I would definitely recommend checking out Henry Hatsworth if you ever find the time! It's woefully obscure but every facet of it oozes with charm and character, with Lady D and Lance Banson in particular being highlights (aside from Weasleby himself of course)... though I'd maybe check out a walkthrough or an "all bosses" video since the game itself is notoriously difficult ^^;
we love a woefully obscure game around these parts!!! i've just been watching some of the gameplay and aww it is so sweet 🥺💖 thank you so much for the warning as well - i am Not A Good Gamer and this would make me rage quit so fast 🙈🙈🙈

While I was playing Henry Hatsworth, I just realized that this game exists because of the Nintendo Ds. The console was really popular and thanks to this a lot of companies tried to put their games on the hardware since it was fairly cheap to produce them. So even if the game failed in sales, thanks to the lower budget the different companies wouldn’t have lost a lot of money.
This means that a lot of interesting games on the ds exists because of this specific thing. The console was really popular, and thanks to this the library is really big. Both good and interesting titles as well as bad ones are on the hardware, which makes everything a lot of interesting.
The only problem is that a lot of games that came out on the Ds today might not be playable outside of the original hardware because of the touch screen. As of today, all the games that don’t require the touch screen to play are easy to play even on emulator, but the ones who heavily use it are difficult to play today because of this.

You do a lot of fanart so question: Anything you're a fan of you haven't done fanart of?
That's a good question. For as much fanart as I do, truth is almost a half of a life doing nothing but commissions and work has left me with very little time to do things for fun, so I don't have a lot of things I'd say I'm a fan of... Most of my fanart is driven by the feeling I have a twist to give it, so sometimes things I like I just don't feel like I have something to say about it, and other times I draw things I am not a fan of because I feel I can give it an interesting twist. That said, let me see if I can think of something:
😼I'd like to do some art of Cool Cat (I like trainwrecks) 🍓I want to try to redesign Skysoar from the Sonichu comics, although drawing anything Sonichu related comes with some baggage no matter what you think about the whole Chris Chan phenomena. 👹I want to redesign monsters from Palworld! So many of them have something I can feel I can work with but are stuck in 'we frankestein-ed pokemon together' hell. 🧩There's this DS Game I've been playing in my effort to become less of a hopeless workaholic called 'Henry Hatsworth in the puzzling adventure' and I might draw something about it. There is some toxic old man yaoi going on there~ 👾Digimon has a lot of fun designs and I should totally draw for it, too! Also Myotismon 😳 🎶Everybody should have their own version of Miku~ 🍴I like the Promised Neverland, but it does not have a lot of things I LIKE to draw in it (even if it is a gorgeous manga). Krone tho. I love Krone. She was fun and powerful and tragic. 🐈Mewgenics, definitely! This one is a weird one because I am part of the development team as an artist, but there's things I want to draw but am waiting for the game to release. I don't want to mix my own takes with the actual work and create weird expectations. Also spoilers. 👽I have drawn some Alien 9 fanart but I do want to draw more 🐶This is for other artist but something involving CanisAlbus' gay tragic dogs would be nice~ There's even other artists whose OCs I like a lot lately I'd love to try my hand on.

Btw, since you're British, and like video games, have you ever heard of Henry hatsworth in the puzzling adventure? It's a very British ds game from 2009
I have not heard of that one! Back during the brain train boom, I was a Professor Layton fan tho and I played some of the knock-off versions, like May's Mysteries: The Secret of Dragonville and Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights. (My take-away from those games if that May's Mysteries is so awful that it cycles back to being kind of funny, but there's absolutely nothing redeeming about the Lautrec game at all) But I guess Henry Hatsworth went under my radar

I will never stop DS posting. Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure should be taught in game design classes. Absurd genre crossovers should be the fucking norm. Rarely have I ever seen a game so fully commit to the bit of being stupid. Everything from the OST to the best in class sprite art sells the idea that this game is fucking stupid and having a wonderful time being stupid.

Hi! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the Hooded Claw from The Perils of Penelope Pitstop or Leopold Charles Anthony Weasleby the Third from Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure!! Both hit that niche of dastardly, scheming villain that I think might be up your alley ^^
hello there lovely!!! are you having a nice day? 🥰💖 OOOH new silly villains to gawk at, thank you so much!! what a wonderful present to receive 💖
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ohoho...hello handsome 👉👈 my dear friend, you must've crawled into my brain to know this is the kind of villain i love unreservedly...wow he's cute!!! 🙈💖 Sylvester Sneekly/The Hooded Claw isn't a character i'm familiar with (vaguest memories of Wacky Races and never saw The Perils of Penelope Pitstop), but oooh, he's nasty!!!! 🥴💖
imagine being so terrible that you continually try to murder a young woman in your charge just to get her money...he's giving Edgar Balthazar from The Aristocats vibes, and it's magnificent!! the voice and the mannerisms are deliciously evil, he's serving cunt in all of his outfits, and i'm loving the master of disguise deal he's got going on 😖💖 thank you so much for telling me about this guy, i'm definitely going to look more into him 😉
Tumblr media
now OP, between the Hooded Claw and this Leopold Weasleby the Third fellow...do you think you might have a type? 😂💖 i was actually having a little trouble finding out a lot about this guy, but i must say he is tremendously dashing!!! he's got that Mad Mod look with the cravat and the diamond-topped cane 🥴💖 am i right in understanding that this is actually the robotic disguise of a character named Cole? has he adopted other names? i would love to know more about this universe!! Henry Hatsworth In the Puzzling Adventure looks like loads of fun...and we stan a niche villain 'round these parts 🙏 thank you for these fantastic submissions, and your absolutely stellar taste!! i can't wait to learn more 👀

In April I also decided to revisit a game that I originally played on the Nintendo Ds back in the day, a game that I was really fond while I was a child and I have a lot of memories of me playing this. I’m talking about Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. This is a game published on the Nintendo Ds by EA (surprisingly enough) back in 2009. I decided to replay this game and see if my opinion changed compared to what I remember or maybe seeing if I like this game even more.
This game starts when Henry Hatsworth (who is an adventurer) finds a cursed golden hat that restores his youth but also rips open a hole to the puzzle realm. To prevent the puzzle realm from doing damage in the real world, Henry has to retrieve the rest of the Gentleman's Suit. While he’s searching for it, he will fight his nemesis, Weasleby, who is also after the suit, and he'll do whatever he can to slow down Henry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The story in this game is nothing amazing: it’s a story that works in the contest of the game, but it won’t be the main reason to play this. In fact, the story is mostly there to give a context as to why everything is happening and sets the journey in the right way. In this sense, it serves its purpose well: you can tell immediately that the story in this game is really simple, and it should be taken from what it is. This isn’t a story-based game at all, so it’s probably better to play another game if you care more about the story.
Tumblr media
The main focus to this game is the gameplay. Despite its name, this game is more an action platformer than anything else (and not a puzzle platformer unlike what the title might suggest you).
You will explore a world and you will do the different levels. In the level you have to reach the exit, while avoiding the pitfall, jump on the platform and kill enemies when this is needed. The levels are well crafted, the designers put a lot of care for this aspect while also carefully choosing the placement of the different type of enemies.
Tumblr media
The movement option in this game are pretty basic: walk, jump, attack, using a gun, dashing when you get the ability. It’s not a game that will unlock a lot of option in that sense, it’s not a game where you will unlock a lot of abilities.
You have the option to engage in combat with melee attack or with a gun. In the early game you can easily see enemies melting with the melee attack (you can do a basic combo with them, and enemies will die to them) but this isn’t really the case for the later enemies: they became way, way more resistant when you advance in the game so it’s much easier to deal with them with the gun, rather than using the melee attack.
Tumblr media
That said, the game is forgiving enough when it comes down to enemies: when it’s time to introduce a new enemy, he is isolated. You have the time to study the enemy pattern when he is alone: the game will give you enough time to became adjusted to the new type of enemy before letting you fight him with the others.
Tumblr media
The game has 5 worlds, with each world having 5 levels (and then the boss fight level).
This game is actually really hard (some of the later stages are really difficult, and this also true for the boss). They aren’t impossible, but if you didn’t play a lot of action platformer this game might be really hard for a lot of people. The timing needs to be fairly precise to get through various parts of the levels, but like I said, the challenge is definitely possible.
Tumblr media
One thing that I also really like a lot is how they levels are really distinguishable from one another fairly easily, the background for the different levels is fairly unique and it does change from area to area. This isn’t definitely something that I didn’t fully remember, so it was genuine surprise to see this.
If the game is an action platformer, why it’s called the puzzling adventure then? And in order to respond to this, it’s time to talk about the section the lower screen of the Ds.
Enemies don’t disappear immediately after you defeat them: instead, they go in the lower screen section of the Ds where you have to combine the blocks where the enemies are and in this way they will disappear forever.
The enemies defeated will let you feel a meter bar in the right part of the lower screen, and when this bar is full, it’s Tea Time.
Tumblr media
I think that it’s really funny that you can take a sip of tea with historical figures and became stronger while doing it
When you activate this, you will start using a giant robot suit and you can start smashing enemies with this (including boss). It’s genuinely a fun thing to have around, especially considering that you are virtually invincible while you are inside the robot suit. You can use Tea Time when you fill the right meter bar twice.
It’s worth mentioning that enemies aren’t the only thing that goes in the lower screen: useful items go there as well. This is interesting: this means that you can activate these things when you need them since you don’t use them immediately. This also applies to your health; you will replenish your heart bar when you combine the right item in the bottom screen. These actions also refill the right bar: this is really helpful for getting Tea Time in a faster way.
The left bar in the lower screen is the time meter bar, which shows the time that you can stay in the puzzle mode and when this is down to zero, you are forced to leave the puzzle mode.
When you use the puzzle mode the action on the top screen gets frozen, so you can do what of you want without worrying about the rest.
Tumblr media
You can buy useful upgrade from the shop but keep in mind that you don’t really need them to finish the game (even though I lost a little bit of time while farming in later stages to get all the heart upgrades in order to have a better survivability chance later in the game). You can buy these passive stats update between the various levels of the game (the shop is always available to the player).
I still didn’t mention the ost in this game, which is simply amazing: it’s so hard to believe this for a ds game, but this is the case. Here are some tracks from it (btw, this is the only playlist that I have found that has the full ost of the game on Youtube, which is a shame considering the quality of it).

Overall, it was a lot of fun to revisit this game. While this is a difficult game (like, really hard) it’s still lot of fun and I can recommend this if you like action platforming game and you can handle the difficulty. It’s legitimately an amazing game on the system (probably it’s better to play this on emulator than real hardware, the part in the lower screen can easily be done with the d-pad, so this isn’t a problem) and overall, something that you shouldn’t miss if you like platformers. This game is really good.
P.s. I still genuinely can’t believe that this game was done by one EA studio, like what the actual hell. Back in the day I didn’t fully know what company EA is, but knowing this right now is something for sure.
