Good news: after a lot of weeks, my air conditioner is fixed!! Also good news: I caught an error in the software at work that was impacting both contractor pay and customer invoicing! Bad news: going through large amounts of data loosely falls under the purview of the department I am now sort of in charge of, which meant my department (which is me and two other people) had to individually open every single order from [specific subset of customers] since the beginning of the year to manually check if either error had occurred. Hundreds of orders, even with a few different criteria we could use to narrow it down. It's done though! I mean the error is not fixed but previous instances of it causing problems are caught and now that we know it exists we can catch future problems before they are invoiced/paid out I have done zero crafting today and I honestly doubt I will get any done lol

So, I don't work directly with police in my job, and in fact I frequently am in positions to argue against using police in our operations (and I do argue this whenever the opportunity arises). But one of my coworkers is an emergency responder liaison, which means she does a lot of budgeting and scheduling and managing of cops.

That all to say, in the course of a workday, I randomly get hit with a fun new "oh you're just gonna say the quiet part out loud" dystopia fact about how cops work.

Today's tip: Don't make public health and safety arguments to cops about why they should do the things they are employed to do, like directing traffic around a crash, or administering CPR before paramedics can arrive. No, here's the script: "It's not just about life and death, it's also about liability."

They're not afraid of their negligence killing people. They're afraid of the hassle of being taken to court to explain why they let their negligence kill someone.

A little break.

It's an afternoon. the golden light of the sun shine through a window into the room. It looked like a break room, with a fridge, coffee machine, and microwave present. Across the room was a table, with someone sitting there. They seemed to have a mug right next to them, as they pondered in thought.

"So. This is Ace's Base of Operations. Pretty cosy for a place that's supposed to be a covert organization."

He would pull down his mask, taking a sip from the mug, with smoke still coming off the surface of his drink.

"I shouldn't be here. This isn't somewhere I belong. And yet, here I am. Stuck here until I recover."

He would murmur to himself, looking at the damaged suit he wore. Looks like he needs to go to a tailor after he recovers.

"Maybe I could ask Seam to fix and even adjust my suit. It isn't as flexible as I hoped it to be."

A ding can be heard, as Nacho carried a box of donuts. Looked like he got some for Oni and itself.

"Still gotta say, this town's donuts are good. Safe to say this place has decent food and drink. Well, at least this is some rest from work."

He'd say, as he opened the box and got one, as Nacho ate one themselves. Oni would then turn to Nacho.

"Hey, bud. I got a question for ya."

Nacho would look at Oni, nodding to affirm to ask them.

"Do you trust these guys? 'cause, as far as I know, you're really the only one I fully trust here."

Nacho would ponder a moment in thought, before nodding and chirping as to signify 'Yes.'

"Hm. Alright then. Maybe I should stick around more often. See how this goes."

He would say, as he scratched Nacho's chin, and continued to drink his mug and eat donuts.
