Chapter 17

"Heizou hurry up! Just bring Maple and blanket and leave the rest in the trunk."

"Okay okay! But Maple is being fuzzy about me carrying him!" Heizou exclaimed while Maple was trying to get out of his grip by trying to scratch his face.

"Ugh I'll carry her just hurry up and open the door!" Sara yelled as she grabbed the blanket and quickly wrapped the cat inside only for its head to stick out.

They both rushed inside the hospital looking for your room.

You just sat there on the bed facing the blank white wall, not saying a single word. Your head was carefully wrapped with bandages.

Kunikuzushi went to buy some water on your request but hadn't returned yet.

You just felt empty.

That letter...

You didn't want to think about it but it kept appearing in your mind as if to taunt you.

It was her exact handwriting too.

Sure she was just a 6 year old girl and sure it had been a while since you’ve seen her write anything. So this was just all a set up... Right?

Okay so if it was faked it still couldn't explain the other thing...

On the bottom of the letter you found another line saying

'She lost her first tooth, aren’t you proud?' It was definitely not written by Hikari, but by someone else.

Right under those words were some red liquid splatters of something you didn't even want to guess..

But the tooth..

The tooth surely was real right? It felt real.. Like a real tooth... Like a kid's tooth..

The tooth was still inside the pocket of your kimono. You had shoved it in there before the police came which was probably breaking the law but whatever you would hand it in later.

But surely everything must have been a prank, right?

More uneasy thoughts filled your head and you felt as if you were about to throw up.

But before that could happen Sara and Heizou stormed inside the room, scaring the shit out of you and your cat out of their grip. She immediately jumped onto your bed and curled into your arms while you looked at your friends.

"Y/n we're so sorry we couldn't be there on time-" Heizou began and Sara continued his sentence.

"They didn't allow us to enter and it took a while to convince them to allow us to pick up Maple." Sara finished with a sigh. The both of them walked over to your hospital bed, sitting on the chair placed next to you and held your hand.

"Y/n, how are you doing..? We've received the news and the investigation has been reopened.." She spoke with a calm voice and watched your blank expression at Maple nuzzling her face into your hands.

"I.. Don't know.." You replied with honesty. Just a minute ago you were interrupted by the both of them bursting inside your hospital room, but now you were staring mindlessly at Maple.

Sara looked hesitant at what to say. She was never good at comforting you about Hikari, after all she never lost a kid before.

Heizou on the hand was somewhat better but still, both of them never had a child they loved. They never felt the feeling of losing complete hope in continuing to live on. And you kept that in mind of course.

"Let's pray for her, okay?" He spoke, trying to break the awkward silence.

You nodded slowly and silently prayed for your daughter to be okay as Heizou took your other hand. You loved her with your whole heart, a heart that could be shattered in seconds if you would receive the news she wasn't here anymore.. You still held hope that she lived even though all the evidence reduced the odds of finding her..

"I want more information." Kunikzushi stated as he sat beside a man dressed in black. He was outside with a plastic bag with two drinks standing next to a bench while talking to the person beside him who read a newspaper.

"Unfortunately it's confidential information, my friend. I can't just give it away." He spoke calmly, turning the page and continuing to read.

"Then why are you here? Just to mock me??" Kunikuzushi became more agitated with every second passing. What was Ayato doing here if not to tell him about what was going on with you?

"Until my investigation is completed I can not reveal anything. Best is, if Y/n tells it herself." He spoke and stood up, dusting the imaginary dust off his clothes.

"Now then I'll take my leave. Make sure to take good care of her." He spoke as if he too felt a sense of responsibility.

"Wait what if.. I give you more intel? Anything, I'll give you anything you want.. Money if you so desperately need it…" Kunikuzushi spoke with desperation, trying to convince Ayato into giving him information while Ayato walked without turning back or stopping.

"Apologies, unfortunately this time, I can not accept it. You have to ask her yourself about her situation. After all, you still love her even if she does not reciprocate it." Kunikuzushi clenched his fist and angrily glared at Ayato as he walked further away in the parking lot. How dared he to just dismiss him?

There was no way he could ask you about the situation. So he had to come up with something else.

Chapter 16

Multiple police cars were in front of your house and you were sitting on the grass. Kunikuzushi was by your side pulling you close to him as you looked like you could throw up any moment.

He didn't know what was on the letter because his first instinct was to grab you and comfort you as you sobbed in his arms. 

You were not allowed inside so he put his jacket around your shoulders to keep you arm and made sure it was comfortable for you to lean on him.

An elderly police officer walks towards you, hesitantly approaching you at this moment, knowing it was a bad timing but also knowing he had to question you.

"Miss, sorry to interrupt you but could I ask you a couple of questions?" He said professionally, yet uncomfortably looked away. Fumbling with his hands which didn't go unnoticed by Kunikuzushi.

Kunikuzushi was immediately glaring at the guy but you stared at the older man in front of you and nodded.

You moved your head from Kunikuzushi's shoulder to make proper eye contact with the man even though all you wanted to do is wake up from this terrible nightmare.

"Please state your name and address first."

You answered with a hoarse voice and he continued.

"Could you tell us what happened before you found the letter at your door?"

"I was.. Walking.. Towards my house and.." You struggled to continue. Not because you didn't remember, but because you didn't want to relive the moment inside your head again..

"She found the envelope on her doormat. She picked it up and opened it." Kunikuzushi, who had gotten irritated, answered as he held your hand.

"Sorry but are you Miss L/n, I don't think so?" The police officer looked a bit irritated as his interview was interrupted.

"Does it really matter now? Can't you see how traumatized she is? Are you blind or really this stupid?" Kunikuzushi yelled, now standing on both feet as well, attracting other officers to also listen in to the conversation. 

"Maybe if you would just stay out of it, this would be much easier. I'm the supervisor here and you are nothing, a nobody." 

"Oh you think you are better than me, right? You worthless shit. Have you really gone braindead to not have a single ounce of care to realize in what mental state she now is?" Kunikuzushi looked the police officer dead in the eye as he walked closer while the police officer tried to keep his distance. You tried to get up on your feet, not wanting him to escalate the situation even further. 

"Oh so now you're calling me heartless? You disrespectful piece of shit. You young people are so rude and you know I can get you arrested." He threatened back but Kunikuzushi didn't blink once. He, on the contrary, smirked and stepped forward. 

"Try me." The simple words that set off the police officer as imaginable steam came out of his ears. Other officers quickly went over to grab him in an attempt to stop him, but it didn't work. 

You too, quickly run up, ready to defend Kunikuzushi from the unbelievably corrupt police officer. Using his title and authority to try and arrest Kunikuzushi for no crime or unlawful activity was definitely a crime. 

You stumbled in front of Kunikuzushi as the police officer was about to land a hit, instead of hitting Kunikuzushi like he was aiming at, he hit you right in the head and you fell back into Kunikuzushi's arms. 

It was like a dramatic scene as you felt blood dripping your forehead to panicked people running around. 

However Kunikuzushi was shockingly also part of the  panicked people and quickly yelled at the other officers to call for an ambulance. He looked furious. A death glare was permanently on his face each time he looked at the scared police officer. 

He held you tightly in his arms and tried to stop the bleeding with his hands, even ripping off a part of his clothing to try to pressure the point of where the blood was coming out. It didn't help much and the blood was dripping down your kimono, staining the beautiful silk that was definitely worth thousands. 

You tried to keep your eyes open but struggled as the noise mixed with your pain confused and hurt your head. 

You felt your vision fading away as you saw the lights of an ambulance in the distance.

Couple of weeks earlier... 

"What do you mean the bomb has been disabled??" La Signora yelled to one of her subordinates. 

"U-uhm well we just found out this morning.." 

"Be more specific."

"Well u-uh it's last known location was thousands of kilometers from the target's home address.. And then the mark on the map just disappeared!" 

Signora sighed, trying to compose herself. 

"And why didn't you activate the bomb as soon as you picked up any movement away from her home?" 

"Nobody was watching the bomb's location at the time.." 

"WHERE WAS EVERYONE THEN?" 

"We were watching her and.." 

Signora turned around, walking towards her desk and placed both hands on there. Her subordinates looked at each other with a knowing look at what was going to happen.

They quickly shut the door as Signora screamed. They could feel the feeling of vases being thrown at them even if they weren't inside. It was not the first time this happened. 

To shake off the uncomfortable feeling they quickly left and went somewhere else to hide and hope Signora would forget about the incident.

"Those stupid fuckers always fuck up somehow.. It was such a simple task too.."

Suddenly a knock on Signora's door interrupted her anger.

"It's me~ Can I come inside?" An all too familiar voice said and Signora didn't respond.

The door opened anyway, moving the broken pieces of a vase as well as letting the person who knocked in.

"What do you want, Dottore."

"Heard you from someone you want to take revenge on our dear Balladeer~"

"Just shut the fuck up and leave-"

"How about I help you with torturing him?"

Signora raised her eyebrow in interest. She turned around facing the Doctor and crossed her arms as she looked for any sign of foolery but didn't find any.

"I'm listening."

The Doctor grinned as he already had a plan in mind. He too wanted to take revenge on Scaramouche and make him suffer, however if he wanted to do that, he had to use you, Scaramouche’s dear lover.

The Time He Lied

"Kuni.. Are you okay?" You asked as you noticed his distant face. He had been like this for the last few days, just suddenly!

He looked tired too as you could see eyebags forming under his eyelids. He sometimes dozed off during lunch time, leaning against your shoulder as you looked worryingly at him.

"I'm.. Fine.. Don't worry about it." He spoke, it was clear he wasn't being truthful to you and you weren't going to let it slide. He was your boyfriend after all and you were supposed to care for him like a real girlfriend!

You pulled him closer towards you, locking him into your arms and burying your face into his neck.

"I know you aren't telling the truth. You can't just say you're fine while looking like this.. I know you've been feeling bad the last couple of weeks but you look worse now.. I'm worried.." You spoke softly, you almost wanted to cry. You weren't enough to console him. He needed his mom. But his mom was unavailable. She was still mourning Shogun's death.

And you too. Not as much as Kuni's mom or Kuni himself but still you thought about it every night. About how you couldn't see the signs.. How you were not being a good enough friend to her.. How you couldn't safe her..

Those thoughts of your dear friend made you cry.. Kunikuzushi felt your tears staining his skin and he turned around, removing the arms from his body.

It was time for him to comfort you and he pulled you onto his chest and laid back on his bed.

"Don't cry N/n.. I don't want you to cry.." He spoke softly and rubbed circles on your back.

"S-sorry.. I'm s-sorry.." You cried out. You felt extremely guilty. You failed your friend. You were failing your boyfriend..

"I meant it earlier. I'm really fine. I was pulling a couple of all-nighters.. That's all." He lied. But you didn't know that. He sounded so sincere, tricking you into believing he was just exhausted from studying and insufficient sleep.

When in reality the last couple of nights he snuck out to a hidden Fatui lab that was established a couple of years ago..

All night long a particular doctor tested his concoctions on his body, mixing and matching until he got his desirable result.

He still had bandages wrapped around his torso but well hidden for no one to suspect.

Not even you. He didn't want you to see that side of him. So he lied. The first time he lied to you.

Did he like lying to you? Of course not! He hated it, he despised lying to you but he couldn't involve you.

So this was the start of multiple lies.. Lies that made him shelter himself from everyone little by little...

Chapter 14

Weeks passed by with no particular strange incidents. You felt way more relaxed after reading that no major incidents struck your village or the nation. Though one thing did give you restless minds: Hikari. Her birthday was coming up and you didn't know what to do for her. I mean what could you do really? 

With Kunikuzushi posing as a distraction you didn't have much time to think about Hikari as much as you wanted to because Kunikuzushi tried to cheer you up constantly, noticing your distant looks when he came by the café you worked at. 

The two of you ended up doing some picnics with Sara and Heizou accompanying you. Sara was there to just be with you while Heizou wanted to 'balance out' the group by joining as well. Then because you didn't want Maple to feel left out you also brought her with you. She enjoyed jumping around and trying to catch butterflies.

Then there were some alone walks between Kunikuzushi and you but it always became awkward after you were lost in your thoughts while walking with him. 

Slowly but surely Kunikuzushi started entering in your daily routine again  by driving you to work, picking you up from work and sometimes cooking for you. It felt like he was taking care of you but maybe you were getting delusional thinking he still loved you. The way he treated you sometimes gave you butterflies in your stomach, but you just brushed it off, thinking it was just a desperate feeling of wanting someone to take care of you.

Sometimes he would tell you he had to go somewhere for a while and you didn't mind. But when he could take care of you you would feel so much more at ease as most of your daily worries slowly disappeared. For example: waking up early to make sure you wouldn't miss the only bus that made sure you were on time for work, forgetting to get groceries or ending up skipping dinner because you would be too tired to cook. 

Working yourself tirelessly was your way of going through the days and weeks. If you focused enough you wouldn't suddenly break down out of nowhere. You knew her birthday was coming up soon and you felt so stupid about not thinking about her more. You felt exhausted knowing each day was making it less likely for her to be found back, exhausted knowing that you might have been waiting for nothing.

There were never any updates on her case from the police after that unfortunate day. Asking Heizou or Sara for information would be useless because they had no access to those files and you wouldn't want to accidentally fire them as the Tenryou police force already disliked you very much. 

Sure Kokomi had taken on the case which irritated the local police even more and Gorou made sure to tell you if there were updates but alas, there were still none till this day. 

Today was the day before Hikari's birthday and you had taken off work for the next few days, wanting to spend time alone. Thoma assured you didn't have to worry about the cafe as you were basically the second manager there and knew how everything worked. 

Sara and Heizou knew not to disturb you in your alone time and made sure to only send minimal messages to you. 

But one person made today his mission to take you out today. And it was none other than Kunikuzushi. After all, you never told him about Hikari. He surely wouldn't care about her if he left you at your worst state plus you were almost certain his opinion about kids never changed after the last incident. 

"Can't we just go somewhere next week?" Your muffled voice spoke while buried in a pillow.  

"Come on, the weather is good tomorrow!" Kunikuzushi said with much excitement. He happened to call you on your day off to go out but you felt drained. 

"But so is next week.." 

"You're always saying next week and then you forget about it.." Ah yes that was right, because you overworked yourself and mostly forgot things. Things like appointments you had to write on a calendar hanging in your living room because you would forget that as well as sending all your appointments to Sara so she could remind you. You didn't really use the calendar on your phone because you didn't like the way it looked so a paper calendar was your solution. 

"Meow~" Your cat meowed, climbed onto your bed and nuzzled her head into your hair. 

"Even your cat agrees." Kunikuzushi said, making you groan in annoyance. 

"Maple is a cat, how could she possibly understand us.. Ugh I'm tired.. I'm hanging up.." You said with a sigh, moving your hand towards the button. 

"Wait but tomorrow-" 

"We'll see tomorrow."

And you hung up before he could say anything else. 

You sighed as you threw your phone on your bed and got out of your bedroom. 

As you walked from your room to Hikari's room you noticed the faint crayon stripes and other small drawings Hikari did, with much scolding from you. 

Originally you were going to permanently remove it by painting over them, but you felt that it was like removing Hikari out of the house so you decided to keep it, even though it might have made her think she was allowed to draw on the walls.

You grabbed the key from your pocket and unlocked the door, entering it quietly. Maple, who had gotten out of bed to follow you, also walked behind you curiously. 

You picked him up and brought her to your eye view, showing her Hikari's room. 

She meowed a bit before jumping out of your arms to Hikari's neatly made up bed. Even for a cat, she did look sad as if she could sense your emotions. She just sat still and looked at you. 

You closed your eyes and breathed, trying to remember all the good times with your daughter again. 

"I miss you Hikari, please give me a sign you're still out there." You spoke as a tear slipped down your face. 

“You will.” A voice responded unbeknownst to you.

Chapter 12

It had been 30 minutes since you hid inside your room. Kunikuzushi already stopped trying to get inside and you presumed he left your house.

You looked outside your windows and sighed. The sun was setting but there were still some kids playing outside. 

They played without a care in the world and you could see them laughing. A sad smile formed on your face. You didn't know any of them personally, though you wished them a happy life. You prayed they would be kept safe and for them to return home to their families. 

You couldn't help but tear up slightly. You felt selfish for feeling jealous because of the children. Jealous because Hikari wasn't amongst them. She wasn't there happily playing with children her age. Instead, who knows where she was?

You just prayed she wasn't lonely, or felt hungry. You definitely would treat her to eat taiyaki each day when she was back, taiyaki was Hikari's favorite food after all. It was a cute fish, crispy on the outside, and sweet on the inside. Red bean paste was her favorite filling and that was to be expected from a sweet child like her. 

You didn't notice the tears that left your eyes and dropped onto your pants. You were crying. 

You quickly wiped them away and walked towards your window, wanting to open it to allow fresh air to enter your room. 

You watched as the children slowly left, most likely to go eat dinner. You hoped Hikari had dinner too. 

You leaned on the windowsill as you breathed in the fresh air. It was nearing the end of March so the flowers already started to bloom. It was beautiful to watch, especially with the many bushes and trees surrounding your house. 

Speaking of the bushes surrounding your house, you noticed them moving. You thought it was the wind but when you slightly leaned forward and squinted your eyes a tail poked out of the bush and you stumbled back in surprise. 

That definitely was a cat. But even though it was a cat, what was it doing in the bushes?? 

The tail had disappeared when you leaned over the windowsill and you let out a disappointed sigh. Only for it to jump out of the bushes towards you. You let out a scream as the cat landed onto your face. 

Kunikuzushi who had been sitting against your door for the past 15 minutes immediately got up and was banging on the door, obviously alerted by your scream. 

"Y/n! Open the door! Why did you scream??" 

Meanwhile the cat got off of your face and started to hide under your bed. You got up from the floor and wiped away the dirt from your face that the cat carried with it. 

You walked towards the door with still a bit of dirt on your face and unlocked the door quickly. As soon as it was unlocked Kunikuzushi stumbled forward but managed to save himself and not fall onto your bedroom ground. You looked at him, still feeling a bit pissed from earlier. 

"Sorry for upsetting you earlier Y/n.. I shouldn't have pressed on the matter and it wasn't my business.." He apologized with his head lowered. 

You sighed, looking at Kunikuzushi's genuine body posture and we're about to accept the apology. But before you could, the cat ran out of his hiding place and jumped on Kunikuzushi. 

He too screamed in surprise as the cat started to attack him. 

You acted quickly and pulled the wild cat away from Kunikuzushi. Kunikuzushi looked angrily at the cat who then hid its face in your chest. 

"What the fuck." A very Kunikuzushi reaction. 

"It's almost like he was punishing you for your wrongdoings." You jokingly said and started to laugh. 

Kunikuzushi, who was still visibly pissed at the creature, slowly softened his expression as he saw you laugh. 

You had such a beautiful smile. However he could sense that despite your smile, there was something bothering you. But right now wasn't the moment to ask so he wasn't going to do it. 

"You have some dirt on your face." He pointed out and walked closer towards your face. Lifting up his arm to gently wipe the dirt away as you stood there breathless. 

You felt a familiar feeling in your body and looked away, avoiding his state. 

Kunikuzushi looked past your shoulder to see the window open. The wind blew your curtains slightly so he assumed that the cat must have come from there. 

"Are you going to keep it?" Kunikuzushi asked, interrupting your thoughts. 

You looked at the cat that was nestled into your arms snugly. You moved your hand over to the head of the cat and gently patted it. 

"I think I will." Funny how the argument between the two of you ended in you finding a cat. 

"Also you're forgiven."

After and while washing the cat the two of you didn't speak of the events from earlier. That was for the better too. Being reminded that Hikari was abducted was one of the worst thoughts you could have on your mind right now. 

Kunikuzushi suddenly hissed as the cat bit him. He refrained from cursing the cat with all his vocabulary and just glared at it angrily. 

You turned on the water, making the cat jump up and slip around the bathtub. 

Kunikuzushi grabbed the cat back and put it right under the water source, washing away the soap as well as kind of traumatizing the cat as it was meowing loudly. 

The two of you then dried the cat with a fresh towel and used a hairdryer to dry its skin. All the while the cat was hissing at Kunikuzushi. 

Lastly Kunikuzushi securely held the cat who still after everything tried biting and scratching him while you applied Vaseline on its paws. 

He escaped quickly and ran back into your bedroom to hide under the bed. 

"What an ungrateful little brat." Kunikuzushi scoffed as he wiped the small droplets of blood around the scratches the cat managed to land. 

"It's just scared. The cat can't help himself but be afraid of us. After all it's a wild one.." You assumed and got up from the bath railing. You searched through the cabinet above your sink and grabbed a couple of cotton pats, wetting it before turning back to Kunikuzushi. 

"Stay still, I'm going to clean your cuts. Kunikuzushi looked unbothered as you moved closer to wipe away the blood and to clean the wound. Then you pulled some band aids from the drawer below your sink and put it over the cuts. 

"Still have those Kuromi band aids huh.." Kunikuzushi muttered. 

"Of course, why wouldn't I." You replied and threw away the plastic parts of the band aid. 

"Do you still want to have dinner?" He asked as he stood up from the chair. 

"Yeah, that would be nice."

"Ugh, why is that stupid brat hiding under the bed?? How am I supposed to see what is going on?" A tall blonde haired female complained as she watched the live footage. 

"We can't control what she's going to do-" 

The woman slammed her device on her desk, scaring her underlings who quickly stepped back. 

"Couldn't you have trained the brat not too??" She yelled, making the men feel embarrassed. 

"We a-apologize for our mistake, we-" 

"Enough of it, I don't want to hear it." Just leave my office." She spoke, glaring at the pair. 

The two scurried away in a hurry and Signora let out a scoff. Always the weak subordinate that couldn't even do a single thing right. 

She left her office with her expensive handbag. As she locked the door of her office the maids that passed bowed to her. 

Signora went to her bedroom and to her vanity. She sat down on her comfortable chair in front of her vanity, removing the high heels she had been wearing the whole day. She looked in the mirror briefly, checking her appearance. Then picking the picture next to her mirror. 

"Oh Rostam, if you could see everything I was doing for you... To take revenge for you.." She sighed and looked disappointedly at the unmoving picture of her lover. 

"I'll kill her, I'll make her suffer, to make him suffer."

Chapter 11

Days flew by and you grew accustomed to your new daily routine. Kunikuzushi took you every day to work with his car which you strangely appreciated. He also tried going out with you but you refused everytime.

Maybe you still despised him, maybe you still hated him or maybe you were too nervous to do anything with him that involved having fun.

It was pretty obvious that you would look down and avoid his gaze whenever he tried to ask you out for a friendly date. He already guessed that you would decline his offer, but still, he kept trying each day.

"Y/n, do you want to go grab a bite?"

"Sorry, I already ate..

"Y/n, do you want to go on a walk?"

"I'm really tired.. I don't want to go Kunikuzushi.."

"Y/n, do you-"

"Kunikuzushi."

Kunikuzushi froze as you called out his name on the phone.

"I appreciate your efforts.. But I'm genuinely tired.. I just.. Don't have the energy.." You half lied, sighing as you laid on the couch. You looked outside to see the children happily playing and giggling and felt slightly worse.

"I see.. Can I ask one more thing then?" Kunikuzushi replied hesitantly.

"Fine.. Just make it quick"

"Can I cook for you?"

Cooking for you? You hesitated to answer no immediately, instead you waited a bit to think about his offer.

"I'll also do the dishes and help you around your house if you want that as well.." He added, sounding as if he was begging to be near you.

"I.. You know what sure.." You replied, not caring at the moment.

"You sure? I'll come to you right now then..!" Kunikuzushi sounded happy, it made you smile hearing his cheery voice.

"Yes I'm sure.." You replied, slightly smiling to yourself.

"Alright, I'll be there in an hour!" He said and hung up.

You placed your phone on the coffee table and rested your head on one of the pillows on the couch.

If only that entitled woman didn't keep screaming at Rina and Miya you wouldn't have that headache right now.

You groaned in annoyance as you thought back at how you had to be patient about getting her out of the cafe. She really tried to fight you too and almost hit you when Thoma came to the rescue and peacefully escorted her out.

Actually maybe you shouldn't think about it if it worsens the head ache. So you decided to take a short nap. You would most likely be awake when Kunikuzushi would arrive so it would be fine.

But as you were getting ready to close your eyes, you heard a knock on your door. You groaned again and stood up to walk to the door.

"No way he's here already, right? He said he would be here in an hour.."

You opened the door and to your surprise a man dressed in a delivery person uniform stands there with a package.

"Hello miss.. Your neighbor isn't home at the moment so I was hoping you could temporarily keep the package and later give it to her when she returns?" The man nervously talked.

"Of course.. I'll take care of it." You smiled, hiding the sleepy expression on your face. The man handed you the package and wished you a nice day, you returned it as well and closed your door.

You quickly put the package on the ground next to the door and headed back to the couch to take your nap. Slowly falling into a slumber...

After a while the bell rings. Kunikuzushi arrived and you hadn't woken up before that from your nap.

You yawned and quickly got off the couch to walk to the door and open it, still looking sleepy.

"Hi Y/n." He awkwardly said as he held a bag with groceries in one hand and a small bouquet of fresh flowers in his other.

"Hello Kunikuzushi, come in." You said with a tired smile and grabbed the bouquet, then tried to grab the groceries as well. However he held it away from you, wanting to put it on the counter himself.

You look for an empty vase while Kunikuzushi starts preparing the ingredients. When you also found a spot in your living room you removed one flower from the bouquet and took it with you to a room.

You quietly unlocked the door to Hikari's bedroom and placed a fresh flower in a vase where several other flowers are. Some withering, some already dead, yet you still kept them there.

As you quietly closed the door of the bedroom Kunikuzushi stood behind you, making you scream in surprise.

"Oh my god Kunikuzushi, never do that again ever." You sighed.

"Sorry.. I didn't mean to scare you. Though I'm curious, what's that room for?" He asked, pointing at Hikari's purple colored door.

"It's a private room." You answer calmly as you lock the door. Shoving the key in your pocket.

"Well what do you put in there?" Kunikuzushi asked, almost sounding like he was pushing for a clear answer.

At this point you started to get a bit irritated. A visible scowl was on your face and you walked towards the kitchen.

"Nothing that concerns you."

Kunikuzushi had the urge to glare at you but decided not to. He was clearly getting agitated from the situation as well.

"I see.. Well I'll begin cooking then.." He says with a fake smile and starts to chop the vegetables somewhat loudly.

It wasn't like normal chopping too, it was sounding like he was chopping meat but without any care. Almost comparable to the serial killers in the movies who chop up their victims.

At some point you heard the counter tremble because of Kunikuzushi's ridiculously loud chopping, so you walked over towards him again and grabbed the knife from him.

"What?" He scoffed, looking away from you.

"If you want to stay here, at least act decent. If not, I can just kick you out and cook something myself." You stated, glaring at him.

"I'm acting decent."

"Oh really?" You said, unconvinced.

"Just give me the knife back."

"No Kunikuzushi-"

"Give me the fucking knife back."

It's dead silent. Kunikuzushi raised his voice at you. Something he promised himself to never do to you again.

"You know what.." You said slowly as you put the knife back on the counter. "Cook something for yourself, asshole."

You walked towards your bedroom while trying to hold back tears. Kunikuzushi immediately tried to go after you but you slammed the door in his face and locked it.

"Y-y/n! Please open the door! I-I'm sorry!" He stuttered as he banged on your bedroom door.

But you continued to ignore and hid under your blankets, feeling so exhausted because of his attitude.

You guessed dinner for tonight is not an option anymore.

Omg I'm back from the dead?? Anyways idk what happened tbh I was really motivated last summer to write this fic and then I went on vacation for 5 weeks, then school began, now I'm kind of failing school but uhh yeah I'm still going to try my best to get up my grades bc I wanna pass!!

Chapter 15

You woke up to the sound of your doorbell ringing continuously. Apparently it was already past 9 am and you slept through your alarm as well as several calls.

"Who could be at my door today out of all the other possible days you could disturb my peace." You groaned in annoyance as you quickly got out of bed to stop whoever was ringing the doorbell and ruining your mood.

You peeked through a window to see an all too familiar indigo haired guy with a bouquet of flowers.

"Kunikuzushi? What are you doing here?" You said as you open the door.

"I asked you to hang out today, remember?"

Oh right, you cried yourself to sleep when you were remembering Hikari. You forgot to text him back to say no.

"R-right.. Well come in I guess.." You rubbed your head as you let him in. He placed the bouquet on the counter and started to go through your fridge.

"What are you doing?" You suspiciously eyed him as he started to take out several eggs and a carton of milk.

"Making you dorayaki. Go freshen up and breakfast will be fresh and ready." Kunikuzushi offered you a smile of reassurance as he continued to search through the cabinets for ingredients.

Your suspicions dropped slowly as you realized he wasn't here to argue about going out, yet. 

"Oh uh.. Okay thanks?" You said and quickly hurried to your bedroom.

You were still in your kuromi pajamas so you really needed to change. Even though as an adult you still loved Sanrio stuff and no age could change that. Then you remembered your cat Maple who you haven't seen yet. 

"I probably should look for her after I change.." You mumbled as you grabbed some clothes to go to the bathroom. 

After 15 minutes you finally get out and walk towards the kitchen to see Maple hesitantly eating the food Kunikuzushi prepared for her. As she tried one little bit of seemingly tuna she immediately started to eat the food quickly as if it was her favorite meal. 

"Took you so long, I'm making some dorayaki. I'm also made some miso soup because you look like you need some." He nonchalantly said as if he was roasting your exhausted look from 15 minutes ago.

"Thank you I guess. " You sat down at the counter to eat the pancake Kunikuzushi placed onto your plate. Taking one bite your eyes immediately widens. The flavor... the texture... Everything tasted so perfect! 

The Kunikuzushi you remember didn't even know that you needed to add oil to a pan to bake an egg! But this.. Oh wait he has been cooking the whole time for you. You forgot. But besides that you remembered that you once were at his house which was ginormous by the way and that he tried making instant noodles for you and didn't add water to the pan for the noodles to boil. The egg incident was a week after that. 

"It tastes delicious.." You muttered and Kunikuzushi smirked with his back turned towards you. 

"Now finish up because I've the whole day planned out for you." And your pancake dropped from your mouth. He fucking tricked you with his seemingly innocent gesture to cook breakfast. Of course he did.

He took you to several places in the next coming hours. First it was watching a movie in a privately rented cinema with unlimited food (you forgot he was rich). However the movie was great, he picked your favorite one after all, and the food was amazing!

Then it was taking a short flight to Liyue- which you didn't even understand how he arranged that but putting that aside it was to go to a Kuromi themed café to eat lunch.

Then flying back to Inazuma to go to a kimono boutique to buy you a brand new kimono to wear which you wanted to refuse because it was 500.000 mora?? And he told you to not worry because it wasn't much. With that much money you could pay your bills for at least a couple of years!

After that he took you to an evening festival to eat some snacks and play some fun games- it ended up with you as the winner even though you swear Kunikuzushi purposely let you win. You did notice him being particularly great at aiming at moving objects which almost no one could win, not with ease at least. 

A couple games later the two of you ended up back in the restaurant where you ironically first ran away from him. Enjoying the food and unlimited service as you both started talking with each other about the old school days. Especially you teasing him about the adorable dumb stuff he used to do. 

And lastly ending up at the beach where it was rumored someone would be lighting up fireworks upon someone's request. The two of you ended up with two paper plates of taiyakis handed out by a familiar individual with strawberry blonde hair. 

Yoimiya’s birthday was today and you completely forgot. She used to be one of your closest friends when you got back from university. She was absolutely ecstatic to see you at the beach and kept talking about how she was going to set off fireworks even though you were pretty sure that was banned a while ago. But despite that you were happy to see she was doing well and embraced her happily back.

"The sky is beautiful.." You sighed as you ate the last bit of your Taiyaki. Kunikuzushi hadn't taken any bite to your surprise. You remembered him always eating the stuff you gave him. 

"I'm glad I picked a good day to take you out." He replied with a smile. His taiyaki was still untouched on a paper plate. 

"Why haven't you eaten yours yet?" You questioned out of curiosity. 

"Just don't like sweet things." This took you by surprise as you looked at him like he was crazy. 

"What about all the sweets I baked or cooked for you? You never complained about them! I-I didn't make you hate sweet foods right??" You stammered in slight guilt. Maybe you tired him out of eating so much sweet stuff.

He, in response, just chuckled and handed you his plate. 

"You can keep it to eat later. I was already pretty full after dinner." 

"Okay..." 

It was a bit awkward for a second. You lookes away to avoid the awkward tension and take a deep breath. Today had been a lot... And despite the overwhelming amount of activities you enjoyed today. 

"Hey Y/n, The fireworks are starting." Kunikuzushi nudged your shoulder, catching your attention as you looked up to see beautiful fireworks exploding. Yoimiya indeed set off fireworks as she had told you she was planning to do so.

"Wow..." Was all you could say as you admired the beautiful vibrant colors. Inazuman fireworks were truly the best kind in Teyvat, or maybe just Yoimiya’s fireworks. It was a long time ago since you’ve seen them but you just felt your eyes light up at the sight of them.

Festivals were almost non-existent since the Tenryou commission took over a decade ago, only the Yashiro commission could sometimes host them under strict rules from the Tenrou commission. You were pretty sure you would hear from Thoma how his boyfriend got in trouble because fireworks were set off.. but that was a problem for later.

As you were watching in awe you didn't notice you were getting closer to the water. Kunikuzushi, who was slightly worried, tried to gently pull you back, but that didn’t work of course. So he had to increase his strength to pull you back before you would wet your clothes and yourself. However he didn’t anticipate that you would fall over on his lap and that both of you would get so close to each others’ faces. Kunikuzushi blushed furiously while you bursted into laughter. Your laughter painted a faint smile on his face and he unconsciously pulled you into his arms, your face was buried into his neck and he was into yours. For a moment, time seemed to pause, the embrace you shared gave you a warm comforting feeling. Was it love?

As the firework show was coming to an end you stood up and dusted the sand off your kimono. You had your taiyaki in the folded plate and walked off the beach with Kunikuzushi. It was past midnight and he wanted to bring you home like the gentleman he was.

It was perfect as you were pretty tired already from all the traveling around.

"You sure you'll be fine? If you want you can stay the night in my house. I'll look for a spare mattress." You said as you got out of the car.

"It's fine, I just want to know you're safe inside your home. I don't need to stay over for the night." He said with a small smile as he locked the car. "Here's the plate by the way."

Oh yeah you completely forgot after taking a nap inside the car.

"Thank you. But if you do change your mind just say it and I'll figure something out for you!" You exclaimed while walking to your front door.

Kunikuzushi followed, making sure to look around for any suspicious people or animals lurking around the area.

Though you stoppes in your tracks, finding an envelope on your doorstep.

You bent down to pick it up and Kunikuzushi watched with curiosity, analyzing the appearance of the envelope. It was white, no post stamp, nor an address…

"Who would send me a letter today..? It's not like it's my birthday or whatever.." You said quietly as you carefully opened it with your nails.

Kunikuzushi widened his eyes as he noticed a well familiar stamp on the corner of the letter before you started reading.

"Wait Y/n I don't think-" But it was too late because you already read half of it.

You dropped the letter and envelope and almost fell over from the shock and disgust you are feeling at the moment.

You heard Kunikuzushi calling out your name but it was no use. Your brain was panicking and all you could do was pant as you dropped to your knees. You felt like you had to throw up. 

You immediately grabbed the envelope and found a single tooth inside. A small child's tooth..

"No.." A scream followed as you let out the most horrific scream as you clenched your fist with the teeth inside of it.

Chapter 13

You had such a good time yesterday that you totally forgot about the package. So much so that you were dumbfounded when a person asked for it, making you rethink what package they were referring too. 

"A package? You mean this one?" You picked the package up from the floor to show it to the person on your doorstep.

"Could I inspect it for a second?" The small female said as she reached for the package.

"Uhm, sure?" You lowered yourself down to her size to hand her the package.

You inspected the woman who was half your size. Sure she was quite short but she sounded and looked like a professional. Although she didn't look like she belonged to the delivery company, from observing her mannerism and outfit.

"Just as we expected.."

"Uhmm what's expected?"

"Someone delivered this to the wrong address.. It's quite the important item too.. People these days are way too reckless." The shorter woman sighed as she carefully put it into a black garbage bag.

"Wait what.. But the delivery man.." You were so confused. The man from yesterday said it was your neighbor's package.. 

"Don't worry, we'll take care of it. Luckily you didn't open it so there are no legal issues." She said.

"Okay.. Am I missing something? This feels extremely weird.." 

"Yeah, it's your first time encountering such a problem.. For us it might be the 100th time. But don't worry, we'll make sure to never repeat this mistake again." The woman said with a yawn. 

"I see.."

You nod and thank her, then close the door and sit down at your couch. Kind of still in shock. Could this be targeted at you?

But the woman didn't say it was targeted to you, actually she never gave any explanation of how this package was delivered to your address.. Surely there weren't any of those weird pranksters behind this... 

You thought of reporting it to your friends but refrained from doing so, not wanting to burden them with your small worries, so instead you just went back to what you were doing.

You walked to your bedroom and carefully woke your cat up, brushing its fur until it slowly woke up. You still didn't know if it was a girl or boy but you didn't mind either. 

You remembered what Kunikuzushi told you about going to the vet for a check up so you searched up the nearest vet and quickly dressed up to take your cat there. 

While you were going about your day with little to no worries, Kunikuzushi on the other hand was frustrated. 

"We've confiscated the bomb successfully." Sayu says as she shows the picture of an x-ray. It was a scan of the contents of the mysterious package that was delivered to your home. 

Ayato hums in satisfaction as he goes through the reports given by his employee, then sliding them towards Kunikuzushi who could only clench his fist. He felt furious at whoever set the bomb up, especially towards you. 

"As promised we made sure to keep your woman safe and not to reveal anything. So hand over the files I requested please." The Kamisato says calmly. 

"Here." Kunikuzushi carelessly throws the USB stick over to Ayato who easily catches it with his thumb and index finger. He gives a sign and Sayu immediately pulls out a laptop and hands it over to him. 

As Ayato puts in the USB Kunikuzushi stands up, ready to leave but is stopped by Ayato's voice. 

"Wait a minute, you're not done yet." 

"What." Kunizkushi visibly glares as he sits back down at his seat. 

"A few questions I have about this particular harbinger.." Ayato says, slowly shifting his gaze over to Kunikuzushi. "So the Knave huh.. Is one of the 10 Snezhnayan diplomats while also being the criminally most wanted child trafficker?" 

"Correct." 

"And this is the database of all the children she has accumulated over the years?" 

"From up to last year, yes."

"Where are all the names of the children though? All I see are the dates of and some other number behind them."

"That is, because it isn't of importance who the child's identity is, rather when they were taken and the ranks of the children."

Ayato's face changed expressions and started to frown. "So these are randomly targeted children, is that what you are saying?"

"Oh that?" Kunikuzushi let out a chuckle, seemingly changing moods. "The bitch mostly lured those with unstable homes away and portrayed herself as their angel coming to save them. Children are dumb and fall easily for these kinds of acts, even more when they view the person as a hero who has come to save them. They don't know they'll be tricked into being their little soldiers, they don't know it's all an elaborate scheme just to make money off of them or use them.. But in the end, it's all for the Fatui's benefit." 

Ayato sighed, now being able to confirm that the rumors were indeed true. Children who were offered a chance at a young age that then become one of them, one of the Fatui. But Kunikuzushi didn't seem to want to wait for him to end his thoughts and continued.

"But we also have those who are specifically targeted. Sometimes harbingers request for certain specific children.. And one of them is the Doctor." Kunikuzushi spoke that name with disgust.

"As you know he's known as Snezhnaya's greatest scientist Dottore. He graduated from the Sumeru Akademiya as the first person from Snezhnaya. Truly fascinating, no? Yet his fascination for humans was even greater as he loved to experiment with the human body." Kunikuzushi speaks as he closes his eyes, feeling the memories of his past flood in.

"So, he's one of the few harbingers that requests children for his 'hobby', as he calls it."

Ayato's mouth dropped wide open. Kunikuzushi looks at him in satisfaction before slowly making his way towards the door.

"I suppose this is enough for today, I'll take my leave now."

While Kunikuzushi leaves, Ayato is left alone in his office to process everything. 

Kunikuzushi's smirk disappeared from his face as soon as nobody watched him. He was disgusted by Dottore's hobbies, disgusted by his personality and him in general. How much he wanted to kill... It was an understatement.

He wanted to torture him as much and even more than he did with him. Back when he was still a kid.

Chapter 10.

"Hey, make sure you two get home safely okay?" You say as you wait at the glass doors of the cafe. It was 10 pm and sure it was still light outside, but still you were a bit worried.

"Yes miss Y/n! We'll see you again tomorrow!" Rina and Miya waved as they walked together home.

"See you tomorrow!" you wave back and close the door, entering the cafe again. You turn around to face Kunikuzushi right in front of me. 

"Are you finally done with your shift?" He asks, grumbly. 

"No.. I still need to check if everything's off and then lock the place up." You say as you walk towards the back of the cafe to check all the appliances. Kunikuzushi follows behind like a kitten as you check if each thing is turned off. 

Finally it's 10:15 pm and you can close the shop for the day. You walk with Kunikuzushi to the parking lot a few hundred meters away in silence. 

You were sometimes trying to look at him sneakily, just trying to see what he was thinking. But you can't read minds so that is kinda useless. 

"Hey that's your car right?" You say, pointing at the distance. A black Honda was one of the only cars left in the parking lot. 

But strangely a white Toyota  was parked next to it. The windows were tinted so you couldn't look inside. 

You didn't pay much attention to it, however someone else did. 

Kunikuzushi notices the car is on, however it is not moving. Indicating that someone was either inside the care or close to it. 

He grabs your hand tightly and you look at him confused and a bit flustered. 

Just as you entered the car someone stepped outside the white car. You look through the window at Kunikuzushi who was still standing outside.

You see him smile kindly so don't pay much attention to whatever is happening outside.

"We meet again Balladeer." 

"Who told you who I was?" 

"Who do you think?" 

"Of course it's that useless fish woman. Get to the point."

"I heard you were unemployed.. How about I hire you?"

"No fuck off." 

"It will benefit you greatly though.." 

"And I don't fucking care, don't ask me it again." 

"But who'll protect your loved ones when you're not there? You know you’re being targeted and that she could be someone that would be as well.."

Kunikuzushi visibly tenses at the question. His mind immediately goes to you and in the corner of his eye he checks if you're still doing fine inside of the car. 

"You loved her, or well you still love her because you've dated her for 10 years or something? Damn and leaving her when she's at her most vulnerable state.." The man chuckled darkly as Kunikuzushi's eyes trembled. 

"But that's none of my business of course. It's your loss if you don't want to join me hm?" The man starts to go into his car but Kunikuzushi interrupts him, grabbing his wrist tightly as he glares at the tall male. 

"Why the fuck are you saying all this bullshit?" Kunikuzushi angrily says as he grips tighter. 

"You know damn well who I'm after, don't you Balladeer?" The male smirks mischievously and pulls his arm away from Kunikuzushi. 

"Listen here, you join us and provide us with information, in exchange we protect you and whoever you ask us to. Simple enough?" 

"And how am I sure you're not taking advantage of my situation?" 

"Oh come on Balladeer, you've so much to lose if you don't join us, don't you realize it?" 

"Tsk, fine then." 

"Excellent, I'll send you the contract to you later for you to sign." The blue haired male smiles and gets into his car. 

Kunikuzushi groans in annoyance as he tries to recompose himself. 

He pulls the car door open and steps inside, glancing at your sleeping body as he slowly drives off. 

In the distance he hears a few gunshots, indicating that indeed a few of his enemies have been listening. But what's the worry if they're eliminated? 

He presses on a button, allowing fresh air to enter the car and wash away the distinct smell of some sort of plant. 

"I should order some more.." He mutters to himself as he looks at your sleeping body.

You are so quiet, peaceful and beautiful.

Chapter 9.

"Hey.. Are you alright?" You walk over the pebble path towards Kunikuzushi who sat on a wooden bench.

Kunikuzushi doesn't answer, he instead looks in front of him endlessly.

"Kuni..?" You try again. 

"Oh.. Sorry.." He says and turns to look at you, finally noticing you've been calling out to him. 

"Don't apologize.. I should be sorry.. I thought this would be a nice dinner so I could introduce you to my friends.. I didn't know it would end up like this." You say, apologetically smiling. 

"Please don't.. It's not your fault.." Kunikuzushi mumbles and looks at you. 

"They probably need some time to get used to me."

"Get used to you?" You repeat confused. 

"I mean get used to me being so close with you. They're probably really worried for your safety and wellbeing." Kunikuzushi says with a smile. 

"You're right.. Should we go back?" You suggest as you stand up, offering your hand. 

"Yes, let's go back." Kunikuzushi says and accepts your hand. The both of you walk inside and see Sara and Heizou talking, but they stop as soon as they see you two walk in. 

"Sorry for upsetting the two of you." Sara and Heizou stand up as they apologize. 

"And I'm sorry for being pushy." Heizou added reluctantly, receiving a soft kick from Sara for sounding not too apologetic. 

"It's fine." Kunikuzushi says as he softly smiles, surprising both Heizou and Sara. "But who you really should apologize to is Y/n, who tried her best to plan out a dinner for us to meet each other and become friends." 

"Right..!" Heizou exclaims and Sara realizes it too. "Sorry Y/n!" 

You smile and nod. "It's fine, I'm glad everything is okay between you three now." 

"I'm glad too." Kunikuzushi says, lightly squeezing your hand. 

"Kunikuzushi, what are you doing here?" You ask surprised. You were getting ready to leave for work but Kunikuzushi was blocking your doorway. 

"I'm here for you.." He mumbles with a small bundle of flowers he picked up on his way. 

"Wait, I uhm really appreciate you but I need to catch the bus to go to work.." You sigh. 

"I can bring you, don't worry!" Kunikuzushi happily smiles and you stare at him a bit surprised.

"You sure? Don't you have anywhere to go?" 

"Nope. Let's go now, you wouldn't want to be late for work." He says and takes your hand, leading you to his car. 

"Wait, do you even know where I work? It's Komore Teahouse." 

"Mhm." Kunikuzushi hums as he starts the car, driving towards the city. 

"You can take a nap if you want by the way."

You look to your left and Kunikuzushi smiles at you. 

"I'll wake you up when we arrive." 

You nod and yawn a bit. Slowly letting yourself drift off into sleep. 

After a little while you wake up to Kunikuzushi gently nudging your shoulder. 

"We're here.." Kunikuzushi says, unbuckling your seat belt. You look down at his hands and see some bandages, bandages you hadn't noticed before. 

"Hey.. Did you hurt your hands? Why do you have bandages?" You try to reach out his hands but Kunikuzushi pulls back. 

"It's nothing.. I just got into a little accident, don't worry about it." He looks up into your eyes and offers you a gentle smile. 

You slowly start to smile back and get out of the car, closing the car door behind me. 

"I guess this is where we say goodbye?" You say, adjusting the straps of my bag. 

"You want me gone already?" Kunikuzushi pouts as he puts on his backpack. 

"No-! I didn't mean it like that-" 

"I'm just kidding, I have to get some work done on my laptop so that's why I wanted to pick you up so I can finish up my work inside the cafe you work in." He says and starts walking, you quickly follow behind and start asking some questions. 

"What work do you do Kunikuzushi?" 

"Just some stuff like going over documents and sending emails. Nothing too hard." 

"Like for the government?" 

"Hmm.. Something like that, yeah." From the corner of his eye Kunikuzushi flares at something in the distance but quickly recomposes himself as he looks back at you. You still look sleepy but you drink some water you brought with you. 

"My shift is a 10 hour shift today, if you're done earlier you can just go home already. I can take the bus home." You say as the two of you walk inside the cafe. 

"It's okay, my work is somewhat endless so I don't mind." 

"Okay.. I'll go to the back.. And thank you for bringing me!" You smile and walk towards the back where a few of your co-workers have been staring at you talking to Kunikuzushi. 

"Is that your boyfriend Miss Y/n??" Miya, a high school part timer asked. 

"O-of course not Miya! Don't be silly, he's just a friend of mine. He's been helping me around since I've gotten attacked." You quickly say, feeling your cheeks turning red from embarrassment. 

"Just a friend huh? That's what every person says when they deny things!" Rina, Miya's best friend, exclaims as she smiles smugly. 

"J-just go back to work! It's a Saturday so it will be a busy day!" You order and go to the changing room to change into your work uniform. A white blouse, blue pants and a light brown apron. 

"Y/n! I'm glad you were able to make it!" Thoma had sneaked up behind you and surprised you with a hug. 

"Hey Thoma! I'm glad to be working again! I hope it wasn't an inconvenience for me not being able to work for two weeks..." 

"It's fine Y/n! Don't blame yourself for not being able to be here, we handled it well." He says, ruffling through your hair. 

Thoma is quite tall so he sometimes would use you as his arm rest for a joke, just like now. 

"You can stop it now Thoma. I need to go back to work." I huff and shake off his arm playfully. 

"Miss Y/n! There are orders!" Rina yelled and I quickly made my way towards the counter where a tablet with all the orders was on. The cafe was already open for 15 minutes and a good amount of people already ordered something at the front or at their tables by scanning a qr code. 

You start serving the orders around the tables for hours. Even Kunikuzushi who sat inside the corner of the cafe kind of depressingly ordered bitter green tea. You looked at him in disgust as you served his tea but he just innocently smiled at you. 

Finally after 3 hours you get a break. You grab a sandwich from the kitchen as well as a bottle of water and sit down to eat, close to the counter where Rina and Miya were operating. 

It is a habit of yours to stay close to the younger employees to keep an eye out for them just in case anything would happen where you would have to step in. But they seem to be doing pretty good. 

"Miss Y/n~ I think your boyfriend wants you to sit with him~!" Rina cheekily smiles as she looks over to Kunikuzushi who has turned his face towards his laptop again. 

"No he isn't? Don't make things up, Rina." You sigh as you take another bite of your sandwich, scrolling through your phone. 

But seconds later you feel someone tapping on your shoulder. You turn around and notice Rina smirking in the corner of your eye but focus your attention on the person who tapped you.

"Kunikuzushi?" You mumble surprised as you look up.

"Want to sit with me?" He asked nonchalantly, not knowing that Rina just predicted it.

"U-uhm sure-?" You reply very flustered. You grab your food and phone and follow Kunikuzushi to his table and sit down next to him.

You look back at Rina and Miya who are smirking at you. Mouthing the words 'Goodluck'.

Chapter 3.

The male carries you to your home and unlocked the door of your small cottage house with the key in your purse.

The male admires your house as he lets out a small gasp in awe.

"It feels like home... The home I lost.." He mumbles as he closes the door behind him while still carrying you in his arms.

He first drapes his your leather jacket over a kitchen chair with a smile and takes off your heels.

He looks around to find four doors. First one has a lavender sky painted wooden door, which was decorated with clouds and rainbows but locked.

Strange, is what he thinks, but continues to try the other doors.

The second room is filled with storage cupboards. But also with a desk against the wall with a window hanging above. On the desk are multiple items scattered.

A sewing machine on the right corner of the desk, some pieces of fabric, a pair of scissors, a few paint brushes and a notebook.

The male decides to check it out later and continues to the next room, a bathroom. Again it isn't what he is looking for so he goes into the last room which is luckily unlocked.

Because it's your bedroom.

It was somewhat neatly made up with a few pieces of clothing laying on top of it- presumably your pajamas.

It was a cute sanrio kuromi pajama set. The male smiles and puts the pajamas on the night stand as well as throwing the random pieces off and pushing the blankets aside with his free hand, making space for you to sleep.

But now he debates about his next move. Sleeping in a dress isn't the most comfortable thing to do. And he wanted to change you out of it.

However you are not awake to give him consent to help you get out of the dress and neither can you do it herself because well you are asleep.

So what does he decide to do? He lowers your straps and puts the pajama shirt over your dress with your straps lowered.

After he puts on the shirt over you he pulls your dress down and neatly folds it and puts it next on your night stand.

Then he pulls the blankets over you and makes sure you are wrapped warmly in your soft blankets.

You didn't have your soft and fluffy pajama pants on, only a short which the male didn't take off.

He also took off the necklace for you and the earrings as well as your makeup.

How does he know how to do that? Simply, he has experience.

The male made sure you laid in a comfortable position before closing the door quietly.

Then he went back into the storage room. He was quite interested in what you were up to in these past years.

He finds multiple cute messy paintings. They were finger paintings but still cute.

He also finds some clothes, small clothes for a child..? Most likely sewn by Y/n for.. Who though?

He continued to look and found a few pictures in a trash bin. But they were torn up..?

Y/n wasn't an aggressive person so why were the pictures torn up?

He could make out two people, one significantly younger than the other. But couldn't recognize who.. But the indigo hair stood out a lot from the h/c hair..

He shrugged and continued to look through.

He finds a bunch of pictures of you on the living room walls as well as a few bald spots as if there used to be something...

They were pictures of you through her adult years and a few of her and her mom.

Y/n had a few phases.. Just hair phases though. She went from long hair with bangs to short hair, from short hair to curly hair, then a wolf cut and now she had grown out her hair, as if she hadn't been to a hairdresser in a while.

The male admires the pictures and sighs.

He continues towards the small kitchen connected to the living room and looks through the drawers and cabinets.

Finding a couple of things strange.

First off, why did she have a bunch of tiny versions of cutlery and cooking supplies?

Like she had a normal sized wooden spatula and next to it he found a cute small wooden spatula with flower doodles and with an inazuman character on it.

'光'

And he found the word on multiple cutlery and cooking utensils.

He found a normal sized whisk, and then a tiny sized one next to it.

He found a big rolling pin and a small one. Again with tiny doodles and the word 'Hikari' on it.

What did it mean? He knew the meaning of the character was 'light' in Inazuma.. But why was it written all over this stuff?

The male was thinking about it for hours and then morning arrived. It was almost 7 am.

He decided he should leave your house.

But not before grabbing a purple colored sticky note and writing something on it.

Chapter 8.

"You know Y/n, that Kunikuzushi gives off a weird vibe." Heizou says as he lays on your couch while staring at the ceiling.

"Why?" You question with a confused look on your face. 

"No but seriously I agree with Heizou. You're telling us that that Kunikuzushi guy brought you home after you passed out and then took you on a date but you ran away because you were nervous and then ended up in the hospital because some Fatui attacked you? Your story doesn't really make sense." Sara says, crossing her arms.

"How not? Kunikuzushi brought me home after I fell asleep and he knew where I lived because we've been friends before-"

"Before?" Sara raises an eyebrow.

"Before- Hikari went missing.. You know how I cut off contact with a lot of people because of the fact my mind wasn't in the right state.." It hurts to bring Hikari up but you had to make up something for them to not distrust Kunikuzushi. After all, he did nothing but help you, right? 

Sara and Heizou visibly tense as you bring up your missing daughter again.

"Sorry.." Sara mumbles an apology as she sees your expression sadden.

"It's fine.. Besides, Gorou's team has now picked up the case so I'm hopeful there will be a breakthrough.." You say and smile.

"Yes, let's hope for the best." Heizou says as he puts his hand on your shoulder.

Suddenly someone knocks at your door and you stand up to see who's knocking.

Through the glass window you see a familiar indigo haired man, Kunikuzushi.

He has a bouquet of flowers- wait, those aren't flowers?? You weren't so sure because the glass panel wasn't translucent. 

You open the door with a smile and let him in. He smirks at heizou as you turn around to close the door.

Kunikuzushi plays it off as if nothing happened and hands you the bouquet with not only flowers but also cute Kuromi plushies.

You gasp in surprise and look at the cute bouquet. Sure it was somewhat childish and you were already in your twenties but still, who could stop your love for Sanrio characters? 

While you are silently squealing about your cute bouquet, Sara looks at Kunikuzushi. 

Both of them make eye contact and Kunikuzushi's expression changes into a rather threatening one. Sara cuts off the eye contact and looks back only to see a sweet and caring face. 

"What the fuck was that.." She mutters quietly and gets up from the couch. 

"Oh wait fuck, the curry is ready I'll get it- Everyone sit at the dinner table please!" You put the bouquet on your kitchen counter and run towards the stove to turn the fire off. 

You open the lid and a smell of Curry and potatoes starts coming out. 

"Smells amazing Y/n!" Heizou says as he stares at the pot with curry that is brought by you at the table. 

You open the rice cooker and put rice in everyone's bowl. Then you put some curry in everyone's bowl and  sat down. 

"Thank you for the meal."

Everyone dug in and enjoyed the temporarily peaceful atmosphere. 

That was until Heizou started talking. 

"So Kunikuzushi, how did you and Y/n meet?" Heizou says in an interrogating way, somewhat aggressively mushing his potatoes with a smiling face. 

"Well her friend Kazuha first introduced me to her when she was a first year in middle school while Kazuha and I were second years. But before that I always saw her outside of her house dancing."

"Wait really?" You look up in surprise. 

"Yeah, you were dancing ballet in your front yard and ever since I've seen you I always made excuses to stop by Konda village to watch you dance." Kunikuzushi admits with a cheeky smile. 

"So you were a stalker when you were a kid??" Heizou exclaims, pointing at Kunikuzushi. 

"No I wasn't. I just happened to stop by Konda village when  my mother's car broke down on the way to Taratsuna. I decided to walk around on my own and saw Y/n dance in her front yard... I was mesmerized but then called back by my sister because the car was fixed... Since then I always had an excuse to stop by Konda village... Back then I used to be called Kabukimono... However I changed my name to Kunikuzushi later."

"So where's your sister now?" Sara questions, not noticing how you both tense at the question. 

"She took her own life 9 years ago." Kunikuzushi coldly says as he looks down making his bangs cover his eyes. 

Sara and Heizou look speechless while you try not to cry. 

Kunikuzushi's sister, Shogun, was one of your somewhat close friends back in High school. 

However you still liked her because she was always interested in whatever you were doing. Whether it would be making paper stars, dancing or painting. 

You met her through Kunikuzushi who at first reluctantly introduced you to his older twin sister. She was 14 at the time while you were 13. He did it because the two of you were close to each other so he wanted you to meet his family (except for his moms). 

You can still remember how she was really quiet and didn't utter a word to you. But she observed you and through her facial expression you could see she enjoyed spending time with you. 

But then one day something happened. She committed suicide without leaving any word or note behind. She just did it. 

Oh how heartbroken you were that she just left. But Kunikuzushi was more affected by it than anyone. For the first time his innocent expression changed. It changed into anger. He was furious that she was the 3rd one to leave him. 

It was the year 2046 by then. A lot of shit happened in the year. Eleazar broke out in Sumeru causing lockdowns everywhere (some just for a short period, but others for years), protests were held against the Tenryou police force that seemed to be corrupted and of course the death of Raiden Shogun, daughter of the president Raiden Ei. 

Because of the suicide Ei's mental state took a turn for the worse, causing her to take several bad political choices for her country. 

Firstly, she let the Tenryou commission (which The Tenryou police force were led under) take control of the Government temporarily while she had to step down for a bit, instead of the Kanjou commission or Yashiro commission. 

Secondly Watatsumi prefecture that Raiden Ei has been negotiating with, were forced to become one with Inazuma again as the Tenryou commission had control. But of course the people of Watatsumi didn't let that slide so they stood up and fought against the Tenryou commission, causing a lot of blood to be shed on both ends. 

And lastly Inazuma became a strict and sheltered country for 2 long years as it was let under a 'dictatorship'. Or well that's what you found out when you moved over to Liyue to study. Because Inazuma opened up again in 2048 and just a year later you were accepted in the international university of Teyvat.

In short it was just a big mess at the time.

"I'm going outside for a bit, excuse me." Kunikuzushi says suddenly and stands up to walk outside to your garden. He slams the glass door shut while Sara, Heizou and you watch him leave.

You stand up and gently push your chair against the table.

"I'll go talk to him.."
