Weirdly, when it comes to Anastasia’s opening night tomorrow, the thing I’m most looking forward to is finally meeting Gleb.

I read the script before writing the programme articles, and even though I missed the over-the-top villainy of Rasputin, he was the most entertaining part of the story to me. He’s like a young communist Javert who’s also in love. I get that he’s supposed to be a real, threatening, dangerous antagonist... but on paper, something about his seriousness and all that internal turmoil was so silly to me. Poor little man.

Here’s to hoping the actor delivers tomorrow.
