wait where do you live? (i ask cause im og from the yukon in northern canada so saw a lot of northern lights growing up as well)
northern norway! bodø specifically, which is definitely doxxing myself but i've done it many times before on here so i don't really mind. according to google yukon's at a latitude (or degree north as we say in norway) of about 64° and bodø is at about 67-68° so yeah we're very close! we probably see about the same amount of northern lights i assume?
the arctic circle is at 66.33°, just south of me, idk if that makes a difference? probably not too much. i know that like north of that is where the sun doesn't set during the summer, and since i'm just north of it the sun doesn't set here for most of the main summer months and barely sets right now (like it doesn't get dark but Technically it's Barely below the horizon). and during the winter we have a few hours of sunlight still a day whereas further north it's fully dark for months. i assume since you're just south of the arctic circle you don't have these fucked up phenomenons lmao but also does it affect you at all? like does the sun set earlier/later for you ever than it would other places do you think
oh also i say all this but idk if google is right. is all of yukon south of the arctic circle? cause it only gives me one degree north, i feel like it's long enough to maybe have different latitudes?

Beautiful Places In The World
➤ Grand Teton National Park is an American national park in northwestern Wyoming. At approximately 310,000 acres (1,300 km2), the park includes the major peaks of the 40-mile-long (64 km) Teton Range as well as most of the northern sections of the valley known as Jackson Hole. Grand Teton National Park is only 10 miles (16 km) south of Yellowstone National Park, to which it is connected by the National Park Service–managed John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway. Along with surrounding national forests, these three protected areas constitute the almost 18-million-acre (73,000-square-kilometer) Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the world's largest intact mid-latitude temperate ecosystems.

February 17, 2023 - Day 52
Dallmann Bay and Neumayer Channel, Antarctic
It was another pretty rough sea last night. The waves were coming from three different directions and if the troughs all met at the same time it made a large hole to drop into. We pulled into Dallmann Bay about eight am and it started to snow. I got a few shots of the scenery but the visibility was pretty poor for most of the morning. A lot of the crew had never seen snow before so they had a great time playing and making snowmen. There was a lot of wildlife. I saw humpback whales, fur seals, penguins and sea birds. It was hard to get a decent photo because of the snow and distance but I will post what I got. This place is at 64 deg South Latitude and it is in the third month of summer which would be like August in the Northern Hemisphere. Fairbanks, Alaska is at 62 deg North Latitude and it sure seems like this place is a lot colder than Fairbanks in the summer time.
In the afternoon it cleared up and we went through the Neumayer Channel and reached the Southern most point that we will be going which is 64deg45’ South. We are just at the upper part of the Antarctic and everything is covered with 60 feet of snow and ice.

Polar Opposites
71-10-21 and 64-89-?? Points on a compass have little meaning to most people. Schoolchildren learn about the north and south poles, that the earth is tilted on its axis as it travels around the sun, and that the globe is divided into latitude and longitude lines. Most come to know that the equator separates northern and southern hemispheres, and that the latitude lines defining Arctic and…

West Virginia's climate is characterized by distinct seasons and variations in temperature and precipitation across the state. Here's an overview of the climate in West Virginia:
Distinct Seasons: West Virginia experiences four distinct seasons of about equal length: spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each season brings its own weather patterns and temperature fluctuations.
Humid Continental Climate: The majority of West Virginia has a humid continental climate, characterized by warm to hot summers, cold winters, and moderate precipitation throughout the year. However, the eastern panhandle of the state experiences a marine modification, which can lead to slightly milder winters and cooler summers compared to the rest of the state.
Temperature: Mean annual temperatures vary across the state, reflecting differences in latitude and elevation. In the southern part of the state, mean annual temperatures are around 56°F (13°C), while in the north, temperatures average around 52°F (11°C). The most mountainous regions have lower temperatures, with averages around 48°F (9°C). January is typically the coldest month, with statewide averages around 33°F (1°C), while July is the warmest month, with averages around 73°F (23°C).
Growing Season: The growing season in West Virginia averages around 160 days but can range from 120 to 180 days, depending on location and elevation. This provides ample time for agricultural activities and plant growth.
Precipitation: Mean annual precipitation varies across the state, with mountainous areas receiving more than 60 inches (1,520 mm) annually, while areas east of the mountains receive around 35 inches (890 mm) due to a rain shadow effect. Snowfall accounts for about 8 percent of total precipitation, with seasonal averages ranging from less than 20 inches (510 mm) in the southwest to more than 64 inches (1,620 mm) in the eastern mountains.
Wind and Storm Tracks: West Virginia lies in the latitude zone of the westerly winds, resulting in most storm tracks, fronts, and wind directions coming from the northwest, west, or southwest. This can influence weather patterns and precipitation distribution across the state.
Overall, West Virginia's climate offers a diverse range of weather conditions throughout the year, influenced by its geographic location, elevation differences, and proximity to major weather systems.

The abundance of forests in West Virginia supports a diverse range of plant and animal species. Here's a look at the flora and fauna found in the state:
Flora:
Hardwoods: Forests in West Virginia are primarily composed of hardwoods, including species such as red and white oak, yellow poplar, sugar maple, red maple, hickory, beech, basswood, black cherry, and yellow birch. These hardwoods dominate the plateau forests and contribute to the state's lush vegetation.
Softwoods: Softwood species such as loblolly pine, shortleaf pine, white pine, spruce, and hemlock are found on mountain slopes, deep gorges, and other scattered areas. These coniferous trees add to the diversity of West Virginia's forests, especially in higher elevation regions.
Oak and Pine Woodlands: The eastern section of the state is predominantly characterized by oak and pine woodlands, which provide habitat for a variety of plant and animal species.
Other Species: Additional tree species found in West Virginia include sycamores, locusts, chestnuts, elms, and dogwoods, contributing to the state's rich flora.
Fauna:
Mammals: West Virginia is home to a variety of mammal species, including rabbits, squirrels, gray foxes, opossums, skunks, raccoons, groundhogs, and white-tailed deer. The population of white-tailed deer has been increasing in recent years, and black bears are also found in the high country.
Aquatic Life: The state's mountain streams and lake impoundments support a diverse array of fish species, including trout, bass, pikes, crappies, walleyes, and muskellunge. Improving water quality in larger rivers has led to an increase in populations of perch, bluegills, catfish, and other aquatic species.
