By virtue of being born several minutes earlier, Yelena was titled as the next Head of her house over her twin brother, Anatoly. It was not a wanted thing—not craved, not coveted, not especially in the hours after learning of her father’s slaughter in the Great War. But duty and obeisance are the core tenets of the Lazarevic family, and so she persists, stepping into the role with as much aplomb as one can muster in the face of her grief and reticence.
Soft and kind where her brother is hard-hearted and cruel, Yelena rules with uncertainty and a maddeningly indifferent air, swayed by her instincts and gentle sensibilities rather than by logic and reason. Her lack of direction and constant string of oversights has been noticed and upbraided by the Consortium, but she is content to let her house stagnate, or else pass on the burden to another member of her family.
ANATOLY LAZAREVIC [Status: Available]

What better way to address duty than to shirk it altogether? Anatoly knew early on that there was no happiness to be found within his family, and so he chased for euphoria in the places where he could find it: in liquor, in vice, in others. His brazen carelessness, however, shackled him to both a wife and a child at the onset of his adulthood, and so his stint in hedonism was truncated before it could ever find its wings. Behind a public image of doting father and loving husband, he is cold and distant, searching for ways to leech off the profits of his house, hoping to amass everything he can before his sister runs their reputation and fortunes to the ground.

She should have known better than to trust the charming, handsome man that became her husband, but Semira has few qualms about being part of the Lazarevic family. She was a nobody, an anonymous face among all the others upon the planet, but she supposed that Anatoly may have wanted a similar pretense. After a hushed marriage and the unremarkable birth of her daughter, she found solace in the management and inner workings of her family’s business dealings, preferring the no-nonsense interplay of negotiation and numbers than to the vapid charade of charities and galas. Despite the ways of noble law, Semira aspires for the day she might extricate herself and her daughter from constricting ties of their house—and to never look back.

At a certain point, all members of the family realize that they are pawns, stripped of agency, moved at will when needed. It was in the midst of the war that Adrik discovered this notion, made to wed the youngest daughter of the Ladons, an act of emergency as much as an acceptance of reparations. Primed to take over the family business in the industry of terra victus, he became saddled with an onslaught of responsibilities that had never been given a second thought before—of political involvement, public image, of marriage. Perhaps, in the first few years, he may have attempted, waiting for stability in the wake of his family’s shattered existence, but the veneer of it would fade. More recently, Adrik has poured himself into extinguishing all the conflagrations that his eldest siblings create between themselves, and, more pressingly, the sudden discovery of terra victus on Tartarus.
ILARION LAZAREVIC [Status: Available]
21 Years | Student and Political Activist | Portrayed by Cyril Zakirov
Born frail and sickly, Ilarion is the youngest son of the Lazarevic set, cosseted and kept safe from the forces of the exterior world. But in time, the nursing and the safeguarding would become much of a prison, barring him from the pursuits and pastimes that he would witness his siblings undergo and enjoy. When he was allowed entrance to university, he found his solace in scholarship and philosophy, only to unravel the deeper thread of political theory and the insidious system that his family is complicit in. Now, highly involved and active in an anti-Consortium organization among his peers, he has found a calling unlike any other—but he knows himself torn, strung between the loyalty to his family who cannot discover his radical undertakings and the burgeoning fire of reform.
