limitare la propria realtà solo a quello che si riesce a comprendere, no? Simmi invece ci tiene a dissociarsi da tutto questo buonismo e dice che ci pensa lui a riempire la chiavetta. Si rende disponibile per fornire in privato un dettagliato elenco e delle spiegazioni, che per ragioni legali non riportiamo qui. 8 - Il 1999 per noi Caroline Records è stato l'anno in cui abbiamo cominciato a diventare quello che musicalmente siamo oggi: tu a che punto eri?

- Dave: nel ‘99 presi la patente e la mia prima auto usata, una Fiat Tipo bianca con il mangianastri. Suonavo la chitarra in una band death metal chiamata Heskil e avevo i capelli lunghi fino a metà schiena. 9 - E invece un album degli ultimi 12 mesi che tutti dovrebbero ascoltare? 

- Cami: Concrete di Tegu, uno dei pochi pànc che riesce a fare roba di mio gusto anche con i suoni pulitini. Il chitarrista della mia band precedente mi ha consigliato Tha Supreme, ma sto ancora cercando di capire, ci lavoro eh… mi applico. Marci: “Don't Waste Your Anger” dei The Smith Street Band 10 - Dal vivo: il miglior concerto che hai visto, quello che rimpiangi di aver perso e quello che non vuoi assolutamente perdere.

- Marci: Migliore visto, Tallest Man On Earth a Londra al Roundhouse. Quello che rimpiango, Crash Of Rhinos. Quello che non perderò, Kate Tempest.
