So you’ve heard of “Lance talks about Keith and Spanish and Keith has no idea what’s going on” a beloved classic
But I bring you “Keith’s a born and raised Texan, (Texas has one of the highest Spanish speaking populations in the US) who was also partially raised by Adam who spoke Spanish around the house a lot. And so he understands most of what Lance is saying but is to embarrassed to admit he knows that Lance has talked about how soft his hair looked on at least three separate occasions “

I never watched season eight of voltron cause I'd heard so many bad things about it and was afraid, what happened that was so bad?
Oh boy oh BOY where do I begin
Focus on redeeming the main villains
Killing off Adam. Yes it was s7 but I’m still mad
They marry shiro off to a random extra and leaks from the show reveal it was added last second bc they did not anticipate how pissed off everyone would be about Adam
No genuinely what did they expect. To happen. When you hype up shiros ex and then kill him 3 minutes later. That’s textbook queerbait bury your gays. If you talked to anyone gay they would’ve told you it was a bad idea
Allura and Lance go from “ew I’d never date him” to “this is true love” like 30 seconds after Lotor dies. Way to make a guy feel special
There’s just an uncomfortable amount of heterosexuality tbh like my own klance love notwithstanding
Everyone gets their characters fucked over. No arcs are completed. No one gets closure
The plot is just total nonsense. I’ve forgotten most of it
Something about Hagar and Allura? And other realities????
Oh yeah Allura fucking dies
She flat out dies. Just. Why. WHY.
AND THEN LANCE. THE HISPANIC CHARACTER
GIVES UP ON HIS DREAMS
TO BECOME A FARMER
And also there’s soooo much speculation on how production just totally fell apart bc the showrunners actively hated their fan base and wanted to fuck everything up to spite them which genuinely. Like I get it but also. Damn

shiro, after reconciling with adam and everything slows down for a bit, pulls lance aside
shiro: so me and adam dated for a long time
lance: yeah
shiro: and I've had this question ever since I met his family
lance: okay
shiro: what does "de verdad" mean
lance:
shiro, recalling countless incidents of adam's family saying it during tense moments: is it a bad word?
lance, torn between doing shiro a solid and explaining it's just means "for real" or being a little shit:

Voltron S8 - ????
Okay so this is just a rant I had to put out because I’m !!! about it.
First of all, I see so much negativity about vld right now - some of which is deserved and some I don’t think is. This season was beautiful - the scenes, main plot, the music, the acting - amazing.
Something that I’ve always loved the show for was it’s subtlety. Most other shows put in POC or LGBT characters in for the views and to be “PC”, while making several comments and hints throughout to make sure you understand that “look we’ve got representation! look we did what you want!” To me, representation has always been about portraying the things represented as normal parts of everyday life. Not making sure everyone understands they’re gay or making black/Hispanic/Asian jokes or comments so you understand they’re POC. It’s always just...been there. Shiro is Japanese, Lance is Latino, Pidge, Hunk, and Keith are American (/part Galra), as well as mixed alien races, too. Looking at the garrison and the crew of the Atlas, I was astounded at the unusual (in TV shows) mix of different people of colour who were featured characters, and yet I didn’t feel like it was being slammed into my face. To me, Shiro being gay but not saying anything about it made sense, because to walk around during times of war saying “hey I’m gay” didn’t make sense. All the paladins from the garrison will have already known since Adam was a teacher, as was Shiro. Their engagement would have been known to everyone. (but hey we could have done with a ring).
That’s what I loved so much about Shiro’s ending. They showed him moving on, actually showing the scene of the wedding and a kiss even though it wasn’t really expected (or necessary, it could have just been a still shot like the others). I was actually a little disappointed to find out he’d married a guy who had been in the crew all along and we never got any hints - but then again I don’t think they were together in the year later sequence, so romance was a long time away from our last scene of them.
Lance....my poor boy. No ending arch. No character development. No star quality ending like he deserved. He was the sharp shooter. And you’re telling me he just...farmed? He left the red lion and his now half Altean heritage and went back to earth and grew flowers? Allura’s flowers? Literally everything in his life was devoted to Allura even after her death. And Allura only showed her love for him once - right before she died.
The truth is, the writers had a very easy choice if they wanted A//urance to become canon: make it happen, kill off Allura, and then give him a new purpose and someone new (Keith, cough cough), or keep Allura alive and let them live out their days together (hopefully actually in Altea). Coran rebuilt Altea, Pidge made robots with Matt, Hunk cooked his way through diplomacy meetings and Shiro was part of the coalition. Not to mention Keith - who did so much for the Galra. And they made the sharp shooter a farmer?!
That’s not even taking into account the blatant queer baiting. Lance was supposed to get someone to choose him first - and he’d already chosen Allura first, so that didn’t make sense, right? Plus, Allura had fallen for Lotor already. Lance was supposed to have a slow burn relationship - that lasted a season. Lance was supposed to have moments with someone he hadn’t had moments with in season seven - and he’d had plenty of moments with Allura. Everything the cast and directors said about Lance turned out to be a lie. They gave Klance cinematic parallels to other couples in the show, bonding throughout the seasons, a truly romantic moment in the first episode of season eight, and they didn’t even hint towards it happening in the future?? Lance could have worked with Keith, strengthening the alliance between the Galra and the Alteans. But he farmed. On earth. Even though Keith had been the one he turned to - was comforted by - when Allura rejected him and pushed him away for Lotor.
After everything, I held onto hope - because they’d said we should make sure to watch till the end. This is it, I thought. This is where they even make some kind of skit scene that hints towards Klance (or any future relationship for Lance tbh). But...it was Allura. Again.
I didn’t mind Allura’s death - but I thought she should have gotten some kind of reward for the terrible life she’d had to live through so far. If they had given her and Lance a proper relationship, rather than a two kisses, a tiny bit of cuddling, and a few mentions, then maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad - she had gotten love and a family. But she didn’t. She just...died.
Subtlety is great - but not when you don’t even say it. Shiro and Adam were subtlety. Shiro and his new husband were subtlety. But only putting Lance in a picture with an LGBT card and then possibly pulling a JK Rowling in the future and saying “oh well he was gay, we just never said” is not representation. That’s pulling it out of the bag because you want to look good.
Another problem - if they could show Shiro getting married and kissing another man...why couldn’t they make Ezor and Zethrid even say they were together? Or Veronica and Acxa, who obviously had chemistry?
There were also no moments between Shiro and Keith?
Honestly, the season was beautiful and I enjoyed it very much, but it was really Lance that did it in for me. I really liked the Honerva backstory, and the episode that followed Kinkade so much.
In the end, I feel like they’re going to drop season nine on us. Or else...they screwed up the end of an amazing show.

Quick thoughts on s7 and then I'm not discussing it again (I'm still keeping this blog discourse-free)
I don't hate it as much as other fans seem to, but there are definitely a lot of aspects I didn't like.
I enjoyed the flashbacks, I liked the feud episode (despite how Lance was treated), I liked the cadets, I liked that Iverson became a better person, I liked Veronica, the action scenes were beautifully animated, and the last two episodes kept me on my toes.
But there was a LOT of boring shit this season. A lot of the time spent on Earth was incredibly boring and I found myself spacing out more than once (a first for me with Voltron). Too much talking -- and not character-building talking, which I like, but endless conversations about the intricacies of their battle strategies and science and space magic and politics and it should have been interesting but it really wasn't.
The romance was poorly-handled. The creators say they won't do Lance and Allura bad by shoving them into a relationship right after the Lotor thing but here they are, doing just that out of buttfucking nowhere. I don't know what to make of Acxa -- on one hand, it kinda seemed like she was a sudden love interest for Keith, but she was in the season for such a short amount of time (like 1 episode) that I'm doubting that. I'm more wondering if that theory of Acxa and Keith being related is actually going to come to fruition. Probably not, but the Acxa/Keith interactions didn't scream "ROMANCE" to me. I DO like Zethrid/Ezor, however, and liked seeing their humanity (despite not being human) in their affections for one another despite what side they're on.
I didn't like how Lance was treated, like most people. Like, just imagine being a Hispanic kid who finally sees someone like themselves in a cartoon show... only for said cartoon show to basically say that their Hispanic rep is a dumbshit repeatedly. They deserve better.
I hated that Adam was killed off. I thought the Bury Your Gays trope had died but apparently not.
And both of these things... honestly, I just feel so hurt. I trusted this show and its creators to do right by us in the regard of racial and LGBT+ representation and the fact that they've stooped this low -- making the Hispanic guy the butt monkey and calling him stupid at every opportunity, and killing off one of the only LGBT+ characters for drama and ensuring that the LGBT+ characters don't get a great ending -- is just hurtful and painful. It makes me want to be a cartoonist even more so that I can create cartoon shows with racial/LGBT+ rep and give LGBT+/non-white kids everywhere the representation they need and deserve.
No, I am not going to call Lauran and JDS cishets because that's assuming that they're not LGBT+ in some way. As far as I know, neither of them have confirmed their own sexualities and I don't think it's right to assume in an attempt to attack their character because you don't like how the show was written. I get being upset and pissed and hurt because I am too, but don't be dicks about it. Blame the bad writing on the basis of it just being bad writing instead of bringing in their personal lives to attack them as people. Most of us are old enough to be mature about this.
(also for the record, I do not see cishet as being a bad thing because it isn't, but I definitely get why people would be upset about someone who isn't LGBT+ writing LGBT+ characters and doing so poorly -- no excuse to use that as an attack against the creators/writers, though)
For anyone still wondering, yes, I do still have faith in Klance. Before you jump my ass and say it's just wishful thinking on my part, that I'm delusional, etc etc, let me say that I do not think a few A//urance scenes debunks ALL of the development Klance got. Klance's development has been a consistent tide throughout the show, and y'know what? That continued in s7. We saw how inherently and wholeheartedly Keith trusts Lance, we saw how much Keith has come to mean to Lance (seriously, compare s1 to him talking about Keith in s7e04 -- he called Keith THE FUTURE ffs), and Lance finally started giving Keith the fond looks that we're used to Keith giving Lance.
One of the things that REALLY keeps me going? JDS saying that shipping Klance is just following the natural progression of their relationship. I know they've lied to us before, but this would be intentionally cruel of him to lie about (considering the lack of LGBT+ rep and the fanbase being almost entirely LGBT+), so I am choosing to trust him. That and the fact that their "Inspiration Wall" at DW has only 2 ships on it: Hunay (which is basically canon) and Klance.
So how do I think Klance will somehow come out of this in just 13 more episodes? Easy: Voltron is Asspull Central. Through the magic of asspulls, anything is possible.

Matt put down his phone and continued ranting, this time about just everything in general, and Shiro rolled his eyes and pulled a Pepsi out of his backpack. He'd need a lot of caffeine to listen to this. As he chugged it, he could see a head of silky black hair out of the corner of his eye, and Shiro promptly choked on his soda. Matt turned to stare at him, his amber eyes blinking rapidly. "Shiro? What the hell-?"
Then Matt saw Keith and snorted. "Oooh, gayness strikes again. Don't suffocate."
"Shut up," Shiro shot back between coughs.
Once Shiro could speak (he could still feel something lodged in his throat, but he could breathe) he looked up to see Matt barely suppressing laughter and a very concerned looking Keith staring at him.
Keith had his dark, silky hair pulled back into a higher ponytail than usual, and his bangs were just barely neat enough for Keith to see. His dusky eyes were wide with confusion, and his lean hands were shoved into his skinny jean pockets. Did Shiro say skinny jeans? He meant skin tight black jeans paired with ankle-high combat boots and a NASA tee shirt. It was so casual, but Keith rocked the look, and Shiro could feel his face burning.
Written by me, so shameless self promo time!

You're now married to each of the Paladins. How would the fandom react to that?
Shiro: Woof, RIP me, I’d get hate and death threats from all sides, especially from the people who are adamant that Shiro can only be gay, no multisexuality here thanks, and half the fandom would be in an uproar over his queerness being erased. I love you Shiro but it just wasn’t meant to be :’(
Keith: Man wouldn’t it be fun to be hated by both Klantis and Sheithens? That sounds like fun. They’d threaten my life and then torch my house like Asuna did Lisbeth.
Lance: The Klantis are back and they’re trying to break down my door. Our relationship isn’t diverse enough so it’s Bad, since we’re both Hispanic and Basic m/f. The Allurance shippers are hella disappointed but overall chill.
Hunk: Hunay and Hidge shippers are a bit upset but overall they’re just happy Hunk’s gettin’ some love :3 We live happily ever after and are hella shipped by the fandom.
Pidge: And I get burned at the stake again because “pEdOpHiLiA”. The writers are called Pedophilia Apologists or whatever tf and antis are even more against Voltron than they were before, if even possible. The reasonable parts of the fandom realize that Pidge is Not Eternally Fourteen and are happy because yay! Pidge is canon queer!
Allura: Honestly would probably be The Most Shipped out of all of these. Allurance shippers are sad, but queer Allura yay! Canon wlw yay! Allura is out of the way of Klance yay! That kinda stuff.
Let’s be real though the true answer to all of this is just Polydins + Kali, hell yeah I’m ready for it ;)
