I arrived late in the ucc that's why I only caught the second and last speaker to speak but still, there's lot of lesson that I learned from the two speaker. I have learned from the second speaker that it is not really easy to make a startup or business because like the speaker said that your idea is not only yours or you are not the only one to have that idea. There's a million of us in the world and many of us may think that kind of ideas like ours.  All we have to do is work incredibly hard, new innovations, and consistency. And also, I have learned that we should start a business with a cause, that would be able to help our environment be preserved and a community to flourish. As for the third speaker I have learned that failure is a part of the process. Everyone of us failed in life not because we are losers but because it redirected us onto something more than we're expecting. I think without experiencing failure in life means we didn't learn something in life. Listening to this speaker inspires me to become an entrepreneur someday.
These words really remain in my mind after the lecture, "Failure is not the opposite of success but failure is the stepping stone to success" A powerful quote to end a good lecture.

What I have learned from the lecture series? In the span of 1:34:00 lecture I have learned many more about the subject GEE 16 (The Entrepreneurial Mind). In this blog I will share my key learnings from the different topics in the lecture series. These are the following:
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS & TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER Dr. Dumancas shared 3 outlines for this topic which are: Legal Basis; Intellectual Property Rights; Process of Technology Transfer. To connect it in this subject I have learned the importance of protecting our intellectual property for the reason to prevent plagiarism, avoid wasteful investment, to create and enhance identity. Protecting intellectual property is like owning a piece of land you have to regulate, evaluate, monetize, transfer, exclude others and take ownership. The first step in protecting your intellectual property is to file a basis, transform ideas into tangible products and to file patent for you to have an exclusive right to your product. In addition, i have discovered that there registered technologies commercialized by CMU which are made by faculties, that give students a better life and brighter future.
STARTUP ECOSYSTEM Mrs. Caballeda mentioned about the startup ecosystem which is the group of people workinh together to develop startups. I have learned that the startups need ecosystem to have a support, partners, community, connections, trends so that the business would have a strong foundation in the future. The way of its plan is not smooth but a challenging one, in order to achieve the plan the startups need the ecosystem.
STARTUP JOURNEY Ms. Gersava I am amazed and thankful upon hearing the journey of Ms. Doreen. As far as i remembered the name of their startup is Virtualahan which is a matchmaker. Its purpose is matching companies to People with Disabilities with a business model thats lifts people out of poverty. Nowadays, she said that majority of PWDs are one of the beggars to earn money and to live, because majority of the companies does not qualify PWDs to be their employees. However, the problem of the companies is that the struggle to fimd highly motivated and loyal employees. Now, the oppurtunity of the startup is that internet enables people to work anywhere, which is possible that PWDs will be hired. The impact formula of their startup is training plus employment plus community is equal to PWDs equipped with digital skills. This formula will surely have a positive outcome to the business world.
These things i have learned gives me motivation to be an ethical entrepreneur in the future. It makes me feel that i don't have enough knowledge about startups but when i listened to the lecture series i am filled with new informations that i can apply.

Communication Design - Week 10
This week during our lecture with Karen and Andy we looked at reasons and thinking behind design. And from this line of thinking we looked into design activism and the beginning of conceptualism. We looked at the idea that maybe it is the art system that contextualises the object and makes it art. I found this very fascinating especially as the art in the lecture got more and more bizarre, it left me thinking just cause we say it art can it really be so? So I did some further digging at look at the Tate website.
Conceptualism
According to the Tate Website conceptual art is art for which the idea behind the work is more important than the finished art object. Conceptualism emerged as an art movement in the 1960s and usually refers to art made from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s. Above I’ve picked three pieces of art from the conceptual art series at the Tate museum and will endeavour to learn a little bit more about each piece in the hope of understanding conceptual art further.
Soul City (Pyramid Of Oranges)
This sculpture was created by Roelof Louw in 1967. This work is made up entirely of fresh oranges. Initially the stack of oranges was made up of 5,800 oranges. However as viewers look at the stack they are invited to take an orange from the stack and look at how the shape changes form. According to Roelof Louw “By taking an orange, each person changes the molecular form of the stack of oranges, and participates in consuming its presence.”
Small White Pebble Circles
This was a piece created by Richard Long in 1987.  The pebbles made up five concentric rings of white on the floor. In the installation instructions that Long provides the museum with, he specifies the exact measurements and that all the pebbles should be distributed by hand. According to Long ‘the whole work should look balanced and circular’ . Richard Long had done a list of similar works like this and often described his work as where his human characteristics meet the natural forces and patterns of the world.  A really interesting quote he leads with in describing this piece is “There are millions of stones in the world, and when I make a sculpture, all I do is just take a few of those stones and bring them together and put them in a circle and show you ... I use stones because I like stones or because theyre easy to find, without being anything special, so common you can find them anywhere ... It’s enough to use stones as stones, for what they are. I’m a realist.’ (Quoted in Richard Long: Walking in Circles, p.45.) Honestly his process kind of leaves me questioning the value of conceptualism, especially when he labels the materials with such disregard.
One Minute Sculptures
This is a photograph from Erwin Wurm’s series One Minute Sculptures that he produced in 1988. The individual photographs feature images of people – anonymous participants, engaging in unconventional and physically challenging interactions with everyday objects. Just as it eludes to in the tittle the poses are held for one minute. This was definitely my favourite piece that I came across under the conceptualism genre because of the logic behind it. According to Erwin Wurn he states that from looking at these photographs both the view and the participant of the image are required to “momentarily suspend practical rationality in favour of the grotesque and the improbable”. I loved the humour the pieces evoked and it was a uncontrollable interactive piece for viewers’
Overall
After some further research I am definitely beginning to grow a deeper understanding and liking for conceptual art and visiting the Tate museum is something definitely something I’d like to do on my bucket list! I really enjoy the interactive pieces but still have some questions in regards to the pebbles.

THE ENTREPRENEURIAL MIND DISCUSSION
“A major reason why startup fail is because they design their initial product based on assumptions. They assume that people care enough about the problem to pay for a solution.” – Laura Holton
It’s been a while since we have our discussion on our Entrepreneurial class. One of some worth recalling information during our classroom discussion was when our instructor, Ma’am Rhea, introduced to us the term MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT (MVP). Basically, it is a beginning form of product in which Entrepreneurs furthermore develop and assess its potential by using their customers or users’ feedback. I was also amazed how some begin from a simple step which includes the Zappos in which Nick Swinmurn created a web site that offered the absolute best selection in shoes in terms of brands, styles, colors, sizes, and widths after recognizing the point of pain on not being able to find shoes on store you wanted. Ma’am Rhea gave us a simple example to visualize how it works. She presented to us how one should begin from a simple skateboard until it gradually develop into a car rather than slowly purchasing or acquiring some parts of the car. This simple explanation helped me understand that MVP launches a product with significant use in the early phases of a startup and then expanding functionality.
THE LECTURE SERIES
Last April 19, 2023, I attended the lecture series program facilitated by the Business Administration Department faculty at our University Convention Center which aims to give us, the students, an opportunity to hear insights and viewpoints from the invited lecture speaker from their various experiences on industry and academe.

LECTURE SERIES # 1: Intellectual Property Rights & Technology Transfer
Dr. Gamaleila A. Dumangcas
Tumblr media
“Intellectual Property is the oil of the 21st Century. All the richest men have made their money out of intellectual property.” – Mark Getty
Intellectual Property is the creation of our mind. This includes invention, literary and artistic works, symbols, names, images, and designs. Thus, it’s essential to secure protection on the intellectual property to be able to transform it into a more tangible product and to secure the ”first to file” basis. Its need for protection requires an attentive measure since having it was like also owning a land property, which demands a regulation, valuation, taking ownership, and monetizing transfer. Thereby, its vital to register first your intellectual property before disclosing it to prevent any competitors from copying your trademark, technology or product; and avid wasteful investment in research. That’s the reason why acquiring intellectual property rights, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secret, an important move since it’s protected in law that provides the creators a protection on their original works, inventions, or ideas. Furthermore, technology transfer is also an essential process which allow the knowledge developed at one organization to another, with a purpose of commercializing it to be able to manage distribution channels and identify potential markets.
LECTURE SERIES #2: Incubating Innovation: Exploring Start-Up Opportunities in the Philippines
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to listen throughout the said lecture since I had to process my clearance. However, my short participation in the lecture gained me a little background on how it works. This Business incubators provides a support  and resources on start-ups and someone who’s starting their business. I believe this program really help some start-ups at least good starting point of foundation, its like a toddler being assisted by their parent to their following steps in their early-stage.
LECTURE SERIES #3: RAISE
Ma'am Keren
Tumblr media
More than a lecture, the speaker had shown to us videos related to some start-up programs and seminars that occur in the Philippines, as well as her various experiences and seminars she attended. I was really eager to take some of notes on some of her videos she presented because I planned to watch and search on my way home.
Start-up is a company working to solve a problem where the solution is not obvious, and success is not guaranteed. She also shared her experience on how one of her business idea, Alima Home Healthcare for Every Juan − a booking app for nursing which aims to provide healthcare for rural area, had failed because of the pandemic. I was really amazed on her dedication and her ability to cope-up with the failure. I also love how she also said that “it all starts with the IDEA”. I wasn’t really fond on at least considering to be an entrepreneur in the future since my heart already settled for being a Nephrologist, however, learning that her course was actually BS Nursing, I was really amazed on this discovery. In which I realized that anyone could really become an entrepreneur and it will all start with the idea. Especially now where there are a lot programs that would support a new start-ups which includes the start-up grant fund, step up program, Philippine start-up challenge, and etc.

Blog #3: Lecture Series and BMC
The Central Mindanao University: GEE16 (The Entrepreneurial Mind) classes regularly hold the LECTURE SERIES PROGRAM, which aims to expose students to multiple critical elements of innovation and entrepreneurship by providing them with the unique opportunity to see and hear insights and viewpoints from diverse speakers from various industries. They introduced two amazing guest speakers to share their own experiences and even gave us tips on how to become successful entrepreneurs someday.
In the entire lecture, what really caught my attention was IP Awareness and how important is validation in terms of business. Transparency of the use of the unauthorized logo is really something that must be known by everybody because it could hold future penalties: Independent of the civil and administrative sanctions imposed by law, a criminal penalty of imprisonment ranging from two (2) years to five (5) years and a fine ranging from Fifty thousand pesos (P50,000) to Two hundred thousand pesos (P200,000) shall be imposed on any person found guilty of committing any of the acts mentioned in Section 155, Section 168, and Subsection 169.1 in RA 8293′′.
Validation in business is one of the keys that could lead you to success. Market validation is the process of determining whether your product is needed in your target market. Validating your business idea allows you to predict whether or not people will buy your product or service and whether or not your company will be profitable. Effective process validation makes a significant contribution to ensuring a high-quality product. The fundamental principle of quality assurance is that a product must be designed to fit its intended use. If there are no controls for validated equipment, no results or finished goods can be guaranteed to be consistent. The success of your planned business depends on the practicality or perspectives of your target market. During our BMC presentation, was really confused by the comments of the panelists about our target market because according to them, our business could benefit more if we only focus on the landlady/landlords and the CMU Housing but at the end of our final pitching, was told again by another panelist to stay with the original target market which is the students and landlords/landlady. This is why validation acts a huge role in business planning. Because with validation, you could get a hold and assurance of the plan you implemented.
