he likes to think he has a handle on spotting those accustomed to zeefaring, and those who definitely did not belong in the port bars along his travels. there's a distinct difference, he believes, between the hardened zailors who dock at taverns to share drinks with other captains who look every bit as haunted as the rest of them, and then... well. not that.

"pardon my prying," a polite code among humans, he understands, for announcing that one is about to pry impolitely into another's personal life, "but are you perchance from the surface? you don't exactly..." hit bat ears twitch, lacking social graces of the creatures from this planet, "well, you don't look like a zailor."
