ok ok ok ive seen a lot of rockstar eddie and bodyguard steve (and dont get me wrong i LOVE that) BUT-hear me out- Rockstar Eddie Munson and his private jet pilot Steve Harrington 👀
Steve with the pilot uniform, Steve with the aviators, Steve asking Eddie if he wants to see the cockpit and Eddie giving him the most awful grin and saying ‘only if it’s yours’ Robin is Steve’s copilot!!!! and argyle is the flight attendant!!!! Okay so hear me out:
The thing is Steve wasn’t Eddie’s regular pilot, he’s used to seeing Nancy and Johnathan waving to him from the cockpit but after Johnathan and Argyle got together they have to split their routes. So when Eddie is walking up the runway and sees a pilot’s back that he definitely knows isn’t Johnathan he gets a bit edgy, doesn’t know if he’ll take to this new guy and if these pilots will have preconceived notions of Eddie and the band.
But then the pilot turns around, hat tucked under his elbow and gives a lazy two finger salute and a smile to Eddie and that’s it. Eddies done. Hook, line and sinker. He stops in his tracks and Gareth stumbles right into his back ‘dude what the fu-‘
‘Sorry, sorry man, just saw an Angel on earth. Hey I didn’t die on the way to the airport did I?’
Gareth looks back to the rest of the band ‘guys watch it, our fearless leader has a crush. Get ready for a change to the heartbreak set list again’. Eddie turns to protest and is met by a slew of abuse. He’s not that bad. Maybe. Possibly. Okay so there was one time!…maybe two…three at a push! Eddie doesn’t have time to think before Argyle is shouting to him
‘hey my dudes! Welcome back to the sky boat. As frequent flyers I can trust to all to respect the airways and they’ll respect you. I provide the peanuts you provide the music. We’ll be in for a sweet ride’
Eddie gives him a slap on the shoulder before sliding up to the pilot and thrusting his hand out, ‘hi. Eddie munson. Are you my stairway to heaven?’ The copilot, name of Robin embroidered onto her uniform, let’s out a wonderfully evil laugh as the pilot grips Eddie’s hand
‘ahoy there guys, if you are ready to explore the skies I’ll be your captain, I’m Steve Harrington’. Steve is already kicking himself. ahoy there??? Ahoy??? What is he a sailor??? A sailor who can’t even speak to pretty boys?? Hes a professional but clearly his brain doesn’t care! He knows Robin is going to give him so much shit for this as soon as they are alone. It’s quickly forgotten when Eddie takes Steve’s hand up to his mouth, giving it a quick kiss ‘it would be an honor’ and he makes his way into the plane. The band spend the rest of the flight taking each other’s hands and planting sloppy kisses on them, making sure Eddie knows exactly how ridiculous he looked

Hi there buddy, my name is Athena. I'm coming to say hi, see how you're doing and this is a chance to ramble about your wips. Have any of your wips been influenced/inspired by podcasts or any other media?
hello Athena!! you keep spooking me with your url changes, and i end up looking like caveman spongebob trying to figure out who’s sending me asks
Tumblr media
many of my wips have been inspired by media i’ve consumed! not podcasts, as i don’t listen to podcasts (i have tried but my brand of adhd makes me tune them out if i’m not sitting still and consciously listening to them), but from just about everything else!!
recently i was inspired to start two new wips by media. they’re both still at the “vague idea” stage but i’m hoping to develop them more.
1 - nightwood wip (which i keep trying to call the nightwell wip so i’ll probably rename it). inspired by my marathons of lockwood & co, the law according to lidia poet, and the night agent. (i 100% just smashed two of the inspiring titles together for the temporary wip name and i’m not even sorry.)
this one’s about a disaster twentysomething working as a barista by day and a bartender by night who is thrown into the world of demon hunting and shadowy government agencies when her brother is kidnapped and she’s the only witness. features a shitty dead dad whose misogyny is still fucking over his daughter, a woman willing to go to the end of the world (and beyond) to save her brother, a golden retriever-coded man trying to keep her alive while unraveling a web of corruption, secretive quasi-government agencies, and some fun demon fighting gadgets.
2 - plane crash wip. i don’t even have a better temporary title for it than that. this one came about bc i watched a few minutes of a horror movie on facebook (called flight 7500). i then went on a research deep dive into the flight it was based on (helios airways flight 522) and then other depressurization incidents, then other plane crashes caused by mechanical failures, then plane crashes caused by pilot error…. it was a real spiral. smash that fixation together with the ads for the new season of departure (never watched the show but i want to), leftover love for the night agent, and being reminded of my love for fringe, and i ended up with a new story concept!
it centres around a woman (currently a journalist, but this might change) who’s first on scene after a passenger jet crashes. air traffic control lost contact with the plane and it’s assumed to be a depressurization incident, but as she’s searching for survivors she realizes something is off—there’s no survivors, because there’s no bodies. a (suspicious) fire erupts during the investigation, destroying most of the evidence before it can be collected, and officials are quick to announce that it burned so hot that recovering bodies won’t be possible. our leading lady digs for answers—where did the passengers go? why is the government so quick to cover it up?—and quickly finds herself digging into secrets that were meant to stay buried.
as you can tell, i’m in my government conspiracy/cover-up story era 😌 i don’t have much experience writing contemporary or thriller-type things, so we’ll see how this goes!!
thank you for the ask and for the opportunity to ramble!!

Helios 522, do you read?”
These immortal words, spoken again and again in futile expectation of a reply, have since come to embody one of history’s most haunting air disasters, one which played out in the sunny skies over Greece on the 14th of August, 2005. It was a catastrophe unlike almost any other: a Boeing 737 full of passengers, circling on autopilot off the coast of Athens, in complete radio silence with no one at the controls. In the windows, people lay slumped over, unmoving; the captain’s seat sat empty; and yet the engines continued to run, propelling the plane around and around until it ran out of fuel. Fighter jets followed it down, watching as it glided to its doom, when, to their amazement, a person appeared in the cockpit — a mysterious figure, not one of the pilots, who sat in the left seat and whispered desperate “mayday” calls until the end, unable to stop the plane from crashing. Who was this lonely soul still clinging to life aboard a ghost plane? What horrible fate had befallen the passengers and crew?
….
Unfortunately, Captain Merten and First Officer Charalambous never donned their oxygen masks, and never realized that their airplane had not pressurized. The cabin altitude was approaching the death zone when Merten apparently got out of his chair to find the circuit breakers, collapsed from lack of oxygen, and never woke up. Charalambous fell unconscious at around the same time, still strapped into his seat. Those passengers and flight attendants who put on their oxygen masks would have stayed awake longer, but the passenger masks only provided about 12 minutes of oxygen, under the assumption that the pilots would descend to a lower altitude. Instead, flight 522 climbed on autopilot to 34,000 feet, the altitude which had been set by the crew, and leveled off. No doubt with increasing concern, the passengers would have waited for some announcement from the cockpit, but none ever came, and one by one they began to lose consciousness, swallowed up by a dizzying, euphoric blackness…. Autopsies showed that all 121 passengers and crew were alive on impact, proving that the lack of motion observed by the F-16 pilots was because the occupants were unconscious, not dead.

PICTURED: Top US sex therapist, 55, is arrested after 'BITING' air hostess on board Japanese airliner during 'drunken pill-fueled' rage
By NewsDaily Now - Published: January, 16, 2024 / Updated: May 9, 2024
A top American sex addiction therapist accused of biting a flight attendant's arm in a drunken rage has been pictured being perp-walked out of Japan's Haneda Airport.
The spectacled suspect, named by Japanese outlet TBS News as 55-year-old Michael Travis Halyard, allegedly forced the flight to return to Tokyo on its route to Seattle on Tuesday night, and was promptly arrested after the ANA Airlines jet landed on the runway.
He reportedly told investigators that he took sleeping pills and 'doesn't recall at all' his alleged antics on the flight, which left the hostess mildly injured. Prosecutors later declined to press charges over the incident.
According to his website, Halyard was named as one of America's top mental health professionals in 2006, and specializes in sex addiction, mental health disorders, relationships and compulsive gambling.
The alleged biting incident is only the latest in a terrifying string of aviation disasters, which included two passenger jets colliding at a Japanese airport just a day before the biting incident.
Tumblr media
The spectacled suspect, reportedly identified as 55-year-old Michael Travis Haliyad, forced the flight to return to Tokyo on its route to Seattle on Tuesday night after allegedly biting a stewardess.
Tumblr media
The passenger on the ANA plane said he had taken sleeping pills before allegedly sinking his teeth into the crew member's arm while 'heavily drunk', leaving her mildly injured (File Photo).
Tumblr media
The incident prompted pilots of the plane with 159 passengers on board to turn back over the Pacific to Haneda airport, where the man was handed over to police, according to ANA (File Photo)
The passenger's alleged behavior came while he was 'heavily drunk', prompting the aircraft with 159-passengers to turn around over the Pacific Ocean.
ANA told MailOnline: 'On January 16, NH118 departing from Tokyo Haneda to Seattle returned during the flight due to an intoxicated passenger who was acting in an unsafe manner to the flight crew and passengers.
'Upon arrival at Haneda Airport, the passenger was turned over to the local police. There were no reported injuries among the passengers and the flight has been rescheduled to depart on January 17.'
The airline added: 'The safety and security of our passengers and employees are ANA’s top priority and we will take all necessary actions to ensure it.'
The bizarre incident left some social media users likening it in mock horror to the 'beginning of a zombie movie'.
It comes after several other aviation failures and near-disasters have rocked the industry in recent times, with two passenger jets colliding at New Chitose Airport on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido just hours before.
A Korean Airlines jet clipped a parked Cathawy Pacific Airways aircraft just as the Korean plane was preparing to take off.
There were 289 passengers on board the Korean Air plane during the incident, although thankfully no injuries were reported.
A more serious incident occurred at Haneda Airport two weeks prior, when a near-catastrophic collision occurred between a Japan Airlines aircraft and a smaller coast guard plane on January 2.
All 379 people on board the JAL Airbus escaped just before the aircraft was engulfed in flames.
Five of the six people on the smaller aircraft, which was helping in a relief operation after a major earthquake in central Japan, died.
Tumblr media
Chilling pictures of the A350 jet in the daylight show nothing but the wings and piles of ash remaining.
Tumblr media
It also comes as Boeing's 737 MAX 9 aircraft, a workhorse for the aviation industry, has come under scrutiny in recent months.
Most notably, the plug door of new Alaska Airlines jet blew out at 16,000 feet on January 5 after being in service for only eight weeks.
Pilots flew the jet back to Portland, with only minor injuries among passengers.
A terrified passenger on board the near-catastrophic flight revealed the moment she texted her family 'I don't want to die' after a door plug on the jet blew out.
Emma Vu took to TikTok after surviving the horror Alaska Airlines flight 1282.
'In the moment I was so scared,' Vu said, as she showed her panic-stricken texts to her family reading: 'The masks r down; I am so scared right now; Please pray for me; Please I don't want to die.'
In an interview with 7News Australia, she added: 'I was more concerned with the plane dropping... I looked outside and it was going pretty smoothly. I think everyone freaking out inside made me freak out.'
Shocking footage from inside the plane saw flyers sat in eerie silence shortly after the door plug exploded, as they looked out of a gaping hole in the fuselage with the twinkling lights of Portland below.
Vu said she was asleep when the devastating safety failure erupted out of the blue and she 'felt the entire plane drop'.
Tumblr media
A photo shows the blown out door plug. It is offered as a door on the aircraft. Alaska chose not to take this option - although the frame of the prospective door was entirely ripped out by the fuselage failure.
Tumblr media
Passenger Emma Vu said she 'felt the entire plane drop' around 20 minutes into the horror Alaska Airlines flight 1282, which was bound from Portland to California before a door plug blasted into the sky at 16,000 feet.
Tumblr media
Alaska flight 1282 left Portland just after 5pm local time last Friday when a door plug blew out at 16,000 feet.
'The masks dropped, and people are screaming,' she continued, next to a tearful selfie she took in the moment that she feared could be her last.
She said: 'I am so grateful for the ladies sat next to me... They were so sweet at calming me down, and the flight attendants were giving oxygen tanks to those who needed it more.
'But I was freaking out because my bag wouldn't inflate - and that's literally what they tell you in the safety thing, like don't worry you're still getting air flow... When you're in fight or flight you're not thinking about that.
'It was just so scary, no one knew what was happening. The pilot came on to tell everyone to put your mask on before you help others - literally word for word what they tell you in the safety training.'

Why Do Indian Airlines Keep Crashing? Unveiling the Challenges of a Soaring Industry
After a 13-hour delay, a passenger angrily slapped pilot Radhika Apte. She shared on her Instagram that she and all the passengers were stuck on the aerobridge for hours without water or access to toilets. 10-hour flight delays have become common, and airlines only offer a sorry excuse, if you're lucky.
For India to become the 'Golden Bird,' the aviation industry needs to thrive. Think about it. Has your flight been delayed for hours in the last few months? Has your baggage been misplaced? Or did you miss your flight due to a last-minute terminal change? If so, this blog is for you.
Today, we'll explore the harsh realities of India's aviation industry. We'll understand why Indian airlines are failing, the challenges of running an airline business in India, how airlines make money, and the problems they face today. There are 5 core reasons for these issues. If we can address them, no one can stop us from becoming the 'Golden Bird.'
This blog is especially interesting for travel enthusiasts like you and me. If you agree with us, like the blog and follow us.
India is the world's fastest-growing aviation market. Last year, 15 crore people traveled domestically and 7 crore internationally. This number is more than the population of 180 countries, demonstrating how many Indians love to fly. There's a market principle: The more demand, the more revenue, and the more revenue, the more profit. But Indian airlines are different. In the past few years, Jet Airways shut down, GoAir declared bankruptcy, and Kingfisher Airlines crashed. Why is this happening in a market with so much demand?
Let's delve into the first reason. Reason number one is capital. Money is required to run any business, but an airline business requires a lot of money. Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Atlantic Airline, famously said, "If you want to be a millionaire, start with a billion dollars and then start an airline." JRD Tata, India's first aviator who started Air India, understood this as well. He knew operating airlines was tough.
What can be the biggest expense of an airline? Can you guess? Of course, it's the planes themselves. Airlines either buy aircraft directly from Boeing or Airbus or lease them, paying rent. IndiGo recently placed the biggest purchase order in aviation history, purchasing 500 A320 planes from Airbus for delivery between 2030 and 2035. Air India, on the other hand, leases Boeing planes from the American company Delta. Lease essentially means renting, so they have monthly payments. The cost of buying a plane is high, so companies use different methods to manage these high costs.
Now, let's discuss the second major cost. Airlines spend 35-50% of their budget on fuel, which is aviation fuel or ATF. It's a mixture processed from crude oil that powers jet engines and ensures they function well at high altitudes without the fuel freezing. ATF prices in India are linked to international crude oil prices. Premium airlines like Kingfisher lost a lot of money due to a price jump between July 2007 and 2008. Since India doesn't have its own oil reserves and must import it, Gulf and American airlines have an advantage because they control oil or the dollar, while India controls neither. Price fluctuations significantly affect Indian airlines.
The second reason is uncertainty. If you've traveled around Delhi during winters, you've likely heard of the "fog season." Low visibility can ground aircrafts. Pilots and passengers are ready, but the flight cannot take off until visibility improves. As frequent flyers, we understand that some things are beyond the airlines' control. However, if a flight is delayed, the airlines should provide accurate information to passengers. For significant delays, they should arrange food or allow passengers to cancel their flights. This is within the airline's control. Slapping the pilot is an extreme and unacceptable reaction. But if we know flights won't fly due to fog, why aren't better policies implemented? Passengers miss flights for being a minute late, and airlines charge extra for even 1 kg of overweight luggage, but they face no fines or compensation for their mistakes. It seems the responsibility lies solely with the passenger, despite the saying "the customer is king." Once we check in our luggage, we're at the airline's mercy, forced to comply with their policies. This is a surefire way to anger customers. Imagine someone traveling from Delhi to Bangalore for a one-day meeting and their flight is delayed by 10 hours. In such a situation, the delay makes the travel pointless. Shouldn't they have the option to cancel the flight?
Events like COVID-19 negatively impact the global aviation industry. In 2020, according to estimates, the global airline industry suffered losses of $84 billion. As pandemic restrictions lifted, the aviation sector began to pick up. These losses reduced to $51 billion in 2021 and $11.6 billion in 2022.
During peak seasons like Diwali and New Year, demand for travel is high, but it dips significantly during the rest of the year. This uneven distribution of demand creates challenges for airlines. Airlines rely heavily on business travelers for weekday travel.
The third reason is operations. Airlines generate revenue through three main avenues: passenger revenue, cargo revenue, and food and beverage revenue. Passenger revenue includes ticket sales and convenience fees, which some argue shouldn't exist since the booking is done on the airline's website. Additional passenger revenue comes from modifications, cancellations, seat selection, excess baggage, and special service requests. Every airline also deals in cargo, either through dedicated cargo flights or parcel services. Full-service airlines like Air India and Vistara offer complimentary meals on domestic flights, while budget airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet, and GoAir don't. Passengers on these airlines can pre-book meals or purchase them from the in-flight menu.
Typically, Indian commercial airlines generate most of their revenue from passenger-related services. However, the unpredictable nature of passenger numbers makes it difficult for airlines to accurately predict the number of airplanes needed. On the other hand, operational expenses are high. Pilot salaries, cabin crew salaries, engineer salaries, and other crew member salaries are significant expenses for airlines. When planes are flying, they consume fuel, and when they're on the ground, airlines incur grounding charges, which are essentially aircraft parking charges. In India, domestic and international flights take off from the same terminals, increasing these charges. Additionally, grounded aircraft from insolvent airlines occupy space at airports without paying for it.
As we learned earlier, Boeing and Airbus are foreign companies. For major repairs, planes need to be sent to these manufacturers' facilities, which can be outside India. Delays in these repairs can ground airplanes and endanger passenger safety, making them non-negotiable. GoAir, a low-cost airline that shut down last year, is a prime example. They had to ground most of their planes because their engines turned out to be faulty. Pratt & Whitney, the engine manufacturer, couldn't deliver spare parts on time, leading to the airline's shutdown.
The government also plays a significant role in the aviation industry. The policies they create can heavily impact airline businesses. For instance, during the lockdown from May 2020 to August 2022, the government mandated minimum fares between Rs. 2,900 and Rs. 8,800 for flights less than 40 minutes. This price cap created major problems for airlines. Additionally, both VAT and excise duty are levied on aviation turbine fuel (ATF). During COVID-19, Indian refiners prioritized exporting ATF over supplying it domestically, leading to an export tax on ATF. These high taxes increase fuel costs, squeezing airline profit margins. Furthermore, VAT rates on ATF vary by state, similar to petrol prices. So, if an airline frequently lands at an airport with a high VAT rate, they incur higher fuel costs. All these factors put Indian airlines at a disadvantage.
The final reason is brand loyalty. While India has a high total number of airline passengers due to its large population, per capita travel is low. Only 1% of India's population contributes to about 45% of all flights. This makes it challenging to build and maintain brand loyalty. Consider Kingfisher Airlines, a former premium airline, and IndiGo, a budget airline. Kingfisher was the first to offer complimentary headphones and provided ample legroom, making economy class feel more aspirational. IndiGo, on the other hand, focused on a bare-bones approach with minimal legroom and no complimentary meals. Today, IndiGo holds 62% of India's domestic air travel market share, while Kingfisher is defunct. For a large part of the Indian population who haven't even been on a plane, the experience of air travel itself is a novelty. Features and amenities come secondary to affordability. In a market where customers prioritize the cheapest option, building brand loyalty is difficult. Additionally, negative incidents can quickly tarnish an airline's reputation. For instance, some Boeing aircraft have experienced issues like wheels falling off during takeoff, engines catching fire, and sudden door openings. These incidents scare people and make them hesitant to fly. Similarly, if an airline misplaces your luggage, you'd likely be hesitant to fly with them again.
In conclusion, several factors contribute to the challenges faced by the Indian aviation industry. Fuel prices and dollar rates are beyond India's control. Government taxes are high, and policy changes can significantly impact businesses. Passenger concerns arise due to bad weather and mismanagement. Brand loyalty is difficult to build due to a combination of factors: limited travel experience for a large portion of the population, focus on affordability over brand differentiation, and potential negative incidents. Despite these challenges, the aviation industry remains crucial for India's growth. The country's diverse geography can be better connected through air travel, facilitating trade, tourism, and overall development. The real potential lies in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, where a growing population aspires to travel. As disposable incomes rise, so will the number of air travelers in India. These two factors are directly linked.
If you found this blog interesting, please share it with your friends and subscribe to our channel. The airline business teaches us a valuable lesson: to be profitable, you must keep your costs low. To make India the 'Golden Bird' again, we need to make air travel accessible. The right policies must be implemented to balance business needs with consumer satisfaction. Airlines need to build strong brands that prioritize customer experience. Sharing this message is important because a thriving aviation industry can significantly contribute to India's progress.
