Thanks for the ask XD
7) Favorite protagonist?
I usually gravitate toward side characters more that main ones, but if I had to pick protagonists that I genuinely love, I would have to say Lina Inverse, from The Slayers novels (who in my opinion, is one of the most realistic female teenage characters in all of literature), Sherlock Holmes from, of course, Sherlock Holmes (in the books, he’s way more virtuous and kind than in most movie/show adaptations), and of course Bostwick von Dogsbody, from The Styx Trilogy (but maybe I’m biased :3)
12) What would you like to see more of in literature in the future?
I wish literature wouldn’t take itself so seriously. For lit fic, this means fewer stories of “loss and longing”. For fantasy, this means less wallowing in depravity. For YA, this would look like teenagers being goofy/silly rather than only ever being witty/snarky. I also wish that Western literature could have more genuine comedy in books that aren’t marketed specifically as comedy. Also, Europe-based fantasy that involves monks, nuns, and other celibates as actual characters who are an important part of society would be a nice change of pace.
24) What has inspired you lately?
The 1963 film Kwaidon, which is about Japanese ghost stories, and the game Okami, which involves Japanese mythology and folklore. Not only am I gearing up for writing a ghost story in the fall, I also love how Kwaidon and Okami visually show the differences between how spirits experience reality vs how humans do. It’s something I plan on incorporating in my writing, and something I want to blog about later.
