HI HI HIIII HELLO i am back from being out and kind of in a bit of an anxiety spiral but i'll be okay, had a cry and showered and i'm chilling now, thought you should hear about my weirdo dog!!!

so her name is Oppie (started out a lil differently but Oppie suits her!) and she's about 8 years old now, getting on a bit but still a very funky creature. she's from a breeder because my father wanted a purebred once as a change from adopting most of the time, and we picked her from all her brothers (she was the only girl left because she was the only one who would let my father pick her up and hold her in his arms like you would with a baby lol, tummy up, and she was just so chill about it. she was also the only one of the litter who wasn't a stubby-tailed puppy, and she's pretty small for a blue heeler because her mum was also kinda tiny.

she's a super cool doggo, and genuinely it's been so cool watching her and how she interacts with the world. she's hella smart, literally tries to manipulate everyone into doing her bidding, knows a bunch of commands, can close doors and stuff, and recognises family names and words. she's also really bonded to my father and has a Huge grudge against my baby brother (he's preteen and they have a bad habit of Always being in each other's way to the point where it's gotta be somewhat intentional, leading to her nipping ankles. bad habit, we're in the process of training both of them out of it T-T).

in terms of her personality, she's pretty antisocial towards other dogs and barks at em a lot, but towards strangers and general people she is the most lovely, friendly creature you ever did see, always looking for scratches and headpats and attention. you could literally stick your hand in her mouth and she wouldn't do anything. but yeah just generally very sweet towards humans.

fun facts about Oppie:

when she was a puppy, she jumped out of a moving car once. and she was on a leash too, she just YEETED her way out of the (half-up) window and we had to stop the car asap. lil dumbass got away with nothing but scratched pawpads but i think we're somewhat traumatised and she still does Not have window privileges in the car

she Lauvs running and can run so so fast

since blue heelers have a second coat, she's pretty furry and sheds a lot. i used to have to brush her pretty often, but have since found out i'm allergic and no longer take on that duty Imao

her favourite thing ever is the pool. she adores

the water and swimming and splashing it and she's so stubbornly determined that when we used to have an inground pool she would do parkour to get up on top of the fence (which was like 2 metres high) and then jump over the spiky gate bit to get to the poolwe even had tocover the bars of the fence with chicken wire because she would squeeze through them

she'll take a toy over a treat anytime, but she still loves liver treats and bully sticks

she's So stubborn and strong that one time she pulled hard enough in a game of tug of war that she broke her tooth. like. an actual tooth. one of the long canine fang thingies on the top row of teeth, and she had to get surgery for it. like Gurl you're kind of insane but i love you.

Im so sorry to hear about the anxiety spiral, but I'm glad there was some relief given in some way!!

First off: Oppie sounds absolutely PRECIOUS oh my god!!! Being a full blooded heeler I figure she would be insanely intelligent, almost to a fault XD my little heeler is such a smart baby and knows all sorts of words and tricks and behaviors, its so second nature for them to have a job or something to do with their brain and body~! It sucks she doesn't quite get along with your brother, though of course it is most likely because they get in each others way and she feels she's not controlling him right (not trying to mansplain your dogs behaviors at all, I just like to speculate~).

Though in another way my heeler is very much like yours: she doesn't do well with other dogs at all but she does wonderful with people. She'd curl into someone's skin if they let her after they gave her precisely one (1) eye contact lmao, and gentle as can be, just wants you to throw the ball or frisbee without ever actually taking it from her~ Other dogs make her uncomfortable though, we never did get to understand why. I found her one day (it was actually fathers day) just wandering up the street missing half her fur, so we were curious if it was like an abuse or dog fighting thing, but no solid proof either way.

That's been many years ago now though and she's got all her fur and siblings and toys~! I rambled a bit there but, short story long, the only other dog she's ever accepted is my beagle, he's a special boy for both her and I, and honestly I've never come up with a good explanation for why she accepted him.

Heelers are an enigma and a delight, I love them so terribly much! They are one of my favorite breeds to train and hear stories about, so thank you so so much for telling me about her! It seriously did make my day!

Debating rebooting this blog in its entirety for the new year... Finding tags and such since reworking everything has become incredibly difficult with nearly ten years’ worth of content on here, and nothing wants to stick that’s current, while older things I don’t care to remember do. Of course that’s also just on tumblr and sucking at remembering current tags when you have older ones, but I digress.

If I do remake to a whole new blog, would anyone be cool with a refollow? I’m giving it some serious thought and won’t be doing anything until next week at the earliest due to health issues either way, but I’m being honest when I say I do miss things here, it’s just been difficult to deal with a lot of offline and non-blog related things, as well as the hassle of trying to keep so many years of content organized when I failed to do it previously. IF I do reboot, I’ll be keeping all current relationships and most of the current verses, but possibly pruning my muse list a bit to only the most active muses.

This is a blog I love and partners I love even more - I’m not willing to just close it now. <3

Have you ever seen a leech in person? Gah, nooo.

What's the last rebellious thing you done? Uhhh, I don't know. I'm not the most rebellious type of person.

What's the most important lesson you've learned in the past year? You would think it would be not to ignore or neglect things and take better care of myself before shit gets really bad, which yes, I have been making some changes, but for some things it's a lesson learned a little too late and has caused major setbacks. There's also things I should/could be doing but aren't because I just can't seem to get my shit together. It's a real struggle right now to say the least. I can't seem to do enough. It's scary.

Do you own any tiny versions of larger things? Yeah. I love that kind of stuff, it's so cute.

What are 2 things you'd tell your child self that you wish you would've known then? Just take care of yourself. A lot of things could have easily been done to prevent some of what led up to this. I was just negligent and stubborn and lazy. I thought I could ignore some things and they'd just go away or that they weren't that important and I'd be fine.

How is your day going? It's only 3:35AM, but today is doctor appointment day and right now with how things are going these days just brings added stress, depression, and anxiety. Why do I need to go again? I already know what will be said, which is the same thing as the past few weeks. I need to muster up the energy for that? Nah, I'd like to just stay home. Sigh.

Are there words you struggle pronouncing? Yeah.

What's one of your favorite memories related to an animal? Memories with my doggos growing up and currently. My little Leia has been extra sweet during this time. She's been spending more time in my room with me. It's also a bit worrisome because dogs sense things, so my anxiety-ridden self can't help but think like, "are you just being loving and comforting or do you know something I don't? …."

How many people have you been around today? So far, I've just been around my mom. Later on I'll be around her, my dad, my brother, my doctor, my nurse, likely a couple people in the waiting room, and people at the store if I feel up to going.

Do you suffer from any mental illnesses? Yes.

Have you ever had to have a tooth cut out? I've had teeth pulled, yes.
