Could u tell us your favourite facts about Witch Hunting?
I've said part of this before but the reason why I find it so interesting is that it shows a lot of pre-existing beliefs and cultural norms in different societies and times and how those norms were regularly enforced not only by the actual law-enforcers but by everyday people as well.
And not just in older times, because there still are a number of countries where laws against witchcraft are present and used, so it's also generally incorrect to say that as a cultural movement it completely faded away: it just migrated.
Witch hunting also ties in with my liking of law! The trial was often the most important part of said hunt, and a lot of those were strictly regulated- and were perfect examples of how to manipulate testimony and proof as well as the first times people debated over what proof was admissible and things of the sort!
+ also fun fact (despite this being mostly alleged) some people say that Matthew Hopkins died because he got accused of witchcraft and couldn't pass his own tests.
