Hidden Gems of Thailand: A Guide to Phang Nga's Stunning Beaches
Tumblr media
The Beaches At Phang Nga
Have you ever visited the lush, white sandy Phang Nga beaches? You need to if you are looking for a gorgeous, serene place to relax. Lucky for you, these gems can be accessed easily as part of a Phang Nga Bay tours or a kayaking tour of Phang Nga.
Phang Nga Bay's beaches offer a bustling array of activities for visitors. With numerous restaurants, options for swimming, snorkelling, boat rides, and tours are plentiful. For those seeking peace, there are serene beaches perfect for relaxing and leisurely walking along the sand. If you desire a destination that caters to all preferences, the beaches in the Phang Nga region are an ideal choice.
The most exquisite beaches stretch south of Takua Pa to the area facing Phuket. Several spots remain wild and undeveloped. Before the 1980s, it was possible to stroll along these beaches without spotting a single hotel.
Having introduced Phang Nga, let's explore the notable beaches within its mainland area, starting with Khao Lak Beach.
Khao Lak Beach
Khao Lak Beach, known for its stunning white sands, greets you as you near Phang Nga Province's coastline. "Khao Lak" encompasses the entire 30 km seaside stretch from Khao Lak Beach northward to Takua Pa.
This beach in Phang Nga Bay is ideal for swimming, with its stunning array of uniquely shaped rocks. The area's tranquillity is further enhanced by majestic pine trees, making it a perfect spot for relaxation.
The Chaopho Khao Lak shrine is a revered local landmark deeply respected by the community.
Increasing local businesses have contributed to Khao Lak Beach's self-sufficiency, reducing its dependence on outside ventures. These include numerous seafood restaurants with bamboo and thatch decor, an Italian eatery, and a handful of bars and shops. As a result, visitors have an array of options available. A must-visit is the Siam Turmeric restaurant, conveniently located at the entrance to the road leading to Khao Lak Beach.
Bang Lut Beach
Bang Lut Beach, another secluded gem along Phang Nga's west coast, boasts untouched natural beauty. Characterized by its serene atmosphere, this powdery beach is adjacent to a small fishing village with a quaint pier. With no development on its shores, Bang Lut is enveloped in lush palm and casuarina trees, adding to its tranquil charm.
Natai Beach
This beach stands out for its cleanliness, tranquillity, and untouched nature, making it ideal for relaxation. The gentle waves provide a peaceful setting perfect for photography. Its sandy expanse welcomes leisurely walks along the shore or to the pier, and the stunning sunsets are not to be missed. While it's great for picnics and basking in the evening sun, swimming is less advisable, though still safe. It might explain the limited number of resorts in the area.
Thai Mueang Beach
This beach in Phang Nga Bay boasts clear waters adjacent to pristine white sands. As one approaches the Tableau Naval Base, the landscape gradually ascends into forests and mangroves. Its proximity to the highway enhances accessibility. A unique feature of this beach is its role as a nesting site for sea turtles between November and February. Locals celebrate the hatchlings' journey to the sea each March with the annual "Sea Turtle Releasing Festival."
Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach, nestled within Phang Nga Bay, is renowned for its clear waters, soft golden sands, and gentle tides. The beach is lined with resorts offering stunning waterfront views. For those interested in marine life, snorkelling here provides an opportunity to explore a diverse array of fish and underwater plants.
Khuk Khak Beach
This vibrant beach in Phang Nga Bay is fringed with various resorts. Its crystal-clear waters are invitingly near a quaint fishing village, where visitors can observe local fishermen at work. Amenities such as eateries, shops, a market, and a nearby bus station ensure convenience and accessibility. Behind the beach, visitors will find serene small lagoons.
Bang Niang Beach
As a premier destination in Phang Nga, this beach is ideally suited for families and couples. With its shallow, inviting waters, swimming here is a delight at any time of day. It's okay; rock-free sand also makes for a splendid barefoot stroll, while shell seekers will find plenty to collect and admire.
As a holiday destination, this beach offers plenty to keep visitors engaged. Tours, guided by local agents, are readily available. Numerous bars, restaurants, and shops always ensure something to do. Accommodations are aplenty, with the entire stretch of the beachfront dotted with hotels. The area favours the more lavish, with luxury hotels and residential homes.

The Perfect Family Getaway Over a Tropical Thai Beach
Within the past few years my spouse and kids have been searching low and high for the perfect holiday destination that has something for the family to keep everyone fully entertained, but concurrently offers peace, quiet and right environment to be able to immerse oneself in, totally unwind and get off the treadmill as it were. We have been with a really nice spots during our search, but in all of the experiences we enjoyed, each one was missing a number of the key ingredients which we all agreed to entirely necessary to ensure that all of us to become totally satisfied and content. However, we now have just returned from my most recent family vacation and finally we are able to gladly report that we have found the right family getaway (providing your loved ones enjoy beach holidays) and that we wanted to share our find effortlessly you taking the time to see this post.
Tumblr media
The spot we found out that has something to keep us all entertained and happy was a relatively unspoiled 20km stretch of sandy beaches on the Andaman coast having a tropical jungle backdrop. -The region is known as Khao Lak and it is roughly an hour's drive from Phuket Airport terminal, and within Khao Lak is 3 main tourist spots; Bang La On, Khuk Khak & Bang Niang. Khao Lak literally means Lak Mountain and there's nature reserve on the mountain which makes for one with the local attractions which we thoroughly enjoyed during our nature walks and guided Jungle treks. Each of the three spots are fairly quiet, and possess accommodations which range from the height of luxury throughout to the backpackers spots to provide something for many budgets making this quaint, beautiful location in Thailand obtainable for all to experience. Actually if you like the more quiet side while on holiday then Khao Lak isn't only somewhere that's perfect as a family desired destination, but also for anyone that is wanting to unwind and relax in nature, and in my personal it makes for that ideal honeymoon location as there are many attractions that are impressive and interesting, while not being too flashy and intrusive. If you want to go and Khao Lak at an especially peace and quiet of year i quickly would advise going throughout the low season months which can be from April-November. Like I mentioned earlier in this post; there are accommodations to accommodate all budgets and cater for most tastes and in a place to put their head. We opted for renting a villa inside a resort as you may know from experience this will make our lives easier with their being staff on all during most hours to guide us with everything we needed. Also we like the privacy you obtain with a villa while still having a resort pool, bar, ร้านอาหาร เขาหลัก as well as in this specific case - a Kids Club, which suited us perfectly. So throughout the days we could leave the children to enjoy themselves with no matter the Kids Club had organised for your day, while we would set off on our scooter or on the guided tour to research the nearby attractions and places of interest - which there are lots of. The Villa also had a stunning sea view over the beach that based on local people had the most effective, most beautiful sunset inside the province. The beach is your ideal, soft, sandy type as well as the sea water is warm and as clear as can be, actually scuba diving is known to be quite enjoyable in this area as there is lots of sea life and several interesting things to see. When you enjoying diving, then make sure to book some lighter moments dives when visiting Khao Lak.

Khuk Khak Beach
Not too many other sets of footprints on that beach are there? There may be no undiscovered beaches in Thailand but there are many that feel that way. Khuk Khak Beach in Khao Lak is one such beach. With just palms, pines, sea and sky it’s one of those places that are beautiful for what they lack. It’s hard to get much further “away from it all” than Khuk Khak Beach.   [googlemaps…

August 28 - September 3 2017 [Week 16]
During the week, Kenneth and I weren’t able to spend a lot of time together since I had to work for most of the day. In the evening, we went to places such as Orchard Road and Causeway Point. It has been an exhausting week for me since I reached home around 9-10pm everyday and had to wake up at 6am for work.
Click ‘Text’ to read the rest of the post!
Thursday August 31 was another highly anticipated day. It was the day of our trip to Khao Lak, a small town in the province of Phang Nga in Thailand. We flew to Thailand after my work and arrived around 8pm at Phuket International Airport. It was another hour and a half drive to our resort. During the drive, we were both sleepy so we weren’t able to admire the Thai street scenery. Anyhow, it was too dark at night to see anything. There were barely any street lights in Khao Lak in the narrow and winding roads. Props to our driver for making it to our resort safe and sound.
I was awestruck by the amicable hospitality of Thai people. Everyone was extremely friendly and polite. After settling in, we made it to the Vongole Restaurant in our resort right before closing. I ordered fried rice and Kenneth ordered curry rice since we were hungry from the journey. For dessert, we had mango sticky rice, which became our staple dessert during this trip.
Tumblr media
Our first Thai meal!
Tumblr media
This is what I came here for.
The next morning on Friday September 1, we woke up and ate buffet breakfast from the resort. It was like no other buffet breakfast I experienced. There were main dishes such as rice, noodles, and vegetables, an assortment of cereal, drinks, and bread, a salad bar, and an egg station. It was unbelievable. I wanted to eat everything. After breakfast, we walked to Khuk Khak beach which was right beside our resort. It felt like our private beach since there was virtually nobody else there. The scenery was too beautiful for words. We also spent some time in the large saltwater pool that spans the entire resort. I got sunburnt but I didn’t complain because I had the best time in the world spending time with my babe.
Tumblr media
Can I just live here forever? I could get used to this breakfast.
Tumblr media
Our secret little private beach.
At noon, we rented bikes and cycled a kilometre outside our resort. We decided to have lunch at Lay’s Restaurant since it was highly recommended. It was the best decision of our lives. I ordered coconut juice, thus one of the servers literally took a fresh coconut and sliced it open. The coconut was 3 times larger than the ones I was used to seeing back in Vancouver and tasted a million times better. Kenneth ordered mango juice which was extremely fresh and delicious. We ordered pineapple fried rice and morning glory for the main courses and mango sticky rice for dessert. The food was heavenly. It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my entire life. So glad to have spent these moments with my favourite person.
Tumblr media
Aesthetics.
In the afternoon, we stopped at nearby massage place for a traditional Thai massage. It was an hour massage which costed an equivalent of $10! Although the massage place was outside, there was a gently breeze that kept us cool. The massage itself was relaxing although I felt sore in some places afterwards. At night, we took a taxi to Khao Lak center. There was only one main road which ran across the entire town. Many shops lined both sides of the road. Most of the shops were restaurants, massage parlours, and gift shops. We stopped for dinner at Spinach Restaurant and ordered curry and mixed vegetables. The food was also delicious, but I found the food at Lay Restaurant to be better. We didn’t want to eat mango sticky rice twice in a row, so we ordered pineapple pancakes for dessert. Also very delicious.
Tumblr media
Spot the pineapples.
We woke up early on the morning of Saturday September 2 to have breakfast since we booked an elephant trekking tour at 9am. The tour guide was slightly tardy in picking us up, but it was not a big deal. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We were able to converse easily with him since he was quite fluent in English. We visited Tongdee the elephant for an hour. It was a bumpy ride through the rubber plantations, but it was a unique experience. We passed by the villages where the locals lived, which was exactly like the countryside. We visited Sai Rong waterfall afterwards, and the tour guide explained to us the merchant activities of harvesting rubber. The harvesters needed to wake up at 3am every morning to tap the rubber tree. They hung a bowl to collect the latex, then brought it to the markets to sell. They worked for 13 hours per day during the rubber harvesting season, but it gave them a generous source of income. In contrast, harvesting fruits required less work each day and they could harvest all year round, but generated lower income.

The guide then brought us to a local restaurant called Takuapa. It was so local that the servers did not speak English. The guide explained that the restaurants in town are catered to travellers, which is why their food is less spicy. Kenneth ordered spicy curry while I opted for non-spicy food. I tasted a bit of his curry and nearly died. On the other hand, the guide ate a whole plate of the spicy curry. He explained that the locals eat this for breakfast as well. I was amazed at the spice tolerance of Thai people. He also bought us some fried bananas and yams as dessert at the wet market. Kenneth saw a fruit stall that sold santol and was so excited to try one as it was his favourite fruit in the Philippines. I tried it for the first time and it tasted like sour candy. We returned to the resort afterwards and thanked the guide. It was an amazing morning and we would definitely book a tour with this guide again.

After resting and freshening up, we wanted to get massages again. We called Silk Spa, who sent a car to our resort to pick us up. We chose the coconut oil massage this time which was much easier on the joints. We also enjoyed the coconut smell that lingered afterwards. We requested the driver to bring us to Bangniang market afterwards, where we walked around to marvel at the local clothing and food. We bought mango sticky rice, kueh, and Thai roti from the market which were cheap and delicious. Since we were both tired from the whole day’s activity, we ordered dinner take out from Hill Tribe Restaurant to eat in our resort. We ordered pad thai, curry, and banana shake. We had a night-in for our last night in Khao Lak, which was peaceful and relaxing. We will miss Khao Lak dearly.

Night in with my favourite babe.
The next morning on Sunday September 3, we left our resort at 6am to make it in time for our 9am flight. The driver drove like a madman to the airport, but I was too sleepy to bother. We got to the airport in an hour as opposed to the normal hour and a half. After arrival in Singapore, we ate at Penang Culture at Changi airport for lunch, since we did not eat much breakfast in Thailand. In the evening, I helped Kenneth settle in to his airbnb, then journeyed home.
