I'm guessing the well is poisoned and he waters the plants differently to see if the water is still good or tampered with. "He did say to not drink from the well and only from the jars in the annex".
They both give the overall same vibe, but the anime actually makes him look like a human instead of the actual chicken baby that he is🐣 (jk obviously).
Wakamiya
Ngl I didn't expect them to make his eyes golden. I'm pretty sure his eyes are purple in the manga and I actually like them better that way, but I guess it makes sense considering that he is the Golden Raven. Maybe they should've made his hair a little bit more flowy, but they kept his absurdly long eyelashes and that's all that matters.
Asebi
Now onto what's probably my favorite design for the anime. I actually adore Asebi's new design and the more I see her, the more I like it. I don't what else to say. Everything here is where it should be.
Masuho no Susuki
I wasn't a big fan of her new design at first because I kinda had mixed feelings with her hairstyle, but she has grown on me a little. It's a good design, I just like the manga's version better (but I understand that it would have been a pain to animate all that hair).
Shiratama
I don't know if I've ever mentioned this, but Shiratama is actually my favorite princess and part of the reason why is the vibe that her design gives off. I'm really going to miss her hairstyle, it was very Heian-inspired. So, does her anime version have a good design? Yes. Is it the design I wanted for Shiratama? Not really, but it's alright.
Hamayu
And last but certainly not least, the tall queen herself. I love her ponytail, but her new hairstyle also has a lot of personality. I love the white ribbon. Very pretty.
So those where all the main characters! I might do the same for the secondary ones. And you can also tell me how you feel about the anime designs.
I think I should start thanking the manga of the first book because, otherwise, I wouldn't have discovered this series.

The manga covers are also stunning. I would have a really hard time if you asked me to pick just one.
I find it really cool that each one of them has different flowers.
Asebi has cherry blossoms, which make sense because they are in some way the reason she fell in love with Wakamiya in the first place.
Shiratama is holding daffodils and the flowers on her hair kind of look like white camellias (?).
Masuho no Susuki has peonies and Japanese camellias.
Hamayu's flower is a very specific type because she shares her name(浜木綿) with it: the Crinum Asiaticum (also known as the Red Giant Crinum Lily). In real life, it would look like this:
Oh, and the entire plant is apparently toxic by the way.
