#I have a lot of thoughts about this movie#I posted them elsewhere but I think I’ll put them here too#I really like how this movie portrays the conflict between man and nature.. it doesn’t resolve easily and there is no quick answer.#The humans are destroying the forests but with this comes industrial development#which improves their quality of life (especially for the sick/disabled) and also provides jobs for women and#allows them to be more independent… There isn’t a clear villain.#Ashitaka goes with San into the forest but he doesn’t become one of them he is still human and treated as such by the forest spirits.#(His relation the the iron town people is especially interesting#He doesn’t exactly feel duty bound to protect them as a fellow human nor does he side with San and her pure hatred of humans#He stands somewhere in the middle which is a pretty much impossible place to be in)#art#princess mononoke#studio ghibli
