I'm not the kind of person who thinks there is only one correct interpretation of a character or dynamics because seeing how much you can do within the established parameters of these things is one of the best parts of fandom. But some people don't actually have anything I could meaningfully call an interpretation of a character, they just pick one to three of the characters established traits and then puppet them around based on how they think that particular character archetype should behave. And it's infuriating to watch. It's not even "he would not say this" it's "nobody would ever say this, you have created something that is so derivative and generic that it fails to even crudely mimic human behavior." And yes believe me I understand that this literally doesn't matter at all but this is where my peak autism lies, and bitching on Tumblr is the most socially acceptable way to channel those feelings.

PLEASE DO IT
the people have decided, here's a fanfic rec list of dsaf fanfics that arent focussed on davesport! (in no particular order)
Centipedes by Raccoonsandpossumswritesometimes [incomplete]
Dee centric fic which is a swap between Dee and Jack. Not only is davesport not the main focus, it's also pretty toxic. TWs at the beginning of each chapter, but heed the tags.
Hello, You. by galaticanthem [incomplete]
Another similar premise to Centipedes. If you think davesport is toxic in centipedes though, here it is arguably worse. Plot is a bit confusing as of chapter 7, but as it stands, here are the trigger warnings that I can remember off of the top of my head (but basically, if you're sensitive to disturbing themes, i'd skip this one):
Murder
Abuse
Kidnapping (by the looks of it but ????)
Underage drinking
Neglect
Body horror (I think??? it's so early into the fic im unsure of half these warnings but as it is rn i think it is important they're there because thats what it looks like at least)
Dave is very objectively NOT a good person in this fic. Like, at all. I don't think any future chapter could change that. If you're a person who cannot read about their favourite character committing absolutely heinous things theres nothing wrong with that and I wouldn't read this. If you can stomach all that though, it's a good story.
Dave and Old Sport Adopt a Kid by Wario_Speedwagon [incomplete]
Davesport is there and it's prevalent and not toxic, but it's not the main focus. It's more of an accidental baby acquisition fic. I can't think of any trigger warnings for this one, but check the tags. always.
Matted Fur by Afval [one-shot]
Evil ending fic with rabbit symbolism for Dave. All TWs are in the tags.
Sharp-Toothed Rabbit by orphan_account [one-shot]
More evil end Dave ft. animal metaphors! what more could you want? All TWs in the tags.
happiest day by grimkid [one-shot]
A fic about Jack's happiest day. Jack x Steven, no TWs iirc but heed the tags.
Octane Rating by dontrollthedice [one-shot]
Canon compliant fic about the good ending, only its harrysport. i dont even like the ship but this fic makes me so unwell /pos. No TWs I think but look at the tags.
NO MIDDLE-CALLING by XYZ_Countoriss [one-shot]
Silly chatfic, what can go wrong? -oh that right. No TWs needed, but look at the tags.
Operation Get Your Brother to Remember You After Years of Thinking He is Dead by Sockth [incomplete]
A fic focussed on Peter and Jack, I think the title is self explanatory. No TWs but look at tags.
Safety Infiltration by themostneontwig [incomplete]
After Jack betrays Dee in the evil route, Dave decides he needs to be stopped. A fic based around the idea of Legacy Jack founding the pizzaplex. No TWs that instantly come to mind other than the fact that it's set almost immediately after Jack kills Dee. Look at the tags though.
Hot Chocolate by Wario_Speedwagon [one-shot]
Ouch, set right after Jack dies the first time round. This fic physically hurt me and I mean that in the best way possible. TWs in tags.
After the Storm by themostneontwig [one-shot]
Christmas fic focussed on Peter and Jack. Read this one after Hot Chocolate, it can save you. No TWs unless you're Ebenezer Scrooge in which case dni
Jack's Squad Has UNO Night by Wario_Speedwagon [one-shot]
The title's a lie they play cluedo /j just some wholesome fun. No TWs.
An Unexpected Connection by End_Transmission [one-shot]
Post good end, but Jack 'lives'. We all know Dave had at least ONE kid. No TWs.
Peter Kennedy and the Worst Place on Earth by biptari [incomplete]
AU where Jack and Peter swap places. Steven x Peter. As for TWs I can't say everything off of the top of my head but I KNOW Henry is homophobic and transphobic in this. I can't remember if he says slurs 100% but I'm pretty sure he does use at least one so like, watch out. Other than that, heed the tags.
That's all I have right now. If you know some more then feel free to reblog to add them. No hate to davesport or anything but if you write dsaf fanfics that aren't focussed on davesport then you are my lifeline /hj

Lmao I agree with that anon about how the fandom would misinterpret u. Like u would say one sentence about how Affo is morally gray and has motives and his reason, they immedietly pounce cause NO HE CANT BE KORALLY GRAY HES OBVS MORALLY BLACK AND ABSOLUTELY EVIL like yeah he's a selfish brat but he also had a rough upbringing and yeah it Def wasn't the morally white thing to do but who tf cares I don't for sure he's my skrunkly now I'm gonna torture/take care of him
Seriously doe ur rlly cool and not aggressive. The fandom would call u aggressive cause u retaliated in self defence/ expressed distaste for something cause there's always some young people who can't tell between 'saying your opinion' and saying 'only your opinion is right'
U also draw rlly well, are mature and can stay cool in situations I can't XD
I aspire to be like you one day! Ur writing and drawing is amazing znd you can see from different perspectives!
I imagine u to be a grandparent sipping their cup of tea inside. Children yell at u from the yard, so you laugh and go back to reading the news. Only when children walk up to ur door and start banging and screaming do you retaliate.
Sorry this got really long... i was a bit stressed lately
I hope you can achieve your dreams!
Affogato is morally black and evil and manipulative and he's a little shit who deserves more of a punishment than just being essentially yeeted from Dark Cacao's kingdom /j
Honestly I just. I like talking about my opinions. I like commentating about things that I see, think and notice and I like offering my perspective and talking about it. That's fun to me! I genuinely don't mean to come across as someone trying to shove their opinions down others' throats. It's when other people either a) make the argument that their opinions are objectionably right or b) go out of their way to harass others that it bothers me a lot. Especially when it's a ridiculous claim that calls into question the morals of the person that they don't agree with.
For example, with the argument about Affogato and Pomegranate being the same character--sure, they're similar, but they have enough differences that they aren't the same character. One is not simply a gender-swapped version of the other. They have different personalities, motivations and goals, and I've seen people talk about how hating Pomegranate more than Affogato is 'misogynistic' because they are 'essentially the same character'.
Even if they were the same character, there's nothing wrong with just. Not liking a female character. It doesn't have to be inherently misogynistic in nature, and you don't need an excuse for why you don't like the character. 'The only excuse is if they trigger a trauma' is a ridiculously toxic notion that implies that simply not liking a character isn't a good enough reason. Pomegranate doesn't trigger me, but I don't like how she goes out of her way to trigger other cookies. And I don't like how her character solely seems to revolve around Dark Enchantress Cookie, either. And that's my particular opinion on that matter. And that's okay.
Then there's the drama over White Lily, which is a whole can of worms I don't really feel like delving into. It's essentially the same logic--'If you don't like White Lily or ship PureCacao but not PureLily then you're misogynistic'. It's ridiculous and immature and minimizes the consideration for why someone would prefer one character over the other or simply doesn't like that character.
Idk I have a lot of thoughts and I know you didn't ask for my perspective on this but I am fully willing to be an old man sipping my tea and watching kids play swords outside while shaking my head in awe at the fandom drama, thinking about how ridiculous it is sometimes. And if someone comes a-knockin' at my door or says something loudly near my window that I'm not very fond of, then of course I'm going to act.
And I'll admit that being 'calm, cool and mature' is kind of hard sometimes lol. It's something I have to actively focus on doing from time to time, and it's still something that I'm trying to work on--learning my limits and when is the best time to just step away. It's not always easy, but it's a very important skill to learn. And I'm only 23--I'm still comparatively young in the grand scheme of things. Of course I'm still learning. As an example, I know that sometimes I struggle with proper pronouns for characters/people because it was something I only started learning in the last couple of years, and it's something I'm working on bit by bit.
It really does flatter me that you look up to me to that extent! Just please remember that at the end of the day, I am a person just like you, and from time to time, I may slip up and make mistakes. Parasocial relationships in the long run can be somewhat damaging under the wrong situations. Instead of aspiring to be like me, try to aspire to be the best you that you can be with what you have right now.
I don't know how old you are, what situations you have experienced or are experiencing, or what resources you have available to you right now--but please take your time with yourself, and be patient. No matter how old you are, humans are always going to be a work in progress--we're always learning and always adapting, and I think that is a fantastic trait that we all share.

SE-VGA
Tumblr media
I've started a new project.
Inspired by recent work on creating modern reproductions of the Mac SE logic board and following my previous CPLD VGA generator project, I've been working on a PDS card for the Mac SE that mirrors its video on a VGA monitor.
I'm using a similar approach to the [bbraun] project, which used an stm32f4 to watch the SE's CPU bus for writes to the SE frame buffer memory addresses. Instead of using a microcontroller I'm using an Atmel ATF1508AS CPLD to monitor the SE CPU bus for writes to the frame buffer addresses and storing the data in a pair of 32kB SRAM chips. The CPLD then reads back the video data to generate a 640x480 monochrome VGA signal with the SE video in letterboxed in its original 512x342 resolution.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The circuit itself is fairly straightforward. The CPLD runs everything off a single clock signal from a can oscillator, and uses the pair of SRAM chips for video memory. Other than those four chips, there are a few passive components. It's simple enough I could have built one with point-to-point wiring or even wire-wrap. But, to reduce debugging and the potential for noise disrupting the SE's normal operation, I decided to lay out and order some small PCBs.
I got these from JLC for $2 plus shipping and they arrived in just under two weeks. Build was easy enough. I used the drag solder technique with a lot of flux to solder on the 100 pin QFP package CPLD and it went on with no problems. Everything else is through-hole.
I tried to take a methodical approach to build and debug. I started with just the CPLD and clock to make sure it could generate a proper sync signal that was recognized by my monitor. That much worked without issue, so I moved on to testing if it could read data from its VRAM bus and display it. This part took some work with a logic analyzer and a few rounds of updates, but eventually I was able to tie one VRAM Data pin high and get it to display lines.
From there, I added the VRAM sockets to test if it could properly read from VRAM and display its contents. SRAM powers on to random contents, and when I added the SRAM to the board and powered it on, I was greeted with a screen of random pixels. VRAM was working, and the video generator was displaying a stable, consistent image.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point there was only one thing left to do — solder on the (expensive!) DIN 41612 connector and test it out in the SE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, it was half working.
I had half of the image on screen, so it was clearly recognizing CPU write cycles, storing it in VRAM, and recalling it in sequence. I quickly found and corrected a bug in the code looking for the 68000 lower data strobe (!LDS), and inverted the final output and tried again.
Tumblr media
It ... Wasn't quite right. It started out fine while Mac OS was booting. There was a little noise in the image, but not too bad ... until it reached the Finder. By the time it was finished booting, it was flashing, alternating between valid video data and a garbage data. The garbage data seemed to be encroaching on the valid data as well, the longer the system ran.
The first bug didn't take long to find. The classic Macs, including the SE actually support double-buffered video. They have a primary frame buffer and an alternate frame buffer, selected by setting or clearing one output bit on the VIA chip. I designed the card to support both frame buffers, and to also watch the CPU bus for writes to the specific VIA bit that controls frame buffer selection. I had calculated the VIA address wrong though, so it was swapping between frame buffers when it shouldn't have and that's what was causing the flashing.
I still had the problem of garbage data being displayed however. This one took a while to figure out, and I'm actually still not sure how it was happening to begin with.
The logic analyzer showed that every so often a VRAM write cycle would overlap with a VRAM read cycle. The VRAM write state machine shouldn't have allowed that to happen, but it was. Unable to find anything that would cause the cycles to overlap, o added a test to delay the write cycle if it detected a current read cycle.
The result?
Tumblr media
No more garbage data.
I really can't believe it. I wasn't sure I could get this to work, and I wasn't sure it would fit into a CPLD with only 128 macrocells. To top it off, this is my first real project using System Verilog instead of VHDL.
It's not perfect yet. There is one column of garbage data being displayed on the left of the image, and it looks like the last column off the right is also ending up on the left. But, it is completely useable.
I'm not finished with this project yet. I want to bump it up to XGA resolution (1024x768), which would allow the SE video to be pixel doubled and take up more of the screen. The 65MHz clock necessary for XGA is hard to come by, so I'm thinking about spinning up a rev 2 board that uses an FPGA instead of a small CPLD.
This has been a fun project. It's always so exciting for a project to have visible results.
I have the project on GitHub if anyone is interested in taking a closer look.

Nocturne Alchemy Halloween 2019 - Part Two
Originally published 10/10/2019
Hey y'all! Gonna dive right into these scents, today I'm reviewing the Resurgence scents that I have from the Nocturne Alchemy Halloween LC release. If you'd like to read my reviews of the new releases I chose, you can click here. NAlloween has always, and likely always will, be my favorite Limited Collection they do! I have so many treasures in my Halloween box.
Scarlet Bat - Red Sugar, Crimson Musk, Black Tea Leaves, Neroli-sugar, and NA Black Patchouli Absolute. Okay, my friend Heather picked this one up before I did last year, and she fell head over heels for it. I was already eying it, because I had two previous Vampire Patchouli Bats that I loved, and it had Crimson in it. It had to be a gimme. Like this year's Vampire Bourbon Patchouli Bat, it was a stunner right out of the mail - and it's only gotten better as it ages. Seriously, it's utterly fabulous. Slinky and sexy, and I think even if you ordinarily don't like patchouli, you might find yourself surprised by this one. Put simply, this is sugared red musk and patchouli. Crimson is a softer red musk than Kashmir, but there's almost a spiciness to it. This just warms up on the skin and reaches out, pulls you in. I crave this one when I haven't worn it in a while. For me, my two favorites of the Vampire Patchouli Bats are the Bourbon, and Scarlet. Neither is to be missed. And I don't find it to be like anything I have in my collection, either.
V by Thoth - Incense, Sweetened spices of Cardamom, Cinnamon, Allspice and clove swirled with Vanilla pods, Ghost Musk and Copal Resin. V was a fan favorite last year - and for good reason. It's part of a set of 7 perfumes, each one designed by a House of NA perfumer. I remembered that I have another favorite Halloween perfume that Thoth did: Frank's Monster. I love that one, so I was pretty excited when I saw V was done by Thoth, too. Y'all, I have a lot of incense perfumes. They're something I just can't resist. Okay, confession time: I did love this one, I thought it was a beautiful perfume, but I didn't really get it until I pulled it back out after aging it over the year. I thought I perhaps had similar perfumes...well. I was wrong. I tried it again a few weeks ago, when the weather started to cool down here in Florida, and it absolutely floored me. It was like I was experiencing a whole new perfume - this is positively SPECTACULAR. Very, very different from my other incense perfumes, and it might just be my favorite yet. I don't know what Ghost Musk is, but if it's that beautiful musk I'm smelling here, I could go for a full 10ml bottle of it. It reminds me a bit of Egyptian Musk, but not quite as sweet - very clean, and very appealing - floaty. I think that's it, and if so....Y'ALL, PLEASE MAKE THIS I WANT IT! Hahaha. I think I might like Ghost Musk better than Cemetery Musk, and I love that one too. Anyway - I'm dwelling. This is balanced against a light incense, and the spices are very much in the background, just a nice warm hum of support. But the copallll. I'm sure everyone knows copal rules my world, when we discuss favorite notes. It adds a lovely smoky, slightly sweet depth to this. I'm fully mesmerized. Thoth has outdone himself. I think this is backup worthy. So, a lesson to be had here, and one I realize quite often - if you don't really love something, put it aside for a while, and see what happens when you return to it. And I want to reiterate, I really did like this - but I didn't see, last year, what I was supposed to see with it - aging it and trying it when the weather was a little cooler and dryer really changed my perspective of it, and now it's become an obsession and a Halloween favorite. If you were looking at this one and wondering if you need it - let me ask, do you like musk and incense? If so, you'd better run and get this before it goes away.
The Mummy Returns - Patchouli, Vetiver, Australian Sandalwood, Cardamom, Frankincense, Myrrh, Rock Rose, Labdanum, Siam Benzoin and Tonka Bean. I made a little mistake, and it's the first time I've ever done this. I usually have a solid idea of what I have in my boxes, particularly my Halloween box, but I ordered The Mummy Returns this year thinking I missed it last year, but after my order came in, I was digging into my Halloween box and pulled out....an aged bottle of The Mummy Returns. Yep. So I'll be putting up my new one for swap. At any rate, it just really proved to me about the differences aging makes in Nocturne Alchemy's perfumes, so I kind of enjoyed realizing the contrasts! The Mummy Returns is a resin lover's dream. It's a deep, dark, witchy scent. I love the balance between the sweeter notes, like the myrrh and cardamom, and the woods. I'm writing this based on my aged bottle, and it's just so....well, at the risk of sounding dramatic, it's deep and mystical, and I'll probably be using this for my rituals, I feel such a connection to it. I couldn't tell you how, but it's something I've smelled before - there's some memory I haven't tapped into yet. I find it to be comfortingly familiar, but at the same time, it feels solemn and sacred. If you are nervous of vetiver, as I am sometimes, it's not a note that stands out a lot here, I can barely discern it when I'm huffing at my wrists. So yes, The Mummy Returns is quite an intense experience for me, but I definitely would recommend this in a heartbeat if you, too, love resinous, woody scents with a little sweetness to them. It's a beautiful perfume. It lasts quite a long time on the skin, too - more than eight hours, and I would say it's on the stronger side, so try it sparingly at first, unless you love to slather like I do.
A Change of Heart – Copal Resin, Shiraz Wine accord, Kashmir Absolute, Indian Oudh, Leather accord and burning embers. This bottle actually was gifted to me by my friend Heather. When I first got it, the leather seemed a little loud on my skin - and that made me nervous, because I was thinking it would be more like Hokum, which is a snuggly, sueded leather. But I figured I'd put it away, and let it age - and it would probably balance itself out. Well, that's exactly what happened. This is one of those scents that you can identify the various notes, if you're familiar enough with them - but they compliment each other so well, they're seamless together. It's definitely a chilly day scent, I did try to wear it in the summer and I don't recommend that - it just doesn't do well in the humidity of Florida. But it's great throughout fall and winter - like the leather in Hokum, this is a snuggly, easy to wear leather, and the copal, wine, and red musk of Kashmir just meld together so well. The wine is sweet, and a nice foil - definitely not a sharp note. I do love the way NA does their wine notes. I'm actually kind of wanting to pick up She Could Raise The Dead, which also features a wine and leather combination - reviews are really intriguing for that, too. And I have totally fallen for both Hokum and A Change Of Heart, so I think I might need it! The copal is of course my favorite note ever - it's a little sweet, sticky, and resinous - and also a bit smoky. This really accentuates the smoky oudh when it starts to shine in long drydown. I'm not sure I am doing this one justice - it really is unusual, and striking. Leather was a death note for me previous to NA - I simply could not wear it. If I tried to put on a perfume that had leather as a note, it would take over on my skin - and I couldn't get away from it. But these soft leathers (vegan, by the way!) that Nocturne Alchemy uses are very wearable for me, and I really am enjoying being able to wear it!
Pirate Rum - Bay Rum and a Chypre of Lavender, Chamomile, Pirate Ship Cedarwood and Siberian Fir Needle with a touch of French Vanilla and Oak. I got this one for my fiance, as the notes reminded me a bit of his beloved Ghost Ship. I can only give you a brief impression of this as to how it smells on him, but I thought someone might be interested in hearing that, so I'm including it! So on him, the bay rum is a nice, round spicy scent. If you're thinking Old Spice, push that right out of your head - this is dark and sexy, and nothing like that old standby. Much more complex and well done. The woods in this are the perfect balance against the bay rum, and the chypre is clean, but not at all feminine, so don't let that lavender scare you. I love this on him. Long drydown is a deep, warm spice against weathered, well aged wood. Very appealing! I tried a drop on me, and it's very different with my skinistry. I get a lot more of the chypre and chamomile, the spice of the bay rum is sedated a bit. I think it might come out more with age, if you wanted to wear it as a unisex scent, though. It is there, it's just not as evident as it was on him. The wood notes are gorgeous - I loooove that fir and cedarwood against the slightly herbal chypre on me. I will say, I much prefer this on him right now.
And a bonus - Halloween 2020, which was given out as a sample with orders for this release. It's also available in the All Hallows' Eve section as part of the Permanent Collection, so if you love this, you can even get a big 10ml bottle! Notes: A special All Hallows’ Eve blend of 7 Sandalwoods (Hawaiian, Indian, Australian, New Caledonia, Indian Santalum Album, Karnataka Sandalwood, African Sandalwood (Baphia Nitida), Cardamom essential oil, Clove essential oil, Bourbon Vanille Absolute, Bastet Amber Absolute, smoked sandalwood infused with oak and pine smoke in the NA Studio. There was also a beautiful frosted black bottle, a special edition, along with Halloween 2018 and Halloween 2019, in frosted red and orange bottles, in the Halloween LCs this year. I had a feeling I was going to love this one right away - and I do. SEVEN. SANDALWOODS. 7, y'all! Now this will likely change and get even better with age, but my first impression of this? It is like a sister scent to Bastet Halloween 2016, which is one of my favorite PC scents. The spices in that definitely have a similar feel to the cardamom and clove in Halloween 2020, and of course the presence of Bastet Amber, one of my soul scents, is a star here, too. But those sandalwoods. So smooth. I'm making my way through that 2ml sample alarmingly quickly. Right now I'm not getting much of the smoke on my skin, but the clove starts out a little strongly when it's first applied. Once it warms up and sinks into my skin though, the other notes come out to play, and the clove sinks into the background to add a little spicy kick with the warmth of the cardamom. Beautiful for fall, truly. Brings to mind blue, blue skies, bright leaves, wispy white clouds. A fluffy scarf wrapped around your neck as you explore a farmer's market. That's the picture I have in my head when I huff at my wrist. I'll be reaching for this frequently. I can't really differentiate all the sandalwoods, but the blending of them reminds me just a bit of my beloved Pyramid Santalum. I think if you wanted more smoke, you could layer this with Titanosaurus - or if you wanted to really play up the sandalwoods, you could add even more Santalum or Pyramid Santalum, or Pteranodon. Hey, never enough sandalwood, am I right?
And that wraps up the second half of my NAlloween choices. Did you read the first half? What perfumes did you choose from this release? What are your favorites? I'm thinking about going back for one or two more, there are so many that caught my eye!

Thank you for answering our questions and being so helpful and patient! I have been searching for this all day but can't remember the words- a few months ago people were talking about faulty eyes for AG dolls? Or eyes that looked downward or something similar? I was wondering if you have any more information on that, or how to tell if your doll has those eyes. Is AG still replacing them? Thank you!
Hello! I can help you with that. So from about late summer of 2017 to early 2019, all of the new 18 inch dolls were made with eyes that have a plastic mechanism instead of metal, as they had been made since 1986. The weight of the eyes made it so that they were a tad too heavy for the mechanism, making them point slightly downward. This upset a lot of doll collectors since it didn’t look as realistic as the metal eyes, and made photos a lot harder. The white of the eye was also much whiter and there was a gap between the iris and the lash, giving some dolls a startled look.
So after a lot of petitioning and complaining to customer service, AG announced they’d switch back to the old eyes starting in January of this year. But this would be a rolling change; existing inventory would be depleted first. So you still might see some new dolls being produced with the plastic eyes, but most seem to have the metal eyes.
If you’re not sure, you can look at a few things.
The date of your doll’s manufacture (between roughly September of 2017 and January of 2019)
The whites of the eyes (plastic eyes will have brighter whites)
The downward gaze is obvious
The plastic post at the side of the eyes
This last point is the easiest way to tell. What you can do is point a flashlight into the far side of the eye socket, closer to the ear. If your doll has the plastic eyes, your flashlight will illuminate a white plastic post on the side, like this:
Tumblr media
(The above picture is a simulation, since I don’t currently have any dolls with these eyes).
But if your doll has metal eyes, that post will be clear plastic.
If your doll does have the plastic eyes and you would like them replaced, you have until December 31st, 2019 to have them replaced for free by American Girl; this includes free shipping back to you. They will not change the head; they will take out the plastic eyes and replace them with the older style of metal eyes that don’t have that downward gaze. After that date, they will charge you the standard eye replacement rate. If you take your doll into an American Girl Place store and have them send your doll in for you, shipping to the hospital is free also (this goes for any service, not just eyes). Otherwise, you can take your doll to the post office to mail it.
See here for further instructions on the process: https://www.americangirl.com/shop/ag/american-girl-eye-exchange
From what I can tell, most people are satisfied with the eye exchange. My mom sent in her Nanea doll for the switch and she came back looking beautiful. She LOVES the new look. I did Nanea’s hair in an elaborate waterfall braid hairstyle so she’d be sure she was getting the same doll head back, and there was definitely no head replacement. Although if something goes terribly wrong during the eye exchange, they will offer a free head replacement. Otherwise, just the eyes.
My own experience was a little different. I sent in my Kanani for a new head back in June, and she returned with the new plastic eyes. I couldn’t live with them so I sent her in to have them swapped. But they were a little careless with it and one of her eyes was lopsided in her head and jiggled around a lot, requiring me to use my finger to push it back into place constantly. It was such an issue for me that I no longer have that particular Kanani.
Turnaround speed seems to vary depending on a lot of factors. My Kanani was gone for 12 days, including from when I sent her to when I received her. Very fast! But my mom’s Nanea was gone for I think close to a month? It all depends on inventory of eyes, as well as how many other dolls are waiting for eye treatment at that moment. You can call customer service and see if they can give you an idea of how long it will take your doll to be admitted and come home.
