Not only did I have a shit ton of trouble with the BTS videos mixed aspect ratios (info here) but I swear they were filmed on Kevin’s flip phone. It’s grainy as hell not to mention the lighting in Katie’s interview is completely different between the clips. I tried to clean up the noise and I adjusted the lighting.

Behind the Scenes
I have uploaded them to YouTube but feel free to message me for the files
(*to my knowledge some of the footage was released online in America, included in a BTS special made in Australia, and alternative cuts were made by the Japanese distributor for their DVD release)
Behind The Scenes of Fixing Freakdog / Red Mist (2008) Behind The Scenes
Watch the 3 videos on Youtube

Red Mist's BTS videos don't work well with ripping software, the mix of (anamorphic widescreen) 16:9 and 4:3 in the mpeg file isn't understood so the software creates a file that is entirely 16:9, stretching the 4:3 segments. If you disable the anamorphic flag the 4:3 BTS footage displays correctly but 16:9 film clips are squashed, which is not ideal but since the film clips are superfluous it doesn't matter as much that they display incorrectly...
which might be fine for most people but it bugged the shit out of me
correct vs incorrect aspect ratios
The only way to get both to display correctly is to cut each time the aspect ratio changed, which as you can see by the markers/clips is a lot.
editing done with Shotcut
here's a clip from part way through the process - at the start you have the corrected 4:3, which cuts to the original 16:9 then is followed by the stretched 4:3
Merge the alternate cuts of the behind the scenes featurettes and interviews from DE and JP Merlin S1 DVDs. As each one is completed (obviously Katie’s interview is first) I’ll upload the Topaz VideoAI upscale and the original unedited video from the Japanese DVDs to YouTube. Additionally the merged video, it’s upscale & the untouched original files will be made available for edits and for archival purposes
1080p upscales of DVD extras - this will mostly be done in parallel with the scenepacks and edits but will encompass all the material.
I will also finish colour correcting (though probably not merging) the remaining Dracula interview
