Countless selfies and photos of beach games and other activities, like horseback riding (above), are snapped at Cox’s Bazar every day, but photographer Ismail Ferdous knew his simple portraits with the sea and sand as settings would stand out.

Ismail Ferdous, Sea Beach
Colourful life at the beach: Cox's Bazar lies at the southernmost point of Bangladesh. It is a popular destination for many of the country's population, stretching along the Bay of Bengal. It is considered a cultural melting pot, where people from every walk of life and place in society search for a few moments of relaxation and recreation. Though he is currently based in New York, the photographer (born 1989) originates from Bangladesh, and returned to this special place to capture the beach goers and atmosphere in brilliant colours.

America’s COVID Testing Regime Is Somehow Still a Travesty
2022-08-31 14:59:47 Photo: Ismail Ferdous/Bloomberg via Getty Images They were stray remarks in defense of Joe Biden, but Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s words nevertheless caused an online firestorm yesterday. “I think the president decided we’re in a good place right now,” Gillibrand said while touring the New York State Fair. “We’ve really gotten over the hump of COVID. Virtual Tour
Virtual Tour – Museum of Modern Art
For this assignment, I have chosen to tour the exhibit on the Museum of Modern Art website called “Beginnings, Forever: From the Collection of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts / Shinnyo-en”. This exhibit consists of a total of six photographs which all have a different aesthetic. Four black and white photographs and two color.
To begin, the first photograph has to be my favorite. It is titled “Tokyo Parrots” 2013, taken by Yoshinori Mizutani. It consists of green parrots that sit on a telephone pole surrounded by green leaves that are the same color as the parrots. At first glance you think that the parrots are part of the leaves which is a very cool look.
Another one of my favorites in this gallery would have to be “The Siege of Kobane (Turkey-Syria)” 2014 by Ismail Ferdous. This photo reminds me of the style of Steve McCurry. The photograph consists of an overcast day with relatively no color except for the main subjects clothing which is a family in the left thirds of the frame. Very beautiful photograph.
Other photographs in the series include “5:00 p.m. on a cold day. Frank Lussi, a 10-year old newsie, who has been selling for 2 years, Begins at 5 a.m. sometimes and sells until 8 p.m. at time, Hartford Connecticut, arch 1909: by Lewis W. Hine 1909, “Man and Woman #20” by Eikoh Hosoe 1933, “From” by Daido Moriyama 1966, and Ordeal by Roses #32” by Eikoh Hosoe 1961. Also very intriguing photographs that have very significant meaning behind them. Overall, I very much enjoyed this exhibit.

Repost @natgeo Video by @ismailferdous / Does this nose-swabbing remind you of your experience this past year? Photographer Ismail Ferdous captured this scene of Teri Orr, who specializes in the study of bats, performing a COVID-19 test on a pallid bat in a pecan grove on the outskirts of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Orr and a team of researchers have been undertaking a study to determine whether COVID-19 can infect bats in the Southwest and how that could impact the spread of the virus in humans. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQbtuS_pvCL/?utm_medium=tumblr

Encyclopedia of Badassery- Pride Edition: Meet Pavitra Nimbhorakar, a leader of the Kinnar Akhada, an order of transgender Hindu ascetics formed in 2015. She’s in charge of KA’s 2,500+ members during the triennial Ardh Kumbh Mela, India’s biggest spiritual festival...and the largest gathering of human beings on the planet. According to Pavitra, kinnars (trans people) ‘are demigods in the Hindu religious texts, and have been granted the power to bless by Lord Ram.’ And bless they did: on *every one* of the 49 days of the Kumbh this past winter, *20,000 to 30,000* pilgrims sought out Kinnar Akhada members for advice and spiritual guidance. Thousands came from all over India just to meet Pavitra herself - calling her Mataji (mother) or Maharajji (guru), and seeking just to hug her or touch her hands, thus gaining the blessing of a living saint. It’s not all love and light for India’s transfolk - a 2018 human rights report estimated that *92%* of trans femmes in India are forced to beg or engage in survival sex work, thanks to being shut out of other livelihoods - but the Indian Supreme Court *did* officially recognize a third gender in 2014, and as Pavitra herself put it in a recent @natgeo interview, ‘I certainly must have done something good in my past life to have seen this day.’ (Pic credit: Ismail Ferdous) #encyclopediaofbadassery https://www.instagram.com/amazonesque/p/BykrbEOFJGJ/?igshid=tu5zlq72kkf2
