The album, with a dark brown half-leather cover, is inscribed inside with "Tebe Photo Book No. 75/8 light." The first page is handwritten in ink and dated "October 29, 1939." Below is an old glued-in provenance label: "Photo album. The children of Reich Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. On October 29, 1939, for his birthday. From the personal possession of Joseph Goebbels - Found in 1945 on his property in Prenden." This is followed by 20 photographs (18 x 13 cm) of his five children

Past life memory:

I was sitting on my father`s lap. I was smiling like i always was. I remember him saying: "du kleine grinsebacke" (You little smiley face). The man behind the camera directed my father to take my hand. He did and the photograph was taken.

Whenever I think of this memory, my heart burns just a bit. How could the man I loved so deeply at home, be such a evil person at work ;c so many people died because of him, I cry hard whenever I research on what happened in the holocaust, because I was living a happy life, a normal childhood in Germany, while my father was part of the reason other children were suffering horrible deaths and having their childhood taken from them :c

I don’t know how to feel about my past father, I want to punch him for what he stood for, yet I also want to hug him since after all, he was still my father and I loved him deeply in the past.

Studio portrait of Helga, Hilde, Helmut, Holde and Hedda Goebbels. The photograph was probably taken in 1940, in Berlin Wannsee.

The back is written by Magda herself, with best wishes for Christmas and the upcoming year in her name and in the name of "Helga, Hilde, Hellmut, Holde, Hedda and little Heide".

It strikes me how Magda writes Helmut's name. In fact, every time I have read his name written by her, she spells it "Hellmut".

The fact that the image depicts the 5 eldest children and "little Heide" is mentioned on the back, makes me think the photograph was probably taken during 1940, before Heide's birth, and it was used as a New Year 1940-1941 card.
