Yesterday's rainy day out at Ickworth House near Bury St. Edmunds. The estate was formerly the home of the Hervey family, later the Marquesses of Bristol, since 1467. The Building work for this italinate house we see today, was began by the 4th Earl of Bristol in the mid-late 18th century, but he died before it's completion. His descendants completed the house.

The winter solstice, also called the hibernal solstice, occurs when either of Earth’s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. The winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky.Wikipedia

We got National Trust membership so that this year, whilst I’m on maternity leave and The Lovely Husband has paternity leave and plenty of holiday to take, we can spend as much time as we like strolling around our local NT properties.
We haven’t had membership before as we didn’t feel we’d make full enough use of it but now we have Cosima, it suits us well to be heading to places that are not too far away and can involve a nice walk, coffee or lunch in a cafe or a picnic in the grounds, and somewhere we can feed her easily.
We went to Ickworth House near Bury St Edmunds and had a super time in the stumpery (who knew that was a Thing?!) and checking out the house. Lovely cafe too. We’ll be back to do some proper walking in the grounds and gardens. Fabulous!
