Please give us a highlight or something to watch out for in the upcoming play. Nakatani: Whenever I went to go see Engeki Haikyuu before this, simply put I always thought it was amazing.  Somehow everything is connected.  This time, as the cast and staff put their heads together and become one, our challenge is to “change.”  Of course we’re still going to “connect,” but we want to make an Engeki Haikyuu that’s completely different from before and one that’s even higher quality.  That’s what we’re working toward, so want people to look forward to that as they wait.   Kitazawa: The stage play is unique and different from both the manga and the anime, but it’s firmly rooted in the manga.  I think we have to come up with things that are original to the play and even original for our characters by how we let ourselves shine through them.  Yuushin-kun's already said it, but this production is going to be different from all the previous ones that have come before.  I hope people want to come see how it’ll take shape and what kind of performance it’ll turn out to be. Kanegae: At least everyone on the cast are getting along great.  So I hope that our existing relationships will shine through on-stage throughout the play.  We have a lot of people who are about the same age.  I really want our friendships to be front and center. Osada: I think that this show is going to turn into something really dynamic.  The choreography and the music are all new.  Everyone on the cast are new at working on this play together so there are a lot of new ideas being brought forth.  Of course we’ll be different from past productions, so I think the biggest highlight is the what form our new Karasuno takes.  And for me personally, I get to play Kinoshita Hisashi, who’s appearing for the first time in the Engeki Haikyuu series with this show, so I’m really really looking forward to it.  I’m working especially hard to figure out how best to play him and how best to capture the audience’s attention, so I would love it if other people could look forward to that too.
Please tell us something about how you relate to your characters. Nakatani: When it comes to Ennoshita Chikara as a character, the general impression that everyone has is that he’s smart and calm and that he’s the manager of the second years.  Or I think that’s probably the image that most people have of him.  But on the other hand, Nakatani Yuushin as a person is not someone who’s ever been a manager-type in his life, and he’s not very smart, and really there’s a lot in which I’m the polar opposite.  Even though I might think that I don’t resemble Ennoshita at all in the casting, maybe it means that when other people look at me, they think I do, at least with some things.  So I’m hoping to realize that for myself and bring out more of those Ennoshita-like features in the play.  I want to be an Ennoshita that only I can be. Kitazawa: For me... I wonder if we have the same face? (laughs)  When I look in the mirror, I kind of think to myself, “We sort of look alike, maybe?” (laughs)  But, we don’t actually look that much alike... Nakatani: Which is it?! Kitazawa: Nishinoya Yuu-kun is a character that’s very energetic and very funny, right?  I also like messing around and making people laugh, so I think we’re similar in that regard.  But his personality and attitude when he’s playing volleyball is so different.  When it comes to volleyball, he’s super serious about it.  And he’s super strong mentally too.  When Karasuno’s depressed or worn down, it’s Nishinoya who encourages them.  I don’t think I can be that manly and cool, but I want to be true to his character, and I want to become the type of man that other men admire!   Kanegae: What I have in common with Tanaka is... the shaved head. Nakatani: That part’s exactly the same. Kanegae: And we have beautifully shaped heads.  It’s a little embarrassing for me to say that about myself.  (laughs)  But seriously, when you watch the anime, that head’s beautiful!  Where I’m lacking is that my sideburns aren’t that long.  For the show, I’m gonna work really hard to lengthen them.  That’s all.  (laughs) Everyone: Hahahaha! (laughs) Kanegae: Tanaka Ryuunosuke is passionate, always thinks about his teammates, manly, and a bit reckless.  A long time ago, I played basketball for a while, and right now being at rehearsals with everyone feels exactly like those nostalgic team practice days.  I’m a strapping Kyushu lad, and having that kind of foundation makes it so that I have actually quite a lot in common with Tanaka.  I’d like us to communicate honestly and openly with one another, but not overdo it while creating this play. Osada: Even when you read the manga, Kinoshita Hisashi doesn’t appear very much, and he’s not very good at being put in the forefront, so I have the impression that he’s very passive, but as an actor I’m obviously not like that.  The part where I feel we have the most in common is where we’re always thinking about our teammates.  Like we’re always thinking about the team winning the championship.  And wanting to make sure the team succeeds, and I’m the same in that respect.
If you could pick a favorite character within the series, who would it be? Nakatani: Probably Hinata.  I don’t think I could be as direct as he is!  Although I feel like you couldn’t be an actor if you were like that.  But I think it could be fun to have sort of honesty and frankness.  Obviously there would also be some difficulties.  But that’s why I’d like to borrow some of Hinata’s strengths as a character.  Hinata has the power to be so unconventional that usually-negative things become positives and that’s just simply put, amazing.  I’d like to try and experience that. Kitazawa: I obviously love Nishinoya Yuu most but if I were to choose someone other than Nishinoya, it would be Tendou Satori.  I like the way he talks, and his voice, and just his character.  He plays volleyball with his instincts, and I think it would be really fun to try and play his character. Osada: Without a doubt, my favorite character is Tanaka. Kanegae: Ooh, I’m embarrassed now.   Nakatani: I can’t imagine Sean being Tanaka. Osada: He feels like a man among men, a figure that pulls everyone along, and he’s so passionate, I’m super captivated by him.  And of course, I love Kou-chan's Tanaka. (laughs) Kanegae: And you like me too, right? Osada: There’s that too. (laughs) Kanegae: WOOHOO! Osada: But I don’t think I’d want to actually play Tanaka myself.  Because I don’t want to shave my head! Kanegae: That’s your trouble?!
Please tell us a story from your rehearsals. Osada: We do practice volleyball for real at rehearsals, but before rehearsals and after, we’ll gather everyone into a circle and practice some passes.  But if someone spikes it overzealously, we’ve broken clocks, or shut off the lights. (laughs) We’ve had accidents like that.  But everyone’s getting really good at volleyball now so seeing that improvement is fun.  Everyone is so friendly and encouraging and that kind of atmosphere formed pretty quickly at rehearsals.   Kanegae: We had this plan where we would all try to get to know each other, so sometimes we’ll each present a little something that we can do.  Yuushin sang for us, and he’s super good at it.  But doesn’t he seem like he’s getting a little on in years? Everyone: Hahahaha! (laughs) Kanegae: But I mean with a beautiful voice like that, he just trounced everyone.  Maybe a day will come when he’ll be able to showcase that beautiful voice of his. Kitazawa: Ohhhh? Nakatani: By the way, that was a long song I wrote for Tanaka Ryuunosuke and Kanoka.  Kou-san had been taking care of me, and my specialty is writing songs.  I wondered if maybe I could write a good song for him, and that was what I presented. (laughs)  And as Sean said earlier, everyone really does play volleyball together.  If we can find any spare time at all, we’re at it.  And when we’re playing actual volleyball, we get pretty fired up about it.  We’re just honestly having fun, cheering for each other naturally, and I think it’s pretty close to how we’ll behave on-stage too.  All those times when we’re just naturally having fun and all those times when we’re really working hard... if we can accumulate and harness those experiences, it’ll turn into a more realistic and interesting play.  I really feel that we have a great environment at rehearsals.   Kitazawa: Earlier, when Sean said that we occasionally have people who spike overzealously, it is in fact Sean who likes to spike overzealously! (laughs) Nakatani: Yeah!  It’s always Sean! Kitazawa: Everyone’s just taking it easy and then Sean just SMASHES it! Osada: It’s because my right hand is American. (laughs) Kitazawa: Well, but thanks to Sean, I’m able to study my English everyday! Kanegae: Why would you lie about that?! (laughs) Nakatani: I’ve never seen anything like that! (laughs)  All right, if you’ve been studying, say something in English. Kitazawa: “I’m melting.”   Nakatani: Eh, what does that mean? Osada: Because it’s hot, I’m melting.  (laughs) Everyone: Hahahaa! (laughs) Kitazawa: For me, when I thought of the translation for “hot” I only knew the word “boiling,” so Sean corrected me and taught me “melting” and I thought oh I learned something!   Nakatani: What are we even talking about? (laughs)
Tumblr media
What were your first impressions of each other, and your impressions of each other now? Kanegae: Yuuma’s really cute, right?  Exactly as he appears.   Nakatani: He is!  He’s exactly like you expect from just looking at him. Kitazawa: Am I really? (laughs) Kanegae: What about Sean? Nakatani: For Sean, I might have a different impression now maybe.   Kanegae: There are some days where he’s really American and other days when he’s really Japanese. (laughs) Kitazawa: I thought Sean-kun was a really energetic person at first, but when he’s tired at rehearsals, he gets to a point where he won’t talk at all. (laughs)  I have the impression that his on/off is pretty extreme. Nakatani: At rehearsals, everyone is always putting out their ideas and opinions.  We discuss them all carefully, and sometimes Worry-san adopts our ideas and uses them.  He’ll usually say, “Ba Ba baaaan!” or something.  But if his ideas aren’t used, he gets really depressed. (laughs) Osada: Well it’s really sad and upsetting when your ideas aren’t accepted... Kanegae: We have a lot of people so there are quite a lot of ideas that get put out. Osada: Lately people have been putting out a lot of really good ideas, and for scenes with Tanaka and me, I was like, “Kou-chan, listen!  Here, right when you say this bit, what if we....” and then he said to me, “Oh, let’s just do whatever.”  So I went, “Eh?  You won’t even listen to my idea?” and I was really sad!   Kanegae: Well it means I’m trying to just wing it and not have a plan for it, so we don’t have to discuss those scenes, we’ll just try things out during the tour. Osada: But you could at least listen to my ideasss. (cries) Kanegae: You can just do whatever.  It means I’ll accept whatever you throw at me. (laughs) Nakatani: Because you have a strong foundation work with.  You’ll be all right no matter what you do. Osada: I can rely on him, for sure, but I was still a little surprised. (laughs) Kanegae: (laughs) Sorry! Kitazawa: When we were doing our second-year photoshoots, my impression of Yuushin-kun was: he’s probably the type to not talk very much?  That’s what I thought, but he’s actually really chatty. Nakatani: I’m shy around strangers.  Seriously. (straight face) Kanegae: ….fufufufu.  What’s that face you’re making? (laughs) Nakatani: Well, I couldn’t verbalize it in a way that would be easy to understand, so I made a face. Kitazawa: At rehearsls, Kou-kun is definitely our calm and steady captain. Kanegae: Although the actual captain isn’t me. Kitazawa: That’s true. (laughs) But I really do think of you as reliable.  Whenever there’s anything at rehearsals that I can’t do, Kou-kun can always do it, so I watch his example and follow. Nakatani: I would like to not rely on Kou-san too much, but of course I end up relying on him for some things.  But since my character isn’t supposed to be that type, so I’d like to be able to create an environment where Tanaka can act freely.  I’m working hard to be that background unsung hero. Kanegae: And now the next speaker! Osada: My first impression of Yuuma was different, I think.  Because we were doing our photoshoot at the time, I first met him when he was wearing a wig. Kanegae: Ahh!  I get that.   Osada: Kou-kun has a shaved head so he’s the same in or out of costume. Kanegae: It’s not just a shaved head.  It’s a stylish shaved head. Osada: And Yuushin too is more or less the same. Nakatani: It’s my real hair, yeah. Osada: So I felt like Yuuma had the biggest difference.  When we just put on our own clothes after, he felt so much like a Harajuku King, I mean even today he’s wearing a gold T-shirt with silver shorts!   Kitazawa: But Sean-kun changes a lot too.  When he’s wearing his wig, he’s super handsome. Osada: What does that mean?! (laughs)   Kitazawa: No, I mean you’re handsome now too!  But like, it’s a different type... Like a more flirty heartthrob? Kanegae: That blond hair does a lot, huh.
Please give one final message to people who will be going to see the show. Nakatani: I think there’s a lot to look forward to just with a new Karasuno cast, but we’re working hard to supersede everyone’s expectations, so please look forward to it. Kitazawa: I want to make a production that fans of the manga, fans of the stage show, and any other type of fan can accept.  I want everyone to accept us as the new Karasuno cast, and we’re working hard to bring you guys something amazing! Kanegae: Everyone’s tackling this like a real team, sweating together, eating together, and creating a strong foundation together outside of our characters as well.  We add our acting on top of that foundation, turn up the heat, and we’ll definitely make a great show.  I don’t mean to boast, but we’re going to do what we can, so please look forward to seeing us. Osada: I’m really looking forward to standing on stage in front of all these people who love Engeki Haikyuu.  I want you to see us having fun, to see the great friendship between the second-years, and just watch us the entire play.  I hope people watch this tour and think, “Ah, Engeki Haikyuu really is the best.” or “I really do love Engeki, and theater.”  We’re working hard to that effect, so please come see us at the theater! Kanegae: Give us one last message in English! Osada: See you soon!

Worth it.
Third Person’s POV
As soon as Dinah saw Lauren she jumped on the stage and hugged her tight. Lauren smiled at the affection and stepped down from the stage. Dinah was pulling Lauren behind her to make her meet Ally but when they passed Camila, Lauren’s eyes locked with Camila’s and her jaw dropped.
Now there could be many reasons for that. Maybe Lauren wasn’t expecting Camila there. Maybe Lauren was surprised. Maybe Lauren was shocked. Or maybe Camila looked sexy as hell in that LBD. The reaction was mutual. Camila herself didn’t expected Lauren to be there. She didn’t expect her to meet her like this and that too dressed like that! The make up was making her eyes pop out and it was enough for Camila to want to swim in them.
Camila walked away and came to the bar for a glass of water. After retrieving her glass she went back to the table she kept her belongings on. “Typical Camz.” Lauren said and motioned at the seat next to Camila asking if she could sit there. Camila nodded. Lauren took the seat and grinned at Camila. “Hi.” Lauren said in a childlike manner instantly remembering their talk at Ègarè 8 years back. Camila’s smile widened, “Hello Lauren.” Camila’s reply was more confident and poised than Lauren remembered. She didn’t stutter or sounded unsure. Lauren stole Camila’s glass of water and took a sip. She immediately shuddered at the sensation. “Its cold!” She said. “Its water.” Came Camila’s instant reply. Lauren nodded at the bluntness. She liked this side of Camila. The confident and sexy side. The bow was gone her hair was short and had beach waves giving her a perfect look. She looked perfect. Camila was perfect.
“Did you get married?” The question caught Camila off guard she furrowed her eyebrows and turned to look at Lauren. Lauren was serious. She chuckled and replied, “What!? No!!” Lauren nodded and then asked, “Kids?” Lauren had a playful smirk of her face. She never forgot any of their conversations. “YES! THREE!” Camila replied catching the playful drift in Lauren’s tone. “Such a slut!” Lauren said and both started laughing they knew she didn’t mean it. “Why do you ask?” Camila questioned. It was odd for Lauren to ask marraige related questions. “Just.. thinking should I listen to you or start flirting.” Lauren shrugged. “Is flirting that necessary?” Camila asked, looking ahead and at the dance floor. “Of course! It’s good for health.. you know like-” , “yoga.. I remember.” Camila completed Lauren, her gaze not wavering. Lauren turned to Camila and could see her side profile. By whatever she could see in the dim light all that came to her mind was beautiful.
Before she could think of what she was saying she said “Were you this beautiful from the start or has time committed the best mistake?” Familiar butterflies erupted in Camila’s stomach and she blushed at Lauren’s comment. She had to reply something. “Eww.. this is so John Green type of you..” Camila said and patted her back for a nice reply. Her voice also didn’t give away her nervousness and she was happy for that. “You are finding these lines cheesy now.. did you forget you used to swoon on them few years back.” Lauren tried to save the last bit of her self esteem in this conversation. “Please!! Me? I used to swoon on you??” Camila replied and scoffed. Did lauren guessed that she had a crush on her back then? Or worse, could Lauren guess that she was still in love with her?
Hearing that Lauren couldn’t help but look down and stare at her fingers. She didn’t care if people judged her for sleeping around. But she did care about Camila’s approval. Even before going to Chicago Camila was the one who talked her out of doing something stupid. Seeing Lauren this silent and serious Camila felt something. And before she could filter them she spoke, “You haven’t changed at all Lauren.” This made Lauren look up and at Camila. “Except one thing. Old Lauren along with flirting shamelessly used to smile too.” Camila said and wanted to slap herself for being inconsiderate. But Lauren smiled at that and bit her lip. Camila offered the glass of water and motioned Lauren to drink it. “How is it?” This time the water was not cold. It was considerably warm. “Better.” Lauren smiled. “Exactly. Give things time. They get better… come on let’s dance.”
~Give it to me, I’m worth it Baby, I’m worth it Uh huh I’m worth it Gimme gimme I’m worth it~
While walking lauren recognized the song and started lip syncing grooving to the music.
~OK, I tell her bring it back like she left some Bring it bring it back like she left some- In the club with the lights off Whatchu acting shy for?~
Lauren directed the last line to Camila who was moving with a lot of sophistication.
~I may talk a lot of stuff Guaranteed, I can back it up I think I'mma call you bluff Hurry up, I’m waitin’ out front~
Dinah found them dancing and joined them. She had been drinking a lot and her moves were sloppy.
~Uh huh show me what you got ‘Cause I don’t wanna waste my time Uh huh see me in the spotlight “Ooh I love your style” Uh huh show me what you got now Come and make it worth my while~
“GIVE IT TO ME I AM WORTH IT!” All three screamed and started grooving. Camila too opened up and started dancing.

Third Person’s POV
After the party came to an end Dinah dragged Lauren so that she could meet one last person. Dinah sneaked up behind Normani and covered her eyes. “Look what I brought for you.” She said removing her hands and Normani saw Lauren standing there. “Hey Mani” Lauren said smiling. Surprisingly Normani didn’t jump. She didn’t hug her. She didn’t say anything. Dinah left Normani’s side and went to Lauren, “I told you. She would die out of shock.” Dinah said and giggled. “What did you guys thought? That I would miss her suicide mission?” Lauren asked putting her arms around Dinah’s shoulder keeping her from falling face first. “We didn’t think. We knew. We knew you won’t come.” Normani said and Lauren’s face fell.
Realising what she had said Normani stood up and hugged Lauren. “What a surprise dude. What a surprise. Drink?” Normani asked but didn’t wait for Lauren’s reply. She went to the alcohol table beside the pool and poured them a glass.
“Why weren’t you present at the cocktail party??” Lauren asked Normani. “Dinah’s lady love ruined my one and only white dress.” Normani replied and came down to sit beside her friends with the glasses. “By the way who is this little miss sunshine?” Even Lauren found Ally to be overly bubbly. “Oh she is damn rich. Personality is a little weak but she owns a bentley.” Normani said and Dinah smacked her. “Shut up Mani. Ally is a very sweet and intelligent person and loves me a lot.” Dinah directed her attention back to Lauren while saying the last part.
“So how is you club coming out?” Lauren asked Normani. She knew Normani went ahead with the plan of owning a club and wanted to know how her friend was doing. “Perfect.” Lauren nodded at Normani’s reply. “So how long are you staying this time?” Dinah asked Lauren. They all had established that Lauren didn’t like Europe and would never want to come there for anymore days than she had to. “I’ll leave on the night of your wedding. Will go straight to Tokyo.” Lauren answered looking lovingly at her friend. Dinah didn’t change at all. She was just like she was before and little more matured and feminine like but her heart still remained pure. “Oohhh Tokyo.. what’s happening there?” Dinah further queried. “I got this amazing offer.” Lauren replied and danced her eyebrows. “Your life has always been amazing.. no?” Normani too added in her two cents. “Dont you live in Chicago anymore?” She too queried. “Chicago was at the very beginning. After that I went to New York, then Hawaii then-” , “You roam around so much.. I got confused.” Normani interrupted Lauren and was clearly intoxicated now.
An awkward silence fell between them and Lauren couldn’t figure out if Normani was being like this because of the alcohol or was voicing what she actually felt. “Last time we talked… you were in Boston?” Dinah tried to fill the silence. “No. LA.” Lauren corrected her. “Yeah… how could I forget? When your dad… I am really sorry Lo.. It was so sudden. I felt really bad after I heard.” Dinah sighed. Lauren just nodded mustering up enough strength to give a small smile. “I.. I’ll take a shower now. I’ll see you guys later…” Lauren said and stood up. She couldn’t stay there for any moment longer than necessary. The guilt was too much.
“You won’t go home?” Normani asked bluntly. “Nope. It wont be possible this time.” Lauren whispered softly. “COME ON GUYS! Let’s do something tonight. Like old times. We three are together!!” Dinah tried to save the last bit of their friendship. Even a blind person could see how strained their relationship was now. “What do you mean by old times!?? Except our faces nothing is the same anymore!” Normani scoffed. “Nothing ever changes between friends.” Lauren argued. “Correct. But you and me are not friends anymore.” Normani stood up and before walking away she stopped and licked her lips, “Cheers man.” And with that she left Dinah and Lauren. Both the girls turned to each other and Lauren’s eyes were filled with tears. She gave Dinah a small smile and turned to walk away.

A/N
I told you I would update more frequently…
