Journey to the West Chapter 33
Sun Wukong when he gets that third mountain dropped on his head:
Tumblr media
In this chapter of Journey to the West with @journeythroughjourneytothewest we continue to see how the gang fairs against the Gold And Silver Horned demon's and their mysterious treasures. So let's get into it shall we?
We start his chapter checking in on how Pigsy's doing with the whole being captured thing. The demon proudly shows off Pigsy to his brother, and although they determine that he's not the monk they really want, Tripitaka, they decide to pickle him anyways. Sucks to be Pigsy.
Anyways we cut back to the others wondering where Pigsy is. Tripitaka is starting to get worried, but Monkey assures him that if there was actually anything dangerous Pigsy would have fled back to them at the first sign of trouble, and he's probably still just meandering about really slowly, so they should be able to catch up with him no problem. So the group starts heading down the path hoping to run into Pigsy on the way.
Meanwhile the Silver Demon has headed out once again to look for Tripitaka with fifty minion demons accompanying him. The Silver Demon spots him soon enough and points him out to his minion demon's several times, causing Tripitaka to shudder each time. Not knowing why he's feeling a disturbance in the force, Tripitaka asks Sandy and Monkey. Sandy thinks he just has an upset stomach but Monkey thinks he's just scared of the spooky mountain, and offers to put on an martial arts display for Tripitaka. Monkey's little show has the added benefit of greatly intimidating the watching demons.
The Silver Demon knows he won't be a match for Sun Wukong, but the minion demon's are much more eager to try, suggesting they get the whole army together to gang up on him. The Silver Demon points out that that is a bad idea, because Sun Wukong is very good at killing large amounts of minion demons like them. Not sure what else to do the minion demons ask if they should just return Pigsy if they can't get to Tripitaka anyways.
The Silver Demon isn't ready to give up so easily though, and has a plan to use Tripitaka's compassion against him. So the Demon transforms himself into a elderly Daoist with a broken leg and throws himself into the pilgrims path begging for them to save him. Tripitaka of course instantly goes over to help, and surprisingly Monkey who totally knows this is a demon lets him. I guess he's learned his lesson from the Lady Bone Demon not to immediately smack demons disguised as demon's in front of Tripitaka.
Anyways the Demon spins some tale about being attacked by a tiger, and asks for their help in getting back to his temple. Tripitaka see's that he can't walk so he offers his horse. The Demon insists that he's to injured to ride a horse, so next Tripitaka offers to have Sandy carry him. The Demon refuses on account of Sandy being to scary looking, but accepts when Tripitaka offers to let Monkey carry him, despite Monkey being the more terrifying of the two, which Sandy even points out.
Anyways Monkey gladly puts the demon on his back- and then happily informs him that he knows he is a demon, and that he may be able to fool Tripitaka but he can't fool him. Anyways he agrees to carry the demon to prevent Tripitaka from getting mad at him, but he gets grumpier and grumpier about it the longer it goes on. So Monkey decides to walk slower so that Tripitaka and Sandy can get ahead of him, so that he can finally throw the demon off of him and kill it.
The Demon sensing his intentions decides it's now or never, and uses a spell to summon a mountain to drop on top of Sun Wukong. Wukong however casually carries the mountain on one of his shoulders and continues to chase after the demon. So the demon summons another mountain to drop on top of him, only for Sun Wukong to catch it on his other shoulder and continue to chase him. However the third mountain is the straw that breaks the camels back and actually manages to pin him down.
With Monkey taken care of for the time being, The Demon goes to grab Tripitaka and Sandy. Sandy manages to fend off the first attack, but is overwhelmed soon enough so the two of them plus the horse are all captured. The Demon then drags them all back to his cave and proudly shows off his score to his older brother. His brother isn't to pleased however since the most dangerous member of this party isn't here. After all if they eat all of Sun Wukong's friends before they capture him, he will definitely come after all of them.
The Silver Demon however is all like 'pfft, you worry to much, Sun Wukong is only so-so, I already captured him and have him pinned under three mountains!' The Golden Demon is relieved to hear it, but he doesn't want Sun Wukong pinned under three mountains forever, he'd much rather bring him here to be steamed with the others. He doesn't feel the need to send himself or his brother for this task however, after all what are minions for? So he summons two minion demon's and let them borrow two of the sacred treasures, the Red Gourd of Purple Gold, and the Pure Mutton-Jade Vase. He also gives the demons instructions on how to use the vase, he says that if they call out his name and he answers he will be sucked into the vase and melted down.
Meanwhile Monkey is having a super bad time trapped under a mountain again. While Monkey's crying about his and the other's fate, his distress catches the attention of the local gods, and the gods of the mountains on top of him. All the gods have a quick conference where they reveal to the mountain gods just who exactly they have pinned down. The mountain gods start freaking out because they unknowingly just pinned The Great Sage Equal To Heaven, and he is definitely going to kill them when he gets out. The other gods calm down the mountain gods and tell them to try talking to Sun Wukong, and hopefully if they move the mountains they can get him to agree not to beat them.
So the gods go up to Sun Wukong and ask his permission to remove the mountains in exchange for being pardoned. So Sun Wukong of course agree's and is freed but then asks to let them all hit them twice to relieve his misery anyways. The Gods beg for mercy and explain that the demon's have magic to summon them and that they even have to take turns to be on duty. Sun Wukong is actually rather disturbed to hear this, after all even at his worse even he never actually tried to make any gods his servants. Instead he just threatens gods into doing what he wants when he needs it.
Luckily for the mountain god however Monkey see's a light in the distance and asks about it. The gods explain that it's probably the sacred treasures and that someone is probably coming to capture him more securely. Monkey thinks this sounds like a great time, so he tells the gods he will postpone their punishment and that they are free to leave.
So Monkey decides to take a leaf out of the Demon's book and disguises himself as an old daoist and waits on the rode for the minion demons, making sure to trip one of them as they walk by. Anyways so Monkey introduces himself as an immortal Daoist and asks them what they are doing. The demons explain that they are on their way to capture Sun Wukong using these sacred treasures that will suck him inside when he answers their call. So Sun Wukong asks to see them, and the demon's hand them over, and Sun Wukong loves them, and resolves to have them. However he can't just *take* them. What would committing robbery in broad daylight do to his reputation?! Instead Monkey decides he'll do a completely fair trade instead.
So Monkey returns the vases and offers to show them his treasure. Monkey then takes one of his hairs and transforms it into a gourd and claims it bottle up heaven itself. The Demon's are a bit skeptical that it can actually bottle up heaven, but are totally willing to trade if it can.
So Monkey summons some gods and tells them to take a message to the Jade Emperor for him. Tell him that he needs to bottle up heaven for a little while no pressure, but if he refuses Monkey will start another war. The Jade Emperor of course isn't to psyched about this, but Prince Nezha convinces him that since Sun Wukong is helping Tripitak they really should help him out with this. Besides they don't actually have to bottle heaven, simply blackening out the sky should do well enough to fool a couple of demons.
So Prince Nezha borrows a banner of black feathers from the Lord of the North and goes down to earth to help Sun Wukong. One of the deities inform him that Nezha is here to help, so without further ado Sun Wukong recites a spell to contain heaven itself. On his cue, Prince Nezha unfurls the banner completely blacking out they sky and casting the world into darkness. The Demon's believe that he really bottled up heaven and beg him to restore it. So Sun Wukong cues in Prince Nezha to turn the lights back on.
The Demons are of course very eager to trade, and Sun Wukong even has them sign a contract saying that they won't regret it. After all Monkey knows that he sure won't. Since they don't have any paper however Monkey settles for a vow, the demon's vow that if they ever come to regret their decision may they be stricken with plague! Monkey makes the same vow. With that done, Monkey takes his leave of them and thanks Prince Nezha for his help.
