Vitreous Almanacs are a LIFESAVER when I was grinding shadowy! Get them in the Sunken Embassy, take 'em to the Dome of Scales, and trade them for 4 levels of Shadowy with the Fingerkings. It's still grindy, but takes a LOT less time than literally any other method I've seen of upping a skill.
