S1 Rewatch: Lena’s Take [1.04]

its technically past midnight aka not rewatch day anymore but ill be DAMNED if i miss a reread day and dont have a chance to ramble abt all of this (and i always have a lot to say)!

favourite scene: either rl and the mistletoe... GOD BLESS BOLD FLIRTY RILEY AND OBLIVIOUS LUCAS.... or the scene where the divas n charlie all go off to the diner, a la farkle. very cute contrast from maya messing w the boys earlier in the ep, a step closer to friends and development for farkle, and serotonin for me because zay and charlie are hanging out (albeit with the two most dramatic, mood killing students aaa has to offer). it also shows that like. despite all the earlier drama and insults, at the end of the day they’ve all got each other’s backs.. they’re all in this together.

favourite performance: you’re a mean one mr grinch. comedy gold, literally right there. im joking when i say maya dismantled the patriarchy with the three words stink, stank, stunk, but like. go off ICON!

favourite character this ep: lucas kinda said im baby!! maya and riley also were really great, maya’s dual roles as warring diva fighting for her spotlight and loving daughter craving her mother’s time really showcase the versatility of her character and make her a very sympathetic character eho is simultaneously an absolute baddie. riley’s here because this ep (read: every ep,) she’s just a helpful sweetie that had never done wrong ever in her life (lucas: i know this and i love you)

favourite line: “take me for a test drive.” oh sweet riley. you are my darling.

an underrated moment: theres a lot this ep and idk if this is really one of them but i want to say that nothing is funnier television than lucas just. stopping mid forkful when riley sits down. its also lovely on a more serious note because it’s the first time we really see anyone have the upper hand with lucas, or get a reaction that isn’t detached cool, annoyance and boredom, or anger. it’s a nice little moment that holds a LOT of lovely rl weight considering she is the first one to really cause a split second of POSITIVE vulnerability

something i missed the first time around: just mentions of charlie avoiding zay, esp at the beginning. made me a touch sad :( zay n charlie please positively interact so i can rewatch u fall in love for a pinch of serotonin.

first impression vs your reread impression: i completely forgot jack and shawn had those sweet brotherly holiday moments!! i hope we get more of them being good bros in s2. anyway i liked this ep both times very much, but staying consistent to my other ep rereads, i think i was able to appreciate it a lot more rereading it!! full of GOOD techie moments (i love it when the loveably dysfunctional family dynamic of the techie crew is highlighted... also for some reason i find myself incredibly attached to jade as a character

so lucas definitely did say im baby (he is), but your lil mini dissertation about riley having the upper hand with him... whew. whew! yeah! that’s MY serotonin for the day. you’re right you said that completely right... hm guess i will go cry over how much i love them. word up on that!
