Yugi's dad walked out on his family to follow in Grandpa's footsteps and gamble all over the world. Yugi's mom couldn't afford their house on her own, and so Grandpa offered to let them live in the game shop, which pissed Yugi's dad off into cutting all contact even with his own father. because of this, Solomon considers Yugi's mom more of his own offspring than his actual son, and he's been trying really hard to be a better Grandpa than he was a Father.
