draft lottery opinions
im pretty sure any team that hasn't made the playoffs can win it but only the bottom 11 can pick first overall so let's go there
s tier:
sharks. obviously. they've suffered a lot over a long while and they deserve something good out of it. will macklin be The Answer? no. will he Help? yes. that teal is beautiful and he'd look charming in it! Let The Pacific Be A Nightmare To Visit Again
blue jackets. a little bit further along in their rebuild; primed to Actually Go Places with a bit of determination, a sacred child, and some luck and head office competence
a tier:
utah hc. only didn't put this in s tier because i'm sad as fuck about the yotes but they're basically on the precipice with a little bit of reworking of the dcore and another piece up front. logan cooley/macklin celebrini flagship yaoi of the late 2020s who says no
ducks. most of my ducks opinions are filtered through a lens of "jersey 2 ugly" TEE BEE AITCH... get some graphic design in there... those teal and purple thirds were excellent lean into that... also they're really trying something interesting with carlson and mactav and gauthier and mintyukov. like this is going somewhere. mack might make it scary.
b tier:
sens. i think a relatively competent goalie and a true 1c in mack could actually solve their problems and end their rebuild. like im serious if they win this they're actually a playoff team by the end of his elc. but also that will make tickets more expensive and they're the only team i can viably commute to :(
habs. probably won't improve the team substantially but it might create some interesting vibes
c tier:
kraken. this is a thing that could happen i suppose
sabres. actually no let's investigate let's consider. the youngest team in the nhl could get even younger, gain what may track to be a true 1c (im sorry. tage is not that girl), and in that vein get, like the sens, the final piece of the puzzle they need to make The Jump and finally exit their decade of darkness. only reason it's here is bc like they've already had 2 first overall picks in the last few years and frankly i think we need to torture The Blonde Man (rdahlin) a little more
flames. it would NOT make their organization understand what was going on more and it would NOT give them a positive or negative direction but it WOULD give nazem kadri and jonathan huberdeau a son to raise. so i don't hate it
d tier:
devils. hischier-hughes-celebrini as centre depth is simply Too Much and they certainly do not deserve it. i hope luke goes to the rangers
f tier:
blackhawks. i want connor bedard to be a hockeyblr top ten tragic figure already

Wow. Really great songs and videos that Maren released today. Please give it a watch! The article below is also a really good read. She’s so real for exposing the cracks in the facade of country music. Love this for her! Everyone go support Maren 🤍
Maren Morris calls her new two-track EP “The Bridge,” which is just one of several metaphors she deploys in imagining a path out of the world of country music in which she became a star.
On “The Tree,” the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter says she’s “done filling a cup with a hole in the bottom”; “Get the Hell Out of Here” opens with the admission that she “watered the garden but forgot to fill the well.”
It’s not that Morris, 33, has tired of twanging guitars or neatly cornered rhymes, both of which define the tunes that came out Friday, a decade after she moved to Nashville from her native Texas, first to write songs for established country acts such as Tim McGraw and later to sign a major-label record deal of her own. Rather, she says she’s leaving because of what she views as the country music industry’s unwillingness to honestly reckon with its history of racism and misogyny and to open its gates to more women and queer people and people of color.
“I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over,” she says of country music. “But it’s burning itself down without my help.”
The singer acknowledges that, as a white woman, she’s benefited from the system as it is. Yet Morris, who says, “Allyship begins with waking up from something really comfortable,” has been vocal in her criticisms onstage and on social media, where she tangled last year with country star Jason Aldean and his wife over young people seeking gender-affirming healthcare. The spat even made it to Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show, where the right-wing host described Morris as a “lunatic.”
“The Bridge,” which marks Morris’ move to Columbia Records from the label’s Nashville division, arrives accompanied by a music video for “The Tree” in which she strolls through an emptied-out small town as she hears “the sound of a new wind blowing.” A sign welcomes visitors to the place “from sunrise to sundown” — a reference, perhaps, to the threat of racist vigilantism many perceived in Aldean’s recent “Try That in a Small Town” video; other signs in front of boarded-up buildings read “GO WOKE GO BROKE” and “DON’T TREAD ON ME.”
Morris is currently at work on her next LP with prolific pop producer Jack Antonoff, with whom she recorded “Get the Hell Out of Here.”
Obviously, being one of the few women that had any success on country radio, everything you do is looked at under a microscope. You’re scrutinized more than your male peers, even when you’re doing well. So I’ve had to clear all of that out of my head this year and just write songs. A lot of the drama within the community, I’ve chosen to step outside out of it.
Did that drama — your feud with the Aldeans, let’s say — push you in that direction? Or were you headed that way from the beginning?
I’ve always been an asker of questions and a status quo challenger just by being a woman. So it wasn’t really even a choice. I didn’t think of myself as a political artist. I just wrote songs about real life through a lens of deep respect for my country heroes. But the further you get into the country music business, that’s when you start to see the cracks. And once you see it, you can’t un-see it. So you start doing everything you can with the little power you have to make things better.
That doesn’t make you popular. But I don’t think that biting the hand that fed you is a real thing. It’s kind of a fallacy at this point, with all this fear-mongering about getting Dixie Chick-ed and whatnot. Country music is a business, but it gets sold, particularly to young writers and artists who come up within it, as almost a god. It kind of feels like indoctrination. If you truly love this type of music and you start to see problems arise, it needs to be criticized. Anything this popular should be scrutinized if we want to see progress.
But I’ve kind of said everything I can say. I always thought I’d have to do middle fingers in the air jumping out of an airplane, but I’m trying to mature here and realize I can just walk away from the parts of this that no longer make me happy.
Does your leaving country music mean the libs have been owned?
I’m sure some people may think that. And I would say, “Feel free. Go ahead.” I don’t want to have an adversarial relationship to country music. I still find myself weirdly wanting to protect it. But it’s not a family member. That’s the f—ed-up part, is that I’m talking about it as if it’s a person, but it’s not. So it’s a lot of deep deconstructing that I’m still unraveling.
These songs are obviously the result of that — the aftermath of walking away from something that was really important to you and the betrayal that you felt very righteously. But also knowing there’s a thread of hope as you get to the other side. I hope it comes across that way because I truly was in a space of hope when I wrote the two songs, even though “Get the Hell Out of Here” is really heavy. It’s about disarming that trauma and saying, “I can’t bail water out of this sinking ship anymore. It’s so futile. I choose happiness.”
Whose career path do you admire in terms of the ability to move from one style to another?
Certainly Taylor Swift. She’s been such a great friend over the years and has been really helpful in ways she probably doesn’t even realize in conversations I’ve had with her about everything you and I have been talking about.
You performed a song with Swift at an Eras tour stop in Chicago. What did you think of the show?
It was so inspiring. Performing for 3½ hours, three days in a row — no one can do that but her. And it’s such a supportive crowd: 90% women and 10% gays and dads. I’ve never felt so safe at a live show before. No one’s hammered or puking in the aisles or getting into a fight or anything. It’s just so joyful. And the way she makes that huge stadium setting feel intimate is astounding to me. In Chicago, I started running down the catwalk toward her after I came out of the hydraulic lift. She said, “Take your time,” and I was like, “OK, good, because this thing’s a mile long.”

Call to Action For A Retraction: Lies in the Journal of Astronomy in Culture
Another Open Letter, this time to the Journal of Astronomy in Culture, formerly the Archaeoastronomy Journal. It contains some issues. Cut n paste the letter below the this address:
BE POLITE!
August 6, 2024
Professor Geraldo Aldana
Editor in Chief
Journal of Astronomy in Culture
Unsourced Claims In Archaeoastronomy Journal Vol XXII
Dear Professor Aldana,
I am writing to inform you of an issue I assume you are unaware of, namely the unsourced claims made by Professor John Hoopes in his article ‘Book Review - The End of Time: The Maya Mystery of 2012 and 2012: Science and Prophecy of the Ancient Maya’ which was presented in Vol XXII of your journal, which was released in 2011. On page 143, the following statement is made:
“The ‘2012 phenomenon’ makes much more sense in the context of astrology than astronomy, as becomes clear from the influence of Dane Rudhyar on New Age prophet and guru Jose’ Arguelles and on John Major Jenkins (who once worked as a professional astrologer).”
In the same column Hoopes wrote:
“His (Rudhyar’s) book ‘The Planetaization of Consciousness helped inspire the first Whole Earth Festival while ‘The Sun is Also a Star’ provided intellectual underpinnings for claims by Arguelles (for whom Rudhyar was a personal mentor) and Jenkins about Ancient Maya concerns with the movements of the sun relative to the Milky Way galaxy.”
Jenkins challenged the idea his work was informed by Rudhyar, and the statement that Jenkins once worked as a professional astrologer. Jenkins wrote to the then editor in chief, Doctor John Carlson, explaining these statements are incorrect, unsupported, and should be retracted. In Jenkins’ words:
“I am not a professional astrologer, never have been and never tried to work as one. An early book of mine ‘Tzolkin’ criticized pop/casual astrology. Hoopes’s intent to defame is evident in the (false) identification of me as a professional astrologer…”
To be clear, there is no question John Major Jenkins’ conclusions on the 2012 phenomenon did in fact qualify as astrology. However, his work on a ‘galactic alignment’ as he called it is based on precession of the equinoxes, an astronomical phenomenon, and is then interpreted through the lens of astrology. This is a subtle, but important distinction. I am sure you do not need informed of the origins of astronomy, and how painstaking observations mingled freely with outlandish cosmological concepts. Jenkins’ work on the astronomy, was astronomy. Hoopes failing to account for the difference in the observations and the cosmology is perhaps excusable, it is reasonable Hoopes applied too ‘broad a brush’ when covering Jenkins’ writings. However, the claim Jenkins worked as a professional astrologer is one that allows for no speculation, this is a factual claim. One that presumably could be supported with evidence. It is not, and it has been challenged. To this day, the claim Jenkins worked as a professional astrologer is unsourced, and remains in print. Jenkins made certain to complain loudly of this before he passed away, and many are aware of this issue.
That is where I hope you will have more wisdom than your predecessor. Please retract the unsupported claims, in particular the claims Jenkins worked as a professional astrologer. In the current social environment, there is no question the trustworthiness of science is more heavily questioned than it has been in decades, perhaps even a few centuries. Many reasons for this could be posited, but one thing is clear: Known falsehoods left in print is one of the most damning things to the public image of a scientist, field of study, or journal. It ‘proves’ the entity in question is untrustworthy. With this in mind, I put it to you there is nothing to be gained by erroneously claiming John Major Jenkins once worked as a professional astrologer, and so much to lose. That statement could be retracted without retracting the article Hoopes wrote, protecting the integrity of the Journal of Astronomy in Culture without ‘losing face’. As a matter of fact, I do believe this could help create a better image. The willingness to admit an error is, after all, an admirable quality. One heavily associated with the scientific method.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider these words.

MY GUIDE TO THE INCARNATIONS OF MALICE
Tumblr media
DEMON KING DEMISE
Greater-Scope Villain of the entire franchise who originated the curse known as Malice that ensured great evil would always be plaguing Hyrule and going after the reincarnations and descendants of the Hero and the Goddess, the greatest of such evils being those who’d be born and reborn as vessels for the demon god’s undying hatred.
Appeared only in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
Voiced in my head by Fred Tatasciore.
Tumblr media
GANONDORF PROTO (DEMON KING GANON)
First incarnation of Demise’s Malice and the first Gerudo king to be born with the name of Ganondorf. A warlord who sought to conquer Hyrule during the founding days of the kingdom. Coveted the power of the Zonai Secret Stones, swore false fealty to King Rauru only to murder his wife and steal her Secret Stone, embraced the Malice and transform himself into a Demon King who led dark legions in an effort to conquer Hyrule until he was mummified and sealed by Rauru.
As it was his malice that leaked through the seal, reached Warrior King Ganon and created Calamity Ganon, he ironically has ended up as the first Ganon AND the last Ganon simultaneously; the Alpha and the Omega. Appears in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom
Voiced in the English dub by Matthew Mercer.
Tumblr media
GANONDORF PRIME, THE GREAT KING OF EVIL
First reincarnation of the Malice, the OG Ganon who appeared in the most titles due to his timeline splintering into three divergeant paths.
Always starts off where we meet him in Ocarina of Time, but if exposed for his treachery while Link and Zelda are still children, his path is set towards Twilight Princess. If as the great King of Evil in the Bad Future, he kills Link and claims the whole Triforce, his path is set towards A Link To The Past, which itself is later followed by the Oracle games and A Link Between Worlds. But if Link is triumphant and Ganondorf is sealed into the Sacred Realm, his path is set towards The Wind Waker. He’s also appeared in Super Smash Bros. Voiced in my head by Tom Wyner (A Link To The Past, Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, and Oracle of Ages/Seasons), Steve Blum (Twilight Princess), Len Carlson (Agahnim in A Link To The Past), and Sam Ramey (Ocarina of Time 3D).
Tumblr media
GANON, PRINCE OF DARKNESS Second known Ganon reincarnation, born in a timeline many years after the original Ganondorf was killed for good in Twilight Princess. He only appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure.
Voiced in my head by Steve Blum.
Tumblr media
WARRIOR KING GANON/CALAMITY GANON
Third known Ganon reincarnation, born into realities that aren’t considered official canon to Nintendo’s timeline, yet his physical form seems to have been what Demon King Ganon’s malice latched onto in order to make Calamity Ganon out of, as seen in Age of Calamity.
Appears in Hyrule Warrirors, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and (kinda, sorta) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Voiced in my head by Jamieson Price.
Tumblr media
YUGA (YUGANON)
Lorule counterpart to Ganondorf who serves as the Big Bad of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. A far more narcissistic and self-obsessed character than Ganondorf ever was, and is effete and mincing whereas Ganondorf is masculine and no-nonsense, keeping with the idea that Lorule is like a distorted mirror of Hyrule. Most impressively, he hijacks Ganon rather than the other way around!
Voiced in my head by Michael McKean.
Tumblr media
DEMON KING MALADUS
Another incarnation of Demise’s Malice who appears as the Big Boss of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. He is never fully explained.
Tumblr media
GANONS WHO DON’T COUNT
Incarnations of the character appearing in The Legend of Zelda (1986 NES game), fan-made games, the CDI games, the 80s cartoon show, Cadence of Hyrule, and Animal Crossing.
Maybe this is blasphemy, but I personally do not think of the original NES game and its immediate oddball sequel, The Adventure of Link, as canonical to the rest of the series despite Nintendo’s insistence of shoving them neatly into a timeline. They stand out way too much as having no story in them aside from what’s All There In The Manual, and I’m supposed to believe that OG Ganon, in this timeline, was resurrected thrice over (Oracle games, A Link Between Worlds, and the original game) and THIS is how he gets done in once and for all? Nope, not having it. To me, the true final battle with Ganon in that timeline was the linked finale of the Oracle games, with Yuga’s later hijacking of his spirit being his final appearance and involvement.
As for the others - the fan-made games and CDI games are obviously non-canonical and their Ganons barely a thing like him, the cartoon version is a Skeletor-esque idiot who’s just a boar man for no real reason, Cadence of Hyrule’s take is okay but not part of the timeline and a major Adaptational Wimp, and Animal Crossing? C’mon, that character is just a silly blue pig pretending to be his idol.
Last thing to note - with the canonical Ganons, I love that they go the whole sliding scale of evil villainy, in appropriate chronological order. Demon King Ganon, like Demise, is a pure evil Complete Monster. King of Evil Ganon is a Classic Villain whose resume of dark deeds is particularly heinous across all his appearances. Prince of Darkness Ganon is a Classic Villain who is bog standard and generically evil rather than truly heinous. Warrior King Ganon is a tactically gifted and charismatic Magnificent Bastard with even some Noble Demon qualities to him, and then what Calamity Ganon devolves into is pure Generic Doomsday Villain (just like original NES Ganon always was). Truly one of the greatest villains in all of video gaming indeed.

Profiles in Villainy
The Big Boss
Brandon ‘The Big Boss’ Babel is Empire City's public enemy number one. He is the mastermind behind the entire C.R.O.O.K.S. organization (a syndicate made up of professional burglars, muggers, and thieves).   The Big Boss is a ruthless crime lord who rules the criminal underworld with an iron fist… quite literally in that a freak accident caused him to lose his left hand and it was replaced with a powerful, cybernetic prosthetic
Surprisingly fast and agile despite his portly physique, The Big Boss makes sure that no criminal caper goes on without him knowing about it and giving his approval.  He holds a particular animosity toward Baldwin ‘Bulletproof’ Vess, the federal agent and criminologist who founded the C.O.P.S. program.  Years ago, Baldwin sent Big Boss’ brother to prison thus creating a lifelong grudge.
Actor Len Carlson provided the voice for the Big Boss (doing his best Edward G. Robinson impression).  The villain first appeared in the debut episode of the C.O.P.S. animated series, airing on September 19th, 1988.

* * * * *
And so it begins . . . CNN treats Trump like an ordinary presidential candidate.
CNN will sponsor a “town hall” in New Hampshire next week at which Republican voters will have the opportunity to ask questions of Donald Trump. See HuffPost, CNN rolls out the red carpet for Trump. Per HuffPo,
The event, scheduled for May 10 at St. Anselm’s College in Goffstown, New Hampshire, will be televised at 9 p.m. Eastern. Kaitlan Collins will moderate. Trump will take questions from Republicans and undeclared voters who are planning to participate in the 2024 GOP primary.
CNN will thus provide a ‘Trump-friendly’ audience and a moderator who began her career at The Daily Caller—a media website founded and owned by Tucker Carlson (until 2020).
Media companies should, of course, cover the news relating to Trump's candidacy for the 2024 nomination. And it is within the accepted traditions of networks and cable companies to host town-hall-style interviews with presidential candidates. But Trump is not merely a presidential candidate. He is a former president who attempted a coup and incited an insurrection. He attempted to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. He stands credibly accused of rape in an ongoing trial in federal court. He has admitted to removing and retaining classified documents relating to the national defense. He routinely issues misogynistic, racist, and anti-LGBTQ slurs for which he is given a pass by the media.
No responsible media organization should act as a neutral observer of Trump's political career, much less as a public relations surrogate for Trump--as is CNN by hosting a friendly “town hall.” It is particularly inappropriate for CNN to do so as special counsel Jack Smith and District Attorney Fani Willis present evidence to sitting grand juries regarding Trump's interference in the 2020 election. And let’s not forget that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has indicted Trump for concealing hush-money payments designed to change the outcome of the 2020 election.
Of course, it is possible that CNN’s Kaitlan Collins will ask Trump if he raped E. Jean Collins, if he stole defense secrets, if he attempted a coup, and if he tried to interfere in Georgia’s 2020 election. Possible but not likely. Trump would not have agreed to an appearance on a network he routinely attacked as “fake news” unless he received assurances that he would not be asked hard questions by Kaitlan Collins.
CNN has decided to treat Trump as if he is like any other presidential candidate. That is a dangerous mistake—as explained by Dan Rather’s Substack publication, Steady, The Danger of "Horse Race" Politics. As Dan Rather and Eliot Kirschner explain, it is irresponsible of the media to reduce the 2024 presidential campaign to a “horserace” in which the only relevant factor is “Who is ahead in the polls?” Per Rather and Kirchner,
When you cover politics like a horse race, it becomes logical for Donald Trump to be the frontrunner for a third Republican presidential nomination.
A horse race confers an equivalence upon all candidates. The only detail that matters is who is going to win — not all that might be lost. To view America through that lens today is an exercise in the absurd, a practice stuck in the insular logic of the past.
CNN has left the building. It is in the business of treating the 2024 presidential race as entertainment. CNN should no longer be counted among legitimate news organizations. Any journalist who remains at CNN is lending their good name to Trump. CNN is a weak competitor in the news ecosystem and is desperate for viewers—which is why it is hosting a PR event for Trump. Don’t add legitimacy (or viewership) to CNN as it attempts to convert itself into a Trump mouthpiece.

Hasan Piker
I stopped watching Hasan Piker's YouTube channel regularly for the same reason I don't consistently watch The Minority Report with Sam Seder, namely both tend to bring terrible people and the things they say and do to the fore, but – as far as I can tell – don't do anything at all about stopping whomever from saying or doing terrible things.
What I'm commenting on is the weird echo chamber between Left-wing commentators and the Right where each feed off each other for profit, views, clicks and whatever while nothing at all changes – except typically for the worse – for regular people.
By which I mean, I don't need to know every terrible thing Tim Pool or Tucker Carlson says because they're terrible people, though essentially promoting what they do – though admittedly though a differently-tinted lens – doesn't help either.

Sometimes I feel really disconnected to radical feminism and feel like abandoning the label of radical feminist.
I mean I do agree to the basic fundamentalism but we're not much different from TRAs....
We keep defending bs that other radfems do...
I saw a post somewhere that conservatives and radfems can never be on same side and then showed the tweet of JKR and Matt Walsh as proof.
But then there's one of the biggest organizations WoLF? That went over to Fox News to talk with Tucker Carlson? They're continuously siding with Republicans. That all they focus on is TRA bs and they didn't give a fuck about Roe v Wade being turned.
You will see radfems blaming TRAs for their racism when there are radfems that support the worst racist shit like colonization in the name of feminism.
You will see radfems make fun of a woman's hairstyle when it's obvious she's going through some illness that's causing her hairfall.
Radfems talk down to women who aren't radfems or are victims of oppression with misogyny (what makes it ok for some women to throw other women under the bus?)
We don't talk about intersectionality either. Everything or almost most of the stuff is talked about from the lens of an abled, white woman. Often from the lens of a straight woman too. (when will straight radfems start talking about the abuse that lesbians face too at the hands of men?)
The only thing keeping me attached to the label is that I have met and known women like you both online and irl who actually are open minded thinkers.
But I am genuinely kind of tired with many radical feminists the way I was tired with TRAs and libfems.
It is so easy to turn on your defensive mode when TRAs accuse radfems of something but we genuinely need to stop and think- yes this person is not providing any actual solid argument against radical feminism itself but is this thing actually an issue or not in radfem circles?
And if they are then let's own it and try to change it.
i feel u anon… it’s frustrating. i often wish i could just go back to the days when i was a TRA bc im so sick of it. but i literally can’t just unsee what i now know and switch. i wish there was a place for lesbians and woc (esp women that r both) to discuss these issues more without dealing w constant racism & lesbophobia that not only exists in online radfem spaces but also online

Note
People stanning fanatical and misogynist religious militants like the Shepherd and the High Sparrow because they somehow are great and real examples of leftist populism and cares about the smallfolk reminds me of pundits saying that for a lot of blue-collar workers and people living in rural areas, Trump/Le Pen/the far-right are the only candidates in a long time that has told them they will help the poverty situation in the country and bring down the corrupt elites and the establishment.
For people who claim to want the victory of the smallfolk, the end of the monarchy (So you agree ? No more King or Queen in the North ?), etc, they strangely fail to recognize the same repressive, exploitative, and manipulative structures present in the way the Faith operates.
I'd like people to go look at Trump's/some conservative politicians/the Association of American Railroads' (AAR) actions for years before and right after the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment back in Feb: LINK. Excerpt:
Leading the charge, as is so often the case with such white-America nativist fearmongering, is the Fox News star Tucker Carlson. “East Palestine is overwhelmingly white, and it’s politically conservative,” he said recently. “That shouldn’t be relevant, but it very much is.”
Carlson went on to describe East Palestine as a “poor benighted town whose people are forgotten, and in the view of the people who lead this country, forgettable”. He highlighted the indisputable suffering of local residents who were forced to evacuate a two-mile area and since they have returned home remain fearful about the quality of the air and water.
Then Carlson contrasted such hardship with what he called the “favoured poor” who live in “favoured cities” such as Detroit and Philadelphia – a clear euphemism for urban centers, often led by Democratic mayors, with large Black populations.
In these “favoured” places, he said, “everyone feels for them and everyone wants them to be safe”.
The idea that the rail disaster should be viewed through a racial lens has spread like a toxin from Fox News, through right-wing news sites and social media, into the political realm. JD Vance, the first-term Republican US senator from Ohio, picked up the clarion call of the “forgotten” Americans, calling the residents of East Palestine, pointedly, “our voters”.
AND, most damnedly:
Those challenges are all too visible in East Palestine. Trump’s much-vaunted visit to the derailment this week may have been intended to highlight his “forgotten Americans” meme, but it succeeded in drawing attention to his own environmental record. When he was in the White House, Trump overturned new safety rules introduced under Barack Obama requiring more sophisticated brakes on trains carrying flammable materials.
Trump’s presidency proudly presided over a bonfire of regulations, including health and safety controls, and eviscerated almost 100 environmental protections. The changes included weakening routine rail safety audits following accidents and throwing out minimum staffing levels on freight trains. And they were made under the intense pressure of the rail industry which devotes millions of dollars to lobbying Washington each year. The latest figures for 2022, under the Biden administration, show that the industry devoted $25m to lobbying last year according to Open Secrets, including $1.8m from Norfolk Southern which owned the derailed train.
Other sources: ONE, TWO.
I write about the Shepherd HERE.

i didn't watch much Cyberchase, how bad did that get?
Cyberchase in a way suffered faster than Arthur
The first 4 seasons are great, though 1's a slow start, but S5 did several things
-Larry Jacobs no longer was the creative director (oddly he was a voice director 2 episodes)
-It was the start of "themed" seasons in accordance to education outside the already established math. In its case, inventor's week
-Hacker's failed romance with Wicked is focused on
-Laskas wasn't as involved in writing anymore
-Buzz's VA changed on account of Len Carlson dying mid dev
As such, the show fell through some education mandates and shifted direction that further limited plot development. S5 erroneously tried rehashing a S4 arc as well, but it just made everything dumber. Hacker also was starting to lose his edge
S6 was the Flash animation shift, and while not as bad as Arthur, it was still pitiful. Hacker was the most affected, as his design has tiny legs that relied on hand drawn flexibility. Ironically I'd say writing was slightly better S6 than 5, but it quickly degrades S7 and 8. 7-8 not only had less episodes each season (7 and 5), Hacker also became incredibly pathetic (there's an episode entirely about it). S8 introduced a fanboy villain that literally only mattered 2 episodes, further showing Hacker's decline
For a while the show was on hiatus for 3 years, seemingly dead. But then it randomly had a TV special premiere, and S9 on introduced a new shift; episodes now had to be eco themed. Math was ironically sidelined, voice acting degraded, and somehow the flash got worse. With Gottfried dead, I'm curious how S14 will pan out
"What about the live action segments"
It didn't really decline until post hiatus, and even then it's fine. "Harry" and Bianca effectively retired though
It's honestly a shame, because it was the only Wnet show that Wnet directly contributed in its creation. Yet it fell victim to budget dying
