North Korean jets perform firing exercise near the border with South Korea

A dozen North Korean combat jets performed a shooting exercise in formation on Thursday afternoon (06/10), after the launch of two short-range ballistic missiles by the Korean Democratic People's Republic (RPDC) earlier in the day.

Eight North Korean fighters and four bombers flew in formation north of the inter-Korean air border around 2 p.m., for about an hour, seeming to perform air-surface shooting exercises, said the Joint Chief of Staff of South Korea (JCS).

Some of the DPRK's warplanes violated South Korea's "special reconnaissance line," the JCS added. The South Korean military sent what they called a "shocking" response to the formation of the DPRK with about 30 aircraft, including F-15K fighters, but did not specify where they flew or how close they were to the North Korean formation.

According to reports from the South Korean media, the ROK military establishes special reconnaissance lines for surveillance purposes north of an inter-Korean airspace damping zone near the border.

The buffer zone, outlined in the 2018 inter-Korean military agreement, extends to a maximum of 25 miles (40 kilometers) of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), dividing Koreas on the east side and 12.5 miles (20 kilometers) on the west side.

The Yonhap news agency reported that the DPRK warplanes did not violate the damping zone or cross a different line further south that would require "tactic action" from Seoul, without citing a source.

Warplanes flew from Koksan to Hwangju, in South Hwanghae province, Yonhap said, citing an unidentified military source. The regions are about 65 kilometers from the western part of the inter-Korean border.

The military also told Yonhap that North Korean training flights, such as the type executed on Thursday, are very rare and were not observed last year.

In terms of attack jets, Hinata-Yamaguchi said that it is possible that the DPRK has sent Su-25s - Soviet versions of the U.S. A10 Thunderbolt attack jets - and the Su-7. The exercises, he said, were probably a direct response to the recent trilateral exercises conducted by U.S., Japan and South Korean forces.

“North Koreans may also want to evaluate the U.S. and ROK tactical response systems – how quickly they respond and what they send,” he added.

North Korean Escapee Stories-Chul-eun Lee

Chul-eun Lee, a former high-ranking North Korean government official defected to South Korea in 2016.

Lee escaped via the yellow sea, a journey which took him 8 hours to swim. He was a State Security Officer and his job was to preserve the Kim Dynasty, this meant monitoring the korean public. Each officer is assigned 700-1,200 people to monitor. An officer can have up to 20-40 informants. They report directly to Kim Jong-un. Job is attained by generational relations.

You are not allowed to believe in God in North Korea, this can land you in political prison. Changdong had a secret underground church. Every household must have an image of Ill Sung and Jong-un, but they had a cross instead. They were executed/ sent to prison. Korea has its own justice system and for the most part, leaders are shot and accomplices sent to prison for 10/20 years. The prisons are a town built in the valley of a big mountain surrounded by barbed fences and machine guns at every corner. prisoners are forced to farm. Men and women are forbidden to mingle. Some camps you have no say, but others you can appeal.

There is a misunderstanding that every north korean hates Jong-un, if they did, there wouldn't be a North Korea. North koreans admire Jong much more than Sung. Jong is seen as progressive as he interacts with the public, criticises himself on the news. North koreans believe they will win any war due to their confidence in him.

Life for those at the top is better than defecting to south korea, they have more money. There is a social hierarchy much like that of the Roman Empire, the rich have all the power. Unlike other asian cultures, it is accepted that the rich can talk down to older people. You cannot own a car, you have to be gifted it by Jong-un.

Lee wanted to leave korea because of how the lower class were being treated. He saw life there as looking hopeless, he saw no future. He felt trapped having to report on everything they did, monitoring others. South Korean Red Cross send rice over via boat, to which Lee interacted with one of the team. He was educated on life in the south and it disproved his knowledge of the south as being 'starving and ragged' under the colonisation of the US. After uni, he was stationed in South hwanghae province where he would see south korean tv-he saw the world was changing faster than expected. He saw the former sk president speak on National liberation day, where she said north koreans are welcome to come.

He and his friend used a rental motorbike to get to the location and jumped into the sea as soon as the sun set. They avoided minefields and scouted out a fence that wasn't electric-electric is scarce in korea. The laid in mud for the guards to pass and entered the water. They used their backpacks to float and swim, taking off all their belongings after two hours. They saw a boat they thought to be north korean and so took rest on an island near to them. They built a raft from trash they found and journeyed back out into the sea. They saw south korean boats and were allowed aboard. South Korea send out boats to help defectors, they used thermal scanners to scan out people, but their body temperatures were so low, they fell off the monitor. He puts their survival down to their mental determination. He was interrogated and given a lie detector test, he was released after 3 months. He was taught the south korean system and english.

He explains how in south korea, there are no defectors who went on to become police officers, prosecutors. He realized there was a lot of discrimination in south korea and came to regret his choice. he explains although there isn't necessarily discrimination , there are a lot of limitations in succeeding in south korea which suggests otherwise. In the past, the south korean government helped defectors get jobs but now they have stopped due to political concerns. His opinion is that there is too much national pride in south korea, and that people formulate opinions based on stereotypes. He explains that the perception of North Korea as being a rural and poor place is not representative of the entire country. He says how NK is trying hard to develop like other developing countries,.

広島県　宮島の来島者　去年より45％増（NHKニュース）

コロナ禍も3年目となり、世界遺産の島にも観光客が戻ってきています。

広島県の宮島観光協会によりますと、ことしの宮島の来島者数は12月25日まででおよそ273万人、去年と比べ85万人増えました。

一方、コロナ禍前の2019年と比べると6割に留まっています。

2020年188万人（過去最少）

2019年466万人

厳島神社の大鳥居の修復工事も3年半ぶりに終了し、宮島観光協会では「正月三が日の来島者数を去年の1.5倍となる12万人」と見込んでいます。

新型コロナ　県内で３５３１人感染確認 ４人死亡　３１日発表（NHKニュース）

広島県では３１日、新たに３５３１人が新型コロナウイルスに感染していることが確認され、４人が亡くなったと発表されました。

感染が確認されたのは、▼広島市で１４２９人、▼福山市で７２７人、▼呉市で３４３人、▼東広島市で２１２人、▼尾道市で１９１人、▼廿日市市で１８７人、▼三原市で１１３人、▼府中市で４２人、▼三次市と府中町でそれぞれ３６人、▼大竹市で３３人、▼竹原市で３１人、▼海田町で２８人、▼世羅町で２５人、▼江田島市と庄原市でそれぞれ１８人、▼北広島町で１６人、▼安芸高田市で１４人、▼熊野町と坂町でそれぞれ９人、▼神石高原町で７人、▼安芸太田町で４人、▼大崎上島町で３人のあわせて３５３１人です。

一方、福山市は２９日発表した１人について取り下げました。これで県内での感染確認は、のべ６６万８３１２人となりました。

また、県内では患者４人が亡くなったと発表されました。県内で新型コロナウイルスに感染し、その後、死亡した人は１０２３人となりました。

新型コロナ医療体制　病床使用率６０．８％　３０日時点（NHKニュース）

３０日の時点で病床の使用率は６０．８％（確保病床数８８６床、入院患者５３９人）。

このうち重症患者用の病床使用率は２６．９％です（確保重症病床５２床、重症の入院患者１４人）。

軽症の人や症状がない人が入る宿泊療養施設は１２４０室を確保し、３５６人が過ごしています（利用率２８．７％）。

直近１週間の人口１０万人あたりの新規感染者数は１３０７．７９人です。

現在、広島県の感染レベルは、１から４の４段階のうち発熱外来を受診する患者が増えるなど、保健医療の体制への負荷が高まり始���ていることを示す「レベル２」です。

厚生労働省によりますと、31日、発表した国内の新たな感染者は空港の検疫などを含め10万7465人となっています。また国内で亡くなった人は292人で、累計5万7266人となっています。

北朝鮮、ミサイル3発発射 2022年は過去最多（AFPBB）

【12月31日 AFP】韓国軍は31日、北朝鮮が同日午前8時ごろ、黄海北道（North Hwanghae Province）中和（Chunghwa）郡から日本海に向けて短距離弾道ミサイル3発を発射したと発表した。北朝鮮の2022年のミサイル発射回数は過去最多を更新した。

韓国軍によれば、ミサイルは約350キロ飛行して落下した。

韓国軍統合参謀本部は「わが軍は米国と緊密に協力して監視と警戒を強化しながら、完全な即応態勢を維持している」と述べた。

前日には、韓国軍が固体燃料ロケットの試験飛行に成功。今週には北朝鮮の無人機5機が韓国領空に侵入した。

防衛費5年間で大幅増の43兆円、実際は60兆円近くに膨張　そのわけは…（東京新聞）

政府が2023〜27年度の5年間の次期計画で打ち出した防衛費の大幅増に関し、実際の規模は60兆円近くに膨れ上がることが分かった。政府は5年間の規模を43兆円としているが、それ以外にも、期間中に新規契約する装備品購入費で28年度以降にローンで支払う額が16兆5000億円あるためだ。保有を決めた敵基地攻撃能力（反撃能力）向けのミサイルや戦闘機などの高額兵器を一気に増やすことが影響しており、防衛費のさらなる膨張や予算の硬直化につながる恐れがある。（川田篤志）

Yesterday's News from North Korea Soybean Harvesting Finished​

Pyongyang, October 31 (KCNA) -- Agricultural workers in North Hwanghae Province of the DPRK finished the harvesting of the most of soybean.

Officials in the agricultural field of cities and counties in the province sensibly tackled problems arising in the farming processes while rationally allocating manpower and organizing work under detailed schedules.

Farms set the right order of harvesting depending on strains and ripeness to increase the yield and soybean sheaves were brought for threshing in good time with the help of vehicles in full-capacity operation.

They are now concentrating efforts on the grain threshing.
