“I got a call from the DJ today.”

“Who?” Deeks was snoozing on the couch. It was a long day.

“The DJ, the wedding.”

“Malibu Mix-a-Lot. Because Sir Mix-a-Lot was so 25-years ago.”

“Dave, the DJ, said we didn’t give him a first dance song, a post-dinner dance song and a wrap up song for the night. He sent a list.”

“We have homework?” Deeks asked as Kensi handed her five pages of songs e-mailed by the DJ. "Today was a long day. I don't need homework."

“Three songs. Not homework.”

Sitting up, Deeks said “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is probably a hard no.”

“Deeks.”

“What,” Deeks shrugged as he looked at what seemed to be an endless list of songs. “I want to know what you’re thinking,” Deeks pushed the decision to Kensi.

“I don’t want a song I’ve heard at every wedding I’ve gone to in the last decade.”

“Well, that narrows things down.”

“No The Luckiest. No Always and Forever. No All of Me. No My Heart Will Go On.”

“You love "Titanic", why no My Heart Will Go On?”

“How did things end for Jack and Rose?”

“Not well for Jack but Rose got a big hunk of jewelry and died in her late 90’s.”

“I’d have made room for you on the door.”

“That’s true love,” Deeks flipped through the list. “There are way too many songs.”

“Dave the DJ is willing to find anything we need.”

“Well I need something easy to dance to.”

“We’ve got lessons for the four Saturday mornings before the wedding. Actually having the music would be helpful.”

“Can’t wait,” Deeks feigned enthusiasm. “Oh, The Way You Look Tonight. Frank Sinatra. Cool, good song.”

Kensi shook her head. “In “My Best Friend’s Wedding” - absolutely not.”

Deeks shook his head. “That was Tony Bennett.”

“Same thing.”

“Don’t say that in front of Bertie. Big Sinatra fan. Oh, I got it. Stevie Wonder – For Once In My Life. Good beat, I won’t make an idiot of myself and it’s Stevie Wonder.”

“On the list.”

“We’re making a list.”

“We need three songs. We’re making a list,” Kensi scribbled on a pad. “How do you feel about another old song?”

“How old?”

“Well, you took me to “Jersey Boys” old.”

“Go on.”

“Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.”

“I’m in.”

“You’re not just saying that to get this done.”

“I took you to “Jersey Boys” and I liked it. Liked the music. You even liked it. I’m in.”

“First dance song or after dinner song.”

“After dinner song. Let’s give them some real music before the Malibu Mix-a-Lot…”

“…Dave.”

“Malibu Mix-a-Lot plays all your techno music,” Deeks said lifting an eyebrow as he looked at the list. Whistling for Monty, “I’m taking Monty for his pre-bed walk. We’ve got the first dance and post-dinner songs.”

“We have to finish this.”

Picking up her pencil, Deeks circled a song and wrote something on his list. Monty made his way to do the door. “We’re good, Kens, we’re good.” He handed her the list of songs.

Kensi watched him leave with Monty before she looked at his choice. She smiled when she saw his “Sending them home with this” written next to his a circled song – Best Day of My Life by American Authors.

She would definitely make room for him on the door.

okay, I'm going to count distinct chapters of the advent calendar for this. in no particular order and subject to mood change:

When You're Loving Me (That's When I'm Loving You) (NCIS: LA) - I cited this as a contender for my favourite fic I've written a couple months ago, so obviously it has to go in the year's. what can i say, fake dating is an immaculate trope, and this also all came onto the page very easily which is always vaguely miraculous.

there you go pulling me right back in (H50) - sometimes vague prompts i've had down for ages write up as something that's. fine, but a bit clunky, and I just have to move on bc it's the advent calendar and a new fic each day. sometimes I start writing them and they spring into life with joyous delight. or in this case, uninhibited grumpiness and love.

singing yesterday's songs wishing i could be with you tonight (MASH) - the one that didn't make it into the top 5 kudosed, I assume partially due to being locked and partially due to being a serious tone, not terribly shippy, and Peg POV. But I've had some version or other of it for a long time, it's one of those stories I'm genuinely proud of, and I was glad to finally post it.

Totally Normal (Due South) - it's fun. it was fun. I was slightly nervous about it, because the only prior Due South thing I'd written was Dief POV and this was Fraser and RayK POV and the first time writing either of those, but it turns out watching + liveblogging four and two seasons, respectively, of a character in four months is. enough to cement their voices in my head. it was unexpectedly easy and also. fun.

Festive Spice (MUNCLE) - i just think it epitomises the advent calendar. in the words of coolbreezemage, 'yesssss bake cakes and kiss your partner'.

Finding A Cure In You (S&H) - this doesn't make it to the above list due to the fact that I haven't actually managed to reread it since I posted it. but just for the amount of time I spent with it, how different it is to my usual M.O. of writing, and the weird way I wrote it (entirely in the notes app, with almost zero rereading while writing), I have to somehow mention it.

A Thousand Words / To Be Spared (Good Omens) - I don't know if they're favourite but I do think they're good. and the format of to be spared was pleasingly experimental and i think it worked.

vague thoughts: i'd like to write a full-length (for whatever value of that. the AC ones actually were full-length, especially the second one, but what I really mean is AC-independent) due south fic. they're very weird and i enjoyed writing them, and I'd also like to write something with RayV in it. maybe if I successfully inspired @itwoodbeprefect to write new ds, when she does that it will inspire me to write something, and we can set up a ping-pong game. no, wait, that's mixing fandoms.

I expect more MUNCLE fic. this one's already 3.5k and rocketing along, and i'm only two-thirds of the way through season 1. what form that will take i don't know at this stage but we'll see.

....i was discussing the vague concept of house/h50 crossover fic with squares literally yesterday and on the one hand I haven't written a crossover since 2014 and also don't want that to be my legacy, but on the other hand i think there is at least a 50% chance it's going to stick in the back of my brain and keep niggling.

I can see Lucy saying it first, but I think I want Tim to say it first.

Part of me wants it to be during a sequence when they have something else going on with whatever plot they're working on, but one of them blurts it out for whatever reason. Kinda like Deeks and Kensi's first kiss (that isn't undercover, of course) on NCIS: LA.

But, then, I also really like the idea of it happening in a really quiet, personal scene where one of them just says it like it is second nature because it just feels right.

I'm (Kinda) Back!!

Hey guys!! Don't know if anyone I knew is still around here, as I literally haven't posted anything at all in two years (and probably longer for actual fic/gifs). I've been lurking occasionally, and clearing bots out of my followers, but other than that, I know I've been MIA.

But, late to the party though I am, I did hear about the recent canceling of NCIS:LA (booo!!) and am finally, after five years, catching up from where I left off**. I doubt I'll make it all the way to the current episodes by the time things end (I'm just finishing Season 9 now) but it feels good to see those familiar faces on my screen again...it's really like picking up with old friends, in a way.

I'll try to be around a bit more here and there as the final season unfolds (though with two jobs and a hectic schedule, I make no promises), but it's good to be back here too...as I try to remember/relearn how this hellsite we all love functions.

So...hey there, I've missed you all!!

**I stopped watching five years ago, not because of any issue with the show, but because I moved and my life circumstances completely shifted. Writing time went down to about zero percent and while I still longed to watch the show in a way that would let me really delve deep and analyze it so that I could then fic it, I just didn't have the time...so I kept DVR-ing it, thinking "I'll get back to it, I will, I will..." and life kept carrying on, and then my DVR deleted a couple of the seasons, and I nearly gave up...but I've been re-recording all reruns I can find of Seasons 9-13 and slooowly getting caught up. I'm not waiting to watch it in that deep dive way anymore....though that doesn't mean I won't fic it...but again, no promises. I'm just trying to get caught up because I missed enjoying the show for the show's sake.

NCIS: Los Angeles 14×21 “New Beginnings, Part 2” follows the cliffhanger from last week and is about as perfect a series finale as a procedural can deliver. There are, of course, some unavoidable loose ends for a show that wasn’t meant to end with Season 14, but the show does its best to provide not just closure, but happiness – for the characters, for their journeys, and for the viewers who have been around for this entire time.

I just want to say that this is 100% not a slam. I watch Riverdale, I have no room to judge anyone's TV choices. But since NCIS LA is ending, I seriously have to ask: does anyone watch weekly? The tag is very light and it contains mostly the same people. Does this show have any significant fanbase?

Was trying to decide if it’s before or after the wedding. Went with after.

As he lays his jacket across the dining room chair, the sound of Kensi’s heels clacking getting closer and closer pulls his attention to the hall doorway. She’s standing there, beautiful as ever but as his eyes trace her body from head to toe for the thousandth time today, his attention zeros in on her glassy mismatched orbs, and worry sets in.

“Hey, you feeling any better?”

Nervously biting her bottom lip, she keeps her eyes trained on his. “Ye-yeah, I am actually.”

“Hey.” Not buying her words, he closes the distance between them, his arms finding their way around her waist. “What’s wrong?”

She lets out a soft laugh, shaking her head as tears being to fall from her eyes. “Nothing. Nothing’s wrong.”

“What’s with these tears then? Was it the wedding? Do you wanna marry your gorgeous husband again or something?”

“Maybe later.”

“I’ll hold you to that.”

“Good.”

“What’s going on then?”

“I’ve been feeling crappy the past few weeks and just assumed it was because of the end of the school year and work and Mr. Romance keeping me up almost every night.”

“Gotta keep my ladybird happy.”

A small smile curls at her lips before leaning in to meet his. “You’ve been keeping her very happy so much so that it’s come with a little gift.”

“Gift?”

“Uh-huh.”

His brow furrows trying to put the pieces together but honestly, she’s gonna have to spell it out for him cuz the thin material of her dress is making Mr. Romance realize how little material is actually between them. “I’m not gonna lie, baby. I’m a little lost here.”

“You.”

He nods.

“And I.”

He nods again, hanging on her every word.

“We each have special things in our bodies that when mixed together creates something.”

Then it clicks. “You mean…”

Bringing her hands up from their resting spot on his chest, she cradles his head, making sure he understands what she’s about to say. “We’re having a baby.”

He feels his jaw drop before his mind fully processes what his wife just said. “I’m pregnant?”

“No, you dork, I am.”

There’s a tightness in his throat as he asks the question he’s not sure he actually wants to know the answer to. “Really?”

Leaning in, Kensi closes the distance between them once more, pressing her lips to his. “Really, really.”
