Open Book Exams For CA’s to be Introduced in 2017
Students appearing for final exams of Chartered Accountancy will have facility of open book exam from 2017. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India(ICAI) which is restructuring the entire curriculum has suggested open book exams for the final year. “We do not want to test the memory of students but his understanding of the laws”, said ICAI president Manoj Fadnis. He said that the draft of the new curriculum had already been put on the board’s website and it is likely to be finalized by the year end. The new course will be implemented from 2016. Fadnis was here in the city to chair the convocation programme of the western region of ICAI where about 350 students clearing CA final were awarded degrees. T V Mohandas Pai was the Chief Guest of the programme. He exhorted students to use modern technology to keep pace with the growing markets. Fadnis said that students get good placement offers. In campus placement programme February- March 2015 the highest salary for domestic posting was Rs.21.50 lakh and for international is was Rs.30 lakh yearly. Three more branches of the institute will be set up soon. These include two at Haridwar and Haldwani in Uttarakhand and one in Kalaburgi (Gulbarga) in Karnataska. The total number of branches of ICAI has reached 150.
CA IPCC CLASSES IN PUNE :- Murli Pai, chairman of board of studies of ICAI, president of Ahmedabad branch Amrish Patel and others were present on the occasion. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will introduce open book examination system from 2017.  This decision was announced at ICAI on Friday. Other initiatives and ICAI’s future plans were also discussed at the meeting. There are three phases in CA examinations-first, second and third phase, which are the final exams. The open book system will be implemented in the third phase. If all goes well, the new syllabi policies will be prepared by the end of 2015 and students appearing for 2016 exams will be under transitional provision, meaning, they can either opt for the existing scheme or the open book scheme. However, the open book system will be made compulsory from 2017. The main aim behind introducing the open book system is to minimise rote learning methods and not check the students’ memory power. All India president of ICAI, CA Manoj Fadnis, said, “We change the syllabus every 10 years as per industry requirements. Topics relevant to business, trade and commerce will be made part of the syllabus. Right now, we are in talks with industry experts on their needs and expectations from CAs before framing the syllabus.” He then added, “We expect a bill on Goods Service and Tax to be passed soon during monsoon.  Since independence, it is the largest tax reform. If passed, we will include it in the syllabus.” ICAI may also include International Financial Reporting Standards in the finals of CA only if the central government gives permission for it. They are also thinking of making a few changes in Common Proficiency Test (CPT) syllabus. According to statistical analysis, 5-10% of the students who clear CPT pass the finals in three years whereas 25-30% pass the finals in three-five years. However, there will not be any changes in the Integrated Professional Competence Course.

As local weather change depletes forests, Meghalaya turns to villages for revival
As he walked across the sacred forest grove, authorities pump operator and village council member Borhlang Blah, 27, recalled a time when it rained at the least as soon as through the summer season monsoons for 9 days and 9 nights with no break.
All the pieces got here to a standstill: adults skipped work, youngsters skipped faculty, and markets stayed shut in Blah’s house village of Mawphlang, an hour’s drive from Shillong, capital of the northeastern state of Meghalaya.
The rain of 9 days and 9 nights is now a childhood reminiscence, decreased to not more than two or three days at a stretch.
“The adjustments in rainfall impacts our crops,” stated Blah, who will get his final title from the native Blah tribe, conventional protectors of the 200-acre sacred grove, which is the dimensions of 150 soccer fields and provides a cornucopia of medicinal crops, pink rhododendrons and towering oaks. “The orange is now not as candy because it was as soon as, and the dimensions of the fruits that we develop is way smaller.”
At first look, the information don’t seem to report Mawphlang’s reducing rain: The monsoon rainfall over Meghalaya–literally, abode of the clouds–was unchanged for 32 years to 2012, and the annual rainfall elevated 11.5 mm per yr, in response to a 2017 Indian Institute of Expertise – Gandhinagar (IIT) research. The typical temperature rose 0.031 deg C yearly over these 32 years.
Rainfall in Cherrapunji–one of the wettest areas of the world–has gone up. This variation is just not uniform throughout the state of Meghalaya. Some areas have registered a drop in rainfall ranges, in keeping with the intense climate occasions an IPCC report warned about. Supply: NOAH, an utility that tracks rainfall and floor water adjustments utilizing satellite tv for pc information.
“It is a vital rise,” stated NH Ravindranath of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, co-author of a 2018 report that studied adjustments in Meghalaya’s forests. “IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] experiences discuss of temperature adjustments of 1.5 to 2 levels however over centuries. This variation was in only a few many years.”
What has occurred in Meghalaya, stated specialists, is in keeping with global-warming traits: “rainfall variability” has elevated, which means because it turns into hotter, the rain is extra unsure than ever earlier than, with extra intense rain and extra dry days.
As one among India’s greenest states with 80% of its space beneath forests and bushes, 3 times the Indian common, Meghalaya is exclusive and uniquely weak, and most weak are its irreplaceable rainforests, the survival of which holds classes for the remainder of India.
That is the sixth story in our sequence on India’s climate-change hotspots (you possibly can learn the primary story right here, the second right here, the third right here, the fourth right here and the fifth right here). The sequence combines reporting with the newest scientific analysis and explores how persons are adapting to the altering local weather.
From native custom to world funding
In Mawphlang, Blah’s father and village secretary Tambor Lyngdoh is a part of the Khasi Hills Group REDD+ Mission, which began in 2007 as a village motion to revive and strengthen sacred groves by ensuring the bushes weren’t minimize, the produce, equivalent to fruit and mushroom, was untouched, and animals weren’t poached.
The Mawphlang mission has obtained worldwide funding since 2011 and is India’s first REDD mission, a United Nations programme to mitigate the influence of deforestation and forest degradation in creating international locations.
When forests are minimize, massive quantities of carbon dioxide (CO2) are launched into the environment and temperatures rise. Human actions have already warmed the world by 1 deg C, in response to a September 2018 report by the IPCC, the world physique for assessing science associated to local weather change.
Mawphlang is the biggest of about 200 sacred groves in Meghalaya, and its preservation–the authorities hopes–will be an exemplar of what’s attainable. Over eight years, the mission has expanded to 62 villages by involving native councils referred to as Himas; the goal is to revive 27,00Zero hectares of forests–that’s roughly the dimensions of Pune. “If sacred groves have been to increase to all the Meghalaya we will reverse the harm brought on by local weather change,” stated Lyngdoh. The Meghalaya authorities, which works carefully with Lyngdoh, in 2018 obtained World Financial institution funding to handle its sources higher. Utilizing this cash, the federal government hopes to supply incentives–whether money or otherwise–to communities, so that they shield patches of forests in village backyards.
The urgency for Meghalaya is obvious.
Over 16 years to 2016, practically half of Meghalaya’s forests skilled an “enhance in disturbance”, and round 1 / 4 are actually “extremely weak” to the influence of local weather change, discovered a 2018 research commissioned by the state authorities and carried out by the IISc. The forests are disturbed by infrastructure tasks and logging, and as soon as that occurred, restoration is tough, stated specialists.
Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram in Meghalaya proceed to obtain a few of the highest rainfall on the earth, however monsoon rainfall patterns have deviated from the long-term imply over 32 years, the IIT Gandhinagar research discovered. The East Khasi Hills, house to Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram, have confronted 5 to 6 drought years over this era, in comparison with three to 6 years for the remainder of the state, stated the IIT Gandhinagar research.
Aside from Meghalaya, forests decreased in eight different states and three union territories in India over two years, in response to a 2017 Forest Survey of India report. Odisha (885 sq km), Assam (567 sq km) and Telangana (565 sq km) confirmed the best decline in forest cowl, every shedding forests practically the dimensions of the town of Bengaluru or extra.
“Forests in the entire of MP and people in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and even Karnataka are liable to forest fires, have low density and the natural carbon within the soil could be very low,” stated BK Tiwari of the Division of Environmental Research at North Jap Hill College (NEHU). “These kind of forests usually are not sustainable or wholesome.”
Total forest cowl in India has elevated, formally, by 6,778 sq km or practically twice the dimensions of Goa–as per information that rise from a flawed definition of “forest cowl”, as FactChecker reported in July 2019. A part of this rise is attributed to afforestation measures and plantations. “Plantations usually are not biodiverse,” stated Tiwari. “In contrast to pure forests they’re neither steady nor sustainable. They are often referred to as equal to a forest however not equal.”
A part of the explanation for India’s receding forests is a long-running battle over possession between the federal government and 200 million Indians who dwell in these forests. When in February 2019 the Supreme Courtroom ordered the eviction–the judges later stayed their very own orderof forest dwellers from their conventional properties, a nationwide controversy broke out as a result of the federal government’s rejection of 46% of land-right claims was flawed and, usually, unlawful, as IndiaSpend reported in March 2019.
Meghalaya, as we stated, is exclusive as a result of nearly all of the forest land is managed by its individuals. However that has not stopped the march of deforestation and local weather change.
Papayas in Shillong and different issues
On a February morning chilly sufficient to require a thick jacket, Blah pointed to the empty areas between the thinning bushes of Mawphlang’s sacred grove, untouched stands of rain and different forest.
“As a toddler I wasn’t capable of stroll round right here with out a number of bushes getting in the way in which,” stated Blah. Towering oak, rhododendron and khasi pine bushes nonetheless block out direct daylight within the depths of Mawphlang’s sacred grove, the most effective protected, in response to research.
You may enter Meghalaya’s sacred groves on just one situation: Nothing might be taken out.
This rule has enabled Meghalaya–roughly 15 occasions the dimensions of Delhi–to retain its inexperienced cowl. Meghalaya stands aside from different states in India as a result of greater than 90% of forests are owned and guarded by its individuals and never by the federal government.
Sandwiched between Assam within the north and Bangladesh within the south, Meghalaya is part of the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot–one of the most threatened biodiversity hotspots in India after the Himalayas–due to speedy useful resource exploitation and habitat loss.
The hills of the japanese sub-Himalayas–Garo, Khasi and Jaintia–run by means of most of Meghalaya, and the remainder of the panorama is a excessive plateau.
Whereas most of India receives 801 to 1,500 mm of rainfall within the monsoon months, Meghalaya receives double of that, in response to the 2019 information from the India Meteorological Division (IMD). There’s a extensive variation in rainfall inside Meghalaya. Some areas like Cherrapunji–once well-known because the wettest area on Earth–receive as much as 12,00Zero mm of rainfall yearly, about 5 occasions the quantity Mumbai will get.
  The Disturbed Forests Of Meghalaya
Half of the the state’s forests are “extraordinarily disturbed” because of the influence of local weather change, in response to a research by scientists from the IISc-Bangalore. Supply: Evaluation of the Impression of Local weather Change on Forests and Biodiversity of Meghalaya
When locals began complaining of a perceptible distinction in rainfall and warm-weather crops like papaya appeared over the past decade in Shillong–where the typical day temperature is 17 deg C–the authorities commissioned an investigative research.
“We regarded on the information, ranging from the yr 2000, as a result of we’ve good satellite tv for pc photos for that interval,” stated Rajiv Kumar Chaturvedi, an assistant professor on the Birla Institute of Expertise, Pilani in Goa, and a co-author of the IISc research referred to earlier. Information have been additionally collected manually from 300 areas statewide to know the impacts of adjusting local weather on biodiversity.
“The locations the place we noticed most forest degradation have been the locations with probably the most biodiversity,” Chaturvedi stated. The annual imply minimal temperature has elevated by 0.6% between 1951 and 2000, the IISc research discovered.
The fragmentation and isolation of as soon as contiguous forests due to infrastructure tasks can be why a fourth of Meghalaya’s forests are actually weak to local weather change. “Fragmented forests don’t get well from the influence of temperature and rainfall adjustments like pure forests do,” stated Ravindranath from IISc.
Improvement actions have been as a lot responsible, the research confirmed. “You may’t minimize bushes in a spot, clear forests for plantation or construct proper by means of a forest after which name [the effects] local weather change,” stated NEHU’s Tiwari.
In February 2019, a NASA picture that confirmed the earth greener than it was 20 years ago–led by India and China–went viral and was taken out of context. The rise within the greening of the planet was attributed to agriculture and afforestation, which don’t present ecological advantages, equivalent to cooling the air or supporting biodiversity, as forests do.
The biodiversity problem is especially related to Meghalaya, house to a few of India’s final stands of rainforest.
Why rainforests are essential
A sq km of rainforest can harbour as many as 1,000 totally different plant species. That’s extra plant species in Europe and North America mixed.
India’s rainforests are primarily scattered throughout the Western Ghats, alongside the nation’s western coast and elements of the Jap Ghats alongside the east coast. Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam within the northeast are the opposite areas that assist such forests.
Round 10% of Meghalaya’s forests are tropical moist evergreen forests or rainforests. A number of species of crops and animals–vultures, frogs, turtles and orchids–in Meghalaya’s rainforests are ”critically endangered” or “weak”. These are endemic to the area, discovered nowhere else on the earth.
Meghalaya’s sacred groves, a few of that are rainforests, are house to 1,886 plant species, together with orchid, bamboo, timber and medicinal crops. “Since there’s loads of daylight and water, plant productiveness in a rainforest is excessive,” stated Kenneth James Feeley, professor on the College of Miami, the place he research tropical forests and local weather change. “This enables a number of bugs and fungi to develop which in flip change into meals for different animals.”
It’s these forests that Meghalaya is shedding, a decline, the federal government hopes, might be halted by native communities.
Homestays and different advantages
In 2011, as phrase of the Mawphlang REDD+ mission unfold, sisters Icylian, 47, and Castilian Wankhar, 42, realised that conservation was drawing in additional vacationers, some from so far as Europe. They opened their properties to the vacationers, giving them one other supply of livelihood.
“The variety of vacationers has gone up up to now decade. Now we have somebody or the opposite residing with us many of the yr,” stated Castilian. Different homestays, too, have opened.
Icylian, an English schoolteacher, remembered a time when, as younger ladies, they picked mushrooms and stuffed pots of water from the ponds contained in the sacred grove.
Many of those ponds are actually drying, an indication of the forest’s ill-health.
“Forests act as a sponge,” defined the College of Miami’s Feeley. When it rains, forests take in water and launch it over a time period. As bushes are minimize, the water runs off rapidly and will increase the possibilities of floods, erosion and even droughts. “Having forests is sweet for the neighborhood that is determined by the water our bodies.” Round 60 of Meghalaya’s sacred groves are positioned on the supply of perennial streams, enjoying a vital position in soil and water conservation. “Virtually 90% of our water flows on to the neighbouring state of Assam and Bangladesh,” stated L Shabong, officer on particular obligation and head of the Institute of Pure Assets on the Meghalaya Basin Improvement Authority (MBDA). “This has impaired practically 54% of our pure springs.”
As Meghalaya’s forests skinny, elements of Bangladesh obtain extra water through the monsoon season, inflicting floods, after which face water shortage through the winter.
Adjustments In Floor Water In The North-East, 1985-2015
Satellite tv for pc information from NOAH–an on-line programme that enables customers to see adjustments in floor water and rainfall over 30 years to 2015–show that water our bodies round Meghalaya and Bangladesh, the place most of Meghalaya’s run off makes its manner, have been drying. The pink within the map signifies water our bodies which have dried over time, and the inexperienced signifies a rise in water. Black signifies no change within the quantity of floor water.
However coverage making to arrest the slide is a little bit of a shot in the dead of night.
One of many greatest challenges for Meghalaya, and different states within the northeast, is that even when they have been to gather detailed local weather information, there isn’t any analysis institute within the area to analyse these information. Solely a handful of institutes throughout India can, and that’s not sufficient to check the influence of local weather change throughout sectors, stated the IISc’s Ravindranath. He’s set to guide a pan-India research on the influence of local weather change; it is going to be prepared over the subsequent six months.
“We merely would not have the information to make knowledgeable coverage,” stated Ravindranath. “We will solely present broad traits.”
Because the traits have been clear–uncertain rain, fewer advantages from the grove–Mawphlang’s persons are passionate about reviving traditions.
The villagers are presently working collectively to determine patches of degraded forests, to which they’ll prohibit entry to permit pure regeneration. A few of the villagers are adopting patches of forests and nurturing them personally, removing, as an illustration, any new species not native to the world.
As they work with the federal government to extend provides of cooking gasoline, neighborhood leaders are additionally persuading villagers to cease utilizing firewood for cooking. A typical Khasi family consumes 15 to 20 kg of firewood each day.
Blah, too, is constructing a homestay. For a decade he, and his father, Lyngdoh, the village secretary, hosted two vacationers each evening at their properties. In 2017, they started constructing a brand new homestay. A few of the rooms are prepared, and as many as 15 vacationers can keep in a single day. Lyngdoh is happy with the livelihood alternatives that conservation affords to his individuals. “Individuals love the expertise of residing right here,” stated Lyngdoh.
However vacationer satisfaction is just part of the trouble to rejuvenate the sacred grove.
“As a state we’ve taken a lead in adapting to altering local weather, and we predict different states can be taught from us,” stated Shabong, the federal government officer at MBDA.
The sacred-grove mission has enhanced Lyngdoh’s repute, and authorities officers now seek the advice of him in the event that they want the assist of different tribal leaders. For Lyngdoh, this can be a vindication of his traditions, that the elders of his tribe knew what they have been speaking about.
“We already know find out how to preserve the forests,” stated Lyngdoh. “Now we have been doing it for hundreds of years. All we have to do is assist and assist unfold the custom.”

Can We Study When I Am In A Relationship?
Hi
My life was a mess as a student before 11th standard . I use to fail miserably in every subject (other than maths). I even use to hide my exam sheets. I have a cousin who is of my age, he was a topper. I was always given his example.
I got 7 CGP in 10th (i. e 66.5%). I asked my father that i wouldn't be getting commerce in my school with those marks, so he should look for another school for me.
If you really want better results from your studying with less effort download this free audiobook 'Unlimited Memory' and get more done in less time.
Luckily i got it because i had A2 in maths (i. e 80-90 marks). I got into 11th with commerce with maths. 1st exams failed in 4subjects (business studies, economics, accounting and maths) but passed in one(english that too got 9/20)i had all the papers in my hand and was thinking do i even deserve to sit in this class. I thought i should improve.
2 weeks later i was in relationship with a girl, she came from another school. Many of my classmates were trying to impress her, but i got lucky. She was one of the most famous one in my school. I always thought i am too lucky to have her.
1 month later i had my exams again. Again got my result passed in 3 this time and failed in 2. When i was getting my result i failed in maths, i informed my gf about it. When i got my economics paper she asked me how was it, i said just managed to clear it (as i was not seating with her this time). My teacher started calling names of the students who had failed in the exam, she called my name but i didn't stand(as i had a guy in my class whose name was also sahil, who was absent that day). But after sometime she said sahil kakkar why are you not standing. I stood up saw her, she was looking elsewhere.
That was the moment my life changed completely. As she was one of the topper of my class and was even the school's sports captain. I had to raise my standard to stay with her. I knew i wouldn't be able to be like her, but improve so that i could stay with her and atleast could face her and look into her eyes after getting my results.
Then came my next exams, passed in all. I was slowly and gradually improving. During our pre boards in 12th she failed in economics and i was teaching her. In finals i got 89.5 as my best four in 12th and she got 90. I got admission into South campus Delhi University, BBA+law in first cut off list Symbiosis University Pune, CPT (entrance exam of CA), at last i choose CA.
Today i have cleared my Ipcc (intermediate level) and finals ( group 2 of CA Final is left) all in first attempt. Will become a chartered accountant (CA) by july 2018. All through this journal she was with me untill sept 2016 when we broke up (had a relationship of 5 years with her) and even now i have a gf.
This was my story.
It all depends upon you how you take a relationship. It can change your life, the way my life did but in a positive way.
