2023 Revisited | Leighton DaCosta, San Diego Photographer
HAPPY 123123 DAY!
2023 was an amazing year in San Diego. There were way more ups than downs and I am blessed to see another year! Thank you to all the clients and friends, and clients who became friends, and friends who became clients.
We had a blast in Jamaica during Carnival, LA Fashion Week work with BVFW was phenomenal, we went chasing waterfalls and bars in the middle of the ocean to capture some travel portraiture.
The portraits this year were widely varied, from influencer headshots, acting headshots, costume photography for international beauty queens, and beauty shots for music artists, along with some commercial work as well.
Let’s not forget the weddings in Vegas or the trips to the desert!
Cheers to the completion of 2023 and a new start in 2024. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AS ALWAYS!
LD
And here’s some quick shots from BVFW LA…

So this has been something that's been asked for a few times, so after a long times work, here we have it! A hypothetical voice cast for the characters of Autobot Academy. If there's a character you don't see, it's as we don't want to rush figuring out a character. We may update this list in the future, however it'll be in our own time, so we won't be taking any questions about specific missing characters. And hey, if you have your own voices that don't match up with these, then feel free to stick with that!

The playlist for Black Water, Take Over
Here With Me - Susie Suh, Robot Koch
“Calling your name in the midnight hour Reaching for you from the endless dream So many miles between us now But you are always here with me”
Fjord might be away again, but he is still with her in her heart and mind.
Black Water - Of Monsters and Men
“Swallowed by a vicious, vengeful sea  Darker days are raining over me  In the deepest depths I lost myself  I see myself through someone else”
Uk’otoa. Avantika. The life of a pirate and then their King. The darkness of the ocean swallowed him up and made him who and what he is.
Don’t Forget About Me - CLOVES
“Where ever you've gone? How, how, how? I just need to know That you won't forget about me”
Where is he? Surely Fjord hasn’t forgotten about her?
 Hurts Like Hell - Fleurie
“I don't want them to know the secrets I don't want them to know the way I loved you I don't think they'd understand it, no I don't think they would accept me, no”
They suspect something. Jester isn’t ready to tell her friends that she loved Fjord once, years and years ago, before he changed.
In My Head - Peter Manos
“Uhh-uh-uh, you're in my head And I keep on forgettin' Uhh-uh-uh, you're here instead And it seems never ending”
Jester struggles to separate the Fjord she knew from the Fjord that is in front of her.
Not Just a Girl - She Wants Revenge
“And if you'll be mine aaah I'll never do you any harm aaah I'll give you the Moon and stars And nothing's gonna keep us apart”
Fjord is willing to provide Jester with anything to make her his own.
 War of Hearts - Ruelle
“Stay with me A little longer I will wait for you Shadows creep And want grows stronger Deeper than the truth”
Jester knows she shouldn’t love him, not like this, not when this Fjord is so different from her Fjord. But there is still a semblance of the boy she once knew in there.
 Oceans - Seafret
“It feels like there's oceans Between you and me once again We hide our emotions Under the surface and try to pretend But it feels like there's oceans Between you and me”
There’s something between them, but they both try to suppress it.
I’d Let You Win - PORTS
“Been walking streets Been filling sheets In fantasy  Oh oh, I'd let you in I'd let you win my heart again”
She’s won his heart before. Fjord is willing to let her do so again.
Nitesky (ft John LaMonica) - Robot Koch, John LaMonica
“No one knows what it's like You and me, you and I Underneath the night sky You and me, you and I”
No one understands. Not Avantika, not Sabien, nor the rest of the Mighty Nein
Find My Way Back - Eric Arjes
“These weary eyes will never rest Until they look in yours again I'm on my way now I still believe”
Jester begins to think there’s a way to save Fjord. She will not give up.
Where’s My Love (Alternate Version) - SYML
“Cold sheets, oh, where’s my love? I am searching high, I’m searching low in the night”
Fjord returns to Darktow. Jester is gone, so are her friends, but none can tell him where or when. He doesn’t know whether to be scared or pissed off.
There’s Something Dark - Dustin Kensrue
“There's something haunting, oh my love There's nothing good I'm thinking of Still I'm gilded and groomed Gliding into the room Saying such bold and beautiful things There's something dark inside of me”
Suspicion. Realisation. Uk’otoa is evil, and so is he.
Waves - Dean Lewis
“Through the wind Down to the place we used to lay when we were kids Memories of a stolen place Caught in the silence An echo lost in space”
Memories returning. A hidden place for him and Jester to talk in peace, with no disruptions.
I’ll be Good - Jaymes Young
His memories are back; Vandren, Port Damali and Nicodranas, the orphanage. Jester.
“I’ve been cold, I’ve been merciless, But the blood on my hands scares me to death, Maybe I’m waking up”
What have I become?! All those lives ruined or lost because of me. I have to make amends.
Gallows - Katie Garfield
“Let it all come crashing down Burn the castle to the ground Hang the lies, no disguise It's our time Let it all come down”
It’s time to confront Sabien and Avantika

San Diego Unified School board to vote on requiring vaccinations for eligible students and staff
The San Diego Unified Board of Education will vote on the topic of making vaccinations mandatory for all eligible students and district employees on Tuesday during a scheduled meeting.
If passed, the district would join the school districts in Los Angeles and Oakland which have already implemented a vaccine mandate.
According to an email sent out by the district to families, "about 65% of all eligible students and 80% of eligible employees are already at least partially vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, according to the San Diego County Immunization Registry."
The board is recommending that all school employees, partners, contractors and other adults that work in direct contact with students and employees on school properties to be fully vaccinated before December 20, 2021.
The board is also recommending in their Vaccination Roadmap, "a staggered approach to have all eligible students vaccinated against COVID-19, as a condition of attending in-person learning." The specific timeline for age groups will be aligned with full FDA approval. The district will still require mandatory testing for all unvaccinated students until their age group receives full FDA approval.
"As a pediatrician, I won't talk about the ethics of mandating vaccines, but I will talk to you about the outcome of having that many more people vaccinated, and that outcome is excellent," said Dr. Howard Taras, a pediatrician consultant to the San Diego Unified School District who said he supports the idea of what LAUSD was doing after the announcement was made in early September.
"Those who are not vaccinated are so much more susceptible to this," said Taras.
Los Angeles Unified has about 600,000 students and is the largest public school district in California. San Diego Unified has about 120,000 students. *Reposted article from CBS 8 by CBS News 8 Team and LaMonica Peters, September 27, 2021

New Characters for DCCW, 2018-2019
A compilation of the known castings (regular and recurring) for this season, including recurring cast members from last season who got upgraded. This doesn’t include rumoured roles that haven’t been cast yet. If it doesn’t say they’re recurring, they’re probably a regular.
Flash
Danielle Nicolet (Cecile), Jessica Parker Kennedy (Nora), and Hartley Sawyer (Ralph) have been promoted to series regulars.
Jul 21- Chris Klein (American Pie) as Cicada, a grizzled, blue-collar everyman whose family has been torn apart by metahumans. Cicada now seeks to exterminate the epidemic — one metahuman at a time.
Aug 9- Kiana Madeira (Sacred Lies) as Spencer Young, aka Spin, a young aspiring social media influencer who seizes the opportunity to make herself famous when she discovers there is a new hero in Central City. This recurring character will be introduced in episode #504, and is a genderbend of the existing DC comics character, Auerbach.
Aug 24- Troy James (America’s Got Talent) will guest star as Peter Merkel, aka the contortionist supervillain Rag Doll. Not pictured below.
Tumblr media
 Supergirl
Jesse Rath (Brainy) has been promoted to series regular.
Jul 17- Sam Witwer (Being Human) as Agent Liberty (Ben Lockwood), the charismatic — and, of course, deeply evil — founder of Children of Liberty, an anti-alien hate group dedicated to establishing humans as the superior race. He conceals his vile nature in the guise of a family man, making it all the more difficult to take him down.
Jul 21- Nicole Maines (Royal Pains) as Nia Nal, the newest addition to the CatCo reporting team. A soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others, Nia’s journey this season means fulfilling her destiny as the superhero Dreamer.
April Parker Jones (Jericho) as Colonel Haley, a hardline career military woman who lives and dies by the orders of her commanding officers. Dedicated to her country, she always acts in its best interest — even if it’s not her own.
David Ajala (Dr. Who) as Manchester Black, the type of guy who brings a knife to a gunfight and still walks away the winner. With a dark past, he easily deflects the brutality of his mission with his charm and sense of humor. This is a recurring role.
Jul 27- Rhona Mitra (The Last Ship) as Mercy Graves, an ex-CADMUS agent who has always believed in human exceptionalism. But with both Lex and Lillian in prison, Mercy is stepping out of the Luthor shadow and running her own show. With her biting wit and lethal brawn, Mercy steadily becomes a key figure in National City’s growing “human-first” movement. This is a recurring role.
Robert Baker (Grey’s Anatomy) as Otis Graves, is Mercy’s brother and defacto right hand man. What he lacks in brains, he makes up for with his savant-like abilities to assassinate aliens. This is a recurring role.
Aug 21- Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5) as Vice President Baker. Adept and politically minded, VP Baker makes for an unlikely leader, but steps up in a big way when his country needs him most. This is a recurring role.
on Aug 1 it was announced that Brent Spiner (Star Trek: TNG) would play the role; however it was later recast due to family issues that conflicted with production (it is Spiner featured in the picture below)
Aug 24- Anthony Knoechny (Almost Human) will recur, starting with the season premiere, as Agent Jensen, a DEO agent recruited by Alex who struggles to find his footing at the agency. (not pictured below)
Sep 14- Xander Berkeley (Nikita) will guest star as Peter Lockwood, the father of Ben, a family man who’s dedicated his life to providing for people. (not pictured below)
Sep 17- Sarah Smyth (50/50) will recur as Lydia Lockwood, the wife of Ben. (not pictured below)
Tumblr media
 Arrow
Colton Haynes (Roy) has returned as a series regular.
Kirk Acevedo (Dragon) was promoted to a series regular after recurring in season 6. News released Oct 11. (not pictured below)
Jul 21- Holly Elissa (Whistler) as Red Dart, a ruthless and precise killer.
Michael Jonsson (Van Helsing) as Kodiak, a beast of a man with brute force.
Miranda Edwards (The Magicians) as Silencer, a master of stealth.
Sep 21- Katherine McNamara (Shadowhunters) as Maya, a scrappy street fighter and thief from Star City, likened to “Buffy the Superhero Slayer.” Possibly inspired, like Thea, by Mia Dearden/ Speedy. (not pictured below)
Tumblr media
 Legends of Tomorrow
Matt Ryan (Constantine), Jes Macallan (Ava), and Courtney Ford (Nora Darhk) have been promoted to regulars.
Jul 21- Ramona Young (Santa Clarita Diet) as Alaska Yu, a typical twentysomething easily swept up by romantic notions and fantasy novels, and she’s something of an expert in the world of the magical creatures that the Legends encounter in Season 4. In the company of the Legends, she soon learns to get her head out of the clouds to become a kickass superhero.
Tom Wilson (The Informant) as Nate’s father, Hank Heywood. With a lifetime in the military and Department of Defense, Hank is part of a long line of Heywoods to serve the country. Charming and charismatic, he’s left big shoes for Nate to fill — and it doesn’t help that Nate can’t tell him he’s secretly a Legend! This is a recurring role.
Sep 22- Darien Martin (The 100) will recur as a “wolf creature.” (not pictured below)
Tumblr media
 Black Lightning
Jordan Calloway (Khalil/ Painkiller) has been promoted to a regular.
Sep 5- Sofia Vassilieva (Medium) will appear as Looker.
Sep 21- Kearran Giovanni (Major Crimes) will recur as Cutter, a smart, proud, tough and beautiful woman more than able to best a man in combat — a mercenary trained by British intelligence.
Oct 4- Erika Alexander (Get Out) will guest star as Perenna, a therapist with telepathic abilities that works with Jennifer to help her handle her manifesting powers and the complex bundle of emotions they stir up.
Tumblr media
The Crossover: Elseworlds
Aug 7- Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) as Kate Kane/Batwoman.
Sep 14- Elizabeth Tulloch (Grimm) as intrepid journalist Lois Lane. Tyler Hoechlin will reprise his role as Clark Kent/ Superman alongside her.
Sep 14- Cassandra Jean Amell (One Tree Hill) as supervillain Nora Fries.
Sep 20- Jeremy Davies (American Gods) as the nefarious Dr. John Deegan, presumed by many to be based on Doctor Destiny.
Sep 26- LaMonica Garrett (The Last Ship) as The Monitor.

So the retired NYPD Firearms Examiner Rob Lamonica's 12lb trigger pull is dead now? I wonder what this does to his testimony in the PO. Peter Liang trial? If 5lbs is now good, why wasn't 11.5 lbs good back in 2014? Just saying. https://www.instagram.com/p/B9rmGo0JBiq/?igshid=40mtjt8qukbz

8 books on the Circular Economy you can't miss
Tumblr media
Introduction to books on the Circular Economy
Often, after events, presentations or pitches people will ask me for recommendations on which books to read to build an understanding of the Circular Economy. I have to admit: it’s not easy to break into a field that is as hotly debated and analysed as this one. A fresh topic like the Circular Economy doesn’t have the blessing of a large or diverse library, though the Web is full of free PDFs with all sorts of interesting perspectives and ideas (One of the many reports made by Confindustria here).
But in the last two years, the subject found its feet. Publishing books that summaries and give the reader a good understanding of the entire concept of the Circular Economy, a concept that is at the heart of the battle against: Climate change.
In this article I’ll go over 8 books that explain the Circular Economy in the simplest yet extensive way possible: from an in depth explanation of one part of the Circular Economy to broader more holistic explanations.
1. What is the Circular Economy
The first book on this list is by Emanuele Bompan, journalist, public speaker, and manager of the incredible magazine renewable materials (If you don’t know it definitely take a look, but will get to that later…).So why is this book at the top o the list? I haven’t organized this list in any particular order but I think that this book is the perfect place to start. It’s where I started my journey through the Circular Economy and it’s the book I read over and over again whilst looking for ideas or whilst I was looking for examples of sustainable businesses.
I’ve met Emanuele whilst I was at Ecomondo this year and it was super interesting getting to compare our ideas. Emanuele is without a doubt an expert on the Circular Economy and there are many important titles with his signature on them. It would be an understatement to say that the pages of the book race by: it is an absolute goldmine of information explained in a streamlined and simple way but that still manages to go into great depth. So go grab it!
2. The Circular Economy. From Waste to Resource – Peter Lacy, Jakob Rutqvist and Beatrice Lamonica
The second book that I want to bring your attention to is the milestone from which many great discussions have stemmed. The book written by Peter Lacy, Rutqvist and Lamonica is extremely detailed and is full of good examples of the benefits of the Circular Economy.
The book was highly recommended by Accenture, an important consulting company for strategic management technology and outsourcing, and the home of the three authors. The book defines the 5 famous principles that characterize a business that is a part of the Circular Economy. It has numerous in depth examples that help understand the competitive benefits of the Circular Economy. Without a doubt a book that shouldn’t be missed.
3. A world without trash? A trip through the Circular Economy – A. Massarutto
I’ll admit I only just read this book a few weeks ago, but I think it it really is an interesting read. The research Antonio Massarutto, economist, and professor at the University of Bocconi, explains throughout the book is masterful. It goes into great detail especially on the subject of trash, where the author criticizes our current waste collection and disposal system as well as rethinking the whole thing. Massarutto, like other important authors, he concentrates on what happens to things at the end of their life-cycle, shining a light on what many are starting to realize is a serious problem: Trash. A concept that doesn’t exist in nature where “nothing is made and nothing is destroyed”: A closed loop for both materials and energy. I recommend this to anyone who is interested in the problem trash provides and the solution a Circular Economy would provide.
4. Fresh materials in the Circular Economy – A. Pellizzari, E. Genovesi
This entry is more than just one book, this is a whole series of fantastic books. The photo above is just the first of the monumental books on the Circular Economy and the environment published by Ed. Ambiente. (The most active Italian publisher currently on the market with a whole portfolio of interesting reads that is growing every day). Besides “New materials” there is also “Fashion”, “Automotive” and “Packaging”.
Every book covers a specific theme and tells the story of one industry and how to innovate on production and design of products currently in use. Which leads to discussion about bio-based products, which use natural materials that work in the natural environmental cycle or that can be efficiently recycled (End-of-waste).
The volume I chose as an example shows how important the sustainable movement is by using a number of case studies which aren’t necessarily the solution to the problems that many businesses have but they show the obvious advantages of adopting a circular approach for the production of products and services.
It all starts with the use of different materials and the prevention of waste. Innovation starts here. Good Luck!
5. Designing for the Circular Economy – M. Charter
The first book that puts design and Circular Economy together. Applied Eco-design, as told by prof. Martin Charter, director of the centre for sustainable design at the University for Creative Arts (UCA) in England. Dealing with the up-stream of Circular Economics.
Professor Charter covers the topics of design and creativity, in the context of sustainability by using multiple concrete references. Using design and production as a form of prevention to eliminate the problem of disposal is the pioneering strategy in this sector of the Circular Economy (remember the regulations on Eco-design in Europe).
A book that manages to speak to industries, businesses and students that wish to learn more about the topic, and it is for this reason that I recommend you read this book whether as a student or a professional. Because Circular Economics is creativity it is design and above all it is thinking outside the box.
6. Circular Economics for everyone – W. R. Stahel
I can confirm: anyone can read this book. I recommend this book because it shows perfectly the moment the concept of Circular Economics came into existence. like many researchers or public figures might say: The circular Economy is at the beginning of it’s life and so it still needs to find the space it occupies and the concepts it embodies because it is much much more than just recycling which is what most of the general public associate it with.
Stahel works to make each of the fundamental parts of the Circular Economy as simple to understand as possible, making it a very easy to read the whole book, and it was made for just this reason. The author was the man in the seventies to imagine an economy where a products life-cycle is a closed loop, and he analyses the impact it would have on competition on the environment and on society. In the book Stahel, architect and visiting professor of the faculty of engineering and science at the Università of Surrey, in the UK. It explains the steps you have to take to go from small isolated communities of the Circular Economy to a global scale. The revolution therefor has to tackle new problems and create Social and Financial value as well as Environmental value.
After his first book “Jobs for Tomorrow: The Potential for Substituting Manpower for Energy” (1976) that Stahel wrote with Geneviève Reday-Mulvey. Stahel returns to talk about his experiences on the topic to help spread the ideas of the Circular Economy
7. Green Branding: Tools, Advice and Strategies for Eco-sustainable Communication – L. Garosi
Don’t you see the link between marketing and the Circular Economy? That’s why the penultimate book I’m recommending is the perfect guide for a new kind of job: The Green Marketer. The guy that takes care of sustainable projects and how to market them. The book is a literal tutorial, as is the tradition of Daccovio the publishers. A guide to what a Green Marketer should and shouldn’t do and why the position of Green Marketer should exist. Garosi manages to paint a perfect picture of the Green Jobs situation, as well as explore each of the different arguments, thanks to specialists from each of the green industries. From events, to management of social media the book covers everything that anybody who wishes to become a Green manager needs.
8. Renewable materials – Ed. Ambiente
Your right it isn’t a book, but this last recommendation is a real gem I promise. Renewable Materials is the first and (I think) only magazine that covers each of the different pieces of the Circular Economy individually and in great depth. With monthly issues Ed. Ambiente’s magazine goes beyond the national level and conducts research, and innovates on an international level. As well as the interesting ideas of showcased in “Renewable Materials”: there are in depth analyses on each of the fundamentals of the Circular Economy. Written by important authors or researchers as well as the manager Emanuele Bompan who also wrote the first book on this list: “Che cosa è l’Economia Circolare“.
