a relationship gone sour
Warnings: physical abuse, toxic relationships, swearing, the whole ‘yandere’ trope, heavily implied death
Pairing: yandere! Tendou Satori x gender neutral reader
Themes: uhm? read the warning again pls
Word count: 1869 - one-shot
Summary: You and your friends devised a plan to escape your toxic relationship, however Tendou ends things before you even get the chance to.
…You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy, when skies are grey…
A familiar hum traveled with the cool breeze that tickled his cheeks. The smell of wet concrete lingered in the air from the heavy downpour earlier. The streetlights had automatically turned off some time ago and the moon hid behind dark, dried-up clouds. ‘Would you be happy to see him? Excited, even? Or would you look at him the same way you’d begun to for many weeks now?’ Tendou could only wonder. For a moment he was worried he’d arrived too early, but it didn’t matter. He promised you that he would visit – even if you didn’t know it yet.
***
Your legs felt heavy once you finally emerged from the bathroom, a yawn escaping your lips. You weren’t used to staying up so late; you had met up with a couple of friends for a much-needed study session and lost track of time. Once you all finally parted ways it was already past midnight and all that you could do was mentally apologize to your future self for being exhausted the following day.
Conversation of school gossip quickly turned into a targeted interrogation towards you. To be fair, your friends were deeply worried for you. They made no secret of their dissatisfaction in your relationship since you heard every complaint under the sun. Gentle concern eventually turned to stern berating out of desperation and much to their dismay, you easily brushed off their remarks and defended Tendou every. Single. Time.
Tendou always stood out to you as an oddball type; he was loud, playful and marched to the beat of his own drum. You fell in love with his quick wit and sardonic humor and grew innately protective over him when you learned about his difficult childhood.
But as months passed, the line between satire and sincerity became more and more blurred. It wasn’t until he would become increasingly obsessive and his lampooning more threatening that you understood the gravity of his words. You were constantly walking on eggshells around him as your formerly sweet relationship quickly turned acidic.
You weren’t wearing your rose-colored glasses anymore and the confession of your relationship woes were met with sighs of relief. Grammar structure and algebraic formulas soon became trivial as you and your friends started planning a way for you to escape your toxic relationship. The worry that weighed heavily on your mind finally lifted as you felt the warm compassion of your closest friends’ envelope you like a heated blanket.
How long has it been since you felt this way?
You smiled to yourself – still riding feathery-light high from earlier – and brushed your thoughts aside, deciding to deal with them again in the morning. You rounded the corner into the hallway, a slight spring in your step as you went, before stopping abruptly.
The light went out.
You made a mental note to replace the broken lightbulb as soon as possible. While you weren’t shrouded in complete darkness, the newly missing light source still created an illusive atmosphere that you weren’t fond of. Your shadow crept up and bounced off the walls and the end of the hallway was left in pitch-darkness. The only thing you could barely make out was the faint outline of your clothes that hung from the clothes stand, creating an eerily human-like shape. You considered to check the door to see if it was locked but decided against it; you were just being paranoid and in your sleepy state it was expected for your mind to play tricks on you.
What you didn’t expect was for the shape to take a step forward.
Your breath hitched in your throat and you could feel how each individual hair stood on end. The figure took another agonizingly slow step forward, revealing its silhouette to be that of a male with a tall, lanky build. You wanted nothing more than to run away, but the cold shiver that went down your spine had you completely frozen. Your legs had locked themselves in place and all you could do was watch in horror as they took a third step forward, the dim lighting cascading across his face and illuminating his features.
“Satori!”
“Hello there, Sunshine.” His tone was sardonic, fleering as he extended his arms towards you. “I’ve missed you… how about a hug?”
You wanted to reply but only managed to choke out a cough; the sharp, excruciating pain at the back of your head traveled down your spine and spread outwards, making your whole backside throb. You didn’t even have time to react when he lunged forward, toppling you off your feet and knocking the wind out of your lungs. The room felt as if it were spinning as you hopelessly watched Tendou and his double merge in and out of each other, both of them offering you an ear-splitting grin. A painful, heavy pressure provoked another coughing fit and your eyes darted to the source – the center of your chest caved in where Tendou deeply dug his knee, the other planted firmly on your left arm while one hand pinned your right down.
You tried desperately to thrash your legs in a frantic attempt to kick him off, but the way you were angled made it nearly impossible to reach him. He remained unyielding as he stayed perched onto you like a gargoyle, his crimson eyes boring into you acrimoniously. A pout formed on his lips as he watched you squirm beneath him, tilting his head so unnaturally that it practically rested on his shoulder.
“Is that any way to greet the love of your life?” he cooed.
“Satori please, I can’t- I can’t breathe,” you gasped, still convulsing in pain.
“Hm? Oh, guess I don’t know my own strength,” he responded dispassionately, focusing his attention on the dirt under his nails. He knew exactly what he was doing, this was all just a child’s play for him. With Tendou it was always a game – and you were the prize. You shifted beneath him, finally able to somewhat breathe as the pressure elevated.
“Satori, sweetheart – if this is about before, then you have nothing to be jealous about! I was just studying-”
“Huh?” he leaned back with crossed arms, not enough loosen his grip but enough so that he almost sat upright. “Jealous? This has nothing do with jealousy. I made you a promise, remember?”
A promise? Your mind frantically raced trying to remember when he had promised you something. What promise?
He smiled wryly and answered as though he had read your mind, “I promised you that I would keep you safe – that I would keep our relationship safe. I know everything about you and I’ll be damned if anything ever gets between us!”
You winced at his menacing tone; you always knew Tendou could switch from cheerful to incredibly threatening at the drop of a hat and you regretted not listening to your friends sooner. However now, dread enveloped you as you felt a sense of foreshadowing in his words.
“Satori… I am safe! I’m not going anywhere, see?”
His face softened and he abruptly leaned forward, his face just inches above your own. His breath tickled your nose and you had to collect all your willpower to not recoil as his long fingers caressed the side of your cheek ever so gently.
“That’s a lie.”
Your eyes widened in panic as you felt your whole body be overcome with despair.
“Satori, I –”
“I thought we had a pretty good thing going for us. You really accepted me fully and I am so, so thankful for that.” Despite his casual delivery, there was a genuine fondness written on his face, only revealed by the small crinkles that developed under his eyes. “So, when you started to look at me the way everyone else did – like some freak – I knew that wasn’t you. My beloved Y/N wouldn’t look at me like I’m some fucking monster.”
“I – I don’t think that – I would never think you’re a monster!”
You were interrupted by a deafeningly loud clap, the sound still echoing through the room as you felt blistering sting from where Tendou’s hand met your cheek. You briefly saw him multiply again, but even through blurred vision you could see his manic eyes twinkle like rubies.
“Goodness Y/N, you’re just full of lies today!”
His cheery tone made you cower. You knew you couldn’t overpower your 6’2” boyfriend – you already tried that – so in your desperation all you had left was to reason with him.
“Satori please! I’m your sunshine, remember…? You wouldn’t want to hurt your sunshine, right?” your pleas came out as pathetic whimpers, hot tears threatening to spill over your cheeks, already sticky and tear-stained from before.
“Well, yeah I guess.” His face turned thoughtful for a split-second while he considered your words. “But you’re also the one who took my sunshine away. Y/N wouldn’t look at me like I’m some demon.” He shrugged nonchalantly, his expression immediately returning to its morbid excitement.
“But if that’s what you think, then I’ll show you a real fucking abomination.”
He leaned forward and planted a kiss onto your right cheek. Then your left. You wanted to scream but your cries stopped in your throat, right where Tendou had wrapped his long, calloused fingers.
“I wanted to be mad at you, but I just can’t. It’s my fault all of this happened, I failed at protecting you.”
He fastened his grip, adding additional pressure through his digits and onto your larynx. While you felt your throat tighten, you could also feel the weight on your chest get heavier as Tendou slowly and tortuously added more of his bodyweight. His frenzied breath and your choked cries were only drowned out by the earsplitting cracks of your ribs. With both arms freed, you frantically tried to pry his fingers off, scratching his face and punching him as hard as you could. He didn’t even react – completely ignoring the scratches that now decorated his face. The hits you landed felt more like pesky flies to him.
“Forgive me, but I have to do this. It’ll only take a sec.”
Tendou’s grip tightened, silencing you completely. Exhaustion overwhelmed you as the adrenaline from before started to wear off. The weight of your arms felt like cinderblocks as they slowly drooped down, just faintly clasping at the fabric of his sleeves.
“I wish things could have been different.”
You were unsure of who spoke as Tendou’s multiples reappeared, almost as if to taunt you while a black haze emerged from the corners of your eyes. His eyes gleamed nefariously and his face split into a maniacal, shit-eating grin – a final farewell – as your vision fully eclipsed.
“I’m sorry.”
***
The pillowy clouds from earlier had finally dissipated once Tendou stepped back outside, veiling the sleepy neighborhood in a dim moonlight. The breeze from before had died down, leaving the air stagnant. How ordinary. Nothing stood out on this night except for the familiar tune that could be faintly heard in the distance.
…You’ll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away…

A/N: Chapter 16 of Meant to Be.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
He’s woken by a buzzing sound right next to his ear. When he finally realizes that it’s his phone ringing he reaches out and is surprised by whose face is on the screen. His eyes dart over to the right side of the bed where his fiancé currently is not.
“Good morning, handsome.”
He can hear the smile in her voice, stunning him for a minute because as cheesy as it may be today’s the first day of the rest of their life. “Hey, where are you?”
“Well, Chloe and I just picked up our dresses and are headed to my parents’ house. She’s so excited.” Kensi says laughing because she’s that happy.
He lays back down resting his head on his pillow as he thinks about when he and his soon to be wife told their little girl that they were getting married.
(September 7, 2014)
They’re sitting on the couch after dinner all curled up as they watch the toys join hands and wait for their fiery demise. Soon the room is filled with sniffles, needing the comfort that she can only get from the two of them, Chloe turns to her parents with tears in her eyes.
“Oh, baby.” Kensi reaches over wiping her daughter’s tear stained cheeks and pulls her into her lap unable to stop her own tears.
He’s solely focused on his two girls as their tears continues to fall. As he watches his fiancée pull the little brunette in her arms he can’t help but do the same. Taking hold of Kensi’s arm, he pulls her towards him.
Knowing exactly what he’s doing, she maneuvers herself and sits in his lap, curling herself into him as Chloe does the same to her. “We’re a mess.”
Marty runs his fingers through her brown locks trying to sooth her as much as possible as they continue to watch the scene play out.
The watch in suspense as the claw comes out of nowhere scooping up the beloved friends bringing a resounding sigh of relief through the house. A few minutes later and Bonnie is left with the toys as they begin their new adventure and speaking of new adventures.
Marty looks down at the two brunettes with a neutral expression trying his best not to give anything away. “I think we should celebrate.”
The first grader perks up. If she gets a chance to get her favorite dessert then she’s gonna take it. “Ice cream?!”
“I love where your head’s at, sweet girl, and ice cream for sure but…..your daddy and I were thinking about something else.”
Her tiny brow furrows wondering what it could possibly be. “What?”
“Well what do you think about your mom and I getting married next Sunday?”
“Really?!”
They both nod affirming her question. “Really.”
She squints for a second as if she’s trying to put something together and then as if a lightbulb in her head goes off the puppy eyes make themselves known. “Can there be an ice cream cake?”
Kensi’s eyes go wide and she quickly turns towards her soon to be husband almost giving herself whiplash. “Oooh, can there?!”
The blonde laughs, they wouldn’t be his girls if food wasn’t on their minds. “Anything for my girls.”
(Present)
“Aw, but why aren’t you here?” He pouts, going back to the fact that it’s their special day and he really wants to be with her.
“You know exactly why.”
“Happy wedding day, wifey.”
“Happy wedding day, babe.”
He takes a quick look at the clock on the wall already counting down the minutes until he can see her again. “So I’ll see you guys in about four hours?”
Kensi’s heart flutters at the fact that he’s counting down until they see each other again. It’s only been 8 hours since they said goodnight in their own way and honestly it’s been the longest 8 hours of her life. “Yes, and I put your khakis and that blue button down I love in the bathroom. They’re hanging on the door.”
He know he’ll be a blubbering mess once he sees her and he’ll most definitely be at a loss for words but she needs to know this. “The way I feel when I am with you…I just-I can’t wait to marry you, Kens.”
“Me either.” She takes a deep breath because if she doesn’t she’s gonna pass out, damn her fiancé and his way with words. “Listen, I have to go before Chloe has another meltdown.”
“Another meltdown?”
“Yeah, she said everything has to look perfect for her mommy and daddy.”
He huffs a laugh. Their girl is a bit of a control freak even at seven years old. “We’re gonna have our hands full when she gets older.”
“Indeed we are.”
“Okay, I’ll let you get to it then.” He doesn’t want to say goodbye but the sooner he does the sooner they can both get ready and meet each other at the end of the aisle. “I love you, baby.”
“I love you, too, handsome.” She’s just about to end the call when a lightbulb goes off in her head. “Oh, and there may be a surprise for you in the living room.”
“Oh, really?”
“Bye.”
“Bye, beautiful.”
After hanging up the phone he hurriedly gets out of bed, slips on his boxers and runs down the hallway more excited than a kid on Christmas morning. He’s search the living room, looking on and under every piece of furniture but nothing is sticking out.
“Hey there, sleepyhead.”
His head snaps towards the very unexpected yet very familiar voice as his brother walks out of the kitchen with a piece of bacon in his hand. “Callen? How did-“
“I get here?”
“Yeah.”
“Well about five days ago I got a call from a fiery brunette about how my brother was getting married and I’d better get my ass to LA or else.” Callen laughs when he remembers the phone call from Kensi whose so clearly in love with his brother. “I gotta tell you, Marty, your fiancé is not a woman I want to mess with.”
That’s when the CIA agent loses him as Marty drift off into dream land thinking about what’s waiting for him at the beach.
XXXX
She rests her head on her husband’s chest as they sway back and forth to the music coming from the small white tent a few feet away. The past week has been a whirlwind but she wouldn’t have it any other way. Her life had never been rainbows and unicorns but when she had Chloe all of that changed. She loves her little girl with all her heart but something inside her was still missing, they were missing that piece of the puzzle that would complete their family. For six years she’d all but given up on finding a man that would love, respect and treat her like she deserved to be treated. A man that would love her little girl as if she were his own. Then one day, 373 days ago to be exact, he abruptly came into their lives and changed their entire world. She had found that missing piece.
“What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?” He places a kiss to the top of her head breathing in the scent that is so uniquely her.
“Just feeling content that’s all.”
“Oh, it wouldn’t have anything to do with the way my ass looks in these khakis would it?”
She bites her lip when he says what she was thinking the first time she saw him in the particular pair of pants. Why else would she pick them out for him to wear on their wedding day. “You’re an idiot.”
“Yeah, but I’m your idiot, Kensi Deeks.”
Resting her chin on his chest, she looks up at him so mesmerized by this moment.
He looks down at her getting a full view of the beautiful face that he’ll get to wake up to every morning for the rest of his life. “What?”
“We’re married.”
“We are. Are you happy?”
She smiles as he leans forward closing the distance between their lips for an all consuming passionate kiss. When air becomes scarce they both pull back panting. “Deliriously.”
“Me too.”
“I love you.”
“I love you more, wifey.”
“Don’t start a fucking battle you can’t win.”
“Oooh, save some of the dirty talk for tonight.” He wiggles his eyebrows at her but he’s unprepared for the seductive gleam that is shining in her eyes as she bites her bottom lip.
Before she has a chance to respond they hear the sound of a small voice being carried by the wind. Kensi pulls back from her husband’s embrace and smiles at the sight of their little girl running towards them with something in her hand.
“Daddy! Daddy!”
“Hey, princess, what’s up?”
“I got something for you.”
“You do? What is it?”
Kensi remains curled up in Marty’s side resting her head against his shoulder as she watches the tiny brunette hand him a piece of paper.
His eyes immediately see the bold black words at the top of the page and tears begin to flood his cerulean blues. Adoption Request. “Really?”
He says it just loud enough for her to hear. It’s so faint and filled with awe that tears being to make theirselves known in her own mismatched orbs when she looks up at him. “Of course really. But if you don’t want to-“
“No, it’s not that it’s just that, I consider us a family no matter what but are you sure this is what you both want?” Looking into his wife’s eyes he tries to find anything that would qualify as doubt, but of course the only thing he finds in the beautiful chocolate orbs that have become his home is love, uninhibited, irrevocable love.
He’s so lost in her eyes that he’s unaware of what’s going on until he feels something pull at his shirt, rather someone. His eyes look down toward the little girl that along with her mother has become his whole world. Realizing that she has something to say to him, he gets down on his knees so that he’s eye level with her.
Standing directly in front of him, looking deep into his eyes the seven year old brings her hands to either of his cheeks, holding his head in her hands. “You’re my daddy.” As she says the words one of purest looks he’s ever seen is shining bright in her eyes.
His arms immediately wrap around her as he lifts her in the air, peppering her face with kisses. “I love you, squirt.”
Kensi was already a sobbing mess before but now, now that they’re officially going to be a family, she can help the torrential rain of tears that run down her cheeks.
After he pulls back from his soon to be legal daughter’s face, he turns back towards the love of his life, his arm instantly finding its way around her shoulder as he pulls her back into her rightful place at his side. His eyes look between both his girl, the shear and utter contentment that runs through his body is the most breathtaking feeling he’s ever known. “I love you both so much.”
“We love you, too.” The brunette reaches up on her tips toes placing a kiss to her husband’s inviting lips.
The scene of the family bathed in the colors of the Santa Monica sunset halt the party guest. Each of them knowing just how much those three people were meant to be together.
love binds all { AO3 }
[ Chapter 1 link ]
“Maybe we can be your new home,” Cordelia warmly offered, a smile curling at her lips, “Would you like that?”
Despite going through the motions, she was overjoyed to relive this moment again. This was when she joined her sisters, found a true home in her new friends. It touched her heart. Mallory nodded, “Very much.”
As Cordelia led her on tour through the house, Mallory mulled over how, actually, nothing seems to have changed. They passed by several witches that she recognized as the newer coven members. The house was still vibrant, warm with positive energy. Maybe Cordelia had killed Michael at some point?
She almost gasped when she saw Myrtle leading a lesson with Zoe. How was Myrtle still here? Was the threat of the apocalypse looming?
Cordelia held a hand up to an elegant portrait of Queenie. “This was one of our most beloved council members. Her gifts had been unique, her strength unparalleled, and I…” the Supreme trailed off, guilt and sadness written on her face. “She’s missed dearly every day. Excuse me. Feel free to explore on your own. This is your home now, Mallory.”
Mallory nodded, trying to keep her true reaction from surfacing. What the fuck. If Michael was alive, wouldn’t he have rescued Queenie from the hotel by now? She was still trying to piece together what could have changed in the timeline when she felt the heavy weight of eyes on her. Her skin prickled as she turned her head.
He lounged on the floor in midst of the other studying witches, a thick open book in his lap. His golden curls perfectly framed his face, a halfway point between his childhood mop and the long waves of that cursed future. He was tastefully dressed in all black, in tune with the converged fashion sense of the coven. He looked every bit the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Fear spiked in her blood. She’d left a viper in her home. How could she be so stupid. Her heart pounded in her ears.
He was staring right at her.
“Don’t bother. That’s Cordelia’s son, which roughly translates into ‘prude as fuck’.”
Mallory flinched at the interruption to her focus, startled by the witch bitch’s presence. “Madison,” she gasped, unable to contain her shock. She bit her tongue to keep from asking how she’s still alive.
“You know me from my movies?” the blonde lit up, obviously pleased with herself.
Instead of answering, she glanced back to Michael, who had returned to his book. “What do you know about him?”
“He’s a twisted, little freak. Probably gay since he didn’t let me blow him.”
“So, he never did anything good for you?” she (not so) subtly asked, trying to dig for more information.
Madison raised a brow at the strangely worded question. “No. Not that I ever needed him to. If you really want a good fuck, I’d try any one of the lesbians. If you see another hot blonde guy, you should make a move on him. Kyle’s a great fuck when he’s not totally whipped by Zoe.”
Dead-pan expression, she flatly said, “Thanks, Madison. I’ll keep that in mind.” Does that mean Madison never died in the first place? Her eyes slid closed as she fought off a migraine, “Do you know where I’ll be staying? I had a long drive and I want to rest.”
All she wanted was to go to her own room to sit and think, but she couldn’t claim the empty room on the end of the east hall. With a roll of her eyes, Madison led her through the house. Relief flooded her when she reached her old room. At least that will stay the same. With mumbled thanks, she entered and closed the door behind her.
The room was empty besides the bare furniture. The curtains were drawn, casting it into darkness as well. The bed looks the same, clean white sheets already made like they’d been when she’d moved in during her previous timeline. She dropped onto it like dead weight, the spring creaking in resistance.
Eyes closed, her mind spun with all the information she has so far. One change, and everything has been inverted. She suspected, based on Madison’s shallowness, that she had never died. Or at least, hadn’t died a second time. She’ll need to map out the new timeline piece by piece, all while determining what exactly her sympathy for the devil had achieved.
“Please, make yourself comfortable.”
She jolted up, heart leaping from the shock. Michael stood tall and looming at the foot of the bed. The door hadn’t opened. He must have transmuted here. The question of what he was doing here died on her lips.
That’s when she noticed the clothes, in particular, a series of black dress shirts, in the partially opened closet.
Her old room in the previous timeline was his room now. Madison had done it on fucking purpose.
Mallory quickly slid off the bed, offering a quiet, “Sorry.”
Eyes on the ground, she stepped toward the door, but he didn’t move out of her way. She glanced up to meet his intimidating gaze.
“I want to tell you a story, Mallory.” She barely held back a shiver, barely stopped herself from stepping back. He started off eloquently, “Once upon a time, there was a troubled young prince. He was confused and hurting the one closest to him.” His expression was glazed with reminisce. “One day, a beautiful princess with a golden crown rescued him from his situation… from himself. He never saw her again.” He broke through the fog, ice blue eyes piercing through her. He leaned forward, bringing his body uncomfortably close to hers. She could feel the waves of heat roll off him. “Until now.”
She stuttered, heart fluttering in her chest, “I- what are you talking about?” Under no circumstance could she reveal the truth. The unintended consequences could unravel everything. “I need to see Madison. She brought me to the wrong room. She was supposed to take me to mine.”
He leaned in until he was mere inches away to examine her more closely. “How old are you, exactly?”
Mallory moved to push past him, but he grabbed hold of her arm, yanking her back. The lightbulbs flashed and exploded in dramatic protest as the room shook. He released her in his surprise. He obviously hadn’t expected that demonstration in power. Michael watched her escape with enraptured interest.
