Inspirational Quotes – For Life & Google Ads
Inspirational Quotes – For Life & Google Ads
Today we’re detouring a from our normally scheduled technical programming to explore some larger thoughts and actions items to use in work and life.
Lily Tomlin once said, “The road to success is always under construction.”  At least, I think she once said that. These days, you blindly trust the internet to assign the right quote to the right person. But, I digress. We are works in progress, constantly evolving and changing as we grow older and wiser. The same can be said of AdWords … I mean Google Ads.
Inspirational Tip #1
“The road to success is always under construction.” – Lily Tomlin (Some sources say Arnold Palmer takes credit for this one.)
Remember that perfection is not guaranteed on the first try. We can make preparations, make assumptions, plan everything down to the second, and then follow the road to either success or failure.
I’ve run many Google Ads campaigns. Some of them have been extremely successful, while others have been works in progress. It is our job to learn how to improve and make a next-step plan of action. And most of the time, the “failures” turn out to be pearls of wisdom that enable you to perform even better in the future.
Going into campaign or account planning of any kind, remember to take a step back and know that each launch, each platform you test, each audience you target – they all get you to a further point in the road. Your job is to build the road that eventually leads to the golden ticket of performance. You may take a detour here or there, but you will learn what works, what doesn’t work, and how to improve.
Inspirational Tip #2
“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” – Dale Carnegie, How To Win Friends and Influence People
It’s true. Being a great listener is a valuable trait. I remind myself to always be invested in other people’s perspectives, feelings, and what they’re going through in life. You can see a change in your entire life by caring about those around you – and showing it.
Tune into the needs, likes, and dislikes of those around you. Who is this person? What do they need? How can I help them? These are some of the same questions you can ask about the people to which you are trying to sell your services, goods, or products. Learn what makes them interested. Is it a better price, great customer service, exciting promotions?
I recently conducted extensive research about a vertical that I would never, ever have learned about if it wasn’t a client. I learned about their users. I became interested in the applications of the product. And man, did we see great click-through rates from our campaign because of the extra interest that was taken in the research phase.
Inspirational Tip #3
“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw
I would argue that life is a combination of both. I strive to “find myself.” To understand what is going on right now. I also strive to create – to create a better version of myself to present to the world and those closest to me.
But what if we didn’t create something new? What if we were tied to finding what is already there without making it better? I would say that we would grow stagnant. The same can be said of our work. The digital marketers around me are creative. They see what is there and want to change it, make it better, try something new. Create.
Think about your campaigns from a new perspective. Flip them on their heads. What if you tried this a different way? What if you tested a new strategy on a new platform? What if you questioned the value of each step in your conversion funnel? What if you spoke to users in a different tone; serious, funny, down-to-earth? How can you create something different and new?
Inspirational Tip #4
“If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend six hours sharpening my ax.” -Abraham Lincoln
I pondered this one for a while and came to the realization that I wholeheartedly agree. And, should try to implement in my life. Preparation is key to success. With a “dull ax,” the work will take you 2x, 5x, 10x as long and the result may be worse. A “sharpened ax,” which was delicately handled and made just right for the job, will make for a simpler, easier, possibly faster task. Prepare and prepare and prepare more – and your work becomes easier.
When my colleagues write blogs, they all usually follow the same format. Write an outline, put notes or bullets and fill in the rest. Me? Not so much. I painstakingly try to write every *perfect* word down (which I do NOT succeed at) only to follow that process with several re-writes. Eventually, I strip the whole thing down and start again. This is not the most effective way of producing a product.
This piece of inspiration is something that I use to better myself. Prepare. Prepare. Prepare. Once you have your plan all laid out, implementation is simple. Do the necessary research, lay out your project plan, including how you will measure success or progress. Your life and work will benefit. Your clients will appreciate your organization, attention to detail, and preparation.
Once I perfect the art of preparation, I can toss my full stack of belated birthday cards.
Inspirational Tip #5
“For most of life, nothing wonderful happens. If you don’t enjoy getting up and working and finishing your work and sitting down to a meal with family or friends, then the chances are you’re not going to be very happy.
If someone bases his/her happiness on major events like a great job, huge amounts of money, a flawlessly happy marriage or a trip to Paris, that person isn’t going to be happy much of the time.
If, on the other hand, happiness depends on a good breakfast, flowers in the yard, a drink or a nap, then we are more likely to live with quite a bit of happiness.” – Andy Rooney
Extract happiness from your everyday routines. Remember that you are privileged to get up healthy every day, do something productive at work, be a great listener to those around you, keep trying to improve and create in your personal and work life. Remember this on every client call, every project plan, every daily optimization. When you are working hard. When you should be working harder. Remember that happiness is in the everyday and take joy in the fact that you can control whether you view today in a positive or negative light.

He was 83 ... A spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections says Manson died of natural causes Sunday night. Manson became synonymous with evil and inspired decades of intrigue and documentaries after he sent a group of disaffected young followers to commit murder as part of a twisted, quasi-religious belief that it would launch a race war. The killings occurred on successive August nights and terrorized the city of Los Angeles. The murders horrified the world and revealed a violent underbelly of a counterculture that preached peace and love. Tate, who was nearly nine months pregnant, was found stabbed repeatedly in her Hollywood mansion, along with several of her friends. Other victims included coffee heiress Abigail Folger and celebrity hair stylist Jay Sebring. The life of Charles Manson Flashback, Sept. 6: Manson follower Leslie Van Houten determined suitable for parole FOX NEWS EXCLUSIVE: Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says repealing the individual health care mandate is not a "bargaining chip" when trying to get senators on board with tax reform, despite some GOP lawmakers' doubts about the Senate tax bill ... “This is all about getting this passed in the Senate, that’s the objective. This isn’t a bargaining chip. The president thinks we should get rid of it, I think we should get rid of it—it’s an unfair tax on poor people,” Mnuchin told Chris Wallace in an exclusive interview on "Fox News Sunday." For President Trump, a legislative win is among his top priorities and he wants Congress to pass tax reform by Christmas. Senate Republicans’ tax reform legislation includes repealing ObamaCare's individual mandate. Not all Republicans are on board. Sen. Susan Collins argued that getting rid of the mandate could lead to higher health insurance premiums for some middle-income Americans. Other Republican senators not fully on-board with the tax reform plan include: Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Bob Corker from Tennessee, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Jeff Flake and John McCain, both from Arizona. Trump reignites feud with Flake, predicts he'll vote no on tax cuts House passes GOP tax reform bill: How does the Senate's version compare? A NUCLEAR DEBATE: The U.S.'s top nuclear commander has sparked a debate after saying he would resist President Trump's order if he called for an "illegal” nuclear launch." ... Air Force General John Hyten, commander of the U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM), started the debate when he told an audience at the Halifax International Security Forum in Nova Scotia, Canada over the weekend that he had thought a lot about what to say if he received such an order. "And if it’s illegal, guess what’s going to happen? I‘m going to say, 'Mr. President, that’s illegal.’ And guess what he’s going to do? He's going to say, ‘What would be legal?’ And we’ll come up with options, of a mix of capabilities to respond to whatever the situation is, and that’s the way it works." DEATH AT THE BORDER: Authorities are looking for potential suspects after a U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed in the line of duty while patrolling the Big Bend Sector of Texas along the southern border with Mexico ... Agent Rogelio Martinez, 36, died of injuries sustained Sunday while responding to “activity” near Interstate 10 in the Van Horn Station area, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Martinez and his partner, who was injured, were transported to a hospital. The partner, who was not identified, remains hospitalized in serious condition. Border Protection spokesman Carlos Diaz told The Associated Press the FBI has taken over the investigation. 'UNGRATEFUL 'BALLERS: President Trump has double-dunked in his war of words with the outspoken father of one of the UCLA players detained in China for shoplifting, calling him "very ungrateful" and saying he should have left the students in jail ... "Shoplifting is a very big deal in China, as it should be (5-10 years in jail), but not to father LaVar," Trump tweeted late Sunday. "Should have gotten his son out during my next trip to China instead. China told them why they were released. Very ungrateful!" LaVar Ball, no stranger to controversy and outrageous statements himself, irked Trump when he downplayed the president's successful effort to get his son LiAngelo and his teammates released from a China jail during his recent trip to Asia.
