#//it’s boring and does more telling than showing.#//it doesn’t know what story it wants to tell: if you want to tell the toxic relationship of Josephine and napoleon you can do that.#if you want to tell the story of napoleon’s lust for power yoh can do that too #the problem is it tries to do everything at once and succeeds at none of them #I ain’t even gonna talk about historical inaccuracy: listen #there’s a 1980s miniseries about napoleon and Josephine being toxic and. it doesn’t care about accuracy. but it wants to tell a story and #it tells it.#Scott wants to tell us that napoleon foreshadows charismatic tyrants of the 20th century #and then failed to show napoleon being charismatic? undercutting his entire thesis?#I think it’s a fun deadpan comedy. but it’s messy af
