Erectile Dysfunction Overview:
Erectile dysfunction is a multidimensional but common male sexual dysfunction characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual activity. Erectile dysfunction (also known as impotence) can have psychological consequences as it can be tied to relationship difficulties and self-image. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) consensus development conference in 1993, defined Erectile dysfunction as ‘the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance”.
It involves an alteration in any of the components of the erectile response, including organic, relational and psychological. Roles for nonendocrine (neurogenic, vasculogenic and iatrogenic) and endocrine pathways have been proposed.
A physical cause can be identified in about 80% of cases. These include cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, neurological problems such as following prostatectomy, hypogonadism, and drug side effects. Psychological impotence is where erection or penetration fails due to thoughts or feelings; this is somewhat less frequent in about10% of cases. In psychological impotence, there is a strong response to placebo treatment. The term erectile dysfunction is not used for other disorders of erection, such as priapism.
Erectile dysfunction is characterized by the regular or repeated inability to achieve or maintain an erection of sufficient rigidity to accomplish sexual activity. It is defined as the "persistent or recurrent inability to achieve and maintain a penile erection of sufficient rigidity to permit satisfactory sexual activity for at least 3 months. The severity of erectile dysfunction is often described as mild, moderate or complete.

IE11 and Edge offers a new feature called Enterprise mode. "Compatibility mode" refers to compatibility with legacy proprietary behavior. 27.9.15 | Integrated Practices: To Blog Or Not To Blog
The idea of utopia and tips of icebergs has been bandied about the Colab space for weeks now, with the core message to look deeper, think wider, push further. How I failed to realise that this was going to lead to Foucault, I do not know, but now I’m here I am more than willing to expostulate with doing this post in the first place.
The questions posed by James, a cog in the wheel of our panoptic society, asked:
What are the discourses inter-disciplinarity?
Who are the subjects of inter-disciplinarity?
What is the nature of interdisciplinary knowledge?
I may or may not answer these questions. But first, I want to point to the fact that I, and 69 other students, are currently furiously writing posts to answer these questions because we were told to. Why are we listening to, and then stressing about fulfilling, the requests of some largely unknown stranger? Our free thought stopped when we took heed to this request and, like good little soldiers, marched off to our computers to furiously read the prescribed materials, and write posts that we hope will be what the teacher wants so that we get a good mark.
Do any of us actual want to do this? Do any of us care about the topic? Do we feel that we are benefiting from what we have learned? Have we taken a critical eye and truly thought for ourselves?
Well, from the amount of digitised groaning, I suspect many, if not all, would prefer not to do this assignment. Yet they do. What does that tell us about society, power and knowledge?
At this point, I must admit that a well known ditty has popped into my head: “little boxes, little boxes, little boxes made of ticky-tacky! Little boxes, little boxes, and they all look just the same…”.
We pay money to go to university to learn from people that paid money to go to university to learn from people that paid money… you get the point. The cyclical nature of knowledge is one that is dangerous and forever binding. Those who have dared to step outside the hamster wheel of social and historical constructs - which determine how we live, who has power, what is right, wrong and what is true and worthy of learning - have found themselves labeled outcasts and deviants, robbed of the necessities needed to flourish and survive.
Foucault had a stroke of genius when he took Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon and used it as a metaphor for how society was constructed and self-disciplined. From the moment we are born we are studied by those around us and trained to act, speak and think in ways that conform to the long held beliefs of what is good dictate. We are bread and nurtured to aim for, and want, the same things, and to then perpetuate these behaviours and ideals through future generations.
And the most innocuous teachings that is handed down, is that we must be judgemental. We must judge ourselves, our neighbours and strangers. We must judge those who are right, and those who are wrong. We must reprimand, punish and force remedy upon those who do not meet our standards. Anyone different, who does different, who thinks different must be banished.
And thus, as the world watches, we go to school. And we learn what they tell us to learn. And we do as they tell us to do. But with words such us “freedom” and “rights” seared into the pages of our constitutions and other documents of ridiculous reverence, we somehow believe that we are autonomous beings, made completely from our own doing. “We do as we choose!” No. No we don’t.
I think I’ve quoted this lyric before, but Devo had it right when they sang “Freedom of choice, is what you got. Freedom from choice, is what you want”. Because isn’t it funny that many of those who think they have turned their backs against the constructs of society, form or join gangs which have rules and hierarchies to abide by, thus perpetuating known constructs.
And there will always be someone trying to break away and create their own utopia, by subjugating others to their own vision. Therefore, there can never be a one world utopian vision that all would agree upon. For, as Foucault (as cited in Schirato et al., 2012) identified, the duality of life dictates that where there is power, there will be opposition of power. Thus power has activated its own discourse against itself which has formed knowledge of power which is bipolar yet is one of the same.
But it is undeniable that knowledge is power. Yet it is also true that “power produces knowledge” (Foucault as cited in Schirato et al., 2012). Those with power decide and dictate that which constitutes our knowledge. The only reason we do what our teachers say is because they are in an authoritative position of power. Thus it is in their power to bestow upon us the knowledge they see fit. But as our individual knowledge base increases, so does our position of power.
Colab prides itself on being inter-disciplinary. But what does that mean, and is it in any way different to learning or teaching a single disciplinary field of knowledge? Perhaps through the mingling and melding of several different disciplines, our brains will in fact produce new thoughts and ideas that push beyond the boundaries that have been formed over centuries of incessant repetition of materials and ideas. It’s about fitting everywhere and nowhere at once, and thus creating that tension or friction that creates the spark that lights the fire of creativity and renewal.
Discourses of inter-disciplinarity may include thinking and believing that through knowledge is power and with greater depth and breadth of knowledge, comes even greater power. And through this inter-disciplinary approach, and the unique knowledge we gain, we can then use our power to teach the world a new knowledge and push boundaries to create a new way to think and act.
For it shouldn't be just a minority of people practicing and being subjected to discourses of inter-disciplinarity. Even in this world where our thoughts are not truly our own thoughts, and our desires are not purely from our soul, but are taught and burned within us through outside influence and persuasion, we can make a conscious effort to do things differently within the structures that preexist our birth. A good place to start is to move to rid our education system of its “dividing practices” (Schirato et al., 2012) which categorises, and in turn minimises, our knowledge and power base. And consciously removing dividing practices from society as a whole, would revolutionise the way people relate to each other and the world.
Inter-disciplinarity requires one to think differently about failure, to question right and wrong and the traditional ways of doing things. It requires one to explore and experiment, seek out the unknown and to not let boundaries hold you back. It requires communication, curiosity and collaboration.
And yes, in the end, I’ve answered the the set questions for this exercise; I always intended to.

INTERGRATIVE PRACTICE
INTERROGATION
WATER TORTURE!!
I had an idea as soon as this incredibly odd assigment was given. As you can read in my first post on the subject of interrogating an inanimate object
“Very quickly I realised trying to talk to an object that cant actually reply was kind of pointless because the very point of interrogation is to try and get information. Yelling at it wont really work because it cant hear you…or reply even if it could.”
My whole idea is to find the purpose of an object and rob it of that. In doing something like that I would successfuly take away something from it without actually destroying or harming the object.
Damaging or causing some damage to the object would according the CIA manual on human resources
“Use of force is a poor technique, yields unreliable results, may damage subsequent collection efforts, and can induce the source to say what he thinks the interrogator wants to hear.”
Instead I aim to use the highly talked about and controversial psychological torture of water torture…on a glass.
“Instead emphasize the use of psychological techniques designed to persuade the subject to furnish us with the information we desire”
The CIA document makes it clear the pscyhological over physical is a far better and more efficient way of gaining information.
“Chinese water torture is a process in which water is slowly dripped onto a person's forehead, allegedly driving the restrained victim insane. This form of torture was first described under a different name by Hippolytus de Marsiliis in Italy in the 15th or 16th century.”
I plan to drive a glass to near insanity…denying it its basic purpose. To hold water and stop it falling out. I will turn the glass on its head and slowly drip water from a tap onto the bottom of the glass. Water will slowly drip onto the base of the glass and the pool over and around it. By putting the glass in the position to fufill its integral purpose and design in life and not allowing it to fufill what it is meant to do I can push its imagined psychoogical limits.
I plan to set it up in an dark small cell and use a number of strong lights on the glass so “it cant see anything” and then slowly drip water onto it. I plan to drip both incredibly hot and cold water onto the glass to make its enviroment ever changing and make sure “it realises” that I am in control of its circumstances and that once I get my desired information I may release it.
Although that terrible cliche of only being alive as long as your useful…maybe the glass will never give up any information because it realises that once it does it may die.

Intergrative practice > Inter-disciplinarity
What are the discourses inter-disciplinarity?
In most academic courses, there are strict boundaries or discourses that those courses stick to. Certain things that tutors teach, certain rules and guidelines about what information is useful in regards to that academic dicipline. Interdisciplinary courses bridge the gap between two academic diciplines and utilize knowledge and discourses from both diciplines in order to bring new information and studies forth.
Who are the subjects of inter-disciplinarity?
Academic discourses define the “teacher” and “student/subjects” through titles such as “Dr” and “Prof”. Because of these titles, a hirachy of knowledge is established; those with a “greater” title are seen to have more knowledge and thus are “over” the others. So in a way; knowledge establishes power, which in turn establishes knowledge.
What is the nature of interdisciplinary knowledge?
In academic discourses, the nature of knowledge is “given” (taught) to those of greater power than the subject. The teacher gains power through knowledge. However, I personally think that interdisciplinary courses do not work the same way as most other academic discourses. Collaboration plays a very large role in gaining knowledge in interdisciplinary dicourses and i think this then challenges the typical way knowledge is gained in other academic discourses.
Who decides in utopia?
I do not think that utopia can be decided by a single person, or by anyone at all. Utopia is the idea of a perfect world, however, humans are very different and my “perfect world” would be different to your ideas on perfection. In a utopia, everyone shares the same image of perfection, which thus makes it perfect and a utopia. However, there is a flaw with this, if everyone thinks the same - there is no individuality in the world - something that makes earth and society so interesting. In a world without individuality, there would be no interest, thus making it not a utopia. So I do not think that utopia could ever exist because of people’s conflicting ideas about perfection and even if it did exist, it wouldn’t be a utopia because there would be no individuality.

Preparing the Mail.
vine
Here’s the video I promised myself when I see I would do my interrogation a bit differently.
As you can see in the video, the splotches angle to how the ball was hit by the racket. This felt like I had alot less control over what outcome I got on the paper which felt like I was exploring better and experimenting better, which is great.
I’m going to send out the paper with the paint on it by rolling it up in a cylinder cardboard thing and then send it like that, or maybe just in an envelope but that’s boring.
Also yes, I did use Vine for this. I actually really liked it because it was quick and easy and I didn’t have to edit it. I might keep using it in the future!

Critical comments
Steven - You should think about making a digital report from the images you got from the head phones that came out all stringy. Would be a cool sound track.
Amy - great idea, worked real well but maybe next time when you get bored of doing something, try add something new to what you got.
Sujay - Trippy video clip but I think you need to be a little more distinctive about what you were interrogating.

MULTIPLE WORLDS REFLECTION - ETHAN
QUANTITATIVE - ETHAN DAYA
Do I still need to be quantitative still...am I still thinking in numbers...or do I get the chance to be analytical and look at the broad spectrum of what we have accomplished. Im going to guess the latter and if I’m wrong then blame it on the transdisciplinary model and its effect of my work ethic and processes.
This was without a single doubt in my interdisciplinary mind the most out there and alternative project I have ever worked on in my entire life. It was a very interesting style of assignment with equally as interesting and frustrating content. However this did definitely push me a long way out of my comfort zone.
This assignment was all about maintaining our disciplinary positions whilst working in an inter/trans/multi/intra disciplinary framework. This in reality is a near impossible process as our understanding are all formed by the use of all the types of knowledge we discussed. This is probably what the intention of this assignment was; to show us that the greatest results were not seen in the individual closed work but in the trans elements in which we are completely mixed and immersed in multiple disciplines.
The qualitative role I was assigned was ten times more difficult than I’d imagined. I struggled to find real resources to back up the theories and ideas proposed by my fellow team members. I really had to rely on them to point me in a different direction and give me ideas from their research to look for new facts. This meant that the more I tried to maintain my position the more isolated and difficult to work with I became.
Our best definitely arose out of collaborations; this was evident in the discussions we had together in the latter stage of our work as Hayden, Tim and I drummed out our knowledge and how they worked together, Kryten and I discussed the effects of dreams and our emotional influence. Without this collaboration and evolution from multi to intra / trans we would have never been able to come up with the ideas we did.
I think what we did well as a group was the contributions to each other and the latter development. It was evident to me very early on that the original idea of everyone researching on their own was a very bad idea because it meant we were all spiralling off in random directions and weren't actually trying to legitimise a point...which was our problem.
Our final idea of testing people to prove what reality they were in seems kinda cool and I was quite pleased with the highly simple logic and black and white facts I could use to back it up. But realistically its highly theoretical and there’s no proof or a hive coexistent mind, other temporal dimensions or dream states...its all theoretical.
As I’ve said before in the land of quantitative this would be a solid fail. But it isn't just about me; marginalizing our positions isn't necessarily done by working or learning about other ideas. Maybe its the reverse but the more knowledge we observe in order to help us understand our own hat or knowledge goal would be highly beneficial.
I did enjoy this project especially the way we transferred from one field or way of collaboration. We began as mulit, transformed to intro and finished in the creation of a single trans outcome with input from each team member to form what we believe in some ways to be true.

Reflective look into Integrative Practice.
After today's presentations I was very happy to see all sorts of crazy idea to be presented with a sense of uncertainty. This sense of uncertainty proved to me that this project was a success in trying to make us explore endless possibilities to find a form of answer. It was good to see how each person carried out their persona and what type of results came to be from combining the uncertainties of everyone in the group. In the last few week I didn't understand why a persona was necessary but after seeing how it limited the input of each member, I could really see where the creativity came from each mind set.
I really enjoyed this paper because it really opened my mind to keep questioning my questions. From this I learnt that you don't WANT a utopia or a distopia to exist, otherwise questions are stopped being asked, and that’s when people stop evolving as a species. This paper has helped me think about life on a new level. In this last semester Clint and James really proved to me how small the world is, yet how primitive we still are because people hit a point then stop asking questions. I am very satisfied to say I will now forever continue looking for new answers from the answers I’ve already solved. I can look at answers I got from all these different points of views, and learning disciplines to constantly expand knowledge about anything. I guess its safe to say ill never get to the bottom of the iceberg, but drowning in knowledge is what the life journey is all about.

INTERROGATION - INTERGRATIVE PRACTICE (finally)
[ALL PHOTO CONTENT OF THE INTERVIEW PROCESS WAS UNFORTUNATELY (and annoyingly thanks again Yoobee for that one) LOST IN THE FORMATTED HARD DRIVE]
Incredibly inspired by the CIA handbook (only slightly though) I wanted to do something to my inanimate object that would change its response to my “questioning” or interviewing of the subject.
After much deliberation and deviation from my previous water torture idea I decided to interview a keyboard and planned to pluck its keys one by one in a decidedly quite malicious way…all for the creative process of course.
I began by connecting the keyboard to my computer (and waiting 15 minutes for apple to recognise the cheap windows keyboard) and typing in a single phrase; “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog !@#$%^&*() 1234567890” in order to establish a base phrase which used all the letters in the alphabet as well as the most commonly used non alphabetical characters. I also made the decision to separate the numerical keys above the qwerty keyboard from the numerals on the right hand side of the keyboard.
I then used a random number generator with a range of 1 - 47 which was the total number of keys I was going to pull from the keyboard as these were the ones being used for the repeated message of the keyboard.

The interrogation lasted a number of different rounds of physical manipulation to tell the secrets the keyboard was hiding. After multiple attempts to get a new message out of the keyboard I found its message to be highly illegible with huge chunks missing from its mutterings.

I actually quite enjoyed being able to work on this assignment despite it taking such a long time to post about thanks to a huge number of uncontrollables…
It was interesting to look at getting information from a situation or individual in a different or unique way based on the way in which it works and responds to interaction; be it a sullen or shy child who doesn’t want to talk and might prefer texting a conversation; or an animal who might communicate with a subject without seeing them and only hearing them if they feel threatened by humans.

Where in the World is James Charlton.
Today I learned about the six degrees of seperation. It’s a theory of how everything in the natural world is connected somehow. With this theory you could possibly find a specific being by using these connections.
So this week I’m going to redo my interrogation, according to what I said I would do next time I’m going to do it. After the interrogation, I’m going to package up those pieces of paper and mail them overseas to see if they reavh James Charlton.
What do I know about James?
Well I know that he is an artist, and he has a family. Facebook honestly didn’t tell me much but he does have his own website.
Picking up the Breadcrumbs.
First I hit facebook, the most obvious place to check when your wanting information about someone, their public profile.
I found out that he went to Berlin to see an exhibition. I also found out that at 11:30 am today, he visited a cafe in Berlin about 3 hours ago. But not only that, he went with two other people, Lisa Osborn and Chris Danowski.
So since I couldn’t find any other specific information about where James might specifically be in the region around the cafe. I checked out his connections. Lisa Osborn has nothing on her profile so that didn’t help, but Chris had some interesting things.
Chris Danowski visited a place in Berlin at which another person commented that they’ve been there a week prior. So I checked out his profile, Nathan Tylutki, to see if there were any more clues.
That’s as far as I’ve gotten but I am reaching a point that I might send my package to.

OUTCOME DEVELOPED! -ETHAN
QUANTITATIVE - ETHAN DAYA
Our outcome for this journey has now been finished and developed. We have created an audio visual test for our point of knowledge.
Logic says that once you are asleep you can’t fall asleep again; or from what is know to us quantitatively / qualitatively anyway. Our test uses audio and visual aids to cause sleep. Tim has created a sound piece using theta and delta waves which are the waves produced during dreams and nightmares. The piece also uses sounds the brain associates with calmness and this calm process is needed to begin to enter into the REM (Dream stage) part of our sleep.
The video i have created using on screen text as well as subliminal messaging to get across to the audience that they should begin to fall asleep. The onscreen text displays that they will soon to begin to feel sleepy and the subliminal messaging gets progressively more and more intense until you can sometimes see the flicker of the message if you look very closely.
Sometime we discussed previously was his work for Air New Zealand in which he created a video for long haul flights to help people sleep; he used these same waves of sound to induce sleep. He told us about how another important factor in making people sleep was the placebo. The video said it would make them fall asleep and our brains respond by accepting the command and sleep.
Our test says that if you cant sleep then we know you are in your dream reality. However I as the quantitative thinker must look for the statistics and numbers around the effects of our test. I am not sure how long we will actually get to test the theory as we will need to setup as well as turning off all lights and shutting all the blinds as well as getting the class to shut all their devices off and become very calm and silent.

I think our test will be successful as long as someone admits to being sleepy. The likelihood that everyone stays awake is high however the length of time they need to be subjected to this to fall asleep as well as a number of other uncontrollables mean that if someone begins to feel sleepy when others feel completely awake will provide some proof of our theory...but as the quantitative thinker id have to regard that as hearsay until further research can be done!
I’m excited for what Monday brings and what the outcomes of our test!
