What do you love most about the children of the watch? I only found your profile recently and I see you talk about them a lot (LOVE how you defend them against begin called a cult)- and I was just wondering what parts are the coolest for you?
ohhgg hello, i'm so glad you're enjoying my blog! and man the i LOVE the cotw, so many aspects of it is so interesting. i guess i really liked seeing them as a perservering religious group, iykwim. i'm muslim, i live in america, i've faced the struggles of being the minority here. i'm also palestinian, i've faced genocide before as well, so seeing the children of the watch, an orthodox religious group that perserveres as a community even after they lost their homes... it just really connected with me. i understood what the cotw were going through, i understood how the world saw them as "dangerous" and as crazy extremists and all that shit. and really i realized how much that affected ME in real life. how much i could relate to them in so many aspects, it just really resonated with me how similar my identity was shaped like how their identity was too.
i love their culture, i love how it was influenced by polynesian culture, i love how so many aspects of their religion can relate to real life religions. i struggled (and am still struggling) with my hijabi identity for a very long time. seeing this group of people, a religious and cultural minority wearing religious head coverings... i just felt seen. i felt like it was so amazing how normalized it was seeing this on tv, with millions of viewers from all different backgrounds. it was just special.
i guess another reason is just the culture they built off of adapting to the helmet and armor. i'm very active in the Deaf community around my area (i say, 5 minutes after i just interviewed a Deaf community leader) and so much of communication depends on non-manual signals, like facial expressions, so seeing how the cotw adapted their mannerisms to communicate without their facial expressions is SO interesting to me. they must have an entire love language based off of certain movements and that's so insanely interesting to explore.
i also really love the way they hold foundlings and their children to the highest importance. i love familial bonds and i love found family and the cotw embody that SO well. clan of two have my HEART. father and child bonds are so important to me, and the cotw focus so much on that.
i think there's an endless list of reasons why i love the children of the watch so much, but these are just some of my favorite reasons. if you or anyone else has anything to add i'd love to hear!
