Just some cute fluff. Eugene • Jake • Hudson

🝮 He enjoys the feeling of your fingers intertwined.
🝮 He has a habit of folding his hands behind his back. It’s either that or resting them together on a table.
🝮 It’s a comfortable position for him. He never realized it felt even better to hold some else’s hand.
🝮 The warm tingle when your fingers brushed into his palm was something he looked forward to.
🝮 Never in public. Always in private.
🝮 Sitting down with you after a long day, resting his eyes, cradling your hands with his
🝮 That’s an ideal situation for Eugene. He couldn’t ask for much more.
🝮 He enjoys holding your hand up to his cheek, letting you caress his face. Sneaking small kisses against your fingers. Never letting go of your hand.
🝮 You’re probably the only one that can tell… but it doesn’t change the fact that Eugene is down bad for you. It also doesn’t change the fact that he’s touch starved in a way and hates to admit it… but holding your hand is the tiny amount of contact that he tolerates and enjoys-

🝮 Now as willing to hug and kiss all the time is Jake is, sometimes he just likes to keep it simple.
🝮 It’s romantic to him. Holding your hand.
🝮 Your hands slip into each others so easily, it’s almost like they’re puzzle pieces.
🝮 He gets tingles whenever your fingers lace together. For all his talk, Jake is pretty inexperienced when it comes to romantic relationships.
🝮 He reaches out to pull you closer, bringing you to his side as you walk down the street. Arms brushing against each other, hands pressed together.
🝮 Not all the time, but sometimes. He’s not overly affectionate of course. He’ll initiate hand-holding on walks… during dinner…
🝮 Hold hands as he kisses you senseless. Interlock fingers as your free hand digs through his hair. Hold hands as he presses his body against yours and molds his lips with yours.
🝮 Yeah… Jake likes to hold hands.

🝮 His knuckles are rough and withered as sand paper, to be frank.
🝮 He’s even cut his niece’s forehead before… trying to sweep some of her bangs out of her eyes. His skin is coarse… he’s aware.
🝮 He doesn’t know why you enjoy holding his hands so much.
🝮 You grab them during the cold, weaseling your icy fingertips into his warm palm. He brushes it off.
🝮 You grab his hand while you’re studying. It’s a little odd. He tries to ignore it.
🝮 When you begin holding his hand at random he finds it really unusual. You don’t actually like it… do you? The rough feel of his knuckles and palms. Even his fingertips are comparable to sandpaper.
🝮 You kiss his knuckles, dragging your lips over his coarse skin. He wants to flinch, but doesn’t. He wants to look away from you, but he doesn’t.
🝮 Holding hands with you is really nice…

moon river, miles morales x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: earth 42! miles morales x spider!reader
synopsis: you clean out miles’ room taking anything you could with you. you stumbled across a picture of the two of you when you were younger and your heart filled with rage
wc: 2.7k
warnings!: swearing, violence, slight gory details
nia’s ౨ৎ notes: the end! this story idea came to me when i was non stop day dreaming and creating scenarios in my head so i decided to just write it down. i love it actually
prev ♱
it's been three days since miles' funeral and you've spent the nights wrapped up in his bed surrounded by things that were his.
during the day you've been visiting may to upgrade your suit and also help you learn how to use some new gadgets. you didn't tell her why you needed the suit upgrade or updated spider shooters that made your webs stronger, but she obliged. you were hurting about miles, bad. you had been skipping school to sneak into his bedroom.
you were currently in miles' bed in the purple hoodie he always wore, your teddy bear and his favorite hello kitty plushie of yours in hand. you had tears running down your cheeks as you looked through the videos and pictures you'd taken together. suddenly, his mom knocked and came into the room "ohh cariño, i miss him too." she said sitting next to you, rubbing your back.
"tell you what? how about you take some of his things? keep them for yourself?" she offered. you furrowed your eyebrows "but won't you want anything to keep?" "ahh no te preocupes por eso cariño, i already ran through here, you should see my room" she chuckled. "are you sure?" you asked, wiping your tears. "i'm sure." she smiled placing a hand on your knee.
you left her house with a garbage bag full of his things. clothes, cologne, the pictures he kept around his room of the two of you, you searched thoroughly around his room for any more of his prowler gear to take, you even got the secret stuffed rabbit he hid under his bed.
when you got home and in your room, you began putting his things all around your room. you sat on on the bed, hot tears stinging your eyes as you stared at a polaroid your mom took of you and miles when you were 10. he was on your back, an arm wrapped around your neck other hand holding an ice cream. you had one in your hand and you both had the biggest smiles on your face, in the middle of laughing.
your heart twisted with anger, the love of your life was taken from you. thanks to that oversized fucker, and you weren't just gonna let him get away with it.
you got up and opened the faulty ceiling tile in your bathroom, grabbing the prowler glove and shoving it in your bookbag along with your updated spider suit and shooters. you crawled out of your window and swung in the direction of a bus station.
you knew the lab that kingpin was rumored to frequent alot, having gone there for a field trip with your class. so you decided to start there, taking a bus to save your energy. when you got to hudson valley you moved up into the mountains using binoculars to stake out the place. you saw the familiar black bmw that kingpin would drive around in.
your blood was boiling, holding back tears as you quickly got dressed in your spider suit. the upgraded suit had relatively the same design but now the spider logo legs sprawled down across your body, your new web shooters strengthened your webs, and the best part about your new suit was that it could turn invisible - camouflage.
you grabbed the prowler glove and shoved it into seemingly nowhere, thank god for hammerspace.
you made your self invisible and crawled all around the walls of alchemax looking for a way to sneak in. you found a vent at the top and crawled through using your senses to find kingpin.
you heard his gravelly voice and peeked through the cracks of the vent. he was talking to some woman about some collider? "olivia i don't care! just go ahead with that damn project!" he shouted at the lady.
you tried to move down closer to the vent but instead you pressed to hard on it and it fell down. pin and olivia shot their heads in the direction of you hitting the ground, knocking some things off a table.
the woman grabbed some goggles from her table and looked around, spotting you on the floor. "ah we got little spider-girl here" she giggled. suddenly four octopus like machines appeared from her back. "you know i've always wanted to meet you, your powers are so interesting to me." she shot a mechanical arm at you, letting it squeeze around your body.
"i'm not here to fight you you damn squid" you scoffed, wriggling your way out it. you shot webs at her feet making her fall on her back. she recovered quickly, throwing you against the wall with one of her arms. "octopus, actually" she corrected you. you got up and tried turning invisible to sneak away but she caught you "might as well save that, i can see you" she chuckled going to grab you again. you quickly moved your hands out in front of you grabbing the tentacle, breaking it.
she growled and you swung out of her reach, jumping back down to throw her to the floor, her glasses fell off and you stomped at them breaking them. another arm shot at you, roughly throwing you down to the ground. you groaned before snapping back to the reality of the situation.
you looked around for a second now realizing that kingpin was no longer in the room. you swung through the doors of the building looking for any sign of that oaf. the alarms in the building were now going off, workers running out of the building. every now and then some worker would try to fight you, you quickly beating them down.
you snuck into the doors of the collider room, mouth agape at what you saw. olivia burst in the room behind you, throwing you down onto a desk. "olivia take care of that damn insect!" you heard kingpin say from the front of the room. "what's it look like i'm doing?!" she yelled out, giving you another blow.
when a tentacle was thrown at you, you grabbed it and then grabbed the other one she threw at you. you pulled her up into the air before throwing into a wall. you grabbed a nearby pipe and blow after blow you beat olivia with it. you reached down pulling her head up by her hair "i said i wasn't here to fight you" you growled throwing her head back down to the floor.
"yo pin, come on man you can't fight your own fucking battles or what?!" you screamed out, jumping at him, throwing a blow to his head. he grabbed you and slammed you down “i killed one spider, i can do it again” he whispered, throwing a punch to your face.
you sneakily grabbed the prowler glove, putting it on. you shot an air blast to his chest that threw him across the room. “took prowler’s little toy huh?” he coughed. you got up and swung the claws through his chest opening the wound he previously had, making him scream out. you shot explosives out of the glove directly at pin, one missing as it hit the wall instead. the room began to shake as pipes began to burst.
you didn't notice him grab his gun, shooting at your arm and your stomach somehow catching the same spot he stabbed a week ago. you cried out, the wound beginning to secrete blood, he was about to shoot again, aiming for your head but you flipped out of the way.
fueled by adrenaline, you growled throwing webs at his feet hanging him upside down before throwing him up against the glass. you jumped on him, legs wrapped around his neck, hitting him with the sharp knuckles of the glove. he wailed out as blood began rushing from his nose and his cheek. you shot another web, wrapping around his back swinging back down onto his back making him gag. you jumped on top of him, sinking the prowler claws into his chest making him wail out. you kept sinking it deeper and deeper inside him, twisting it like he had done to you. the brick of the roof began to crumble, rubble falling all around you
“i am going to watch you suffer and die just like you made me watch miles.” you growled, venom laced your voice. you got up quickly to grab a piece of rubble that was falling from the walls, lifting it into the air. “i am going to beat you bloody” just then some glowing orange and purple portal opened next to you and three people jumped out in spider suits.
“oy you cant kill ‘im mate” the tall one said running over to pull you off. “what who the fuck are you, let me go!” you screamed out trying to pull away from his grip. the other two people began tying pin up with their webs, hanging him in a spiderweb on the ceiling. “the police are coming and you can’t be seen here.” a feminine voice said from under the mask. “you gotta come with us” the other spoke, moving closer to the portal.
“you expect me to go in some fucking portal with three random cunts that just popped out of it.” you spat backing away from them. “listen we can explain on the way. either you stay here and get caught up with the police or you come where we can help you” the girl said, pointing to the blood that stained your suit. you thought about it for a minute before stepping into the portal after the three of them jumped in. the portal dropped you in some elevator that was going upside down. you looked out and saw what looked like a futuristic new york, flying cars, futurist buildings.
the three of them tugged off their masks. the tall one was revealed to be dark skin, piercings littered his dark skin. the other one had the side of her blonde head shaved, piercing on her eyebrow.
your heart felt like it stopped when the third one took his off. you saw familiar brown eyes staring back at you, gorgeous brown skin you haven’t seen in a week, the only difference was his air that was out in a curly afro. “miles?” you whispered, tears stinging your eyes. you fought to hold them back, not ready to cry in front of these people. it hit you like a train seeing that face. “yeah. b-but i’m not your miles.” he said, looking down. your eyebrows furrowed wondering what the hell that meant.
“we’ll explain everything when we get to miguel.” the girl said. “i’m gwen by the way.” she told you. “hobie” the tall one spoke reaching out a hand to dap you up. “i’m assuming you already know mine?” you asked to which they nodded.
the elevator doors opened and you saw an array of people scattered all across the building, all dressed in different spider suits. some walking right side up, some upside down, some on the walls. there were so many, you couldn’t even count. there was even a cat!
“welcome to spider society” miles said to you. “miguel actually started this whole thing two years ago after me and miles messed up the multiverse or whatever. all of these people are all spider-man, each belonging to their own universe. i’m from earth 65, hobie’s from 138, miles is from 1610, and you’re from 42” gwen explained to you leading the way to wherever she was taking you.
you groaned, injuries becoming apparent to you again. you tripped a bit before miles caught you “yeah we gotta get you to the infirmary” he said.
after about 10 minutes in the infirmary, you were bandaged and taken care of. gwen, hobie, and miles stayed outside to wait for you before taking you on a short tour throughout the building, and then to some dark and gloomy office.
a man, who you knew to be miguel was standing on a floating platform, it descending as slow as it possibly could. “is he?-“ “uh yeah just let him do his thing” miles chuckled.
the man came down off the platform, muscular body clad in a blue and orange spider suit. “what am i doing here?” you spoke up. he looked at you before turning away “you are here because you’ve proved yourself to be spider-girl.” he told you.
“LYLA, do the information explaining thing” he said, a small hologram appearing by his shoulders. “there are these things called cannon events and every cannon event is what holds the spider-verse together. it’s what makes spidermen, spidermen.” he said, going on to show and tell you about how every single one of them lost a loved one. you watched holograms appear of multiple spider people kneeling over a dying relative, last one ending with you kneeling over miles. he told you about his dead daughter and how he tried to redo everything by placing himself in another universe.
“we track cannon events using high technology, making sure everything is in order.” he said, making you furrow your eyebrows. “wait so you know when these things are gonna happen? when these people are gonna die? did you know that miles was gonna die?” you asked, fists clenching. miguel turned his head to the side, sorrowful expression on his face and nod his head.
“wait so you knew he was gonna die and you didn’t do anything?” you said, growing angry. “we couldn’t do anything, it was a cannon event, it was supposed to happen-“ you interrupted him “oh so you couldn’t do shit when miles was dying but when i attack kingpin now you wanna send your fucking people to stop me.” you spat. “that’s not how it works-“ he tried to explain, but you wouldn’t let him.
“nah you picking and choosing who gets to die because of some fucking code” you spat, the hologram on his shoulder getting upset. “you get to sit up here on your slow ass platform and play god? who put you in charge.” you growled, beginning to walk away. “listen, i created this to protect the multiverse, i am and have been protecting every world. i don’t play god, i keep things in order because if they’re not, worlds could begin falling apart. i brought you here because you are a good spider-man and we could use someone like you on the force” he explained.
“whatever, send me home.” you whispered. “listen” another voice interrupted miguel. “wait, listen just stick around for a day. if you really want to go home and never be apart of this, then we’ll send you home when the day’s over.” miles said resting a hand on your shoulder.
you agreed and the four of you were dismissed from miguel’s office until further notice. they were about to show you around when an older looking peter parker with a pink robe and a baby in his carrier walked up to you. “hey guys” he exclaimed, wrapping an arm around miles. the baby in his carrier shot a web at you and began crawling around your shoulders. “ah you must be y/n! you gonna join this little club?” he asked you. “not yet.” miles answered for you, giving you a small smile.
they showed you around, jumping through different universes to show you around. you visited their friend, pav’s, universe in mumbattan and hung around there for a while.
after about an hour, gwen and hobie had to report back to their own universes to deal with whatever crimes were happening there. leaving you and miles alone.
“hey, um you know i really think you should join” he said, arms awkwardly behind his back. “i saw the way you held your own there with kingpin and doc ock. you’re really good at what we do.” he complimented. “thanks” you mumbled smiling at him. “listen i know you have your doubts about this place, believe me i had them to at first. when i showed up here, uninvited by the way, miguel told me my dad was gonna die and i couldn’t just sit around and do nothing. so i forced my way back home and i ended up proving him wrong, but then again i am some sort of original anamoly so my universe kind of fixes itself.” he told you.
“i think you should stick around, these watches are pretty cool, you could literally go anywhere” he said, geeky smile on his face. “plus it’d be nice to have a new friend around here, you and me are a lot alike” he told you. “well for one we both got that whole invisible thing going on” he showed you, making himself fully invisible. “and who knows what other powers you could have if you stayed here and trained with us and grow as spider-girl!” he exclaimed.
“yeah, i guess you’re right” you whispered. “so you in?” he asked, hoping smile on his face as he extended his arm out to you. you thought before making your decision “i’m in.” you smiled, taking his hand.

A chorus of high pitched, excited squeals erupted from across the room, the noise so loud it masked the sound of conversation and Christmas music that had been present only moments ago. Beside you, Matt winced.
"It's Santa!" one of your cousin's little girls exclaimed, pressing her face to the window.
You leaned over towards Matt, wrapping an arm around his back. "The shrieking will stop soon," you whispered. "Sorry. They get really excited every year when my Uncle Jeff is out front pretending to be Santa."
Another round of excited noises erupted–laughter and giggling from the handful of young girls at the window. Even Hudson, still dressed as a dinosaur, was excitedly watching your uncle outside in the foot of snow.
"It's okay," Matt whispered back. "It's sweet, I just wasn't expecting such a…high frequency."
You laughed lightly, shaking your head. "Yes, well, that sort of comes with having a house filled with young, excited girls. Poor Hudson is outnumbered, though I think he's too young to care yet."
"He will care when he's older," your brother Nate said, appearing on the other side of Matt. "I know I wished I'd had a brother growing up. Being the middle child with two sisters sucked."
You leaned past Matt, raising a brow at him. "Really? Because you and Amber tormented me," you pointed out.
Nate laughed, nodding his head. One of his arms nudged Matt’s as he leaned in towards him. "We definitely did. You know, there was this one time," he began, shooting you a teasing smile, "where we convinced her to jump into this pile of leaves we made.”
You rolled your eyes, immediately knowing where this story was going. Matt, intrigued, turned towards your brother as he listened intently.
“She had no idea we’d been slowly digging a hole in the same spot for a week,” Nate continued excitedly, spurred on by the growing smile on Matt’s face. “So eventually Amber and I got it like two feet deep, right? And we raked up a pile of leaves one day to have your girl jump in–”
“Oh, Nate,” your mother said, pausing mid-stride as she overheard the story your brother was telling, “must you tell Matthew about how you tormented your sister as children?”
“Must you continue to break out that sweater for every Christmas Eve?” he countered.
Georgia glanced down at the front of her sweater, eyeing the gold tinsel and pom poms attached to it. In large, glittery print it said ‘On The Nice List’. You’d seen her wear it every Christmas Eve for the past few years. It was quite obnoxious and at least one of you managed to point it out to her every year.
“What’s wrong with my sweater?” she questioned him. “It’s festive.”
“It’s so bright and loud they can see it from the International Space Station,” Nate teased her.
Georgia narrowed her eyes at Nate, but you noticed the upward twitch of her lips. “Well it’s certainly a lot more appropriate than yours. Honestly, Nate, there’s children here.”
“I feel like I’m missing something here,” Matt murmured beside you.
You leaned in, whispering, “He's wearing a sweater with Santa on it talking about ho’s.”
Matt nodded knowingly, a smile spreading on his mouth. “Ahh, I understand. Your brother is certainly interesting.”
“That’s one way of putting it,” you agreed quietly.
Georgia rolled her eyes at your brother as she continued on her way, no doubt looking for your father. Nate turned back towards the pair of you, that mischievous glint still in his eyes.
“So, as I was saying,” he continued as if he hadn’t been interrupted, “we convinced her to jump into the pile of leaves. And so she does–” he paused, cracking up, “–and totally falls into the hole.”
“Yeah, and I sprained my ankle,” you shot back, Matt grinning as he silently listened to your sibling banter. “I had to use crutches for a week because of you two!”
Nate cupped a hand over his mouth, leaning towards Matt. “Don’t feel sorry for her. She threw our toothbrushes in the toilet,” he whispered.
Matt laughed, shooting you a smile. “Somehow I find myself wishing I could have experienced growing up with a sibling. Though I’m pretty sure I’d have been the one doing the tormenting,” he said.
“And somehow I believe that,” you teased him.
You felt something wrapping around your shoulders and your head turned, spotting your sister standing beside you with a beer in hand. Her attention was on Matt, a large smile on her face.
“You know,” Amber said, “if you play your cards right Murdock, you might gain a couple of siblings. And then you could join us in tormenting our sweet sister.”
You didn’t miss the warm smile that lit up Matt’s face at your sister’s words. There was an anxious, excited feeling that squirmed in your own stomach at the implication and the fact that her and Nate had so willingly accepted Matt into your tight-knit bond. Between Thanksgiving and their time with Matt this evening, you could see how well they all got along and it filled you with so much joy watching Matt joke back and forth with your siblings.
“I suppose only time will tell, but,” Matt told your sister, a cheeky grin on his mouth, “I’m pretty sure I’d be siding with her in the pranks, not playing them on her.”
You felt your cheeks flush at Matt’s words, Amber shooting you a curious brow. On Matt’s other side, Nate was smiling devilishly.
“That sounds like a challenge, Matt,” Nate teased. “I’m pretty sure we’re the ones you want on your team for pranks, not baby sis here. She’s not creative enough.”
“You mean I’m not as much of a dick,” you corrected, both of your siblings laughing.
“Ahh well, that may be true,” Matt acknowledged, “but I’m pretty sure I’m someone you’d want on your side when it comes to pranks.”
He shot your siblings an absolutely devastatingly handsome smile and you were instantly biting your lip, fighting back a laugh. Because what they didn’t know was that this man was a literal superhero ninja.
Before either could respond, Hudson appeared beside Amber’s side, wrapping his arms around her leg and hugging it. His appearance caught everyone's attention almost immediately.
“Mama, can I play with Uncle Matt?” he asked, his voice small and his eyes wide.
“Huds,” Amber said with a sigh, “we’ve been over this. You can’t keep calling him Uncle Matt, okay?”
“I don’t really mind,” Matt admitted.
You didn’t miss the way Nate’s head tilted curiously to the side at Matt’s admission, or the sly grin that swept across his mouth. Quickly you mouthed ‘shut up’ to him, hoping Matt didn’t quite notice. From beside Amber, Hudson shifted his big, pleading eyes towards Matt. Even blind you were sure Matt could feel the effect of those adorable little puppy eyes.
“Uncle Matt,” he continued, causing Amber to shake her head and roll her eyes, “can I show you my new dinosaurs?”
“Huds, I don’t think Matt wants to look at your dinosaur toys right now,” Amber tried to tell him gently. “Why don’t you show the girls your dinosaurs?”
Hudson pouted, his lower lip pushing out as his gaze dropped to the ground. You were pretty sure the dinosaur costume he was wearing was adding to the effect, and Matt was fortunate not to be able to fully witness the pouting of a three year old dinosaur.
“They said dinosaurs are dumb,” Hudson muttered.
Instantly your eyes narrowed; you were quite protective over Hudson. He was often shy and only opened up to a few people and it took him a while to open up to other kids. And while you loved the other children in your family, you quite easily favored him. And you weren’t a fan of him getting his feelings hurt. But before you could get a word out as you opened your mouth, Matt was already speaking.
“You know,” he began, “I think dinosaurs are pretty cool. My best friend actually has quite a few on his desk at work.”
“Really?” Hudson asked, a smile returning to his face.
“Really,” Matt agreed. “I’m quite jealous of his collection actually.”
“Do you want to see mine?” he asked excitedly. “I got new ones to show you!”
Matt grinned, holding out a hand in Hudson’s direction. “I’d love to see them. Why don’t you show me where they are?” he asked.
The moment Hudson’s little hand grabbed Matt’s, you were pretty sure you died inside. Even Amber was smiling as she watched Hudson drag Matt along in an excited rush. When they disappeared, both of your siblings were shooting you matching knowing looks that caused you to flush.
“I should probably make sure he doesn’t run Matt into anyone,” you mumbled, ducking away from the pair of them.
You weaved your way past family, heading towards where you'd seen Hudson playing earlier in your parents' house. You finally caught up to Matt and Hudson sitting on the floor in the front sitting room. You smiled as you passed your grandmother who was chatting with a couple of your aunts on the couches, and you swore you heard your grandma once again saying something about how charming Matt was as you passed.
As you neared where Hudson and Matt were sitting cross legged on the floor, you saw Hudson dumping dinosaurs out of his dinosaur backpack. And then you overheard what they were saying and immediately came to a stop just behind the pair of them.
“...she looks real pretty tonight,” Hudson was telling Matt.
“I bet she does,” Matt replied, a smile apparent in his voice. “Can you describe her for me, though? Since I can't quite see how she looks tonight?”
Both of their backs were to you, but you knew Matt was aware of you standing there. A blush was creeping up your cheeks, a small smile on your face.
“She’s in a red sweater,” Hudson said, organizing his pile of dinosaurs. “And her hair looks nice. Really shiny. And she put on pretty makeup. And she’s always got a pretty smile.” He leaned in towards Matt, his little dinosaur hood still pulled up over his head as he failed at attempting to whisper, “She’s my favorite aunt.”
There was a charming grin on Matt’s face as he turned, leaning in towards Hudson and whispering intentionally loud enough for you to hear, “She’s my favorite, too.”
You bit your lip, walking around the pair of them and sitting down around the pile of dinosaurs. “And what are you two up to?” you asked, cheeks still red.
“Just discussing dinosaurs,” Matt said innocently, shooting you a charming smile as he held up a stegosaurus.
_________
Your eyes were focused on Matt chatting animatedly with your father across the room, beers in hand. There was a smile plastered on your face as you watched them laughing good-naturedly with each other, clearly cracking jokes. Matt looked like he was genuinely enjoying the conversation and it made your heart swell in your chest at the sight.
"So what exactly is going on with you and him?" Amber asked, following your gaze.
"What do you mean?" you asked, glancing at her beside you.
She sighed audibly, rolling her eyes. "You know damn well what I mean," she shot back. "You've brought him to the family holidays now. Everyone loves him. He's also amazing with the kids, especially Huds." She gestured her beer at your dad and Matt still talking. "Dad loves him. Mom's already married you off in her mind. So," she asked again, "what exactly is going on?"
You shrugged lightly, glancing back at Matt across the room. His dark glasses were focused on you now and you could feel your heart speeding up under his covered gaze. You knew he was listening in to this conversation when he shot you a playful smirk. And that made you nervous.
"He asked me to move in with him," you told her, eyes darting away from Matt.
"Wow," Amber said, her brows shooting up onto her forehead. "And what'd you say? You've never lived with a boyfriend before."
Your eyes dropped down to the wine glass in your hands, swirling the liquid. "I said yes," you told her. "We're taking it slow, though. My lease isn't up for another couple of months so it's more like I'm gradually moving in with him."
Amber shifted beside you, turning to face you more fully. "So it's serious then?" she asked. "I mean it must be if you're moving in together and having him meet the family."
You couldn't quite tell her about his late night activities and how that may or may not affect the idea of marriage and children. So instead you answered, "I think so."
For a long moment your sister was silent, her gaze focusing back on Matt and your father still talking across the room. She brought her beer to her lips, taking a drink before she finally looked back at you.
"You love him," she said.
You nodded, smiling. "Yes," you admitted.
Her attention returned to Matt. “And it’s obvious the man loves you,” Amber continued. “That man may be blind but it’s like he always knows exactly where you are in a room.”
You fought down a laugh, biting your lip. You couldn’t quite tell her that he actually did know where you were in a room, either. “So what’s your big sister opinion?” you asked her, changing the subject.
“I like him,” she answered easily, bringing the beer back up to her lips for another drink. “He’s funny and he’s certainly charming–which I’d already heard plenty about the charming Matthew Murdock before I knew he was dating my little sister.” She shot you a wink and a sly smirk that soon turned into something more genuine a moment later. “But he makes you happy. I’ve never seen you be so…yourself around someone before. He’s sweet and I think he fits in well with us.” She leaned towards you with a grin as she whispered, “And if you don’t lock that down, I’m pretty sure grandma might be chasing after your man.”
A laugh flew out of you, Amber joining in a moment later. Your grandma did seem quite taken with Matt. Though he was fortunate your aunts and uncles were distracting her this evening; she’d only complimented him six times so far tonight. And Matt was still blushing when she did.
When you glanced back over to Matt, you noticed your mother had joined the conversation with the two. You groaned, pushing off the wall you’d been leaning against.
“Mom’s over there now,” you told Amber. “I should probably go rescue Matt before she starts asking if twins run in his genetics.”
“For your sake I hope it doesn’t,” Amber teased.
You rolled your eyes before making your way across the room, skirting around different groups of family gathered together chatting or kids playing. As you neared your parents talking with Matt, overhearing what they were talking about, you were glad you’d shown up when you had.
“Let’s maybe give the man a rest from discussing babies tonight, hmm?” your father was saying to your mother.
“Yeah mom,” you said, a smile on your face as you stood beside Matt, “I think you discussed that topic plenty at Thanksgiving.”
“I was just saying,” Georgia replied, waving a hand at Matt, “that he would have some great genes to pass on.”
You cringed, looping your arm through Matt’s. “And I think we’re going to pass on that topic. Let’s go get you another beer, Matt.”
Your mother rolled her eyes at you as you dragged Matt away. He followed beside you easily as you led him towards the kitchen, but when you were far enough from your parents you felt Matt lean towards you.
“So I hear you’re serious about me,” Matt teased, whispering into your ear.
“And I see you still eavesdrop on conversations,” you teased back. “Which is not really fair, considering I can’t eavesdrop on what you and my dad seemed to be having such a good time talking about.”
Shooting Matt a look beside you, you noticed he was grinning and chuckling lightly. Your eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"No I suppose you couldn't," he agreed. "But don't worry, sweetheart," he said, bumping your shoulder gently, "we had a good conversation. I like your dad."
"Well I'm pretty sure everyone likes you," you assured Matt as you continued to lead him to the kitchen.
"And apparently if you don't make a move on me," Matt teased, "your grandma is going to."
You couldn't stop the snort of laughter that came out of you at his joke. Matt shot you a goofy grin at the sound, his eyes crinkling at the corners behind his glasses.
"Keep it up and I might let her," you joked back.
Matt barked out a laugh as you both entered the kitchen, the sound bright and vibrant. You chanced a look at Matt beside you, your heart warming at the sight. He looked happy tonight, genuinely happy, and that filled you with so much happiness yourself that your heart felt like it could burst out of your chest.

Third Person Pov:
After the whole Teresa thing and moving to D.C., Marcus had tried so hard not to get into other relationships, but then he met y/n. It was only about three weeks after everything and he’d still been feeling heartbroken– but who wouldn’t when a relationship fails as bad as it did? He’d walked into work that morning and the day went as normal as usual, until later when he was getting ready to go home.
He remembers it like it was yesterday, when in reality it’s now been almost four years. He had just finished packing up his bag, getting ready to turn out the light on his desk as his phone went off. It was his boss asking for him to come to his office.
Marcus’ Pov: *Flashback*
“Marcus, would you please come to my office? I have something important to discuss with you,” my boss's voice floods over the phone and I sigh as I move my hand from the lamp to the phone.
“I’ll be right there, sir,” I promise him as I hold down the button that lets me reply to him before letting go.
I wait a moment to see if there’s any response, but it stays quiet. I grab my bag, switch off the light on my desk, and start to walk to my boss’s office.
I take the elevator to his floor, walk down a few halls, then start to walk up to the door and go to open it.
“Hold on, Marcus. Mr. Hudson is in a meeting,” Destiny, his secretary, stops me in my tracks.
“Oh really? He called me in to see him,” I tell her and she shakes her head, smiling at me.
“He did? He didn’t inform me. Hold on, let me page him and see,” she tells me. I nod and put my hands in my pockets.
“Mr. Hudson?” she questions as she presses the page button down.
“What is it, Destiny?” he responds and she looks back up at me.
“Marcus is here. I wasn’t too sure if you wanted me to send him in or not,” she replies and there’s a pause as she waits.
“Yes. Yes. Send him in,” he responds before we can hear him release the page button.
“Ok, Marcus, you heard him. Go right on in,” she tells me as she waves me off to the door.
“Ok. Thanks,” I reply before taking a step forward and opening the door.
I pop my head in and leave a little knock on the door. Mr. Hudson pauses as he looks away from someone who’s sitting in the right chair in front of his desk.
“Ahh, Marcus. Come in, come in. Take a seat,” he tells me as he motions to the left chair.
“Uhh, ok. Is there something wrong, sir?” I ask him and he shakes his head with a small smile.
“Nothing's wrong, my boy. I just wanted to introduce you to your new partner. She just landed half an hour ago and will be starting on with you tomorrow,” he informs and I nod, even though I’m very shocked.
“Y/n, this is Marcus, Marcus, this is y/n. Your new partner,” Mr. Hudson introduces us.
I am immediately in awe when I see the girl sitting beside me. She smiles and says something before holding her hand out to me. I shake out of my daze and give her a confused look.
“I’m sorry, what did you say?” I ask and she lets out a giggle that sounds heavenly to my ears, making it easily become my new favorite melody.
“I said, hi. I’m y/n,” she reiterates and I again shake my head.
“Right. I’m sorry, I’m Marcus. It’s nice to meet you. I’ve just had a really long day,” I reply as I reach out and shake her hand.
“It’s ok. Really, I get it,” she promises me with a soft smile that makes my hands feel a little clammy, but I ignore it and remember my pact I made with myself when moving here.
“Don’t take this as an insult,” I comment as I take a quick look at y/n and she shakes her head. “But sir, why do I need a partner? I thought we said I wouldn’t need to have one. That I’d be head of department,” I reiterate what we talked about before my move.
“We did, but I just thought that you have so much to do that it could possibly take some off of your back. Don’t worry you're still head, she’s just here to take a little pressure off,” he explains as he gestures to her and I shake my head in denial.
“There’s not too much for me to do,” I petulantly argue even when I know he’s right.
“Marcus, my boy… not to add insult to injury, but you look tired and overwhelmed. You’ve only been here three weeks and you’re already behind,” he explains, pausing to give me a quick questioning look.
“I’m not overwhelmed…” I again argue and he sighs, shaking his head.
“Look, Marcus. You are and I see that. This is your new partner and that’s final. She’s only here to help you. Came just to do that. Please let her help you,” he begs me and I sigh reluctantly.
“Ok. I guess,” I agree and Mr. Hudson grins.
“Great! She starts tomorrow morning. You’ll be sharing an office, so don’t be surprised if there’s an extra desk in there in the morning,” he adds on and I see y/n smile an award-winning smile.
“I’m excited to get started, sir. Thank you so much for the opportunity. I won’t let you down,” she promises him and I frown at the way she says it.
It’s almost like she’s making a point known as she says it and he just hums while nodding. She quickly goes to get up, but Mr. Hudson stops her by holding his hand out.
“Hold on, y/n, we’re not done here. Marcus, you can go,” he informs me and I nod before getting up.
“It was so nice to meet you, Marcus. I hope we can grow a good friendship,” she sweetly tells me and I can’t help but smile at her.
“It was nice meeting you too, y/n. Me too, you seem sweet. I’m sure we’ll get along great. See you tomorrow,” I reply warmly and she smiles up at me, making my stomach do flips. I quickly push the feeling aside as I so desperately try not to ruin the pact I made with myself after moving here.
~End of Flashback~
Marcus’ Pov:
I sit leaning back in my office chair as we work on the case we’ve been vigorously working on for almost a week. After being in the office for a few hours I can’t help but let my thoughts wander. I think over the last four years and I smile when y/n —who’s now my girlfriend— lets out a sigh while rubbing her face.
After she became my partner, it took a while for us to get to know one another —because I so obviously closed myself off after Teresa— but eventually y/n got me to open up, making us become closer and closer until finally I asked her out. She got me to open up in ways I never had before. I eventually told her all about Teresa and we both agreed to take things slowly. Never did I imagine this is where we’d be almost four years later.
“Knock, knock,” Ezra Bradford, our tech person, announces as she stands in the door frame. She pops her head in, breaking me out of my daze down memory lane.
“What’s up, Ez?” I ask as and y/n and I look up at her.
“We caught the money trail. We found them…” she tells us and I look at y/n, who looks at me in almost excitement.
“Well, where does it lead to?” Y/n asks and Ezra takes a hesitant pause.
“Well, that’s the thing. It leads back to Texas,” Ezra hesitantly tells us and y/n's excitement quickly fades away.
“Welp, I guess this means we’re going to Texas,” I point out with a shrug and y/n sighs.
“Ok. We’re going to Texas. Marc, do you wanna contact them? Or should I?” Y/n asks me and I shrug as I stand from my chair, stretching out a bit.
“Either way. Come on, I’ll drive,” I tell her as I reach forward and grab the keys off her desk.
She lazily stands up, looking like the epitome of tired and lets out an exhausted huff. I chuckle before pulling her into my side. We walk out of the room, coming to a stop just in the hall of the office we share before closing the door up and locking it. I then turn and pull y/n back into my side, swaying with her lightly as I look back at Ezra over y/n’s shoulder.
“You can tell the boss, yeah?” I ask Ezra, giving her a questioning look and she nods.
“Yeah. I’ll have him get the jet ready for you too,” Ezra agrees with a firm nod before pushing her glasses up.
“Can you send the presentation to me, please, Ezra?” Y/n asks her and Ezra nods in agreement again.
“Sleepy?” I ask as I look down at y/n, who’s now cuddled into my side and she nods tiredly as she lets out a very small yawn.
“It’s been a very long week,” she bemoans and I agree with a soft hum as I leave a kiss at her temple.
“Well, you can sleep on the plane,” I tell her and she nods again as she lets out a very quiet hum of agreement.
“Alright, we’ll hopefully see you in a few days, Ez,” I tell her as I look back up at her over y/n’s shoulder again and she nods.
“Go get the bad guys. I can send over whatever information you guys need to Texas’ tech guy. Just say the words and I’ll do it,” she promises and with that, she gives us a small goodbye and scurries off.
“I’ll contact Abbott right now,” Y/n comments, using her phone to send a message to Abbott as she continues to tiredly walk beside me.
We start down the first hall of many halls we have to go down to get to the car garage as I guide —more like pull— y/n with me. We walk a few more minutes before coming up to the parking garage, then walk the four rows of vehicles and find our SUV that we share. Her phone pings as I unlock the doors and she gets into her seat while looking at it.
“Abbott says they’ll be happy to help. He’ll inform the team and we can brief them when we get there,” she informs me and I nod as I start the car.
“Babe. You want your sunglasses?” she asks me as she holds them up and I turn with a smile at her as she gracefully smirks at me.
“You know me better than myself,” I tell her and she smiles, giggling softly and putting her head against the headrest. She gives me an endearing look that makes me grin back at her.
“Of course. I mean, we have been partners for almost four years now…” she jokingly rolls her eyes and I snicker at her.
“And you’ve been more then my partner since I met you,” I tell her with a soft look, crossing my features.
“Awe, Marc. That’s so sweet, babe. You’ve been so much more to me too. I love you,” she replies with a grin that makes my heart soar.
“I love you too, baby,” I parrot her softly as I lean across the center console and give her a peck on the lips.
“Go bags are in the back, right?” she asks me after I pull away and I nod as I finally take my sunglasses from her hand.
“Ok. Well, let’s get this show on the road then,” she says jokingly and I chuckle.
I shake my head as I turn and start the SUV. Once it’s up and running, I make quick work of pulling out of our spot before driving us out of the parking garage. I drive for a while before finally pulling up to the private FBI airport and park.
After parking, I look over at y/n to see that she’s asleep. I smile fondly before getting out of the car and going around to her side. I open her door and lightly rub her leg.
“Hmmm, Marc, don't wake me, not yet,” she whispers out and I chuckle, shaking my head.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart, but you have to. We have to get on the Jet, then you can go right back to sleep,” I tell her and she groans, shaking her head.
“Come on, honey. Just think of it. The faster you get on the plane, the faster we can try my favorite breakfast place in Texas. You know the one I’ve told you all about?” I bargain with her and she groans again.
“You mean the one with the awesome pancakes?” she asks softly and I nod.
“Yup. The one with all the different pancake flavors. I bet you’ll end up with the banana blueberry,” I exaggerate while bouncing my eyebrows at her.
Intrigued, she sits up and looks down at me, raising an eyebrow. I laugh and help her out of the car.
“Marcus Mario Pike, the hell is so funny?” she asks with a scowl that only makes me laugh a little harder.
“Nothing, honey. Nothing at all,” I tell her as I reach up and smooth out her hair for her.
“Awe, I had sleepy head again, didn’t I?” she asks with a pout as I pull my hand back with a soft smile crossing my face.
“Yes you did, but I find it rather cute,” I respond and she huffs, crossing her arms.
“Cute, my butt. Marcus, I am not cute when my hair is all frizzy and sticking up in the air,” she argues as I walk to the back of the SUV and open the trunk with her trailing after me.
“Oh, but sweetheart, that is where you are dead wrong,” I argue back as I pull our go bags out of the back before closing the trunk.
“I really don’t get how you see my half-dead asleep looks cute,” she snorts out in amusement and I smile as we both turn to start towards the jet.
“I find everything about you cute, sweetheart. Just accept that nothing about you is even remotely close to anything else in my eyes,” I tell her and she stops to  scoff, shaking her head as she crosses her arms.
“I will never understand you, Marcus,” she huffs and I smile, chuckling before pulling her into my side as I leave a kiss on the side of her forehead.
“Yes. But you love me and as you always point out, always will,” I joke with her as we start walking towards the jet now.
“Well, you got me there. I have no comeback for that one,” she admits and I burst out laughing as we finally come up to the jet.
“Sir. Ma’am,” the pilot smiles before stepping aside and gesturing to the open jet door.
“After you, ma’am,” he says with a flirty smile directed at y/n and I feel red hot anger take over, but shove it down.
“Thank you. Marc, baby, sit with me?” she asks as she turns to me and I smile.
“Of course, babe. I’ll always sit next to you,” I tell her and she grins, almost beaming as she pulls me into the jet.
She pulls me in and I put our go packs down as she picks a place to sit before pulling me down in the chair next to her. She then cuddles up to me and I wrap my arm around her shoulder as the pilot now walks in.
“Ok. I’m going to get started with take off. All I ask is that you two be buckled for the ascent, and then when we’re in the air you can roam around all you want,” the pilot explains as if we haven’t done this before, but I just nod in agreement to appease him.
“Ok. I hope you enjoy the flight,” he says with a grimace as he slowly backs away before turning around and disappearing behind the door of the cockpit.
“Well, that was awkward…” y/n whispers and I let out another laugh as I rub her arm.
“Yes, it was,” I agree with her and she hums sleepily.
“I love you Marcus, don’t you forget it. It’s no one else for me,” she tells me as she nuzzles onto my neck, making me chuckle as it tickles, but I gladly welcome it.
“And I love you too, sweetheart. It’s no one else for me either,” I parrot her and she smiles softly as she pulls the blanket off the back of the chair.
“I’m going to get some sleep. You should too, babe,” she tells me as she closes her eyes and I snuggle her into my side.
“I think I may just do that,” I hum in agreement as sleep slowly starts to take me over.
Tumblr media
I wake up and look around with my eyes squinted in confusion for a moment, before fully remembering where I am. I look at the clock that’s up on the wall and deduce that I only slept for an hour out of the three hour flight. I rub at my tired eyes with my free hand before reaching into my pocket and pulling my phone out.
Y/n subconsciously snuggles farther into my side, making me smile as I look down at her. I lightly rub her arm for a moment, hoping it’ll lull her back into a deeper sleep before turning back to my phone. I use my phone for a while before I get pulled out of my thoughts when the pilot's door opens.
“I just wanted to inform you that we are about to land in Texas,” he tells me and I nod at him.
“Thank you,” I reply to him and he nods once more before heading back to the cockpit.
I turn my head to look back at y/n, who still sleeps soundly against my side. I move my shoulder a bit, making it nudge her and she groans before just going back to sleep. I softly nudge her again and she groans again before frowning.
“Marc, what?” she mutters out in a grumpy tone, making me smile.
“I hate to do this to you again, sweetheart, but we’re about to land,” I tell her softly and she groans as she finally opens her eyes.
“Man. I’m so tired lately. Don’t know why,” she comments as she sits up.
“I know. After this case, we should take some time off. Get you rested up,” I propose and she hums softly as she gives me a tired look.
“That sounds nice, babe,” she agrees and I smile softly at her.
I quickly pull her into my side again and leave a kiss on her forehead before she nuzzles into my neck. We stay cuddled up until we’ve fully landed and stand up. I grab our go packs as the door to the jet opens.
Together we walk off the jet and to the car they have waiting for us. I grab the keys from the guy who holds them out for me and give him a thank you as I slap his shoulder. He gives me a nod and smile before walking off.
I get into the driver's seat and y/n already sits in the passenger seat. She gives me a huge smile before I start the car up.
“Do you remember the way there or do you want me to put it in the navi?” Y/n asks me and I shake my head as I turn the blinker on to pull out of the airport parking lot.
“I think I got it, babe. Thanks, though,” I tell her and she nods before sitting back in her seat.
“I’ll get the briefing presentation loading up. Ezra should have sent it over,” y/n tells me as she pulls her laptop out.
“I’m sure she did. Ezra’s very thorough,” I add and she grins.
“That she is,” she agrees with me.
I drive for a while longer and before I know it, I’m pulling into the parking garage of my old work office. I pull into the parking lot and park before turning the car off. Y/n quickly unbuckles and starts getting out of the car.
I, however, freeze as I realize who I’m going to have to see when I walk in. Y/n seems to notice that I’m not getting out and opens her door again. She slides back in and gently puts a hand on my bicep, but it still makes me jump as it pulls me out of my daze.
“Marcus, are you okay? If you can’t do this, I can handle it. You go get the hotel that I’m sure we’re going to need,” she tells me and I shake my head.
“No. I’m not leaving you alone to deal with my ex-fiancé,” I inform her and she smiles softly at me.
“Marcus. If you can’t go in, that’s okay, baby. I can do it. It’d be hard, but I’m sure I’d be fine,” she again tries and I shake my head again.
“No. No. I just needed a moment. I’m okay. I’ll come in with you,” I promise her and she smiles.
“Ok. If you’re really sure, my love. Let’s go,” she agrees with a soft nod before getting back out of the car.
I sigh once at the thought of how lucky I have gotten and shake my head before getting out of the car myself. I meet her around the back of the car and open the trunk door. I pull my go bag out and she grabs hers before putting it on her shoulder as I do mine.
She goes around the car on her side and heads for the building with me right behind her. She stops at the front of the car to look at the building before looking at me.
“We do this together, yeah?” she asks me as she holds her hand out for mine.
“Together,” I agree with a smile as I grab her hand.
With one last smile from her, we walk through the door. The door monitor stands when he sees us as he asks for IDs and we both pull them out. He looks over them for a second before stepping to the side and nodding as he motions for us to move on.
We walk farther in and soon I’m walking down familiar hallways. I show y/n where to go as we hit the first floor.
“Did Abbott tell you where he was meeting us or where to meet up with him?” I ask her as we walk and she turns to look at me.
“He said to come to his office and he’ll do the rest from there. Said you’d know where to go?” she tells me and I nod.
“Yup, I know exactly where it is. Maybe we’ll get lucky and not run into anyone on the way,” I respond to her and she smiles, squeezing my hand.
I then lead her through the building and to the elevator. I press the button to Abbott’s floor and lean back against the rail. She cuddles into my side and I put my arm around her.
Once the elevator comes to a stop, we wait a moment for the doors to open. After they do, we walk through them and into the big room. We look around all the desks, but nobody seems to look up so I just quickly start to lead her down the hall to Abbott’s office.
“This place is so huge. Definitely more beautiful than our office. I see why you liked working here,” y/n comments as she looks around while we walk.
We soon come up to Abbott’s door and I leave a knock on it. We wait just a few minutes before we hear him tell us to come in. With one last squeeze of y/n’s hand, I reach out and open the door before walking in.
“Ahhh, Marcus. It’s so good to see you again. How’ve you been?” Abbott asks as he looks up from his desk as we walk in.
“Good, good. This is y/n, my partner and girlfriend,” I tell him as I introduce y/n while pointing at her.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you. Marcus, you picked a beautiful girl,” Abbott politely gives an affirmation to y/n that makes her smile.
“Thank you, sir, but I wouldn’t say I picked her. More like she picked me,” I comment and y/n blushes.
“No one picked anyone, we simply were made to meet one another,” she tells me and I smile before pulling the seat out for her.
“Of course we were, sweetheart,” I tell her as I sit in the other seat.
“Well, Marcus, how can we help you?” Abbott asks with a smile as he changes the subject.
“Well, sir. We need your team to help us find a group of guys that stole a very important piece of work from the Washington museum. We tracked them here and need to get to them before they trade the piece,” I explain and he nods.
“Do you have everything you need to brief them ready?” he asks and y/n nods.
“Yes. I loaded it up on the way here. All I need is your tech person to help show me how to connect it to your database,” y/n replies and Abbott nods as he picks his phone up off the receiver.
“Jason, I need you in briefing,” Abbott talks through the phone and he nods, humming before putting the phone down again.
“Jason is on his way. He’ll show you how to connect. I’ll contact the team and have them all meet in briefing,"Abbott informs us with a light smile and y/n nods before standing up.
“Thank you, sir,” she tells him with a smile and I stand up alongside her.
“Come on, sweetheart. I know the way to briefing,” I tell her as I put a hand on her back as I guide her out of the room.
We walk out of his office and straight to the briefing room right across from it. As we walk in, Jason stands there with a smile that grows wider when he sees me.
“Agent Pike! So good to see you again,” he tells me before holding a hand out for a shake.
“And you, agent Wylie, how've you been, buddy?” I ask him as I shake his hand.
“Busy as always, how have you been in Washington?” he questions and I smile.
“Life’s been going pretty good. By the way, this is my partner and girlfriend, y/n,” I introduce y/n, putting a hand on her back.
“Oh that’s great news, how long have you two been together?” Jason asks with a smile at y/n.
“Four years in a week,” y/n proudly tells him and my face falls.
“That’s next week? Honey, I’m glad you said something now. I almost forgot,” I tell her and she playfully rolls her eyes at me.
“Marcus, baby, it’s ok. I understand, we’ve been working on this case so much lately. It’d be hard not to forget what day or week it is with how much we’ve been in office the last few weeks,” she tells me as she squeezes my arm softly, making me smile.
“I truly don’t deserve this girl,” I joke with Jason and he laughs.
“Ok. What is it you guys need?” Jason asks and y/n smiles.
“Can you show me how you guys connect your computers to the main screen?” Y/n questions as she holds her computer out to him.
“Sure! I’d love to!” Jason replies as he takes her computer.
“It's really simple. All you do is come over to the podium here and take this cord. Then just plug it in,” he tells her while showing her as I sit on the front table and she smiles enthusiastically.
“Wow, that’s so much simpler then what we have,” she comments and he looks at her, shocked.
“But you're DC. Isn’t DC like the highest building? Shouldn’t they have, like super advanced technology?” he asks and she giggles, shaking her head.
“You would think they did,” but unfortunately they do not,” I add on and y/n nods.
“It’s actually the worst. It always crashes and fails,” y/n explains and Jason shakes his head.
“And the higher ups don’t fix it?” he asks, making y/n laugh again.
“Nope. They care more about what’s in their offices than ours,” she answers him and he sighs.
“Dang, that sounds annoying,” he comments and y/n nods.
“Oh it most definitely is, but we love the job so we make it work,” I tell him with a shrug and he smiles.
“Well, at least you love it. That’s gotta count for something, right?” he asks and y/n nods, smiling.
“Oh it most definitely does,” she tells him before a throat clears from behind me.
I turn around to see who it is and in the time I’ve been here, I really had forgotten about why I had been apprehensive to come back. That is, until now. My face falls at the site of Patrick and Lisbon holding hands as they look over us. For a split second, I freeze and just stare behind me as I look them over, noticing shiny rings on their fingers.
I stay frozen, unable to move or speak as I look over at the girl I once loved now with someone else. It’s then when I feel another hand grab onto mine that I snap back to earth and turn to see y/n. She smiles softly up at me and suddenly all my anger washes away. I squeeze her hand to let her know I’m fine.
I give her a questioning look and she nods subtly. So with one last sigh I close my eyes before turning to them and opening them to look at them again.
“Patrick, Theresa,” I greet them with a small curt nod.

Hi J ! Love your writing! I was wondering if you could do a batman x fem!reader based off the idea that the reader is Jim Gordon's daughter and she meets batman and its really awkward and cute but Jim is not having it becuase he is super protective. Sorry if that's broad lol I'm new to requesting 😂😀
Ahh hi!! This is so fun, thank you so much for the request (I am so honored that you like my work!) 💕 I started thinking about it last night, and I got sucked in - I hope this works as a sweet little meet-cute.

Dinner Guest
Rated G - 900 words
Batman x F!Reader (Jim Gordon’s oldest daughter)
No Tags - just awkward first meetings! I tried to tap into the “college girl trying to look cute in front of her dad’s new co-op”, vibes haha 💕 (was that anyone else or just me??)

You wave at the guards as you push open the glass front door - there were perks for being the Commissioner's daughter, such as skipping the long line for security. Adjusting the straps of your tote bag, you follow the familiar path to the main office, the groups of desks clustered together.
Most of the officer's knew you by face, even the new recruits - you had practically grown up there. Hours spent making forts under your dad's desk, or sitting next to Mrs. Hudson, utterly fascinated by how she could switch from talking to you about school to dispatching calls, the picture of calm professionalism.
Rising on tip-toe, you scan the pockets of people, looking for your father - eventually spotting him leaning over a wall divider, talking to Officer Martinez.
Making your way over, your shoulder bumps as against his, announcing your arrival - his smile warm as he pauses, excusing himself as you give the officer a small wave.
“I didn’t know you were coming to see me. Where’s Barbara?” Jim hugs you, pecking a kiss against your temple.
“Babs is hanging out with friends, so I stopped by instead. I’m between classes,” You wave your hand, showing off the manila folder from his home office. “I brought those files you wanted.”
But then there’s someone else at his elbow, a Lieutenant wanting his advice on a case, Officer Martinez still waiting on his own answer.
“Can you put them in my office honey? I’ll be there in a minute.” He looks apologetic, but you smile, knowing how busy he is.
“Sure, dad.”
“You’re a lifesaver.” He smiles, squeezing your shoulder before you go.
Weaving between the desks, you walk down the short hallway, his new private office located at the end, his name printed in gold on the frosted window.
Once since you hesitate, frowning when you see the back window, cracked half-way open despite the late winter chill. It closes easily with a solid push, and as you go to turn you freeze in your tracks, something big and dark fluttering out of the corner of your eye.
Turning quickly, you gasp, the twist of fear in your stomach transforming into something else - surprise, excitement. It was the edge of a cape, caught in the wind, belonging to the figure waiting in the shadowed corner of the office.
"Oh my god, it's you." You breathe, clutching the folder to your chest, unable to stop your eyes from taking the quick loop, from his cowl to his boots, then back, "I follow all your cases, you are amazing."
He shifts, silent and wary, and you inch towards the wooden desk, resting your hip on it, utterly fascinated. The Batman is so much taller, broader, than you had though, the grainy photos online not doing him due justice.
Handsome, too. Younger than you thought.
All exciting revelations.
"My dad talks about you all the time." You confess, "I didn't think he actually, like - knew you."
He blinks, the flash of blue disappearing behind dark lids. Then, he surprises you, rasping out, "We... work together. He's a good man."
"Yeah, I know. He's great." You smile, turning to set the folder on his desk, your tote on the ground. A thrill runs through you, electric, and you wonder if your dad ever mentioned you, talked about you when they were working on cases.
But then your eyes are widening in realization, "Oh! You're probably here to see him. Do you want me to grab him?”
"I can wait."
It's silent again for a moment. But then you get an idea, pushing to your feet as you step closer, "You should come to dinner sometime, at our house. If you wanted. It's the least we can do, after you’ve done so much."
The door cracks open then, saving him from answering. Jim's brow is furrowed, looking puzzled as he closes it behind him, "Honey, who are you talking - oh."
The two men look at each other, before your dad turns back to you. You smile, shrugging as you lean back against the desk, "We were just talking. I invited him over, I could make dinner for all of us sometime."
He looks at you like you've sprouted two heads, "Honey, you hate cooking. You said so last night.”
You return a look of your own, a sharp barb of exasperation as your cheeks heat, before turning to face Batman, "Well, I wouldn't this time."
Jim shakes his head, taking you by the arm, gently pushing you towards the door, "We've taken enough of his time. Mrs. Hudson was asking about you, will you go say hi to her? We need a minute."
Sighing in disappointment, you crack the door open enough to slip through. Remembering at the last minute to lean back in to offer a quick "nice to meet you!" along with a cheery wave to the masked man, before the door clicks shuts behind you.
You think you saw him smile - or at least, that's how you're going to remember it later, when you pick apart every last detail.
Jim collapses in his chair after you leave, removing his glasses to rub at his temples, trying to soothe the headache that’s threatening to form, “My advice… do not have daughters.”
He looks up, and sees that Batman has not moved, except for the eyes that linger on the door - the frosted glass where the briefest shape of you can be seen as you walk down the hall.
Jim scowls.
“Or better yet, just stay away from mine.”

Sunday “Drive” (John Watson x Reader)
Tumblr media
It was a quiet, sunny Sunday afternoon much like any other inside of 221B.  Mrs. Hudson muttered about the gloom inside of the sitting room (Sherlock had drawn the drapes shut, complaining that the sunlight streaming through the windows was “distracting”).
Sherlock and John were sitting in the other room, both crammed together on the battered love seat watching crap telly.  Sherlock was making his usual loud and angry comments directed at the television set while John sat back, alternating between chortling to himself and rolling his eyes at the utter bilge that Sherlock was both disgusted and oddly compelled by.
You are sitting in a chair not too far away, playing a car racing game on your iPad that was supposed to be pretty popular now.
You don’t know exactly why you decided to download the game... You hadn’t really been one of those types of people before.  But today was a Sunday, and you were bored.
You begin to play, not exactly sure how the game is supposed to work.
Instantly, you are surprised at how good the graphics are.  It’s almost as if you’re driving a real car.  And with the good graphics come the stress of actual driving, and the need to get ahead of all of the other cars that were racing ahead of you...
“What?  What’s happening?  Ahh!  I don’t know how this works!  Oh no, I died.”
From the couch, John takes his head out of his hands and looks up, now subtly watching you.
“Wha--You think you can do that to me, you’ve got another thing coming mister!  Ha!  Take THAT you moron!... did you run me off the road?  UGH, I can’t believe I lost AGAIN!!’
Sherlock glanced up from the small, boxy screen of their ancient television set, the only acknowledgement he had given to the real world in ages, ever since John had suggested that they watch TV.
“You know, no matter how many times I try to do this thing, I always end up getting 6th place.  Or dead.  One or the other.  Oh, THAT’S not very nice!”  You pouted, unaware that John was watching you out of the corner of his eye.
“You’re going down, granny!”  You exclaimed, now utterly hooked on the game.
“I’m sorry,” John looked up directly now, no longer pretending to not be watching you.  “Did you just say, ‘you’re going down granny’?”
You smiled, and scoffed, not looking up from the screen.  “Goodness, no!  I said ‘You’re going down GREENIE’!  As in ‘green car’.  I’m not that far gone!”
John shifted his body on the love seat so that he was no longer facing the television screen with Sherlock, but now fully facing you on the couch.
“I just watched someone brutally murdered and it was actually pretty funny,” you gave a chuckle to yourself, well aware of how that sounded.
Sherlock looked up from the screen, and shifted himself too.  “I think Y/N has been spending a little too much time with me.”
John turned to Sherlock and nodded once, very slowly.  Both of them were now fixated on you.
You glanced up from the screen of the iPad, and blushed.  “Oh, I’m sorry.  I’ll be quiet now.”
Sherlock didn’t seem convinced, but turned back to his TV show once again.
The only sound in 221B was the sound of the bickering family revealing secrets in the show Sherlock was so oddly attached to.
John relaxed, and turned back to the screen.
“Oh gravity, thou art a heartless bitch.”  You huffed, and got ready to give the racing track another shot, but Sherlock and John both stood up at that moment, and John took the iPad out of your hands.
“How about we go out?”
You looked up at the two of them, who were looking down at you with vague concern (Sherlock, with more amusement than concern).
“Go out?  To eat?  But we just went out yesterday, and you know that money doesn’t grow on trees around here.  Besides, I just want to try one more round of the new game that I found.”
Sherlock and John looked at each other, and without a word both took one of your arms, hoisted out up out of your chair, and led you out of 221B, onto the sunny streets of London.
