At first I was like “Ugh. Moulin Rouge on Broadway. Why?” And then I listened to it and remembered that it’s just Aaron Tveit, Karen Olivio, and Danny Burstein (who I all Stan from way back) just belting out pop songs and I’m for it. Listen, it can’t all be high art. Sometimes you need high melodrama and camp and Danny Burstein singing “Chandelier” while plying Aaron Tveit with Absinthe.

Okay I can’t remember if I posted last summer about “Moulin Rouge” after I saw it in Boston for its pre-broadway run...

But anyways now that the cast album is out I’m reminded again

Please for the love of Broadway Gods PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one who.....is incredibly disappointed?!??

Like....how do you have Aaron Tveit & Karen Olivio & Danny Burstein and a movie musical like THAT...and manage to fuck it up ROYALLY.

....like it was RIGHT THERE!! Sure okay...could tweak the story/book a bit, maybe add some songs! But LITERALLY NO ONE ASKED FOR THE NEW ADDITIONS TO BE POP SONGS AND MASHUPS. How hard would it have been to add ORIGINAL songs?!!!??? Sure there’s mashups in the movie but wow not every single song NEEDED to be a mashup...

How do you cut “One Day I’ll Fly Away” when you could’ve had Karen sing it!!?????!!???

How do you cut “The Show Must Go On” when you could’ve had DANNY BURSTEIN sing it...?!????

AND NO ONE FUCKING ASKED YOU TO TOUCH THE ORIGINAL “ELEPHANT LOVE MEDLEY” THAT’S FOR DAMN SURE

And maybe someone who’s seen the broadway run can confirm or deny if the ending is the same as the Boston run— is the finale & Satine’s death still the least climatic/least dramatic thing ever?? If so, wtf was the whole point of the show & ‘epic love story’ if it’s just gonna end like ~mEh~

So New York City Day 2 has not been so bad. Less smelly (maybe I'm finally getting used to it), beautiful neighborhoods, great nursery/coffee shop (Ruben would love it), best matcha latte, and Moulin Rouge did not disappoint. Karen Olivo and Aaron Tveit killed it.
