Kirkjufellsfoss is a picturesque waterfall located on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in Iceland. It is situated near the iconic Kirkjufell mountain, which has a distinct cone-shaped peak and is often referred to as the "Church Mountain" due to its resemblance to a church steeple.

December '23 Challenge: Ink & Wash Landscapes (Part 1)

So in addition to keeping up with my daily doodles, I decided to give myself an extra challenge for December. The media I most want to work on is ink and wash, and the subject is landsc apes.

The goal is to do twenty-four paintings by year's end. I got a late start and lost time to Covid, but if I can manage to do one a day, I'll finish just under the wire.

Kirkjufell's Temptation by Jos Buurmans Via Flickr: Resisting the urge to photograph Kirkjufell mountain is like trying to turn down a glass of Syrah at the end of the day, a temptation that's nearly impossible to resist. Even though I had told myself that I wouldn't succumb to capturing an image that countless others had already taken, I found myself standing in awe of this iconic mountain, its unique silhouette framed by the cascading waterfall in the foreground. As the golden hour bathed the landscape in its enchanting glow, I experimented with different angles and compositions, searching for that one shot that would add a personal touch to this timeless vista. As I worked my way down to the lower tier of the waterfall, I found a view that encapsulated the magic of Kirkjufell during this beautiful time of day.

We stayed at a vacation rental across the water from Kirkjufell Mountain, and had a lot of time to enjoy the view during all weather and time of day.

The one restaurant you have to try is Bjargarsteinn, by far our best meal on the trip. The Icelandic Scallop, Red Fish, and Seafood Soup are excellent choices. The lamb is a bit bland though.
