warning for probably way overthinking a magical girl show for kids lol
wow, episode 38 really took a turn that I wasn't expecting!
first thing that I want to touch on is when Haruka remarked that Kurosu (good cover, Close) was the only boy aside from Kanata that had ever encouraged her to become a princess instead of laughing at her, and I think that that part of her character is super interesting and relatable to girls who grew up being "undesirable" in the eyes of boys for xyz reason. As someone who grew up getting confessed to as a joke or being told that someone was interested in me as a joke, even beyond the romantic implications, I relate to Haruka being happy that a boy took her seriously and saw her as more than just stupid or whatever. For Haruka, her whole life dealing with boys has been navigating their distaste of her if she opened up to them, and I think it's cool that the show touched on that. I personally choose to think that the show is talking about boy and girl friendships and focusing on the fact that systemic sexism that has been trained into boys since childhood can destroy young girls' sense of self. which brings me to the other thing! the big thing!
imagine being told by the one person who you clung to as inspiration for a large part of your life that their inspirational words to you were a mistake....it's natural that Haruka would be irreparably devastated!!
I think this part specifically highlights the role of the "prince" in stories like this, and how they react with a "princess"'s agency to essentially create or destroy it at will. And isn't that so cruel? I'm having trouble putting my thoughts into words, but it feels very meta (?) that Kanata, a character who has thus far been beyond reproach and a source of inspiration for the Cures as a mythical prince, would stomp over Haruka's feelings as a princess, thus bringing her down to Earth and robbing her of her power and dreams. I'm not necessarily saying that Kanata is like a bad person or whatever, as from his point of view, this young girl he barely knows is almost killing herself and saying it's for him--instead, I just think that it's interesting that the situation shows the impact that a man's approval can have on a woman/girl's self-image in a heteronormative society.
It remains to be seen how the show will handle this--will they just walk it back, and have Haruka forgive him? Or will Haruka realize that it's unhealthy for both of them to depend solely on Kanata for her dream? Guess we'll see!!
Name meaning: I decided to keep his name Taro as it fits him, meaning eldest son(get it cause he’s the older sister of Hanako hahahaha very funny). But I changed his last name to Kurosu. His last name in Kanji is 黒須.
黒 meaning black, 須 meaning ought, by all means, necessarily. Get it cause he’s important to the game- I’ll stop.
Character description:
Taro has grown up in a calm and average life. Respecting his parents dearly and treating his little sister well! He doesn't realise his popularity in Akademi high as he is usually reading one of his favourite books while sitting on the fountain. He’s so mysterious and that may seem attractive to some, well to 7 girls at least(3 who don’t romantically love him but can be a threat to a romantic relationship if he was to pursue one). Although he seems completely oblivious to this as he hasn’t taken notice to much of the girls about their attraction. Although is there more to him than just ‘hot mysterious bookworm’?
My reasons:
This guy needed a lot of fixing and I’m sure the fandom can agree with that. How can ten girls be so in love with him when he’s so BORING? eleven if you count Haruka lmao). Well I’ll admit, his whole thing is kinda a gag but I made him canonically very attractive. That way it will make more sense for so many girls to be interested in him. Although I do imagine him being quite shy and awkward with those around him since…teenagers(they are actually teenagers in this). His whole facade to people who haven’t talked to him is ‘wow! He’s so cold and mysterious! Not even bothering to talk to people around him’. But actually he’s just shy and likes book more than people.
How will his relationship be with Ayano?
Whatever the player decides, think of this as a dating sim/killing game. You can get to know Senpai every day of the school week instead of creepily following him around then make improvements to know him. Every morning you go through an interaction with him depending on your relationship as he is the guy that checks everyone’s uniforms! He has beef with Musume and her group and the occult club because of this but not like actual hate. If you two are on good terms you might be able to break the dress code a bit(helping you hide more weapons and items if needed). And also it will improve his attraction with you of course. If you have a bad relationship with him however like doing suspicious things and ruining your reputation he’ll be more cold to you and more stricter, not being as interested in you. So make sure to keep you reputation and or not be a creep!
